>Like, is the supernatural part of blood bond less effective if you truly love somebody the hard way?
Vitae and its bonding aspects are the specialty of one of my siblings, but not mine, so I don't know it super-well, much as it chafes against my super-smug persona to admit I don't know something. That said, I'm fairly confident that true love don't matter for shit, babes, blood bond's the blood bond.

If you love somebody like a mother, the blood bond might focus on that, and if you want to fuck them, it'll probably be romantic and sexual instead, and there's a lot other angles, even hate-fucking and rivalry as blood-bond fuel. Buuuut at the end of the day, blood bonds are slavery! Next to chains of iron, whatever emotions somebody feels really doesn't matter for shit.

>Do they diablerize more in the Sabbat?

Oh, nah, babes, feel free to blame the seer for your fortunes and misfortunes! I really don't mind, it's part of the job description to be the bringer of the good and the bad and to be blamed for both. And I like it, kind of, gives me a feeling of power. I don't want to benefit from someone else being in thralldom. Only reason I can tolerate this is a bond is somehow better than the default Malk mental package and I refuse to treat her like a thrall.

>Want a few more readings, maybe for that giant Tzimmy thing, or for whether you should be boarding the next flight off of the continent?
Sure. More the former than the latter though. There are a few options and I'll leave Marquette when everyone else in the community is packed and on the road.

>I guess it can't be helped, if you just don't see the future and its many perils as clear as I do!
That I'll grow addicted. That I'll lose my mind. That my Self will be suborned partially or in totality by my victims. That for eternity the action will mark me as a cannibal among my kind. That I'll see every other vampire, my pack included; as a meal.
I know the perils. I can live with them, given the alternative.

I think I cracked the code.
Assoluta came home acting like I was still a blood doll, open mouth, fangs out, but she stopped.
I was like: "Not hungry? Don't wanna be blood bond?", but she revealed she's unusually resistant to it, and stopped cuz I'm not a servant anymore. "Force of habit", she said.

I don't know if any systems give any bonuses to elven ears. In real life, heightened hearing means being able to listen to frequencies and tones that are above or below what most humans can hear, but typically tones that are in normal ranges are roughly the same since sound is a physical phenomenon. Here's a video to demonstrate.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM4WSBZanQQ
"Hearing age" is a bit of a pseudoscientific term, but it does reflect the range of noises you can detect with the naked ear and kids tend to hear higher frequencies.
>>
>>97224585
Nevermind, that video is just trash, here's a better one that doesn't literally cut the audio for engagement bait
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAsMlDptjx8
>>
Any obscure systems with good elf gameplay? I've only played mainstream RPG's (D&D, Pathfinder, WFRP, and GURPS)
>>
>>97224306
>Their ears are good. But in what way?
>Do they just hear everything louder? Would suck massiv ass in an city and elves would whisper to each other in their cities.
I would say yes. Larger ears would catch more noise and channel to the ear canal, meaning they would hear things as louder. (you can simulate this by cupping your ears with your hands while trying to listen to something). Also, likely, like dogs, they'd be able to pick up on frequencies of sound beyond human hearing.
This is why most elves eschew city life and prefer to live in forests or other remote locales.
>Or is it meant in a my ears can distinguish noises very good like you can count e.g. 25 gobbos by their footsteps alone through a door?
I would say also yes. If they evolved (or were created) to have ears that collect more sounds, their brains would be similarly developed to interpret and distinguish one sound source from another.

>Is it just very sharp eyesight or can they see in the dark or whatever?
I like to think of them as just sharper, without any better vision in the dark than humans, barring elves that live underground.

Also how high can elves jump considering their are basically weightless (like in lotr) and how far can they fall until the get hurt (if they get hurt at all)
They'd have weight, just lighter of frame and better agility for landing on their feet like a cat or tucking and rolling to disperse the impact like a young (still with all their knee cartilage) parkourer?... person who does parkour.

heard the video before. reminds me of a joke of what colours animals can see and what we can see and it was the same twice. also would apply for sound since i don know whats after

You think elves would hear more in the lower and higher?

>I don't know if any systems give any bonuses to elven ears.
well not specifically a rule in game or setting but i just want to know what they could do. For example my elf player wants to hear whats going on on the other side of the door. And i want to roughly know what i can tell them. Completly aside from rolling dices and rules. Just on a basic level

>>97224614
> Larger ears would catch more noise and channel to the ear canal, meaning they would hear things as louder
wouldnt that be terrible for combat which is terribly loud and noisy normally? i mean you could definetly stuff yours ears with wool or something as a solution but still. Basically they would have to do that all the time when talking to other races aswell no?
Also some elves also live in cities. (considering in the setting "high elves" exist which build and craft stuff (loud) exist.)

can fit the rest of the answer well into my stuff.

Dear Anon, thank you for the wonderful gift!
The weird Stirlander has been enlisted into a free company and will be supplied an appropriate livery. The Kriegork will lead a Kommando squad, they have been lacking discipline lately.
The squigs are adorable, I'm thinking about substituting my bomb squigs for them for the upcoming holiday game. The plushie is going to live on my bedstand guarding my books.
As for the Leviathan, he's perfect. I'm working on one right now and wonted a second for symmetry. I'll try some freehand on his large front armour panels.
The sweets will likely be gone by the end of the day. I'm very fond of panettoni!

I hope you have a warm and cozy Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year in matters of hoby and otherwise!

>>

It's one of the most played systems here so, that would say something about it. If you like to come up with things and like the flexibility of the random generation it's pretty good. Takes some time to lean but it also has the pre-made Adventures which sort of teach you how to play. Plus the author is pretty fast at fixing things or is always welcoming towards suggestions or homebrews

The Monster Manual is also great. It may seem like a minor thing, but I think that it has both the % in lair and Morale score figures is absolutely great, I miss the first one in B/X and the second one in AD&D.

And the encounter tables are SO well made. They're really an improvement over the ones Gygax made in the DMG... and I already thought of the Gygax tables as the best in the hobby to begin with.

How do you justify a "pest race" like goblins or rat people in your setting? Why wouldn't the dominant species make a concentrated effort to eradicate them if they were a problem?
154 replies and 26 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>97224342
That's the most reasonable explanation I can think of. Goblin threads are pretty common there but I don't think I've ever seen them moved here before. If anything they're usually just left to hit the bump limit.
>>
>>97221079
To contribute to the "us vs them" tribalism that distracts the unenlightened masses from the underlying problems that really plague the world?
>>
>>97221977
That's different, because the government spent the last 5 years actively trying to get more and more of them for cheap labour.
Which could make for a fun fantasy setting, importing the greenskins for convenient workers, goblin girls trying to snare a humie husband so they can stay in the kingdom...

I run a post apocalyptic mecha setting and it's pretty comfy. There is still civilization in a few places but the world is ravaged after a huge world war and people mostly band together to fight monsters. There's a lot of introspection and solitude that lets characters really take a breath because they visit a lot of places that were once clearly filled with people everywhere

The emperor being immortal and responsible for humanity's progress since pre-history is spin written by a fanatical church. He wasn't 10 feet tall, the most powerful psyker ever etc. that's just how his legend has grown over the 10k years since he fell.

Next you'll act like the primarchs were actually his "sons" and not just warlords he recruited and put in charge of the legions during the crusades. 4e's sub model was hilariously successful and you'd know if you weren't getting made up infographics from PFG
>>
>>97224489
4e's online tools and plans for a VTT and further products fell apart because of a murder-suicide.
>>
>>97224529
lol, you have zero info on anything that happened post release. 4e's sub model included tons of magazine style micro supplements being released all the time, feeding into the most robust character builder at the time. The online tools also served as a much better resource than the old SRDs, including easily printable monster cards that auto-calculated and scaled to level, which were also easily customizable. Every new book also fed directly into this model and so you have this vast repository of things to easily reference and create if you were subbed Like, people loved the crazy convenience of the system and it was a hell of a deal for the average guy. You don't have to like the game, but fucking know what you're talking about.
>>
>>97224577
D&D insider was a decent idea and it was the blueprint for D&D Beyond, more or less, but "hilariously successful" in terms of money making is not remotely true.

This /biz/ routine you keep doing just leads me to ask one thing of you: Post hands.
>>
>>97224605
NTA but DDI could be tracked on the lowball by the D&D Insider group in WotC's community. This was a lowball because you also had to have a community account registered to it (not necessary). In 2013 at one point it had grown to a 81k userbase, with a monthly sub of minimum 10 bucks. Calculate that over a year and you have over 9 million, and 2013 was a slow year because literally no new books came out. I don't know what to tell you except that's crazy revenue on an off year, totally unseen in the industry before that.

I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.

Unironically the best part of 10th was when marines had Armour of Contempt. It made marine armour feel significant against small arms fire.

That being said, too many attacks, too much AP, too high strength for basic cheap troops in 9th was a nightmare. Orks were balanced good though.

The sad thing is the core faction identities were well done, with interesting and varied mechanics. It was the inflation of the basic statline that was a major issue.

8th ed statlines with 9th ed faction rules could do the trick

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Oh, yeah, that would make sense. I guess I've always just been too satisfied with Hexographer's color version of the Basic glyphs to really bother with the B/W ones.

I have upsetting news for you. He was probably one of the most conventionally attractive, hygienic and personable players there.
However he WAS short, is the only upside I can report.

His MO appeared to be roping you into a false sense of pleasant-gaming-ness and asking for little things in the spirit of a "good game" but they'd get to be progressively more ludicrous asks. But because you gave the last thing to him, and this other thing wasn't that much worse, and the guy's nice, why not?
He just overplayed his hand against me by claiming terrain doesn't exist unless both players agree to it or whatever

Well there you go, anon. Manlets belong in the pit.

GW rules trump the dictionary. LoW Detachment is an Additional Detachment as oppose to an Auxiliary Detachment or Apex Detachment.

Anon, leave it, he's baiting.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

I'll take a look, thanks

I need some help and I can't post too much because my GM might be lurking here (High tech/Horror):
Last session, one of our party members bungled something up and we ended up teleporting to random places in the world
I ended up dumped 60 miles off the coast in the middle of the ocean with naught but the clothes on my skin.
What can I expect to do other than starting to make a new sheet?

In what way is HP magic 'soft'? It doesn't seem flexible at all; each spell does a very specific thing.
The only magic system which seems like a good fit is advantage-based a la Chinese Elemental Powers or Psionic Powers, since there isn't any real 'cost' in either prep or recovery.

I like it, but what would the SP stand for?

I don't think any are absolutely 'must read' but:
Alternate Guns Specialities and Techniques (3/65) neatens up the guns skill.
Opus Longa, Pugna Brevis (3/120) is good for cinematic pacing.
The Thrill of the Chase (3/112) expands the chase rules.
GURPS Fathoms Five (3/26) is essential if you want any scenes with a lot of water.
Various vehicle articles, of which Highway Stars (4/2) is probably the best.
For a globe-trotting game, one of the language articles. Colorless Green Ideas Sleep Furiously (3/44) is OK, but I'm sure there was an even better one for cinematic games which I can't remember the name of.

Thanks, these seem very useful.
