>>96762577>SHSL Soul got cut just as I was building a character around it, replaced with a stupid fanger optionFuck you, bitch
How do you prefer your magic, and how did you design the system for your setting?
>>96617229My settings magic ended up getting so complicated it needed me to make a wiki and give it a page. In short though,in the setting theres the physical plane - and the astral plane which invisibly overlaps it. In the astral plane, ideas take the form of a sort of mist, with denser concentrations of ideas becoming thicker and even changing states of matter in some cases. Some ideas are more powerful than others, namely if they are attached to powerful entities (such as "nuclear bomb") or connect to many other ideas as a root (such as "destruction" tying to "death", "pain", "darkness", "purity", etc.) Magic of any kind is when you take ideas from the astral plane and actively use them for an effect.Spells are large strings of ideas brought together, and are usually shortened verses of a larger prayer or poem. The poetry itself makes the phrasing easier to remember (poetry is meant to be spoken after all), and also allows for more subtle explanations of ideas to be said in fewer words by relying on the reader's understanding. You could theoretically detail every elemental step involved in making a fireball, but its a lot quicker and memorable to remember a bible verse than a 20-step cooking recipe without a book.Souls are themselves collections of information (for example human, male, womanless, penniless, a10 eyes) detailing every detail about yourself. Your body creates lots of magical energy due to all the concepts in it, regardless of if youre aware of it or not. If you can awaken the chakras in your soul (through traumatic life experiences and/or personal growth), you can cast spells or temporarily remove them to use astral projection (a la jojo stands).Or you can just ingest sentient hallucinogens that temporarily awaken your chakras to make deals with powerful magical entities and have them do stuff for you
>>96756169Where did you get this idea? And how much damage did it do?
>>96696947I agree, my focus items are just amplifiers. They let the mage channel more energy with less strain on themselves.
>>96617229What are magic systems so bad that they make you want to tear your hair out because they’re so shit? get to dislike Harry Potter magic as I got older, as they make no real explanation of why magic responds to pseudo-Latin words, say that you apparently need magic to make potions despite what Snape said early on, etc.
>>96769144Don't get me started on that. One of my biggest issues with it is things like how house elves can teleport even when Voldemort is the one who cast the spells against that kind of thing.
Good players are more important than a good systems. It takes less work to fix a bad system than to fix a bad player.
The point is to value players over systems.

>>96766753I didn’t describe it well. It was a chasm with a rope bridge over it. Rushing water could be heard down the bottom. They were talking about how to climb down because they knew the dragon lives in an underground lake. I didn’t make the dungeon it’s just Forge of Fury
>>96768324If your players are considering something obviously stupid and dangerous with no benefit or chance of reward it's ok to say something like >The sides of the chasm are too smooth to climb safely and you can see that the rushing water would easily smash you against razor sharp rocks
>Complicated social situation with multiple angles>Picks a reckless option seemingly at random completely aware of consequences>Faces a locked residential door>Spends 30 minutes deliberatingBut why?

>>96755344 again. This won't all fit in 2k chars. 1/X>>96763681LL like Labyrinth Lord. Where they start putting out their own content, and their core rules being basically the same as BX, just allows fans to mix and match LL stuff with AD&D and BECMI. If you make your own cross compatible 3.x Corebook (but with whatever fixes you think are valuable (possibly under a different license), you can push out supplements and adventures compatible with your base, but your customers don't need to be playing your system. They could be running 3.5. Or 3.0. Or PF1. Or Arcana Evolved. Or whatever. You get the idea. Don't include references to WotC non OGL stuff, but you could reference the OGL stuff. Not L&L. That was a 1-off disaster. Obscure crowdfunding site, expected the core rules to be profitable before release with no plans to expand it and he didn't have any art yet for the crowdfunding campaign - he did everything wrong. Don't copy him. Even if it's 3.5 based, copy people who actually made money. *Personally* I would look not to focus on published books. Put out your rules for free on a d20pfsrd or AoN type site, blog your process, and then launch a patreon and run a discord for early access and development influence and discussion to see what people want (with a patron only discord). *That* I would pay a couple bucks a month for. But basically I'd say combine the business models of Labyrinth Lord and Psi Wars.

The child of a knight is way more likely to get fast-tracked through squirehood than the child of a peasant.>The blood of knights is alchemically potent, and used for a variety of purposes. It can be used to synthesize medicine, for example, but it is commonly used to dope squires and mounts.>The decentralized pseudo-feudal nature leads to frequent infighting, and not all Courts share the same views toward other factions.>There is a non-zero chance that Lileath is straight up brainwashing the SBs. The tight-lipped nature of her cadre of priestesses does little to engender trust.>Some knights think they should purge the priestesses for the Eldars’ collective failure… Surely the Maiden’s human priestesses would make a worthier entourage…>Space Bretonnia is small, and it’s only managing to expand due to a combination of surprise and usurpation of Imperium border worlds. There is a distinct conflict between the invading knights and the Imperium citizens they now rule. Emperor x Maiden offshoot cult? Maiden is Slaanesh conspiracies? There’s options.>If the Imperium ever got a bead on SB and could spare the psykers, they might well be able to banish the mists that protect it…>Surely the Eldar would have something to say about it if they found out a cult of humans was keeping them from one of their only remaining gods…
