>>97352437Yes. It is illegal to use dice as counters in sanctioned events. The official reason is that they cannot be confused with other game elements, and while Dice mechanics are not at all common, they are still a thing that exists. The unofficial reason is because of how easy it is to either cheat, or accidentally roll something like a D20 to a different value.>https://www.yugioh-card.com/en/downloads/penalty_guide/YGOTCG_Tournament_Policy_v_2_5.pdf>Counters must be items that cannot be confused with other game elements. >Items that are overly large, could damage cards or other tournament property, or have graphics or text inappropriate for an all-ages environment cannot be used.>Physical counters are required – the “counter” function in NEURON cannot be used without also using physical counters.>Counters must be added to cards in the appropriate quantity (example: if card effect(s) would place 4 counters on a card, Duelists should add four counters, rather than using a die placed to show “4.” Tradeoff is that you can use virtually anything as counters, as long as each individual counter is represented by an individual object.

Should I try to get into Yugioh? I just like the art on the cards mostly, but when I read about the gameplay all I see is that its just you lose before you can even start your turn so I'm not sure.

I have a silly question as newcomer: Do you assemble full command set for every unit you field, or how do you decide on that? Here I am sitting on 10 marauder horsemen and I was thinking of having 2 units of five for flexibility, and I really don't know whether each 5 really needs champ, bannerman and musician considering they will harass enemy and die rather easily. I'm not waac fag or anything, but I'm curious of how people do it.
>>97354229I think that depends very much on the context of both the army and how you're dividing your points. I'm also still a newguy, but I think in the case of cavalry you might want to field it in a single unit? I haven't looked that deep into the rules for cavalry, but I'd imagine for a powerful cavalry charge and staying power you might want to keep them together. A champion, musician and banner could in that case help out, especially if you're going to be using these dudes as your main offensive capability. To give an example of when I decided not to use a command set:With my Empire force I get to work with detachment rules, so I gave my main regiment of buffed up halbs two blocks of 10 missile troops as support. I don't expect them to get into melee (although that might still happen), and as two detachments for a buffed up regiment I opted for maximising firepower over giving those small blocks some very minor bonuses in the grand scheme of things.
>>97354229For me I ask myself "is it important this unit wins its combats, and especially the combats that might be close?"If the answer is yes I build command models.Example: I want my block of 15 gors in combats and I want them winning so I build command for the extra combat resolution.I dont care if my ungors with bows with a melee and dont ever expect them to, so I skip command for them
>>97354229Champion and musician are usually good to have on almost every unit. Champ especially is very valuable because of the challenge mechanic. Banners are not worth putting on units units whose role is to slow down and/or harass the enemy. Your enemy gets 50pts for every banner he/she captures so having a banner on a unit of 5 marauder horsemen almost doubles the point you give when they eventually die.
>>97354229Modelwise yes, because I like the look of it. But in terms of rules I wouldn't take banners for chaff or horsemen. The extra CR isn't going to help them in any meaningful way (unless I'm specifically going for some kind of magic banner) and when they inevitably do get killed they won't give out free points like candy. The musician is good on everyone imo.
Thread dedicated to Sci-Fi based discussion. 40k need not apply. [\spoiler]How goes your sci-fi setting, anon? I am currently running a Traveller game in a homebrew setting, and am getting lost in the sauce of stellar physics.
>>97352667I definitely prefer the thought of a information network time gated by jump mechanics. It can create some very interesting scenarios, and it can give players an actual sort of soft currency of exchanging news when they hit out of the way spots that aren't on the major trade paths
I've been interested in running Stars Without Number in a space frontier like Star Trek TOS
>>97352667Here are my rules1. FTL travel is only possible with a real sentient person controlling the ship. Don't try brain in a jar, it backfires.2. FTL communication inside of a solar system is possible, but only through some fairly expensive infrastructure.3. The vast, vast majority of information is carried by courier ships who must make the FTL travel by themselves.4. There is instant FTL galaxy-wide communications available, but only the big giant ancient asshole alien empire knows how to do it, and only those people extremely, extremely high up get to use it. This typically takes the form of pre-recorded video messages. A live holo-link with a member of the Imperial Court means someone on the other side of the call really fucked up. Humans (aka players) have access to this tech, but can only send very simple text messages, like telegrams, can be vulnerable to distortion, it's not reliable.I like the feeling of Traveller "Age of Sail" communication, but I also want to leave myself open to other stuff.
>>97352643>I've never been able to find a system with space combat I likeSounds like you haven't looked very hard. Or have extremely autistic needs.
>>97354109I basically want something fast and abstract. Give everyone one or two actions to do something and get back to the game. Delta V can suck my balls.

>>97353498For me, they're far too different. Hags are monstrous women that do black magic and eat children. Goblins are sneaky, selfish, horrible fae-types that like causing mischief, that take children to turn them into goblins. Which would then mean the two are at odds in that regard.
>>97342942>I tend to want other species to never look like an upright walking animal. This goes for fantasy races or aliens in a scifi. >>97345752My rationale is to bundle the Blaster/Splitercannon squads in a pair of raiders and push them up the table to contest and harrass the shit out of things, while the dark lance squad hangs back to snipe heavier shit. Archon and incubi are in the last raider and the Talos will act as a counter attack force where ever I get bogged down by the enemy. Ravager provides highly mobile anti armour/anti terminator/meganob platform. And hopefully, this gets me a win, but the ultimate is to see how fun this particular fandex is.
>>97346036>1500 pointsAnd what would you field with 500 points?
>>97347897I'd take the archon again, stripped down of wargear and shit, he'd be there to agonise something to death. List would look like this...Dark Eldar 500 points.Characters:Archon: 99Splinter pistol, Agoniser, ghostplate armour, plasma and frag grenades.Squads:Kabalite Warriors: 1767 warriors with Splinter Rifles and frag grenades, 1 warrior with Blaster and frag grenades, 1 warrior with Splinter Cannon and frag grenades. News from the front, played the trial game with the new deldar fandex and was not impressed, from the anemic character selection, to the missing rules reference and never elaborated, it just made for a particularly unfun experience. Though on a positive note the armoury was well composed, using my weapons available to me really did sell what they're supposed to be. The darklight guns(dark lance and blaster) were the high impact anti-armour/heavy infantry pieces they're supposed to be, the splinter weapons are a good high volume of fire and moderate and reliable damage like they should be, disintegrator cannons on my raiders were great, the 2 sustained fire dice for them is a damn good feel.Next week will see me using the Codex Commoraghii fandex from 2008, this one was written off of the 3e army list and cleaves closer to 2e design principles, so maybe this will feel better than this 5e+ derived fandex I used today, the week after that see's me using the oldest of the bunch, a fandex written in 2000, still with 2e fresh in mind. From these games I'll determine either the list most aligned with what I want out of dark eldar in 2e or a foundation for me to iterate my own idea of what they should be.
Is it better to have fully anthropomorphic beast people in your settings or just humans with like animal ears and tails?
>>97330128Neither.I prefer scattering around fairytale style talking animals; I don't tend to explain them, but at a push they'd be forest spirits or a manifest genius loci, or the result of magical tampering.>Talking fox tries to sell you junk>Go on a quest for the "King of the Mice", who is just a regular sized talking mouse with a tiny crown>Barnyard cat and retired wizard's familiar is sole witness to a murder, but cannot legally testify, due to still being a cat.
