>>97335741I say the opposite: they should have leaned into it far harder, to the point where basic facts like, "has this planet been destroyed or not" are disputed. That way insufferable "lore" nerds would have nothing to work with and might leave the rest of us to play with our toy soldiers.
>>97334620Not nearly as many as people think.Going by the stats provided by Horus himself.>Only 1% of encounters with humans ever involved firing a shot at all.>Of those 1%, it was just as likely to be a firefight at a warehouse, than a full blown war.>Astartes were a comparatively minor group of the Great Crusade. They were the poster boys for Imperial might, and they did highly important work. But most of their work was going to pre-scouted systems with known threats that couldn't be bargained with.>Official enclaves and diplomatic wings were set up in the case of amicable xenos. Unfortunately, most amicable xenos were killed off by dark eldar, orks, or things that HAD to go.The Imperium in m41 is the way it is BECAUSE of systemic generations of people assuming the Imperium is too big to fail, and basically not bothering to actually try hard to maintain it. As such, it exhibited a slow, but accelerating degeneration (most notably in the "Waning" period) from something pretty amicable, to a universe where reading and wheels are literally illegal/sins that will get you drawn and quartered on some planets, the state religion is a legal requirement, aliens and weird looking people are to be killed on sight, and not knowing shit is seen as a high virtue because you're either working 20+ hours a day, or being sent to fight Orks with a flashlight in human waves because strategically the Imperium can only barely afford even that expense to make your lasgun. Oh yeah, and; wanting anything better, or having the knowledge to make anything better, are enough for some puritans to kill you for chaos corruption.Seriously. People forget the "Kill the Alien, Slay the Heretic, Purge the Unclean" xenophobia wasn't the Emperor, but a result of those 10 millennia of flanderization of his actual stance, into a feature of their religion.Comment too long. >>97334620Big E was worried about one thing and one thing only, and that was the oncoming human psychic awakening. If the Eldar were able to turn a whole sector of the galaxy into a giant butthole into the warp and shit out a whole new chaos god, what would man accomplish having already seeded his way across all the stars. Human dignity was secondary to making sure that he could save his own ass from being the plaything of dark gods for eternity.
>>97336134Well that's because the Emperor went>Kill the Alien if they don't fuck off>Heretics? They're all heretics so kill them too>The Unclean are a myth, they don't exist. And look how good that worked out.

Previous thread: >>97215703GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.If you're wondering where to start:- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.Thread question: What are some systems or you would like to include or see included in a campaign, but haven't been able to? They don't have to be the main focus of the game, having them only as something on the side is okay.
https://samuelbaughn.blogspot.com/2026/01/m113-apc-in-gurps.htmlFirst vehicle(s) for my blog. Pretty research-intensive (several days of searching and reading), but hopefully that will get easier as I learn where to look for information. Still not sure the armour is right, but I only had one source which bothered to break it down by actual facing rather than just saying '38-45 mm'. Had to estimate the weight of applique armour due to paucity of information. There are enough kits out there that one of them is probably close to my numbers. There are shit-tons of variants, which I will try and cover in future posts, but will probably do a BMP and Bradley first. Still got a few dinosaurs I want to write up too, which at least avoids the hell that is HTML tables. Need to go back over my old posts to change auto-generated HTML to an actually coherent version too, which is probably going to be many hours of work.

>>97336872It's more that imperium rarely fights on virginal soil. Imperium rules a million worlds and probably has had presence in millions more, but that is still pretty sparse on galatctic slace. There are countless worlds that are either too hard to reach with Warp drives or just aren't generally interesting enough to fight over. Though you could still build a table around one. Ex-imperial human settlements. Eldar maiden Worlds. Dead worlds once inhabited by an alien civilization. Or hell, just a weird looking imperial World that doesn't have the luxury of usual imperial buildings. Barbarians living in huts build from the shells of giant cockroaches. Death jungle settlements. Ice world mining colony with underground dwellings. Penal colony that has built its shelters from scrapped space ships.
>>97337264Prior to when GW started selling terrain, terrain needed to be scratch built and so terrain was much more diverse and varied. Many stores had their own suite of unique terrain and some stores even had a variety of themed battlefield tables. Jungle terrain tables, winter terrain tables, cityscapes tables and generic open terrain tables all existed in the past.As more "official" terrain has been released the more standardized terrain has gotten and the less unique tables have gotten. Part of the point of traveling in the wargaming hobby used to be about testing your army and skills at unfamiliar battlefields. much of that has been lost due to the dominance of "standardized" tournament play and waac armies.
>>97336831By all means, go right ahead and build your dream jungle/desert/beaches/farmstead table. Personally I like urban settings because Codex Cityfight activated something in me in 2001.
>>97337433This is a very glamorized view of the past in some parts, and factually wrong in other parts.>terrain was much more diverse and varied. >stores had their own suite of unique terrainSometimes! But this is also the era that coined the phrase "Planet Bowling Ball." What happened far more often than people/stores making diverse, unique terrain was people/stores using far too little terrain. And also far too small pieces -- things that did not completely block line of sight -- because the effort, skill and materials cost for tall, broad pieces was much higher than for small things like hills, rocks, alien plants, ruins, etc. The 4th edition area terrain rules provided some relief, since you could use small scatter and say it was X high.>As more "official" terrain has been released the more standardized terrain has gottenThere are pretty much zero tournaments that use all official terrain. The cost is too high and the sourcing is too difficult. As far as I'm aware the standard table layouts do not correspond to any GW terrain products. And if they do, the vast majority of comp players are still buying 3rd party terrain (mdf, 3d prints, acrylic, etc.)
>>97330537On /tg/ there's just not that much to talk about anymore. Every conversation that's substantive in any way immediately devolves into political or political-adjacent bickering. The board is full of autists who hate each other and all hide away in their corporation consumerist generals, and you're only allowed to talk about what's normal in the corporation consumerist generals. You know why you're allowed to mock tables? Because in the corporate consumer general for Warhammer, they think it'd be great if you spent more money and bought more shit, so mocking tables is one of the few safe topics that you can touch that won't have a wannabe Games Workshop community manager screaming at you. That's basically all it comes down to.Just the board being shit now and full of insufferable assholes.

>>97334940>>97326101Played gaslands today for the first time, pretty damn fun. Just a little death race with one other guy, 2 cars each. It's my first time playing one of these sort of minis games with templates and an actual rulebook, but there really didn't seem like too many rules, though I think there were some "advanced" ones we didn't play with, and some house rules to make wipeouts less punishing, etc.. Friend made some sick terrain and cars, but unfortunately I forgot to take pictures. I managed to take out one of each of our cars in a suicide smash, but I was rolling like dogshit so he won by getting to the finish line.>>97334940>>97336587I wanted to like Hogwarts battle, played through a couple of years with my wife's cousins and their kids, but it just wasn't fun. iirc the enemies etc. got harder year-to-year but there was no, or not enough carry over from year-to-year to make me feel like the game was changing from year to year. I love Santorini, but I never get to play it, my wife hates it, so only ever when my dad's over.

>>97334940Are there any mechanical differences between Hive and Hive Pocket?
>>97337425Don't use the A-word, anon's gonna give you a talk about how any form of randomness disqualifies a game from being called abstract. Not that I strictly disagree, but I find boardgame terms in general lacking in an agreed upon definition. Most of them are great as heuristics, but if you go deeper you quickly find vagueness and make up your own definition, conciously or subconciously. Euro vs Ameritrash is a useful metric to use when roughly describing a game, but the question of what exactly these terms encompass leads nowhere.Inb4 someone says that definitions are clear and we start fighting over them

Time to talk about weird monsters again. As usual, any rants about Bog will be treated as bait unless you have actual proof.
I feel like this game needs like, a guided demo to break down combat and abilities. The basic dice rolling concepts are easy to grasp, constructing parts I can easily see getting lost in. Beyond that lore books and more monsters are obviously things to expand to.
