And guess what? It's already what Commander is today. It has no focused strategy. It's a mush of ramp and ramp and ramp and cards that are good in free-for-all multiplayer. It plays only a bit of efficient single-target removal, but there's several sweepers so it doesn't have to give a fuck about what the opponent is doing, just ramp and ramp and ramp for big creatures and occasionally reset the board. It has Tooth and Nail for an instant win combo. Its commander is barely an afterthought.Commander is shit. It was always shit, and it will always be shit.

>>97171339>>97171388I'm more questioning how well constructed or exploitable his stat bock is rules as written or I've missed some aspect of his capabilities. He and Zariel are both in Descent Into Avernus at CR 24 and 26 and the difference in their power and the ability of a well-equipped party to threaten them seems massive.

>>97169925It works. Try it. Close one eye while walking around in the light and as soon as you step into a dark room switch. You’ll have ready night vision in the formerly closed eye and the other will get there in a few seconds.Sort of useful in very niche situations. But ultimately you’d just take the patch off because it’s pointless going from dark to light. Also it can seriously fuck with your balance switching back and forth. I gave myself some temporary vertigo doing that one Halloween and just about threw up after wearing it for 2 hours then taking it off in an emergency.
>>97169973Correct.Every ability you “give” the player implies numerous actions forbidden. 3.5 did well enough by handing out so many feats that you could pretty much turn a fighter or rogue into any competent non-magic skillset in just a few levels while still managing the balance. But it’s hours of flipping through pages that could have been an easy “yeah, that makes sense, do that.”

>>97163068explain or fake
>>97166370It's real. It's a game of reading your opponent, with a bit of resource management, playing over ~3 sessions. The torturer has a hidden set of approaches rated from 1-6, and each round they use one on the victim who tries to resist by spending from their finite effort pool. They get some xp for managing to resist, but any effort spent is lost for the rest of the session, so overspending is like when they they flinch and you're like "but I haven't even started yet". On the other hand if you beat their effort it only increases that approach's effectiveness, permanently adding the difference to it or future sessions. You can instill a terror of needles that only gets worse every time you stick em.It's rigged, of course. The victim can't win, but their goal is only to survive as long as possible. They can buy abilities with XP (see pic), but they can only prolong the ordeal. Torturer abilities get selected at the start of the game, as they're much more powerful and change the strategies up with stuff like combining approaches, denying xp, or duplicating approaches with maxxed-out effectiveness. Why would I lie about something like that, for bagging rights? Lol
Lamias. Also I accidentally forced regulations on immortal/long living citizens in my DMs setting. Not because of wars or boomers not going away since they cant die, but because my character after the campaign got immortality from a wish reward and proceeded to creampie his waifu for centuries who was immortal too. It was fucking up lineage and succession laws especially when your great×4 grandfather had another child.

In fantasy settings, this means wizards commonly fuck their chimera, golems, summons, and other magical servants to sustain them. In sci-fi settings, there are nuclear-powered maid bots that, in a pinch, can substitute radioactive mutant cum for power cells.

https://archive.org/details/b.-a.-s.-e.-d/mode/2upI'm not sure if this is actually an RPG or a modern warfare handbook.I found this on the internet archive, and while I do not believe in the author's Templist religion (essentially syncretic Indo-European paganism) which is used as a framework for the game, many of the facts in it are useful. It reminds me a lot of F.A.T.A.L., since it has a very clear vision (an RPG which is just real life in a certain setting which may have some speculative elements), but it is more like Braunstein in design, and has very few mandatory dice rolls, with the implication that the game master finds the most realistic way to determine the result of an action.
>>97169937>its just lists of facts, which is cool I guess, but I see no point. No one can actually play this and keep the mental load to do anything remotely fun it inFrom the introduction, I inferred that players aren't meant to know most of these facts, but based on their background or intelligence they can be given them. Based on both that inference as well as the fact that the game tells you to downplay the "right-wing undertones" of the game, I don't think the players are meant to have their own rulebooks. I like procedural simulationism, but B.A.S.E.D. hates it, and one of the easiest ways to get players to think outside of procedure is to not tell them what the procedures are.
>>97163548Outside of objective facts this is some absolute garbage, it's the combination of RAHOWA and FATAL holy shit.
>>97169937From what I understand, the game doesn't really have a system. The players tell the GM what their characters do, and the GM tells them what happens, based on the facts in the book, or based on whatever he feels would realistically happen.
>>97171438This is how an actual narrativist RPG should be: A book of objective guidelines of what does or doesn't occur in the setting along with some GM advice, rather than what narrativist games currently are, which are extremely simple versions of gamist games that give players reality warping/fiction-manipulating powers for reasons that do not make sense in-world.Also, I was thinking about non-minecraft blockgames recently, and I realized that for me, a sufficiently simulationist fantasy RPG video game (a procedural one, not one like B.A.S.E.D.) would also necessarily satisfy my requirements for being balanced and having an interesting and interactive world, so at least from my perspective, once you go far enough into simulationism you get the benefits of the other 2 points of the GNS triangle.

I have the task of setting up a game for my wife and daughter, as basically my first foray into DMing. I've been considering putting them into my work-in-progress homebrew setting, but I don't really feel confident I can run it kid friendly. So my next idea was to just steal the WoW classic human quest chain as my campaign setting because I know the setting quite well. The general beats being:>Fight the kobolds for control of the mines>Fight the gnolls who raid the southwest >Find clues about the defias brotherhood supporting the gnolls>Fight the defias brotherhood in the deadmines>Uncover the noble who supports the defias from within stormwind>The missing diplomat chain starts. >Sent to Duskwood to investigate the defias there>Optionally fight some undead and Morbent Fel>Sent to Theramore, find the place where the missing diplomat was imprisoned but he apparently is no longer there. Find information about the orcs in Redridge having some role in it.>Fight the orcs at Redridge, leading to entering the burning steppes and finding the quest hook to the Jailbreak line.>Do the jailbreak line, discover the true identity of Katrana Prestor and throw her out of Stormwind>Fight Onyxia in her home and possibly breadcrumb to Nefarian in Blackwing lair.Comment too long. >>97171865what age are we talking about with the daughter here? And how general fantasy savy is she and her mother? You mentioned you wanted it to be kid friendly. At the end of the day you can say that the defias might have started with good intentions but went way too far. Maybe even throw them a remorseful Defias who wants to get out.Something along the line of "Van Cleef promised us payment and a noble cause, yet we are little better than bandits, harassing farmers just as poor as we are. This is wrong. I didnt wanted any of this."From there, you can ajust how simplistic and "child friendly", or mature and muddied you want to go.
