>>97830736Obviously this talks about the 5e version, my 4e knowledge is unfortunately quite limited. But I wouldn't think there are that many people like your friend, who have memories mainly about the previous variants and think it was 2e needs or should have. There's so many 5eWarlock fans because the fantasy of "Unholy Powers At A Dirt Cheap Price" meshes well with the absolute glutted hog that is the Warlock chassis. As shown, if it was just the fantasy or specific mechanics people like, they have options. But none hits *everything at once* like 5e Warlock does.
Speaking of warlock, any pointers for my very WIP brew? I feel I'm happy with the chassis now, still needs a ton of feats. https://scribe.pf2.tools/v/WHmHfolp

I kind of get why From Within has Medicine training, but Without having Deception is strange since it isn't like you are draining other people magic or power. It would probably be better to just give the whole class scaling Occultism training and word the lore clearer.>The lack of a Patron or enough lore to justify having/not having one is concerning, given the point of Warlocks in D&D.>I'm personally not a fan of Eldritch Gambit or Strained as an idea. I get that it presses them closer to Oracle and properly adds the Power At A Price idea normal Warlocks are missing, but essentially them all being Wild Magic Mages, down to even summoning an additional foe, reaaalllly makes them risky to actually have. If we are shitting on Daredevil for being worse at every role it's trying to be, I can't see anyone being impressed with a whole class that is detrimental (even if the odds of such aren't high). This might be better as a feat, something to opt-in over a core part of the class.>Also you likely outscale such a monster anyway by the time you could roll it so it is just annoying fodder that could fuck up a turn.>Why does Eldritch Ward gives me a random hardness shield?? Anyone in this godforsaken board playing in groups where power creep is not a factor? For example one person giving preconstructed decks to all other players at the table, or playing with self-made jumpstart or Wizard's Tower decks etc.
>>97830123Drafting, my dude. I love both booster and cube draft, but I get it's not everyone's cup of tea.I made a gauntlet of pauper decks some years back, tried to get a spread of archetypes and roughly equal power level. I didn't get the play out of them that I hoped for, but that's due to moving to a tiny town. The couple of times I've played them have been a lot of fun.
>>97830123That is basically what cubes are for. One thing I did was basically repackage the some Jumpstart packs since those are pretty easy to slap together for quick kitchen table games.
>>97830164got links for the pauper decks?>>97830164>>97830618cubes are just fine, I prefer to sit down and play right away tho
I have been experimenting with Wizard's Tower, and it's great in that you just sit down and start playing, minimal prep. The draft aspect is still there thorough the entirety of the game with the face-up cards. However this format has a flaw where 2 cards per turn floods your hand. On the other hand, if it's only 1 card per turn, things stall fast.Battlebox seems kinda unfun and Jumpstart requires physical cleanup after game ends which is meh.
>>97830630No I don't have them anywhere online, but they were basically the meta some years ago tweaked a little bit for balance and cost.If you want to do something similar I'd recommend just making a meta you liked (or think you'd like).
Is 40k a narrative or setting
>>97829407It is a setting before it's a narrative. As its popularity has exploded GW will be incentivized to tell more canon/official narratives, but at its tabletop roots it will always come down to being a vehicle for your, the player's, adventures, whether that's through the wargame, the various RPG's, fanfic and quests, or what have you.
>>9782940740k is a multimedia toy commercial.
>>97830102Just to clarify, I'm not denying cape comics' issue with being incapable of escaping decades-old status quo and just retreading the same ground ad infinitum. I'm saying it's completely coherent to criticise that in comic books (a non-interactive narrative medium), while still saying it's fine for wargaming fluff (something which exists first and foremost to give flavour to an interactive game) to remain largely static. Two standards for two things which do different things for different reasons, like
>>97829407It's a miserable little pile of secrets.

Obzan further speculate on encountering a "proto-Fluxium", a primitive state of Fluxium with more pure and pristine qualities compared to Udraiken & Orepirrus>the group gets confident enough to start exploring planes even beyond the vastoplanes>their first excursion to one of these lands Ingrid in the middle of an endless dark wasteland, featuring only mountainous monoliths and nothing else - no Necrium or Fluxium present at all, not even miniscule amounts of Fluxium>Ingrid suddenly gets jumped by something with an immense and overwhelming Necrium presence (based on its appearance, it's either an infected Hammer from Klaus's timeline or whatever was infecting them) and it hits her in the face with this>Ingrid survives (barely) and manages to either destroy or drive it away after a minutes-long exchange >chapter ends with Noelle & her companion confirming the weirder looks for some of the more peaceful creatures in Udraiken (and possibly the other Planes) is due to Necrium/Viralborgian influenceThe biggest things I can take from this jumpwise are a technology-corruption perk for the Necrium background, MASSIVELY raising prices for the Traveler background, maybe a portal generation perk to traverse vastoplanes for piquol sorcerers and maybe a drawback based on going too far beyond the known planes/vastoplanes. Also Ingrid upscale but that's obvious.

>>97793396If an update is in the cards, I would be grateful if you added the option to keep the devils chosen for Contractual Obligations as Followers post-jump. People bringing out random devils to basically use as a Stand is my favorite part of CSM combat, and I'm not really interested in the autocontract part of the perk, even if it is probably more exploitable. For similar reasons, if you have enough interest to change their items, I think a "subordinate concept" group Follower option for Devils would be really cool, similar to how War has Tank and Gun.

Serious question: What value do slaves actually have to your average PC? Like, I've never seen any PC / group actively engage in slavery because there never seems to be any substantial reward worth the effort. It's like crafting or running a business, there's just no *point* in engaging with the mechanics because the rewards are puny. How could you make it actually appealing to players? It's not like they can load up a ship and sail off to the ivory coast.

Welcome to /2eg/, a thread dedicated to all things 2nd Edition D&D related - including settings, lore, modules, and derived systems (Alternity, Buck Rogers XXVc, For Gold and Glory, Hackmaster, Myth and Magic, and more).Since 2e draws heavily from earlier editions, older modules are welcome too. Other media derived from AD&D (such as Infinity Engine video games) also has a home here. It's what you play, not how you play it. What campaigns have you made and how long did it take to flesh it out?
>>97822264No time. Prep is noob trap.
Been playing one shots lately, because of schedules conflicting and because I like trying new systems out to find the good ones to base a campaign around.I tried several methods. An Only War campaign that was mainly a series of combat encounters linked by a war movie plot that was just the ongoing conflict. One small starting operation against insurgents and then a longer conflict with Orks, that got sidelined after we couldn't manage to get together to play anymore. It's always there ready to continue if we want. Prep wasn't that deep, after I put together a few operation maps to give context during mission briefings. I probably spent more time cropping enemy stat profiles in a nice little sheet I could print out than getting sessions together.L5R was the next big thing. I put together the basic premise, named a bunch of NPCs and gave them personality, ambitions and all that stuff, most of them aren't even statted beyond "generic+1" . I put together a small conspiracy plot in case the PCs needed a nudge, but they soon went in another direction and I rolled with that. Prep work gave me all I needed, I just had to come up with the details. I had another subplot ready just in case, and it's turning out to be the main plot in the current second campaign arc that we just started.Between L5R arcs I GMd a cyberpunk 2020 campaign. It was supposed to be a sort of open table limited to our group but it soon became a regular campaign after a few players became unavailable. City map was done with google maps, a few factions with objectives and again a bunch of NPCs. We did keep the option to have the players change PCs between sessions, turned out pretty useful in some cases, like when the party had to interact with a zeppelin hijack from three different locations.Next thing I'm going to prep is Exalted, still have to think how to tackle that because I want to study the system first and boy, is there a lot to read. Then maybe a classic fantasy using GURPS.
>>97823521>Prep is noob trap.not true
>>97823521truth nuke
>>97822550If you prepare big stuff like factions or big mover and shaker characters with clear goals, and also prepare a lot of "adventure sites" (dungeons, bases, things like that) then the improv will flow a lot better.
