What are some interesting, original, or smooth-working elemental interaction systems in card-based games, be it TCGs or boardgames?

I'm not talking about just sorting game assets in various elements/factions that are sometimes used by card effects (like in Yu-Gi-Oh), but the way the elements themselves interact and play off eachother. For example, in Pokémon attacks of a certain type do more/less/double/halved damage to other types depending on the Type matrix.

The question might or might not be related to my shitty homebrew MtG clone game, but don't mind that.

Wouldn't you be making your game unbalanced? Pokemon has the excuse of a preexisting game, why would you do it on purpose and make a fire deck weak to water deck from the getgo?

I'm running an into the odd campaign and I'm going to use some elemental magic as a base for the magic system.

It will have all the classics, but I want to add some more obscure or unusual elementals too.

So far I got the ideia of dividing wind and air into two different elemental groups.

One pushes stuff and makes tornados

The other is more like suffocation, oxygen and oxidation.

Flesh is a cool one and well as blood.

Soul energy (green) Life energy (red) spiritual energy (blue) and occult energy (purple)

Wood/plants

Everyone chooses an element and then come up with interesting arcanum's based on the elements, start with 3.

If theye really get stuck they can just rebrand some of the arcnum from the book with elemental fluff and flavour.

I love the emotions one like fear, and salt, and fungus.

Acid is kind of a plant thing but maybe.

Ashes and embers could be cool.

Making variations on ItO's Arcanum that are still light and work with the system's design intentions is an interesting exercise and way to adapt the game back to a more traditional fantasy dungeon crawl without having to go full Mythic Bastionland levels of involvement.

Here you have books from the They Came From series (beneath the sea, beyond the grave and classified ones). It's not organized and some are duplicated, I haven't organize the folder. The Plan 9 supplement is for the They Came From Beneath the Sea rulebook, that simulates monster movies from the 50s and 60s.

Random loot table for stealing + gold. if enough times passes, someone is gonna notice her or put the pieces together.

You don't have to explain who saw her or how they saw her. it could even be an invisisble person tailing her and watching her. But don't stop them from stealing. you can drop quest hooks OR CURSED ITEMS

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image (follow the URL to get to a folder with some files, read the files to get to the archive). Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: What do you want there to be in the additional 27 pages of the new Basic Set?

This is making me wonder, how would you whip up an izuna drop in GURPS? Some kind of slam where you get bonus from the technique and skill bonuses?
>>
>>96910474
I'd say you'd start with Piledriver and add falling damage on top of the thrust+4 or thrust+2 at +2 per die done to the skull. The other big difference is that you start with an enemy in the air and the character must be able to get high enough to grab them. Getting the enemy into the air is left as an exercise for the player. Because the target is in the air, they cannot counter using a wrestling parry by pivoting unless they can fly or press against the air.
Defaults at -10 instead of -5.

For 5 creds more you get Mesh which is just a 5+ save without being situational. There is no reason to ever take Flak unless you have no armour and only 10 creds left to spend. Otherwise you take Mesh.
>>
>>96908770
If it isn't listed in the equipment in the Fighter's roster entry then check if they have any limitations on gear from the Trading Post. Usually everyone is able to get Wargear from there so it shouldn't be a problem. Mesh is Common meaning you don't even need to roll for its purchase or to specifically send someone to the TP as a post game action to buy it. You can just buy it any time you could normally buy gear for your Fighters. The only caveat is that technically you can't buy Common gear from the TP at gang creation without Arbitrator approval, but any sensible person isn't going to have issues with doing that. Otherwise just save the creds for the armour and buy it after the first game. As an aside when buying from the TP as the Seek Rare post game action you roll for rarity and apply all the relevant modifiers, and you are then able to buy as much as you want that is at that rarity or lower. There are some abilities and stuff that affects price of first bought when doing that for example though, but that doesn't prevent you from buying more. It only affects the price of the first one bought that action.

This is a very stupid theory.

You say that people "working 40K" quit because it's not lucrative enough but that people in the very same company working at SG are nevertheless lusting after "40K positions"

They would already know those positions are not lucrative. Furthermore, it's doubtful that the GW pay scale is simply tied to which studio you work in. It's far more likely that every studio has the same positions within it that earn the same pay. The main studio probably does have more of those positions, but that would be the chief difference.

So your claim is that people start working at SG, have all the info to determine that the job is not good, but still keep a fire burning in their heart to "work 40K". But the people who did work 40K cannot maintain that fire. Dumb stuff.
>>
>>96911114
>This is a very stupid theory.

That is because you assumed SG and GW 40k/AoS are the same, but they aren't. SG is Forgeworld, a subsidiary of GW with different leadership, budget and production line.

Yes the GW grass is greener than the Forgeworld grass, until they realized they had a family, they need food and not grass. I was going on a long rant about the history of Specialist Games revival since 2016 but there're no point. If you know, you know "trust me bruh".

But i'll say this : the releases of HH Age of Darkness has seemingly proved that GW has split Forgeworld/SG into 2 or 3 branchs now : one being HH/LI , two being TOW (or maybe it's the same division as HH/LI), and the other is "the rest of SG games". Yeah if i have to make a speculation "the rest of SG games" still sucks because likely these people are being shuffled around working on multiple games with completely different setting, deadline up the ass.

Spell Speed 3 effects (Counter Traps) can only be responded to by other Spell Speed 3 effects, and can be activated during the Damage Step.

It's pretty easily pendulum mechanics since even a lot of more experienced players will just flat-out refuse to learn them.

For some elaboration on my choices
>Psychic MC and Spirit Warrior have the dubious honor of making their respective classes, Psychic and Monk, almost painfully redundant.
>SW as an archetype is honestly pretty mid after the initial dedication, but the raw power of such really does carry you hard and mixes in everything. I glaze Monk a fair bit, but I'm not going to pretend that the reason most people pick it isn't its defenses, but Flurry of Blows. Well...here you go.
>Psychic MC is some of the greatest value you can add on any half/full-caster, all without needing to run a Psychic.
>Champion MC is similar value, but for frontliners not named Fighter. For longer campaigns that get out the early-game level, this helps match you up with Fighter's chassis in pretty much everything baring Bravery. And it is redundant enough that Fighter DOESN'T want to poach it! Mission Failed Successfully!
>Rogue MC doesn't hurt Rogues already in the party, but it does add plenty of value to more squishy builds or those that also want to skillmonkey. Rogue's low-level feats are also great, Dread Striker and Gang Up fit in every party composition.
>Medic and Blessed One are still the two most potent non-Cleric healing options available. They slap in any healer's kit and easily turn the adventuring day rules on its head. The Mercy nerf DID hurt BO's viability, hence why you don't hear too many people shout its praises, but it still a good way to keep your guys going against anything.
>Guardian MC is Champion MC that changes out the reaction (anyone else find it strange that they never gave a real name to the reactions, but just "Champion's Reaction"?) for Taunt and feats you actually want to buy.
>>
>>96910155
>>96910314
This mostly just feels damning of other character options if these are the most busted things.

Spirit Warrior only really bugs me because 1) Everything it does is shit monk should be capable of doing (without needing an archetype), and 2) the level at which things in it become available just feels incorrect. Every level 6 feat only feels like it's at that level so they can force you to take the oath feats at level 4 to punish you if you use Free Archetype.

Monk really feels like it directly opposes fighter by being very simple at a glance and then punishing you with mediocrity for not knowing the deeper tech and trying to just play it straight, rather than just fucking working regardless like Fighter does
>>
>>96910556

The PC2 Monk archetype Flurry debacle, then release of TXCG with the Spirit Warrior just really put the final nail in the coffin of "These people have no idea what the fuck they're doing!"
>>
>>96910556
Archetypes, both general and multiclasses, aren't really that powerful given the power limits of Class Feats. So a "busted" archetype isn't going to be something even that build defining compared to your normal Class/Class Feats. It is more the "tone" these archetypes have set, between fucking over full classes or changing how we view the meta of the game, in regards to the healnig ones.

>spoiler
That's always been the folly of Monk, no matter the edition. People see it and think it is "Fist Fighter but Now With Sauce(TM)", and not its own ideal that meant to stand out. It going to be complex by its nature, it just that many editions flounder on the mechanics of such.

Can't wait to leave this city, supposedly the tropical storm is over so we can head back to the coast of Florida without issue, I haven't checked the news cycle to see what's the situation.
Not that it matters my residence there was not static but I don't want to have to scram for a heaven after 3 hours of travel no matter how comfortable the jet is.

I concur with prior statements that Brujah are the easiest to masquerade as. I will also state that Prince Bey of Cairo has an open invitation to all Caitiff, should have the means to travel there and be so inclined.

The weather is clear here, and expected to remain so for at least the next week. If you pass through the Jacksonville/St. Augustine area, use extra caution: the Camarilla and Anarchs are on a war footing in response to frequent incursions from the surrounding Sabbat territories and are likely to be very suspicious of any out of town Kindred passing through.

Anyone else notice how loud the pain got recently? Feels like something is coming

Back at the city, there were lakes in the tarmac so it took us a few tries to land but, we're alright.
Apparently the Chinese lady who sent me and my partner to steal diamonds for a Toreador did it so we could sabotage his brother the ex-leader should I say, of the Triads to get herself the chair from his parents.
The good news 500K turned into 1 million to split since she never wanted her original take for setting it up.
Now me and my partner are 500K richer.

All of this is actually the progress of the chronicle I'm running for a friend who has been my eternal storyteller, this was my second time trying to run for just him and it's going much better than the first time.

Do you have any more insight?

The ambient pain has been getting louder recently and it presses deep in my throat. In the hospital it hums even louder. Especially in the ER and ICU. Even when it's mostly empty. Lately the agony has just been screaming to me. Worse than back in 1999.

Captcha says 28, I still say 8.

Welcome to the New School Revolution General, the thread dedicated to games derived from the OSR movement.

>What is the NSR?
the NSR is a subcategory of the OSR, it mostly follows the same play style but experiments further with the mechanics and settings
*broadly NSR games*
*have* a gm, a interesting setting, living world
*are* rules light, deadly
*and focus on* emergent narrative, external interaction and exploration

>What is this thread for?
This thread is for system, adventure, setting, mechanics, ongoing campaigns, anything that related to the *actual* game
POST ART ALSO, inspiration and for the tg threads

>What is this thread NOT for?
Meta discussions or drama of the games and its creators aka shadowboxing with twitter, reddit and the OSRG (frens with osrbros)

I agree with him, SWN and WWN were both incredibly disappointing and lame. They were my introduction to OSR and made me write off the entirety of it as low effort garbage for a few years.
