Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!Last thread: >>97165346Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: https://pastebin.com/JNnj79S5 (embed) (embed)https://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator/wbi/: https://discord.gg/6ZjEc7dy4TWorldbuilding Hub: https://discord.com/invite/wGjxK3YThe Writer's Forge: https://discord.com/invite/CUxHxWqTira: https://discord.com/invite/f52W6KgComment too long. Want to brew a setting that's kind of a kitchen sink. The main inspirations are Planescape, Ravnica, Limbus Company, Smt, Kill 6 billion demons. Basically a huge town where all sorts of paranormal beings coexist with mortals. Do you have any ideas on where to start? I don't want to go too deep into worldbuilding, just enough to get a game going.
>>97373637It depends on whether social pressures incentivize magical abilities.

What GW will actually do in 2029 that wil lhave everyone seething is that they will canonize Malibron as the lost primarch of the 11th and bring him back with necron tech and it'll be part of the Great Crusade subgame for Horus Heresy (which will also include the launch of the Laer and Goro Orks who used gravity weapons instead of the normal orkish guns).

>>97368748Overall I really prefer it. The core rules are so much better where they actually changed them. Monsters feel like proper monsters now. You can’t mix and match with lists like before, which for some people is a negative, but for me it’s a positive. Yes you are locked out of some combos now but balancing allies before was painful. If you’re coming from any mainline GW game, you can expect MESBG to feel way more balanced than games you are used to playing, and within a few games you’ll quickly realize how much more skill tends to matter in MESBG.
>>97372720Thanks for the feedback, I was always interested in the skirmish model, so the game felt like a good alternative to mordheim for the times when I wanted something different.
>>97372479It's not worth much, the killzones are all bespoke now and have predone arrangements. Super nice for Horus Heresy or Necromunda though. Current edition of Kill Team is honestly a tournament-focused game (and it does it better than 40k).
>>97372479>I'm getting back into Kill Team after a few years and found a box of all the terrain they sold in 1st edition including the original starters massive 40k terrain and all the shit like trenches given away with kill teams to clear stock.None of this sounds familiar. Do you have pictures? The Wall of Martyrs is the only trench-like official terrain I remember. I do not recall GW "giving away" terrain with Kill Teams at any point, and it doesn't sound like a normal GW practice.
>>97372479I play kill team with custom terrain setups all the time. Assuming that by "1st edition" you mean either KT18 or KT21, the game is still played on the same size of board. It's also just the most recent teams being 5 model squads, I imagine a result of the design team finally feeling brave enough to open that option up for new teams and being able to unleash all the options that they've had in store. There are still teams with up to 14 models and 10-ish models is very common.
>>97370092>>97370706Which edition is that? Cause I’m pretty sure in 3.5 you can’t give chosen jump packs or thunder hammers.
>>97372009what edition could you make chosen into vanguard veterans?thunderhammers have historically been a loyalist weapon.
>>97371006I think you are confused or something. 5th edition codex are the ones that feel dull, unimaginative, hard to use (thanks to the troop info being split and duplicated in two different parts of the book) and unbalanced as fuck. Yes that style of book started during 4th ed (eldar, orks, dark angels, chaos) but those are straight 5th edition books. The ork one released like one month before 5th.In the other hand real 4th edition dex are very good and compatible with 3.5 space marines, tiranids, tau for example.
>>97373980NTA, but his opinion on 5E books is probably colored by how good the DE codex was. (It was genuinely really good, as was the model range refresh.)Also the 4E Ork codex came out like 9 months before 5E dropped. But maybe you were just being hyperbolic.
>>97370092You can't give them jump packs but you can put them all on discs or give them daemonic flight (wings) which is even more kino

Unless there's something I'm missing, in 5.24e if you take the Hide Action and succeed the DC 15 Stealth roll, you're Invisible until you make a loud enough sound, attack, cast a spell with a verbal component, an enemy with Blindsight/Truesight/See Invisibility has line of sight on you within their special senses range, OR any enemy takes the Search Action (Perception) and meets or exceeds your Stealth Roll total/DC. Wouldn't this mean you could just stealth and wander about really quietly, like it's BG3? Get Advantage on most fights unless something's got a special sight that can catch the group?
>>97373741>Just stat it for your party anon.I'm trying to I just want to make it "agnostic" of the party as well, and have it make sense for what it would be in the world. Been looking at a lot of CR 4 constructs for comparison and they mostly don't have immunity or resistance to non magic non adamantine BPS, except stone defender or whatever. Still, it's one construct out of many.idk maybe if I post the stat block it'll help. It's a high-toughness low-damage monster, so a slog to fight...but also, 60 hp is gonna get shredded by a level 5 party. Maybe I should up its damage? Increase its hp? I dunno. They are level 5 but CR 4 creatures are still relevant in groups. So resistance to nonmagic BPS starts to fall apart REALLY fast.
>>97374032you make the stats to fit the partyif you want the party to realize the archer is useless and the barbarian with the maul is the most effective and the other should take care of ads etc you make him immune to piercing and vulnerable to bludgeoning. Oh, that's the solution! etcnothing should be party-blind in a game you curate for people to have funyou're not writing a book, you're trying to maximize the fun of people

Every once in a while there's a thread popping up about how badass and stronger 40k's setting is, but big time professional question ironically raised by an autistic friend of mine at the pub yesterday:Could the Imperium sucessfully afford to invade and take over Kirby's planet?
>>97368786>>97368794Death Battle is cancer and they lied to you, Kirby is not that strong.
>>97373252>Death Battle is cancerTrue.>they lied to you, Kirby is not that strongFalse. Name the weakest setting you think can beat Kirby.
>>97368786This one: >>97373160The Imperium could absolutely take Pop Star up until the point Kirby notices and eliminates them. Kirby is EXTREMELY powerful, but he isn't omnipotent (he's actually kind of stupid) and he's quite lazy. Kirby's desire to "solve a problem" is directly proportionate to how much it's personally inconveniencing himself, his lifestyle, or his immediate friends. Once Kirby "locks on" to a problem though, he's like a pit bull: he won't let go until he's completely resolved the situation, as he understands it. >>97369816>>97370105>>97372575What people don't really understand about Kirby is that his power over Empathy means he has to match power escalation. Kirby, canonically, possess an infinite source of power, but it's entirely reactionary: King Dedede stealing all the food in Dreamland (the province, not the planet/country), and then challenging to a boxing match, is just as much of a "threat" to Kirby as that Gene-Stealing Super Organism in the recent game wot tried to kill Kirby by dropping a planet on the planet he was occupying. These are equally difficult situations for Kirby. >>97372575>>97373233Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

With 9gag and Reddit the worst you had to worry about was internet points and just flat out claiming your ideas were theirs. And the fundamental problem is the kind of thread this sort of monetization encourages. Like the pattern on Twitter is>4chan OP with a question>the thread got a lot of replies, so it must get a lot of replies on twitter tooAnd again these accounts are monetized, so you have an endless churn of>ELF GF WHAT DO>WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF ELF GF>ELF GF IS RACIST AGAINST HUMAN, OH NO WHAT FUNNY SITUATION

>>97367642Companies are shoving GenAI into shit where it's actively harmful to their productivity because it sells well to venture capitalists who all think it's the future because they've got the attention spans of goldfish and have been fully hoodwinked by the GenAI grifter loop. And they're "correct" to do so, because their legal duty is to shareholder value, not profitability. My last promotion was when my boss was elevated to "Senior VP of AI implementation" and I took his place as department manager. It happened because the company President has been seduced by a tech-bro friend of his and my former boss was literally the only person in management who was enthusiastic about AI, and while I'm running the department now, we still get a new and mostly shortlived AI implementation that fucks something up every 4-6 weeks and reduces the productivity of whatever department is that implementation's sacrificial goat, until the other department heads manage to cry about the results enough that it gets rolled back (crying about changes in your own deparment is counterproductive, it makes you "not a team player"). In 3 years since this started, there have been two GenAI chatbots that actually helped productivity. The first is a voice to text bot that turns voicemails into emails. It's not as good as the free one on my cell phone, but it's also less secure. The second is one that takes GPS data from our sales department's cell phones to suggest the correct customer account when they are filling out their sales paperwork. It's not that the sales guys don't know what customer they're visiting, it's that if they don't do their paperwork at the customer's location, they are required to type in the customer's information themselves, so it reduces how many sales requests get consigned to post-it note oblivion in some salesman's car and forgotten about until the customer calls the head office all pissed that they never received what they were trying to buy.
