What are you even trying to prove by attempting to water down a definition to the point it becomes functionally meaningless? Hurr durr technically I'm roleplaying as mario when I jump on the koopas but it's not a fucking RPG (unless pic related)
>>
>>97890883
I'm not the one calling them roleplaying games, I'm just telling everyone what roleplaying is, and yes, roleplaying has a very broad definition; the act or activity of deciding the character and behavior of someone who isn't oneself.
If somehow you don't feel like a broad term applies to your activity, maybe you should find a more apt term to describe what you're doing. It's bad enough that so many people here try to describe their activity as a game, when they try so hard to stay as far from gameplay or a game structure as possible, and focus on aspects that are independent of games.

I think the Whitworth is kinda cool actually outside of all the warcrimes. The SRM version is fragile at its range but it is still coming in and splatting with 2 6s and its mediums, making for a respectable (if ill advised for heat) alpha.

because any new unit extinguishes 80% of its lifetime sales within the first few months of its release anyway, because by including this unit in the spearhead you can stealthily cut corners since any other unit you include in it costs more for gw to produce because it has more than one sprue, and because by making the spearhead as inimical to repeated purchases as possible (such as including a unit whose models have only one build) you incentivise the customers to buy the other, pricier, products instead of a second spearhead
>>
>>97892076
Yeah but as of now all the old spearheads have kept being "legal" even as the discount boxes have gone away. Leaves DoK in kind of an awkward position, they'd have 1 SH while others like CoS have 4.

It's not too strong in standard meta, but it is often considered the gatekeeper deck in Genesys. As in, it's not always topping tournaments, but if you want to top a tournament you Will be facing it and your deck has to be better than it.

Like this deck won one of the Proto-YCSes, and the main difference between the old points list and the current one's values is in the staples being run.

And I thought that mix the Slifer deck and the 2022 tin was a good idea...

Was thinking of getting back into Yugioh, heard you could use three of a structure deck to make a decent deck to start, are any of these good?

Exosisters does have access to a few unfair things in the form of Shifter, Kali Yuga, and Rainbow Magician. They just aren't very consistent. Shifter is an auto-win vs 95% of decks, but is at 1. Magnifica into Kali Yuga is funny, but it turns your deck into a worse Raidraptors which is already fragile as fuck. Rainbow Magician isn't bad, but requires you to open 7th tachyon + one of Martha, Sakitama, or Pax and for the opponent to have no interaction.

Yeah. A lot of martial progression feels like it wants to come at half the existing level in order to give them enough options to actually keep up with all the options of mages. So many of the abilities could be given out far earlier and the only downside is that you'd need more features to fill out the now empty levels.

>ppl told me it pretty much has the same power scaling with the party quickly reaching that tier 2 powerlevel and with the same annoying spells included that they could have left out, but perhaps I am misinformed.
Well, I have only run one campaign of it, so I only got to see a handful of the magic traditions in use, but looking over the lists I could see how a few of the higher rank spells still bypass that.
I think what ended up making it feel more acceptable is that a spellcaster has to specialize. If you want to transform into a huge animal, you need to have the Transformation tradition, which means you've already been transforming into smaller animals for the previous 8 levels of play.

>>97892083
Probably the more valid option, though I haven't had the time to look into it as extensively. I do remember hearing it really revamped how magic was handled, aside from just going for a more generic setting, which definitely helps.
>>
Idea: I'm running my players through a pre-made campaign and it's one of those campaigns where there's combat encounters almost every single room. Instead of rolling initiative every single time I take a first player token, give it to, say the guy with the highest dexterity and he goes first, then everyone to the right of him goes. After that encounter the token goes to the person on the right and then the next encounter we start with that person going first and then around the table so most of the time the players will go first although occasionally the monsters will go first. This won't account for ambushes or surprise attacks.

If you feel like playing a meme, sure. Go for it. I'll have a full chart of debilitating fantasy STDs made just for you. Dire Crabs!

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

Thread Question: Do you use your world building in games and projects as you go or are you waiting for something such as your world feeling somewhat complete?
If you are waiting, at what point do you think you world will be ready to use?
Alternatively are you just world building for the joy of worldbuilding, with no particular game or project in mind at this time?

I'm no expert in physics or engineering so this could be completely unrealistic, but here's my excuse:
>anti-gravity vehicles emit force of some kind from their underside
>force is deflected off solid objects
>deflected force may bounce back into the underside of the vehicle, pushing it up even more with the same force output (then deflecting off it and potentially repeating)
>closer proximity to the ground = exponentially more deflected force received
>it is therefore more efficient to travel as close to the ground as possible, only going as high as necessary to avoid hitting any bumps or obstacles
>floating vehicles are fitted with lower-output antigrav generators which, while having potential advantages such as size, cost, mass, and/or energy efficiency, are unable to support the vehicle's mass without a certain amount of deflected force (meaning a hard limit on how far they can be off the ground)
so the difference between a floater and a fully flying vehicle would be sort of like the difference between a toyota camry and porsche 911, where the former uses a low-output engine for cheap efficient travel, and the latter uses a higher-output engine for higher performance
alternatively (or additionally), there could be a legal reason for it:
>for one reason or another, many people IRL seem to struggle with just driving in two dimensions in a terrestrial automobile
>driving in three dimensions is going to be significantly more complex than two
>for this reason, people are only allowed to fly if they pass a test proving they're capable of doing so without endangering themselves and others around them
>if they don't/can't get their loicense, then their vehicle is locked in 2D cuckmode
>if flying isn't necessary to get around, then most people might not bother taking the test, with it mostly just done (in civilian context) by enthusiasts or people who need it for their job

Back at it yet again, this time with some elves

This is what im thinking im going to call the "Elven Rangers" a group of elven traditionalists who still believe in the old ways of elven life, before the alliance with the humans and the widespread adoption of human culture among elves.
The rangers fight in small cells, operating out of the woods, allowing them great mobility and stealth capabilities.
While on paper they are independent and allied with noone, in practice they are heavily aligned with Hejmo and are often used by the Hejmonian authorities as a sort of "plausible deniability" group, striking deep into the territory of Hejmo's enemies, maintaining absolute stealth

"2026, I am forgotten..." Edition

>What is Genesys?
Released in November 2017, Genesys is a pen-and-paper generic/universal RPG system and toolkit by Fantasy Flight Games and EDGE Studio, using a refined version of the system presented by their Star Wars RPGs (Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, Force and Destiny). Its central mechanic is the Narrative Dice System, using pools made of specialized dice to create narrative results. The intention is for the system to be a highly flexible narrative system, adaptable to most any conceivable setting and premise.
https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/genesys/
https://edge-studio.net/

>Any news?
The dice are still in stock. Also EDGE released a Twilight Imperium sourcebook for ships.

>Where can I find the books?
Check the Online Extras pastebin below for something useless. The core book is the only mandatory book.
>Do I have to buy the fancy dice to play the game?
Only if you want physical dice to roll. There are plenty of free dice rollers available online, now including the official dice roller app on mobile. Check the Online Extras pastebin for links.

how common is it to have players start with a fully paid off ship? I've found the huge ship mortgage to be the primary motivator to get players to do fun/stupid shit
>>
>>97890566
If you are worried about their movement being limited to interior systems, why not move from a free trader to a far trader?
Alternatively, 200 tons of cargo space allows lots of travel and speculative trading, especially if they are trying to make a mortgage payment. If you like the fat trader, go with that and have a plan to fall back on if the players don't like it.

>>97891608
Closest I've done is a party that had two ships, a fully paid off Type S and a mortgaged free trader. They started a small shipping company after some lucrative speculative mining and gun-running.

Everyone's issues with RPGs are solved when you do sandbox play. You don't need to prepare too much, you don't need to force players along a track to a desired outcome, players will want to explore the dungeons you've prepared, it's not possible to avoid content for very long when they track resources, everybody wins. It's easier to not railroad players.

Or in an uncharitable light, you’re trying to change the topic to discuss some other loser in a case of whataboutism to divert attention away from calling out OP on being a vague posting lower talking out his ass. Either way, take your pills.

And I’m still waiting for those examples of play from OP to prove why sandbox campaigns are so great, btw.

All of those threads are full of people telling him to fuck off or asking about what game he's talking about.
You're also more than welcome to pose the question of examples to him yourself if you think it'd be hypocritical not to.

Just because somebody calls out one thread in particular doesn't suddenly make them the board police responsible for calling out every thread in exitsance.
All you're doing it providing cover for OP by suggesting that nobody can press him for details because there are worse threads out there. Meanwhile the ability to press everyone from details already exists, and you're the one wasting time by pretending a choice has to be made.

Fuck off retard.

Riot edition.

This thread is dedicated to all kinds of solo games, systems, tools, and campaigns.

TQ: How long do your campaigns last? Could be a couple sessions, could be a couple years.

I wouldn't do it myself, as doing shit myself is kind of the point. But your game doesn't have to suit me.

I think I'm going to come up with a Sword and Starship style setting for my next game. I want to play Starforged but I also want magic items and dungeon crawls.

See, I love that mentality, I really do. But I can't draw worth a damn and Dishonored (the game I'm soloing) has such an evocative visual style that I feel as though my own personal scribbles would undermine the experience in a very active manner. Again though, must reiterate, love your mentality.
