>>96591026the only thing that i dislike about the DPP minigame is that it's terrain dependent. which means one more reason to make sure terrain layouts are boring and symmetrical like 40k
>>96590935If the rules are shit for too long, then ya I can see that being true. But if a really great model or model range comes out and they're shit for half an edition, I don't think that's necessarily a death sentence. Then again, with the way GW likes to treat a lot of models more like MTG cards these days, sometimes the rules might just be as long lived as the model.
>>96591035>But if a really great model or model range comes out and they're shit for half an edition, I don't think that's necessarily a death sentence.i mean that certainly seems to be the case for gitmob. people were absolutely HYPED for that release and then as soon as we saw the rules all that energy deflated like a sad balloon
>>96590935Darkoath had the problem of copying Dunland from the previous edition of MESBG, where they're technically part of a larger army but realistically you're either running pure Darkoath with not even a splash of anything else for the AoR, or not using them at all.
>>96591050I'm purely a hobbyist so I'm not bothered by the quality of rules at this point. Maybe I'll play some day.

>>96583678>>96583774I think a better way to put it is that he can't grant powers, can create biomass out of nothing, nor rearrange tissues at large scale. But, there is still stuff like hormonal manipulation, which is a subtle, yet disturbingly powerful tool for someone skilled in biochemistry and psychology. It lets you do stuff that's basically mind control lite, or instill very strong conditioning that's practically impossible to break out of completely. You can brainwashing your captives into being your willing and eager servants that would gladly jump into a raging inferno for you.You can make someone feel anything you want, from soul-crushing despair, to the highest peaks of ecstasy, to an intense attachment that borders on love. You'd think someone who can't make flesh golems isn't very dangerous, but with the right know-how, he can mess people up inside worse than any fleshwarper can.Think Mule from Asimov's Foundation, only instead of psychic influence you manipulate chemicals in the brain.Mule managed to conquer the galaxy with it, your guy can take over the world if he keeps his influence subtle enough.
>>96586012I don't understand what idea you're trying to communicate. You say he can't grant powers, and that he can grant altered vision, which is a power. You say he can't alter flesh, and that he can grant scales, which is altering flesh. What do you actually want him to be able to do?
>>96587540Wasn't the anon you were talking to, I just suggested a use of bio-manipulation that wasn't either:>power-granting>major shapeshiftingBiochemistry manipulation is neither of those, so I reckon it fits.It can even grant short-living superstrength pseudo-power though overclocking various glands to flood the body with certain hormones.Stuff like adrenaline, cortisol, and a number of others would put a person into a fight-or-flight mode, with emphasis on the "fight" with the right mix.Simultaneously, it would temporarily lift the safety limits on force exerted by muscles, resulting in >100% performance at the cost of potential crippling injury.Bam! Hulk mode with tard strength, useful in a pinch as a power-up for your disposable henchman. Works even better with a bit of warmup and an overall good physique.
>>96441201What are your thoughts on the incarceration of villains? And how easily can villains break out in your setting, are breakouts relatively rare or do the prisons practically have revolving doors like Arkham?

>>96590113wrong thread. anon said "wood elves", not "Wooued Aelves (tm)".
>>96589485>>96589777aright. gonna take a few to compile in to human readable form. it's been worked on by me and my group for ages so it's spread across multiple documents, notes, hieroglyphics, a chunk of it is just shared assumptions. but I'll give some summary since every design decision you make is bound to be a red flag for somebody.>How to make a listyou start with the Commander (ie caster), who has a points/slots for stat boosts, spells, abilities, and perks (basically lores that unlock groups of abilities that need to be balled together). All the different caster types share a set of common core rules and are differentiated by what they control and how those things work. strictly speaking it doesn't even have to direct-control things or be a spellcaster, it's possible to make a commander that's just a really skilled general or something if you want.what's allowed in the commander's battlegroup is based on the options you took during design. and the you do other battlegroups led by officers who use basically the same system but have fewer points/slots, and then their battlegroups. so typically it would be B1 - warcaster + jacks + support, B2 - officer with a unit, B3 - officer with a smaller unit + couple solos. you can scale up the number of battlegroups for different size games. and the officers can also be junior casters or whatever, lots of options.>Game Flow / Structurethe way we've been doing it is alternating activation by battlegroup. technically there's nothing stopping it from flipping back to pure IGOUGO but I like this better. when a battlegroup activates, everything in it takes its move then action in an order of your choice. Everything also wants to stay in the commander/officer's command bubble except for some extended range shit, so usually shit stays together and you don't have to worry about forgetting which things are in which group.
>>96590605>One Roll for attack resolutionthis took some work, but I like it. and it does a ton to speed the game up, reducing total rolling by half or 2/3rd. basic idea when it started was usually only one of the sequential rolls matter anyway. you only need to hit infantry, you only need to damage jacks/beasts. so just focus on that part that counts.it ended up being a little more complex than that to get a good differentiation between all types of defenses and weapons, but it still ends up feeling like WMH-ish attacks. you roll 2d6 against a defense stat, it can be boosted, extra dice can be added, and every point above the defense is damage. units have typing to their defenses, chosen from a short list, and weapons that are strong against a particular defense (like a Blast weapon attacking something that is relying on Dodge) get extra dice. it's pretty simple to calc and it works better than you think. plus it lets you get rid of a lot of special rules since they're just baked in to the stat.>(Some) Zone Terrainone change I really like from after 2nd was the change to forests where it encourages you to be all the way in or all the way out. Toeing in is not incentivized. that opens the door to treating more terrain pieces as discrete small zones where you need enough move to fully enter but the precise location of a model in it is ignored. which means you can have 3d terrain again, no fucking flat tables. the rules are still there for linear and area terrain, they're not gone, but if you have a 3d terrain piece then you can use it without trouble.
>>96590605>>96590669appreciated anon, I've had similar ideas myself especially the battlegroup activation because I enjoy how frostgrave works. It's neat to see what else people have thought of and I'd love to see any kind of playtested rules, Hopefully I can playtest it a bit myself and give some of my own feedback.

>mfw I finally got the last of my recurring characters' prompts rewritten to work reliably in SoraThis took way longer than expected, but I'm liking the results. To think I started in on this process just because Dall-E 3 wasn't able to do the pointed capirote-style hood I wanted for the new Inquisitor character I adding to my story last week. It's a very different style of prompting, but the lack of Bing's character limit is so nice. For those who have been following the story of Salafié the Techpriestess, I'm afraid I won't have a chapter this weekend. Between IRL work stuff and switching AI models, I haven't had time to write this week, but it shall continue soon.

>>96585559They're just the old (?) Shieldbreakers.I bought a box of 10 back in 2011 or 2012 to use them as hammerers for my whfb but i never liked them much. And the lack of bits and customization limited heavily what I did with them. I painted them, used them for a bit, then stripped thinking I could make them better with a different paintjob. In reality they ended up partly assembled in a box and i have not touched them since. You might need to replace some of the hammerers (the ones that were loose and not molded to the hands were used in a couple of kitbashes) They're currently in storage with my bits. Which I know doesn't answer your request but it does mean that I can't take a picture at the moment.I was always searching for alternative to GW miniatures and when Mantic was started over 10 years ago the prices were too good to be true so I bought one of those VHS-type boxes. Too bad their dwarf plastic infantry was never to my liking.So.... here's a picture of what I'm currently working on
Do you have any opinions on how large a TTRPG sourcebook should be?The GURPS Fourth Edition Basic Set comprises 575 pages, and is split into two separate books with consecutive page numbering, titled Characters (ch. 1–9) and Campaigns (ch. 10–20).In contrast, the ACKS Second Edition Revised Rulebook comprises 548 pages, but is consolidated into a single book, even though splitting it like the GURPS Basic Set (ch. 1–5 and ch. 6–12) would be fairly simple. The D&D First Edition Rules Cyclopedia is a single 304-page book. Dark Dungeons X is a single 410-page book. The Lord of the Rings is around 1200 pages long. Internally it is organized into six "books". Should it be published as six volumes rather than as three?
>>96579759>muh player opshunsPlayers shouldn't know the rules anyway. If they know the rules they'll start abusing them.
>>96580686Player rule ignorance extending to what their own fucking choices actually do is complete and utter bullshit. If you forbid them from making decisions informed by their own capability, then what you have made is a retarded guessing game.I don't care that this will almost universally result in optimizers. Balance your shit instead of leaving it to an end user to paper over your laziness.
>>96526396>In contrast, the ACKS Second Edition Revised Rulebook comprises 548 pages, but is consolidated into a single book, even though splitting it like the GURPS Basic Set (ch. 1–5 and ch. 6–12) would be fairly simple. You're somewhat mistaken there. ACKS 2nd Edition's core rules are split up between three books, the PHB, DM's Guide, and Monster Manual. Like with older editions of D&D they're meant to be part of the same set and you shouldn't really play without using all parts of it. Splitting up the PHB would be pointless and confusing.Obviously I think it's best for a ruleset to be as big as it needs to be to comprehensively guide and assist the DM in running things. The players may not need as much This is why the player's handbook was always its own thing, but the DM always benefits from having more things to reference and help him run and theres not any real situation in real games where you wouldn't want more rules rather than less
>>96580686>>96582811One decent (if boring) solution it's to give the players nothing except their character sheet, and do the much dreaded "session 0" meme to guide them in their character creation

I've really been enjoying reading through Runequest, so I don't understand why it seems so underrated in modern gaming. There doesn't really seem to be much interest in the current edition compared to early ones.I was hoping that there could be more excitement over its potential.Especially with the changes coming.
RQG sucks and Glorantha sucks when played outside of HeroQuest because the lore is incompatible with the rules. I like Mythras a lot but TDM doesn't seem to care about vanilla Mythras at all, only Mythic Earth and Classic Fantasy. And at some point they errattad the rules so point buy is only 75 points which is extremely crippling to most character concepts. And doubly odd because again they love pushing Classic Fantasy where you get 91 points which is way too many. Very odd decisions.>>96590765Suffers from Call of Cthulhu syndrome where a bunch of the numbers don't do anything, and it uses the old confusing version of Initiative. I would just use Mythras with the magic systems stripped out for a generic d100 system.
>>96590977Is it still worth learning if one wants to move out of the 5th edition dungeon?

Is Guts a good representation of a level 20 Fighter?
>>96590908Of course there is blood. he just hit them really hard and really fast.
>>96588254Damage immunity relies on a lot of assumptions or what sort of damage a Krak missile deals. And a Lascannon is also of similar threat. Shaving off d6 of a Fighter's dozen wounds is gonna sting all the same.Slaying arrows don't really affect anything at all, because I was already operating on the assumption that we're talking about a standard 1 wound marine infantry. The Fighter is already assumed to get the kill if he's able to get past a 3+ armor save. It's getting into range that's the main hurdle. Speed enhancements probably help more than anything else, since even just doubling movement is enough to decrease the 3-4 rounds of heavy weapons fire down to a mere 2 at best. And outside of some very good rolls that's not going to cut it.Again though, I already agreed that a Fighter had good odds even if both of them had the most basic toolkits available, with just mundane weapons and a standard bolter marine. Bringing up heavier weapons was mostly to illustrate that the Fighter class by itself, while good at taking punishment, isn't some sort of unstoppable force. You're talking about results that could, again, be achieved by 20 chaos cultists on a good day. Adding magical gear into the mix and it's more akin to a squad of Howling Banshees.Which to be clear, is still very good. But it's not so good that a Fighter would want to run across an open field into multiple enemies with heavy weapons. Nor would he really want to fight any army single-handedly, because attrition would still get him.Keep in mind 40k is a wargame where there are stats for Daemon Primarchs, which are absolutely as close to demigods as you can get within the tabletop, and even they can get taken out by sufficient volumes of fire.
>>96589304Easily.
>>96587329>For instance, a level 20 fighter would not know how to maintain and wield an arm-cannon or a repeating crossbow. A level 20 Fighter would not know how to throw knives.I don't think I'd want to play a game where a level 20 fighter can't do something that I could reasonably do in real life with 20 levels worth of practice.
