From my perspective, "evil" characters are much more free than good characters in their actions and possible roles. Even just defining what their code of conduct is (since it's not a moral one) leads to many more interesting possibilities than with a "good" character. Arbitrarily limiting yourself to characters who you morally agree with just seems stupid.Yet, most campaigns and GMs don't even allow evil characters among the players. Hell, half the time people are afraid of having any truly evil characters at all, even among more villainous npcs that might even be the main antagonist(s) of the game. Why?
Seriously though, fuck off, frogspammer.
>>96841276A lot of players would feel bad doing evil acts to NPCs. Even in video games, the good route is usually preferred.GMs don't allow evil characters because they wouldn't want roleplay the NPCs after evil PCs have done some serious heinous acts (i.e. rape, torture, etc). Also, you don't want a party where the PCs will turn on each other which would be more likely if the entire party is evil.

To whoever posted the Overland Travel substack last thread: thank you! It's exactly the kind of legwork I was looking for when I came to /osrg/ but got blackballed.I'll go with the Simulacrum approach by dropping the miles pretention, assigning a Movement Points pool to animals and vehicules, a Movement Cost to hexes and voilà. It's apparently how 0D&D started and as a former hex and shit wargamer it's what makes the most sense to me because you can fiddle with a lot of details with this kind of design and the maths stay super easy.I'll get the guide to check for orientation in the morning with an Int check, the look-out to check for random encouter at night with a Wis check, the leader to roll any reaction with a Cha check and maybe a Dex check for the occasional hunter so everybody is involved and happy. Hex will be treated as containers so anything obvious is described while travelling but any hidden sites requires a whole day searching the hex itself.Rancourt wrote something really sensitive at the end of his long study and it made quite an impression on me: if I'm using curated dungeons and not proceduraly generated ones, why would I use proceduraly generated overland and not curated one?
>>96841084>dropping the miles pretention, assigning a Movement Points pool to animals and vehicules, a Movement Cost to hexes and voilàWhat do you mean? That's exactly the same as what you call the "miles pretention": The "movement pool" is the number of miles you can travel in a day.

>>96841149if pot gets hit what is odion going to replace it with? i own the deck in paper
>>96841214I don't really see Pot of Greed getting hit any further since running 3 copies of it will already eat up the majority of your points. The reason that Extrav getting hit was a conversation point is that it had 0 points associated with it, when all 3 of the other (good) pots cost a pretty hefty chunk of change.I do think it's likely that Odion will get hit directly, though. It does well in Advanced tournaments and is particularly strong in Genesys format. Two blind guesses would be that Treasure of the Kings will get something around ~20-25 points while Apophis the Snake (the one that turbo's out trap monsters) will be hit similarly. You could make an argument for The Man with the Mark, but I don't think it's bad to have a consistency tool like that in their deck and Konami probably wouldn't either.

What are good ways to make my Arabian Nights campaign feel distinctly Arabian in vibes?Eg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qr5E54nCDg0
>>96841173I mean vibes. Like immersive.
>>96840962Well, the best place to start is setting it in the desert, unless you want to take the Sinbad route and go for an Indian Ocean thing. Also, are you using Al Qadim? It and its supplements are a good place to start.
>>96841320So I should steal concepts etc. from Al Qadim?
>>96841330I mean, if you're playing D&D, then Al Qadim is a good tool. >>96833406lol
>>9683298913th age glorantha is the least crunchy>>96833406im glad ur happy with ur mcchicken dude. I think a class system that is resistant to adding new classes is hard to do well and I don't think 5e does it well. Even boomer dnd had a better class list than 5.1. My game has 52 classes ( I'd say 5 of them should be cut ) and players build their own subclass which leads to a much large variety of characters than something like 3.pf or 5e where you pick your subclass and most of the rest of your character is pretty autobuild
>>96830445>NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND WE HAVE TO HAVE 30 DIFFERENT CLASSES ACROSS 15 SPLATS THAT ARE JUST EXISTING CLASSES WITH ONE DIFFERENT FEATURE! YUM YUM I LOVE SPENDING 60 DOLLARS FOR THE SAME SHIT I ALREADY HAVE EXCEPT WITH ONE LINE OF NEW TEXT!3aboos are a joke.
>>96833406>To create a class from scratch in 5e is much harder than in 3.X or older. It really isn't. Speaking from experience. In fact, it's easier because there are established design cues in 5e that make balancing homebrew against core classes much easier.>To create a subclass is well within the purview of even a novice homebrewer, but if the fantasy in question isn't captured well enough by the base class, it creates its own issues. Again, it's really not that hard.>but it's such a hard wall to climb to add basic shit like ninja or samuraiSamurai already exists in 5e, it's a Fighter Subclass. Arguably, Ninja falls under Shadow Monk.>the system tries to gaslight you into thinking those are subclassesBecause they really should be. Maybe the way they were designed weren't the best (I've drastically altered both examples I used for my overhauled 5e classes, making Samurai more of a samurai and Shadow Monk actually capable of doing ninja magic), but making them subclasses? That works perfectly fine.Hell I could totally see Samurai working as a Paladin Subclass instead of a Fighter one (though really, wouldn't that just be Crown Oath Paladin?) and Ninja as a Rogue Subclass (possibly another half-caster option, or using the 2024 rules they get new abilities to spend their Sneak dice to do ninja tricks when they score a sneak attack, or otherwise have ninja abilities). There's just not enough meat on those bones for a full class without being almost 90-100% overlap with another existing class.>>96834598>52 classesComment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>96841104Ninja has been a seperate class from monk and thief since like 1986>>96841104The classes all have their own mechanical niche. The first printed version of barbarian was not fantastic so there are several variant barbarians that use different gimmicks. One can rage on command once a day, one rolls to see if they start raging each round. These are variants of each other. Then there is a class that rolls a bezerking dice to access different abilities based on the roll, there is a class that pools a savagery resource to fuel powerful abilities- kind of a rage pool but this class has nothing to do with wow. There is a class that can cast dark magic and sometimes rages and attacks a random enemy and finally there is a port of the 4e barbarian with a list of totemic rages. Thats the class by far with the most variants. Each class has to build its own subclass out of large pieces.
