Is Chaos wanking a problem in Warhammer?
59 replies and 1 image omitted. Click here to view.

>>97176099
>Yeah it loses some of that fate of everything gravitas
There was never anything like that in Storm of Chaos.
Middenheim is not even the most important city in the Empire. If Chaos had won Storm of Chaos then nothing would really have changed fundamentally.
The set up narrative was fine. A massive horde is coming barrelling down out of the north, you can't stop them, but you can slow them down and fuck them up.
The big mistakes were more to do with actually running the campaign, like leaving battlegrounds open for too long, and that ending which was just a bit shit.
>>
>>97174255
>Warhammer crystallized is supposed to be a picture of Archaon barreling down towards victory,
Could they at least write it better? Perhaps not having multiple major characters die offscreen (like most of the Dwarves and Brettonians), or having the villians not just throw out some of their major flaws/ features dissapear so they can become a threat (the skaven just forgetting their backstabbing)
>>
>>97182169
Didn't the Great Horned Rat straight-up tell them that the backstabbing had gotten out of control, and they needed to shape the fuck up to have any hope of winning? At any rate, GHR still managed to ascend to major Chaos god status, and though the skaven had to beat feet into the Warp, they've since multiplied into the trillions - and still job to every other faction in existence.
>>
>>97182542
>and still job to every other faction in existence
Except Nagash, which will never not be hilarious.
>>
>>97174178
this never happened. My setting is stuck in the aftermath of Middenheim.

Mother, Scarlet, forgive me. I failed you both.

I woke up in Assoluta's arms, she said I slept like an angel through the day, and called me her overgrown baby. Her sleep was much lighter. I wanted to reach out to Blue Fairy but I heard her wailing, so I gave up.

>>97188695
A former blood doll of the Sabbat knows more about kindred thant their average fledgling, it's not your typical can of Spam.
In hindsight it was obvious: telling her Mother would embrace her was the easiest way to keep her here, both as a renewable food source and to uphold the Masquerade.

Ta-dah! What manner of self-respecting soap opera wouldn't have dead characters returning from the grave?

For a Toreador, I'm a woman of my word you know? I honoured my promise, Scarlet was embraced in the Big Apple, as per our agreement with the NY Prince.

Since we were here tonight, I also, well, "picked on someone my own size" with the help of Mercury Lamp's little army of dolls.
>>97189716
When Scarlet sees you again, she expects an apology "in the manner of the Japanese people" from you, to paraphrase her words, and she wants you to buy her cigarettes of the usual brand, plus a new lighter and "a suitable cigarette holder", since she wishes to use one from now on.

Yeah the transition from university to the professional world is brutal when it comes to dating. Try attending social events with 50% girls or more, but which you still enjoy doing. Like dance class, for example. That's the best way to meet new people organically, when you have a job. That, or traveling and staying in youth hostels.

>Carcassonne junior (starting to become top easy, might go for base game Carcassonne soon).

Im curious how you simplified it. I myself am working out how to do this and so far I've mostly come up with the idea that I just remove classes entirely, and give out items, spells and abilities through the story rather than through levelling up.
That way they begin with just humans and the complexity stacks slowly and with the use of little cards that describe the new ability and stuff rather than having to deal with the complexity of race and class features from the get-go. Let alone choosing spells to learn/prepare. I'm also hoping it leans more into the RP and utility side of the game, using skills and creative play to solve problems rather than predefined classes.

How is CRP worse than the current edition? For me CRP has a huge advantage of not changing anymore which means you can learn to play around the flaws rather than go through the never-ending shit-flood of DLCs and edition-change nightmare cycle every 2 years.

3 FFA games are almost never fun, its either a an early team-up and 2v1 or two gangs duking it out till death (due to one of the players having a beef with another even pre-game, like campaign grudges) while the third gang enjoys the show while eating popcorn and wipes out the remaining survivors in the end.

>>97176704
This probably results in 1v1 while the gang at the bottom wins due to being slightly further to attack. But this is probably the best you can do with 3 FFA deployment.

I straight out think that a fun 3 FFA scenario is impossible, unless all three players actively try to keep attacking each other equally.

Simplest option? Just make 'Lewd' a type of damage dealt by unarmed 'attacks' and grappling.. AC goes down with less armor, so it's easier to hit with an unarmed 'attack' when the target is unclothed. Make Charisma checks to seduce characters using the rules for changing NPC attitudes.
Constitution saves to become pregnant, if you're into that.
Advantage/disadvantage on Lewd attacks involving kinks or turn-offs.

Basically, you don't really need to add new rules, just recontextualize the ones that are already there.

>What is Shadow of the Demon Lord?
An awsome game. It's creator designed it with the goal to have fun with his friends at the table while drinking beer. The ruleset he came up with is really easy to learn and well-balanced to meet a broad spectrum of player's/GM's preferences. The lore of the game setting is grimdark af and only really makes sense if you read trough a ton of splatbooks.

>Lots of people complain that the game world's lore is shit.
Because it is. People rightfully rag on Rob for his blatant magic realm scat fetish, but what bothers me equally that goes unmentioned is his awful vocabulary for worldbuilding in general. It takes away any and all mystery and intrigue from his setting(s). Examples include:
>genies who made everything
Which immediately brings to mind Arabian cartoon parodies.
>the weird wizard xD
Rick & Morty-type D&D crossover bullshit.
And for worldbuilding history-
>ogres believe they were quote "shat out of the anus of a giant ogre"
>dwarf city is named bulger because its founder built a statue of himself with a bulging penis

Unironically he should've been more poetic or flowery. Use a different word besides fucking genie. Call the wizard something else besides weird. Phrase the ogre creation myth in a more roundabout way. Everything just feels so surface-level, generic, basic, and vulgar. It's hard to explain it but you'll start picking up on it, and something about it to me absolutely kills everything he writes. There's no air of mystery, it's just either simplistic, blunt, tee hee potty mouth vulgar, or (most often) all three.

If that still doesn't make sense, look at it this way
>In the primordial darkness, a great crawling beast devoured all in its wake, and within the bowels of that voracious monstrosity was birthed the race known as Ogres.

As a rule of thumb, for the majority the DM don't, players put themselves in that position. Best you can argue is that some DM aren't good enough in telegraphing the risk or are simply prick that want to gotcha the player.

Also "falling" should be something profound and carrying weight for the character not the equivalent of a single misstep that fucks you up entirely in one go. If you make the paladin fall for one single error, like killing a surrendered enemy without any notion of his motives, that is likely to cheapen the archetype in my opinion. In a case like that i would describe the event in motion adding lots of weight to it, like the paladin meeting the eyes of the person before the strike connecting, feeling his arm heavy like iron and his vision clouding for a moment... and then describing the sensation of loneliness as if the grip on his power was lost for a split second that seemed endless. Then i would move to the player and trace an "X" on his character sheet saying "this mark is a stain in your character resolve, a perpetual dent in his armor that cannot be fixed. You don't know how many he can take before he'll have to pay the ultimate price". So something more like 3 strikes, out.
>>
>>97180635
They do?
I've been DM (and occasional player) since 1982 and haven't observed or done it myself.
>>
>>97181260
It actually works pretty well for character design.

>Lighter, less saturated, bright tones give the impression of purity.
>Armour being bright mirror silver is a thing commonly associated with moral purity and righteousness.
>Bright white/silver armour is peak for Paladins.

>But you also want to suggest depth and complexity in a character.
>Warmer, rich, dark tones suggest this. Golds, browns, and deep tones.
>This is also good for contrasting light tones.

>Typically less skin is shown than armour, so having dark skin acts as a good secondary contrast.
>Additionally, it implies internal complexity to the character's nature, but the armour reflects their outward purity in their choices and behaviors.
>The Paladin is complex and nuanced, but they through their will, dress themselves in, and exemplify righteousness and purity.
>This can be hinted at in the design of the appearance.
>>
>>97189905

Wealth should be a stat like charisma or strength. Calculating every penny is a tedious chore.
You are also forced to share gold evenly when it's exp, and if a character died, their replacement will have more balancing issues if the rest of the party is now excessively rich in comparison, or all new party members are part of the millionaire club.

Thread #01 Winter Wonderland.

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97089644

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.

>Had to deal with the equipment shortages leading to makeshift stopgaps, and the overloading of the pre-existing infrastructure leading to more deaths.
>Which apparently 'don't count nuh uhh' because they didn't die to covid in the 'correct' way.
>Had to have the polite but firm 'covid is real' debate with too many fat retards who (genuinely and unironically) thought that because; the vaccine made their arm hurt, and that when they got it, they just had a 'bad' flu, that it was all a big hoax made by lizard people to see if humans could be controlled. Or that, because their 76 year old grandad had the vax, and then had some medical episode six months later, that the vax had done something to him.

Pic very much related. Unironic covid denying is phenomenal faggotry, and typically is an indicator the player will think it's safe to start schitzo /pol/fagging.

>maximum focus on battles and fighting in small teams
>fighting is about reducing each other's invisible HP pools
>when characters get downed they can just get up and go back to fighting
>every character is a collection of magic powers, whole combat and player expression is about taking turns using their list of cool moves

for how shitty DnD is at replicating fantasy adventures, is it secretly a perfect system to run Battle Shonen type stories?

Are there any good Homebrews that do that? Have you ever tried it?

you can't recreate a single character from JJK in dnd. so how is it the best system for battleshonen?
i'd say point spend systems are probably better. stuff like nobilis, glitch and chuubo's

>characters survive numerous fatal hits
If by surviving you mean using resurrection like spells sure, but without them no, you don't survive a fatal hit
>b-but 0HPs!
that isn't fatal
>b-but crit!
isn't fatal either, you just think being reduced to 0HPs means you got 10 spears going through you, missing both arms, and having a gaping hole on your chest the size of a cannon ball, that's not it boss

>"epic" shit happens every turn for every class
A human monk of level 20 can't even fathom to run as fast as Usain Bolt

The rest it isn't a necessary and sufficient condition of shonen
