It just feels like spellcasters get so much more DPS than martials.
Even when putting a lot of effort into a max damage build with +5 STR, a maul and making use of the Great Weapon Master talent against low AC enemies, it just feels like you are doing no damage. Meanwhile, spellcasters get bullshit like 32(8d8) damage Blight or fucking 24(8d6) fireballs against MULTIPLE targets. Not to mention all the bullshit counters like Hellish Rebuke with 10(2d10) damage as a reaction.
To add insult to injury, I can only hit a single enemy at a time, which is a maximum of 3-4 enemies with one attack each, as if a strong warrior couldn't hit 3 Kobolds or zombies in one swing and most powerful bosses, where single target damage actually matters and AOEs are irrelevant, have the annoying tendency to resist physical damage or, in a few very ugly cases, even outright ignore it.
Doesn't help that stuff like Alchemist's Fire only does a pitiful 1d4 damage and costs fucking 50G a pop or a hunting trap does 1d4 damage and has a DC 13 throw to avoid or escape and ball bearings are an absolute meme with a DC 10 saving throw, so trying to be tactical and work around your weaknesses using gadgets is useless.

Was this game just designed by fucking sadists? Did the devs of the game just fucking hate me personally? It almost feels like a troll/meme game.
Are the older editions better? Does just 5e suck? Or are Fallout, Pathfinder or Gurps just better games than D&D if you like not having a miserable time?

I have no idea how you can think DnD martials are fun to play at all. Battlemaster fighter has something going for them, I'll concede that; but literally every other pure martial is so limited in what you can do and what's actually a viable option you'd fall asleep at the table.

5e is just shit man. Just play 3.0 or 3.5. Follow a guide as a newbie. Look at the class tiers. Tier 4 is good at combat and that's about it. Tier 5 is shit, tier 3 is versatile, 2 is full casters who can't easily swap their spells. 1 is full casters who can swap their spells.

Or you can play AD&D2e for the martial focused edition.

Eclipse is alright for point buy. Its not very well organized though, IMO.

If you're not afraid to branch out of d20 a bit - Dungeon Fantasy RPG is fun and D&D adjacent.

Pendragon is a fun King Arthur game. You really want to play it with the grand campaign going on in the background though.

Personally I'd recommend ACKS.

I like black coffee, I like the skin on pudding, and I like D&D in most forms. (Except 4e)
I could go into a long rant, but you don't need that opinion repeated over and over.

>FUCK I forgot to LINK IT FUCKING KILL ME
...At this point, I feel like you should seriously consider getting an add-on like 4chanX if you haven't already. (Among other things) it makes it so that you open up a reply box by clicking on a post's number, which then automatically puts the link to that post in for you. Maybe it'd help you form a habit where you stop doing that.
>>
>>96801048
I thought 4chan just did that by default? In any case it's just that I always forget in the moment. It's like missing an item from the shopping list, even if you wrote it down.
>>
Trying to design, and failing miserably, to design button inputs for my character if he were in a fighting game because my autism demands it before I update. I think making him as if he were in a fighting game and designing actual movesets for him will make him cooler. Fuck you, Itsuki, why did I become so invested in writing you?
>>
>>96801158
Work backwards from the more general moves. Do supers, then the simple mechanics, THEN do every input. Chisel away at the stone. S'what I always do, that way if I get too tired with it I can quit at a stage that was easy enough to do and still looks good.
>>
>>96801122
4chan lets you click on numbers to generate links, but that's not quite what I was getting at. With the extension, clicking on the numbers is a quick and easy way to start a reply.because it opens a pop-up box to type in, and that's the important part.
It might train you to start replies with that function because it's convenient, which could then cause you to link more consistently because it'd be part of how you start a reply instead a lost item in a checklist of things you want to add to the reply after you've started.

Or if it's already letting you do that, then I can only assume you already have an extension of some kind and forgot you had it.

Itt we help each other find a system that fits given setting.

I'm looking for something fitting Blue Archive lore. Expectation:
>combat-focused
>handles gunfights well
>has cover system
>hitzones unwelcome
>crits should do extra damage, but no additional effects
>can handle vehicles, combat robots, artillery
>can handle big bosses
>allows for some gun autism
>no magic

NTA, but some people prefer the older sheet; the other one makes me sad.

>>96497514
How fast or layered do you want combat? What is your preferred level of complexity, and is there anything other than the elemental interplay you want to include in play?

>>96537587
Check out Maximum Apocalypse by Rock Manor Games. You might also look at Mutant Year Zero.
Vincent Baker is getting ready to write a new version of Apocalypse World, too.

>>96754090
TY, Awesome Anon! I'm going to try to address these in another post!
>>
>>96768749
NTA, and I dunno if GURPS is the best system for it. I mean, yes, GURPS can do literally anything. But it takes varying levels of effort to collect and curate all the optional rules, books, and modules you need to get what precisely you want, depending on how niche it is what you want.
Anyways, there was a pyramid article (from Pyramid #3-97: Strange Powers) dedicated to statting out examples of various anthropomorphized military paraphernalia, which still feels surreal to this day.
So yes, shipgirls, strike witches, and t-dolls are all doable.
>>
>>96754090
OK! Going to address these in order. Apologies in advance if my answers don't suit your needs. Hopefully, other anons will chime in with some great suggestions!

Some questions I may ask repeatedly to help us help you: What is your preferred level of complexity (lower and upper end)? What elements of the IP would you most like to focus on, or what three elements are unique that make the IP feel distinct?

>>96564361
The simplest game that might suit your needs is Idyll, Romantic Fantasy. It's a 1PG ruleset inspired by the writings of Tamora Pierce and Tanith Lee. It might be too light.

The next suggestion I have is Charm by Strange Machine Games. It uses the Charm26 system: you roll a d20 and a d6, referred to as the Charm die. Players can add the Charm die if they spend an ability point, so the game lets players really choose when to push themselves into success. Dead-simple system, comes with several default settings, and is pretty flexible.

Another general suggestion is OVA. Uses small d6 diepools to accomplish tasks; you start with 2 dice for all tasks and add more based on your traits. It is billed as an anime game, but I have seen it used as a great generic system. Easy character generation, easy to understand, runs smoothly at the table.

More crunchy and more focused is the Blue Rose romantic fantasy game by Green Ronin, based on the AGE systems used in Fantasy AGE, Modern AGE, and Dragon AGE. While it is focused on romance, it may be too limited for your players' imaginations.

You could "turn kits around in a month" if your task was to take a company with GW's capacity from an improbable static posture to producing a single kit.

You cannot turn kits around in a month when they're part of a massive company that's working on 100 kits simultaneously that are slotted into production and release order for the next five years with the potential involvement of overseas partners for printing, packaging materials etc.

You have a very jobless opinion. Could they hypothetically intrude on their rigorously planned release order to make arbitrary changes? Sure. Do they? Fuck no, not unless something has gone very wrong. We actually just saw a rare example of this with them recalling a Necromunda product (and we will see how long it takes to get the replacements produced and what changes about the product/packaging).

Magic is one-sided and the capital-w wizard won't necessarily see himself as a capital-w wizard, being so transcendent. Their bar for magic is likely higher, completely different. They may go out of their way to don the pointy hat, or act the part of the sage, but not always. Magic is an air, or aura, and the pointy hat is at times placed on the head by another, not the self.

An interesting idea imo is to treat magic or being able to use magic as some sort of divine fire passed on like a torch to the uninitiated that changes the person from being made of clay to fire.
You have to be initiated into 'magic' by a deity/spirit/adept, or by being born into a mage family. I think being born into a mage family would automatically make you able to use magic or spells as a birthright, but you'd still need training like everyone else. This both keeps the mage population limited, but also gives leeway for mobility and fills the ambitious normalfags with hope.

Palladium Games and Rifts General! /PGaRG/

The world is a broken, post-apocalyptic wasteland destroyed by the eruption of inter-dimensional portals, rifts in the fabric of space-time and ley lines which crisscross the world. Demon & alien invaders have poured out of the rifts to destroy human civilization and claim the Earth. Now the wasteland has had 300 years to partially recover, and civilization has returned to the world; but not just human civilization: alien empires, monster kingdoms, lost time travellers, lands of mutants, demonic overlords and wizards have arisen from the ashes, all trying to rebuild the world in their own image!

RIFTS! The science fantasy world of post-apoc cyborgs, wizards, dragons, ninjas, giant mecha, super-nazis, robot ninjas, vampires, underwater kingdoms, remnant human supertech civilizations and everything you can imagine all rolled into one setting where interdimensional RIFTS have pierced Earth's fabric and turned it into a playground for aliens and monsters!

Plus other Palladium Games about superheroes, zombies, classic fantasy, supernaturals investigation and more.

Talk about:

>Heroes Unlimited
>Palladium Fantasy

Every players wants to look cool and be a unique special snowflake. It's half the reason we roleplay games. This has been true for decades and isn't a recent thing but the increase in games that allow more weird options (specifically D&D, which is like 90% of the market) is what has driven the explosion of half-tiefling/half-dragon/half-elven mary sues. Gygax warned about this back in 1979, so it's old news.
>>
>>96797362
Half lines and dwarves do not get enough penalties to deincentivise players. Palladium players go the other way and want to be super massive giants.
>>
>>96773175
I was thinking about the sewers in splicers. In the campaign I had running I had required land nav rolls because it was a maze that led everywhere with lots of flooded chambers and cisterns. Eventually I had a old guy with agoroohobia act as a guide NPC for the party since we figured that navigating by stars or sense of direction does not work in underground tubes.

For that extent I also though of a slug warming designed to travel through the tubes quickly, feeding off the crude in the pipes.

I have been interested in oozes/slimes as of late. They appear as a monster type in D&D, Path/Starfinder, 13th Age, Draw Steel (in the starter adventure and Patreon bonus content), and Daggerheart, among other games.

Exotic and high-level ooze monsters include living spells in D&D; teratomorphs in D&D 3.0; astral renders in D&D 4e; blobs of annihilation in D&D 5e; mezlans, immortal ichors, and blights in Pathfinder; riftcreepers and oblivions in Pathfinder 1e; living apocalypses and cerebrexes in Starfinder 1e; and gray goos and plasma oozes in Path/Starfinder 1e. Shoggoths could count as oozes, and they appear as such in Pathfinder 1e.

Named ooze antagonists include Juiblex, Ghaunadaur, and Turaglas in D&D; the daelkyr Kyrzin in Eberron; the Voidharrow in D&D 4e; and Vorgozen and the suspiciously named Jubilex in Pathfinder 1e.

There are ooze-themed PC options every now and then, such as the oozemaster and slime lord prestige classes in D&D 3.X, the ooze master theme in D&D 4e, the plasmoid species in D&D 5e, the alchemist (oozemaster) and shifter (oozemorph) archetypes in Pathfinder 1e, the Oozemorph archetype in Pathfinder 2e, and the entu colony and selamid races in Starfinder 1e. I observed that an ooze race was popular in third-party Pathfinder 1e material, such as Alluria Publishing's squole and Dreamscarred Press's atstreidi and coreid; I once played alongside someone playing a coreid psionicist at 17th level.

The only dedicated ooze-themed adventure I know of is The Slithering in Pathfinder 2e. I believe it was poorly received, as its mechanics were questionable and frustrating: particularly the focus on oozes and incorporeals, whose precision damage immunity is unfun for several classes.

While it is common to see demons, devils, dragons, or undead as campaign-wide enemies, it is much rarer to see oozes in such a role. Perhaps intelligent oozes could be portrayed similarly to the Klyntar?

What are your favorite portrayals of oozes in tabletop RPGs?

Why?
>>
>>96791129
I'd say the other way around. Slimes tend to be pretty far from intellectuals, even a smarter variety probably aren't up to arcane atudies or social engineering. It depends on how you stat them of course, but most of the takes I've seen make them resiliant and malleable, with an even split between slithery and agile or goopy and strong, but mental stats are quite rarely their forte. Sime elemental variety may have the connection to matching magical energies, but mostly they seem to be suited to frontline or acouting duties.
>>
>>96791129
Most, I would think. It's a matter of coming up with the "how".
>>96770916 anon has his druid slime.
Magic classes work with anyone who can do magic and is smart enough for it.
Fighter slime is obviously possible. Clerics and paladins fall between the previous two.
Rogue? Moving around as a sapient puddle, flowing through keyholes, possibly dissolving the locks from the inside.
Ranger is easy. Shapeshifting to use bows, or forming "slime cannons" to throw slime at people, or shoot solid slime projectiles.
If anything, something like a bard would be tricky, since you need more than just shapeshifting.
You'd need mimicry to pass as human, or really high charisma to offset being a human-shaped slime.

Incidentally, would charisma work as a ghetto "humanity" indicator for a slime? As in, how good a job it's doing at looking human.
I.e. low-CHA slime either can't maintain a human shape, looking "runny", constantly melting and regaining form.
Or maybe it simply does it "wrong", giving everyone mad heeby-jeebies with the uncanny valley effect.

I guess a combination of medical skill as a stand-in for knowledge of anatomy, some INT, and generous helping of CHA should cover the "looking human" aspect.

Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>
>>96788752
How would you tell that they were mimics before it was too late?
>>
>>96797709
You gotta beat their Disguise check. Given it's +30 a mimic can just Take 10, or even Take 20 given it would have time to settle into a spot alone, and have a DC 40 or 50 to beat. Perception is an important skill, but most PCs aren't beating that check until fairly late into the game. There's probably some meme build for it, but that's the only way.

If a paladin sells his soul to Hell to save his friends, and falls, but is repentant and wants to redeem himself, is it ever possible for him to become a paladin again through the sheer effort and good? Or is it over forever because he already sold his soul and that's a black mark on him that can never be washed away?

>>96787056
>sacrifices his own purity to do an act of good
>redeems himself so that he can regain his purity and the powers that make him better at doing good
>goes to kick the shit out of whatever tried to corrupt him
Yes he can become a paladin again, yes it's peak fiction, no you shouldn't let the vague lore/shitty mechanics of some kitchen sink setting tell you otherwise.
>>
>>96787056
I assume that depends on the 'how' of selling your soul to save your friends.
IIRC in D&D 3.5 there was a hell-focused splatbook that mentioned that selling your soul under duress (for example, to save you or your family/friends from torment) was malpractice and that you easily could get a lawyer devil in hell to fuck over the guy you sold your soul to.
So if it's 'you gave your soul to some pit fiend so he'd stop putting hot pokers in the asses of your friends', that paladin could very much get out of trouble. If it's 'you gave your soul to some pit fiend so he'd lend you his help to get your friends out of trouble', it's probably going to require a bit more effort.
>>
>>96787056
1.sells his soul to Hell; no
2. to save his friends; he fights to the death if need be
3. selling his soul to save his friends is self sacrifice, there is nothing to repent from "repentant and wants to redeem himself"
4. This is like the end from the Constantine film where he is saved due to a related thing.
5. "a paladin again through the sheer effort and good" he never fell, his self sacrificial act makes him a very high deva automatically, hell gets nothing but a fuck off
6. "sold his soul and that's a black mark on him that can never be washed away" see above

Sure. They're definitely on the lower end these days since other archetypes can swarm the field better and are less prone to bricking, but VW can fundamentally just work with a lot of other stuff. I took a particular liking to Tenpai Virtual World-- It's not just Tenpai's OTK potential, but that both of their kits genuinely enhance oneanother. Sangen Summoning is good for setup and putting Qinglong in your GY, Nyannyan can enable Level 9 synchro shenanigans during the BP, Chundra enables you to utilize Level 7 and 10 synchros within VW's kit, and in a pinch you can use Tenpai monsters to go into Jaja for a Zeus line.

You might be better off mixing them with modern PUNK, Gold Pride, or maybe a Psychic pile, though.

You are a disgusting insufferable cunt. Fuck you and your ilk. You lost and will continue to lose as long as you push this extremist child raping ideology.

What's the issue? Beholders are Aberrations, rather than Outsiders, so they don't have that restriction on changing alignments due to literally being made of good or evil.

Even then you have multiple ways to magically change alignments, like the helm of Opposite alignment, or the deck of many things.

Suppose you saw the beholder and other characters in that image in an different artwork with the same artstyle, but exploring a dungeon instead?
would you be offended by that?

rocks is pretty cheap and quite good
the only expensive card is pyramidimon and you can easily run 4 magnetic/2 pyramidi (I would run never more than 3 anyway) or run a budget built with the newer pyramidi.
magnetic is quite reasonably priced ($5?) and the rest of the deck is fairly cheap (if you put in some trainings/boosts and don't already have it might be a bit pricier, most builds don't use them, and if you already have scrambles from the adventure decks there aren't many staples in it) and is fairly strong deck.
most of the liberator decks are fairly accessible but don't always have the best performance.

Bagra Army has started doing well lately and it's cheap as hell.

I honestly wish I could test this rn on DCGO, but they haven't added Release last time I checked.
Thoughts on the ratios, familia?

How much is this deck?

What do you do to subtly put stress on the PCs? I don't just mean making the stakes higher, but I mean a gradual ratcheting up of personal and game tension:
>Time-limited objectives where long rests aren't available
>Enemies who get stronger over time
>Mutually-exclusive treasures i.e. "Either the bad guy gets this or you push really hard and get this."
>PCs being pushed to use their specialty, forcing players into the spotlight.
On a more personal level, things I like to use are:
>Unnerfed male elves who display their competence.
>'Harsh' attractive female NPCs who have really high standards and encourage competition
>Public speaking
>Duels
>Ample chances to fuck up and a denouncement for that
>Lots of 'the lesser of two evils' choices.
I really want their blood pressure to rise by the end of the session, basically.

Not too many come to mind that haven't been stated already, but I do have a few.

Fatigue. Whether by extending the session's length or by a series of exhaustive creativity and problem solving, existing stress not only compounds but multiplies when the players are unable to vent or deflate it.

Class and majesty norms. Local laws and customs were mentioned, but I think people underestimate how much tension and stress can be built up by prepping players directly preceding in meetings with nobility, high-royalty, or other positions of influence. Etiquette is lame and not to be overused, but having a steward NPC rush to explain what titles to use and what gesticulations are expected and then plopping the PC in front of someone of importance such that they not only have to juggle their objectives but must articulate and interact within strict and sudden bounds of convention can really ramp up tension if utilized well.

Obligation. Giving the players a general party-goal and then having one or more of the PC's receive word from an ally or relative that help is required, forcing them to either delay their important mission or fall through on their personal duties can, again, make a tense situation more stressful. Generally best if a solution or compromise exists so that it doesn't feel like a punishment, but it can work.

Theft. Not so much petty theft, though that has its place and can be done similarly, any assets or estates a player or party owns or is invested in being threatened with destruction or theft will, if it doesn't cause a pattern of miserly or paranoid behavior, split attention in a way that can add tension and guide direction.

In retrospect, I think I primarily create tension through overwhelming players with conflicting and independent sources of threat, allowing smaller stressors to multiply in value rather than independent stressors of higher frequency. It tends to help party cohesion as it forces PCs cover for each other to diffuse the tension.

Not enough people track this. It's the equivalent of video game characters never sleeping.
>Class and Majesty
I'm going to do more of this now that I think of it.
>Obligation
Smart way to stretch out a campaign.
>Theft
Players are too reliant on magic items anyway. I add durability to most items too, even if they're magic.

I actually think marinewank, to a certain extent, is completely reasonable. They're supposed to be near the best of the best of what humanity can create, fighting for centuries, with a creation process that has an ultra low survival rate and requires a fuckzillion man hours of effort and mountains of resources, they're so rare relative to the size of the setting some places regard them as myths, a single company is supposed to be enough to pacify a whole fucking planet, etc.
Going through the insane amount of effort it takes to create, arm, and deploy a space marine just for them to regularly get bodied by a random nob or a pack of cultists with looted bolters is too retarded and unbelievable even for warhammer.
That being said I still think they get way too much attention over the other factions, which is something I'm sure we can all agree on.

They should, after some resistance, still get bodied by those things when they engage them in a stand-up fair fight.

They don't pacify planets by doing a grinding gigathermopolae against 50 million soldiers. They accomplish it through precision strikes and intel. That's the only way to make it make sense. Unfortunately the books rarely do the work to depict that, and just show Marines doing slugfests in town squares or whatever.

It was actually 1,000 marines but still fucking ridiculous.
