>>97257832What's the problem?
Which of these games do you like the best, if any? They seem to be pretty similar on the surface - resource collecting eurogames.
>>97258074I like Agricola and Ora et Labora, but saying they're similar is doing a big disservice to all the differences and how they influence your play.in Agricola early game you're just trying not to starve, and in the late game you might reap the benefits of whatever you had the time to set up early while still trying to not starve. Action blocking is a thing but you score for having a bit of everything and specializing in one or three specific things, so it won't be a big problem until the playgroup learns how to play the aggressive game.In Ora et Labora you're mainly interested in ways to multiply your wealth and build a nice tableau, food is less of a constant need and more a means to an end, that end being spending your fuckhuge hoard of food and fuel to drop big, rich settlements and score the adjacency bonus on your important buildings, or trade them all to the Church in exchange for relics and holy paintings that somehow alone are worth about as much as a whole castle (maybe more, i forget the exact numbers). But making big money is not easy when other players can just pay you some beer and use your building AND lock it down for the next 3 turns to cuck your engine early.
>>97256096Fields of fire was pretty good I think
>Everyone points out that "Le demons are not evil" was a huge trend>Can barely remember any media that doesnt' have not-evil, not-succubus demons>The first that came to mind was devilman and they are still dicks thereWhat is with this weird fauxtrarian bullshit
>>97258053My schizo theory is that game companies are getting rid of Slavery in their games because they tapped into the zeitgeist that modern corporate policy is just a more elaborate form of slavery. We stopped selling people because it's easier to pay them a barely-livable wage and convince them it's *their* fault they're poor.
>>97257564>christian demons or hellYou are extremely wrong because you are implying that Christianity is the only religion with a concept of demons or hell, when both are universal concepts.Buddhist hell is very complicated, and Japan has had an interest in "Demon Lords" for quite some time. Oda Nobunaga even called himself one, in the same way Attila had the name "Scourge of God".
>>97257447>>Can barely remember any media that doesnt' have not-evil, not-succubus demonsMost things with demons have demons that are evil. There are not a ton of examples of things where even the more "sympathetic" or "complicated" demons are not still evil, deep down.
>>97258076You're overestimating them. Corporate has been told the way to support minorities is to include them in the product. Representation = Endorsement. Thus putting slavers in a product endorses slavery.
Reminder that all this started when some genius read Paradise Lost with absolutely no critical thinking skills and concluded >Oh my science Lucifer is not even a bad guy and God fucked him over! He's a hero if you ignore all the terrible stuff he's done and refuses to acknowledge and apologize for!
In my games, high level wizards turn to stone.
>>97252435Normally Dwarfs in Warhammer can't wield magic at all because they were made so by the Old Ones (in part because they wanted them resistant to Chaos). Dwarfs however created Rune Magic that is a bypass for them and their inability to use magic.Chaos Dwarfs however can use magic because they were granted it by their own Chaos God Hashut after they abandoned their traditions and Ancestor Gods for pragmatism in order to survive all the shit that was falling on them in the Dark Lands. When they did embrace him and changed over the generations, they got their magics (including the Lore of Hashut which is unique only to them).Problem is, and it was mentioned before, that Dwarfs were not build to wield magic. And the more their Daemonsmits and Sorcerer Prophets use their powers and channel the Winds of Magic the more they turn into stone. And no, being turned into a stone sculpture IS NOT a good thing for them (in fact it's not good for anyone). In fact the main temple of Hashut in Zharr-Nagrund has the main road to it decorated with stone sculptures that uses to be Daemonsmiths and Sorcerer Prophets that succumbed to the stone curse.
>>97253098Grim
>>97253558Yeah. But they use it either way due to the fact that it is power that is useful to them. They have to however conserve their powers and be careful while casting. Even then the curse of stone is still a thing and it simply very slowly affects them.

>>97257643It's about as busted as being a Machine Trait Admech with a bunch if Unnatural Attributes in FFGNothing wrong with a bit of broken power gaming. Something I was pretty disappointed in is that they didn't take the time to make gear more... bespoke(?) In the Requisition Guide. They did that in the 4e Warhammer Fantasy books, the item traits & stuff are VERY heavy handed. Like how shields can be destroyed in one blow & not even having the durability trait can save it completely. This means shields are pretty shit to invest it
>>97257162The bitter internecine conflict between different GW departments would never allow it. They forbid making tzaangors in TW Warhammer to have bird heads because they have bird heads in AoS, for example. They are refusing to update stuff in Old World that was expanded on in AoS. Vespids got relegated to killteam, and so on. Pretty much the only thing that's used between the difference GW games are the daemon models, the rest is highly insular
>>97257658It's moreso about how some negative qualities are nothingburgers. If you're not the face then ugly nets you a free positive quality, and shoddy doesn't mechanically affect certain types of gear, classic C7. I typically equip every starting character with flak armour that I've stacked 2 nega qualities on to be able to afford.
>>97255948>though the rest of the economy is still really strangeWhen I once asked them about weapon prices in AoS: Soulbound (where multiple weapons with absolutely identical stats can have wildly different prices), they told me something to the effect that it's "on purpose, because weapons of different construction won't cost the same".The fact that it's AoS, where the same shape of a weapon can be potentially made from a grand variety of invented materials of greatly varying costs (which would make fixed costs for any weapons wrong to have at all), seemingly does not enter the calculation.
>>97257162There could be multiple votann specialties, like some beer drinking bikers prospecting on the surface, some nasapunk looking dudes tardwrangling them from space and when shit hit the fan they can take out huge goofy looking battle trains. But this is nu-GW and they're mentally unable to make armies with multiple distinct flavors.

Taking gnomes to a tournament next weekend. Not planning on winning, but Im aiming for at least the stunty cup trophy, and maybe best painted if I'm lucky. What do you guys think of these skill picks? I've got 6 spp to use, each primary costs one, and secondaries cost 2. Max of two added skills per player, and max of 4 of any individual skill/elite skills. Not sure if putting dodge on the linemen is the right move, and also not certain on multi block, though I think it could be fun, especially with guard support.
The throng swells by 1! Decided to paint them to slightly above table ready instead of ideal to have them ready in time for the league.
>>97257203This is slightly table ready? I would rate it ideal.
>>97257201Dont forget!
A lot of the modelling discussion I see around Mordheim involves encouraging the most yourdudes and individuality and customisability as possible, whilst all discussion involving playing the game discourages taking any armour, shields, helmets, and most weapon options on your dudes at all, entirely discouraging anything except "play with as little equipment as possible to cheese wyrdstone/gold/exp after a game"Why is this?

Wanted to talk about advice on GMing, settings you prefer, and styles or issues you as a GM have. I generally tend to prefer dark fantasy or sci-fi settings rather than trying something a little different. I also tend to have a style, depends on the system though, where i have a combat heavy session or two and then a more intrigue/exploration focused session. I have been working on how to better balance games I run, but trying to tie that to timing a game session gets tricky at times. Another issue I noticed is that puzzle solving or investigative games can be a lot harder for a player to get into the mindset for than the dm. It is easy to think everything you planned makes sense when you thought it out in your head but the players might not have the same line of thought.
players are retards when it comes to puzzles
>>97248491Yeah, we were playing once per week. I'll keep trying. My players are upset because they really liked the 5E campaigns that I ran, but they don't want to play indie games, and I've decided to stop running 5E.I even tried 5.5E. It seemed basically the same as 5E with a few noticeable differences. Maybe I'll go back to 3E or Moldvay D&D. That might be pretty cool.In any case, I just wish players would see that the system is there just to facilitate the play between the people at the table. It's possible to have a great game without having to copy Matt Mercer, and different systems allow you to do some things that you can't do in 5E.To be honest, even when I was running 5E, I was only loosely adhering to the rules and the players seemed to enjoy it.
>>97248144First of all, don't try to persuade people to play whatever it is. Just advertise that you're running it and then vet whoever shows up. Be explicit that it's not D&D. The only reason people advertise D&D games is because it's either all they know or they don't believe anyone will play anything else. But I can assure you, I've never failed to fill a table in a week or less, no matter what I'm running. And, ironically, you have to do far less vetting when you're running something that isn't D&D. The players who will show up for a non-D&D game are already experienced and they have some self-awareness and growth under them so they're already better than the D&D population. Now, am I gonna want to play your own personal little homebrew "system" that you just pulled out of your ass after six months of autism? No. There are tens of thousands of game systems and most of them all have far more professional design work and playtesting than your never-been-played-before bullshit. Be realistic and exercise some humility, some self-awareness. The odds are, your personal little toy is actually just D&D or GURPS or whatever with a few house rules, so be honest about that if it's true and you'll have more interest. And lastly, I've never had problems filling a table after meeting prospective players. So if you are having problems consistently, you are the common element in all those interactions, dude.
>>97252478Mostly because they're busy overthinking shit. If you put the same puzzle in front of them in the context of a video game, they wouldn't have any trouble at all. In a tabletop, they're bogged down trying to imagine whatever simulationist bullshit that might bypass / trivialize the puzzle so they don't have to think about it, or they're fizzing around with nonsense because they're worried it's one of those gotcha nonsense trick questions. In the former case, you need to establish clearly out-of-character that they need to get into the spirit of the game and stop trying to bullshit their way out of engaging with content. No one would build dungeons if adventurers just scryed the treasure location and dug a tunnel straight to it. No one would build a sphinx statue puzzle lock on the temple vault if people could just throw a bag of holding over the statue to open the door.In the latter case, it's a similar solution. Sit them down and explain to them the sphinx's riddle wouldn't serve any purpose if no one could solve it to open the door. The long corridor full of traps is obviously a series of skill checks to detect and disable them. You literally have several skills on your fucking character sheet which are specifically there so you can roll to see if your character knows anything related to the matter at hand. The game has fucking mechanics for this situation, dude, fucking use them.A lot of this is greatly alleviated by players being more familiar with you personally. And there's no shortcut for that, you need to spend time running games for them and demonstrating *consistent* behavior for them.
Does anyone know some good resources for dark fantasy or weird fantasy? I am mainly looking for stuff for BRP/mythras or stuff for ad&d.Is cults of zahak any good?
I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing. So the PCs are gonna be rubbing elbows with a lot of noble families as they make their way into high society. I’m just asking for NPCs and ideas. Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.
>>97251364The only "skill" that matters is the ability to generate wealth. And this is actually mostly about information gathering, finding the right resources or people to exploit.
>>97251474You have no idea what charisma actually is, do you anon?

Watch costume dramas and soap operas. Read 'period' bodice rippers and pot boilers. I mostly play male characters, but last time I let the die decide and the 50/50 chance commanded me to play a girl. While most of my male characters were mostly reasonable and collected, she was much more hotheaded and aggressive. This may have been a result of her backstory and class more than the sex, who knows.
Of course I have! It's fun to try and imagine yourself as all sorts of personalities and characters, across classes, ages, genders, species, and try and think on how they would act and react, given their personal history, abilities, and motivations.I call it "roleplaying", it's kind of like acting.
