>>97196430>>97196449I mean, my first question was "are they loyal," because they look like Chaos cultists. But instead of answering that you vaguely gestured to them being... homeless? In your imagination are those literally pieces of Imperial Guard equipment that found their way onto the black market? Or are they supposed to be generic substitutes? If generic, they wouldn't have aquilas. None of the house gangs have aquilas. The Hive Scum don't have aquilas. GSC models don't have aquilas. Kal Jericho doesn't have aquilas. Civilian/private weapon manufacturers do not use the aquila as decoration, but whether that is down to custom or an actual part of the lex I don't know.If they ARE stolen Imperial Guard pieces then there's still a good reason to take that stuff off (much like you might file identifying details/numbers off of weapons stolen from state militaries before mongering them). But there are also multiple sources that have shown Guardsmen pilfering/retaining their weapons after service, so heirloom versions with the decorations intact could still be a thing, in smaller numbers. The bottom line is that having them on the weapons is a choice that needs more explanation than having them off the weapons. If your headcanon is that they're devout homeless fellows it will suffice.

Sup /tg/, wanna talk about Slavic, Steppe, and Siberian myth in TTRPGs. There's so much cool shit, from Cornflower Wraith to Bolotnik to the Hungry Ghosts. But it feels like this stuff is barely explored. What are some good resources as reading for my setting?
>>97184950>The people who treat it as exotic stuff meanwhile have nothing to draw from, unless they can read Cyrillic.Cyrillic is not at all hard to read if you already know Latin (and vice versa). Both are derivatives of Greek, and neither have changed very much. Biggest hurdle is learning Russian or any other Slavic language if your mother's tongue is English, because it is substantially different.
/v/ related but play this game, Black Book is an amazing in depth dive on Komi-Perm folklore and myth. You play as a witch and its very hands on with the supernatural but it littered with information on Permian folklore made by people from there and it doesn't go into typical Russian folklore stereotypes. Indeed I am also fascinated by Siberia and its very hard to find someone doing justice to it. There is an aspect unfortunately that both due imperial Russia doing obvious colonization methods and urbanization and overwriting it with orthodox Christianity and then the Soviets being hostile to folkloric traditional practices, has erased a lot. It is redundant to say it, but Permians, Chuds, Komi, Nenets and other Uralic peoples are NOT ethnic Russians, they have their own language, they had their own religion and completely different pattern and way of life compared to the sedentary Slavs.

>>97190630Not a boxnaught/10. Sad.
>>97190784No, it's stupid when the board gets flooded with microtopics like this. You'd have a point if this thread were about, say, designs of space marine dreadnoughts in general, but OP is just talking about a single picture of a single model he saw.
>>97197271Your argument would have more merit if we hadn't just had exactly the sort of thread you claim is acceptable, and it resulted in the exact same "you missed the general" shitflinging from displaced Redditards that we see in every single standalone thread regardless of substance or merit. If a topic can sustain a discussion, it will sustain a discussion for however long that topic is of interest. We don't have karma, you can't upvote for popularity, literally the only mechanism by which a topic can be judged is its longevity in the catalog and "microtopics" like this one are every bit as valid as some creaking, bloated General thread that only serves to satisfy an autistic fixation on sorting that would be better served by going to literally any other website than 4chan.That's not a bug, it's a feature. 4chan is behaving exactly as intended when someone shares a picture of a model they like with an anecdote about it. I'm sorry that doesn't satisfy your refined sense of aesthetic value, but your Asperger's diagnosis is not my problem. Suck it up and hide the thread if it bothers you. Else, you know where you can go back to.
>>97190784Holy based>>97193023How do you know that
Hey /tg/ I'm playtesting an initiative system that's been tried before in other systems and is detailed nicely on "Tabletop Curiosity Cabinet"The system uses Meyer (and Kieth Farrell's modern adaptation) of "Vor, Nach, Gleich, Indes" as steps in a fight.Basically, the player with the initiative chooses an action ("Vor"). The enemy chooses a reponse ("Nach"). The dice are rolled to determine an outcome ("Gleich") and the movement into the next state ("Indes").Practically it looks like: Player A chooses a bind. Player B chooses to parry. Both players resolve a dice roll. The resolution will determine who has initiative for the next system.Very fencing-like, and makes initiative more of a "push-pull" based on success rather than a "you-go, I-go" traditional style.I believe systems like TRoS and their derivatives (like Song of Swords) use a similar sort of initiative style. My questions for the thread:1. While this system works pretty well for individual combats, it struggles when there are multiple combatants. It also falls into the same trap of "you go, I go" which is; in a real fight, you're probably waiting for an opening (e.g. an enemy attacking an ally) to take advantage of in order to strike. I wonder if anyone has creative solutions to this problem?2. Are there initiative systems that you find work well? Anyone forego initiative entirely in favor of fully narrative initiative (e.g. Daggerheart)?
>>97197145Initiative as an oscillating variable allows for some interesting mechanics.>multiple combatantsAn easy fix, just have the initiative flip be ally-based instead of locked to a single individual. If you successfully defend and gain initiative, you don't need to take it directly but can hand it off to a friendly. That would also mimic the "waiting for an opening" thing, although you'd want to make sure there's incentive to diversify the initiative-taker. Maybe a stamina system?
>>97197646>"Narrative Initiative" is trashJustify this
>>97197703No.
>>97197703Games.
>>97197646>>97197696Thanks anons, I think that might be the answer. I’ll have to try it on our next playtest. Might open up for some interesting flexibility. Thinking ahead the only thing that might get finicky is a weird chain reaction that might end up silly. Let me describe it: Team A, B, C are lined up against Team X, Y, Z. Player A has initiative and so attacks player X. Player Y chooses to attack A, seeing an opening. Player B attacks player Y, seeing an opening. And so forth. The solution might be very discretely controlling which side has initiative so that this ONLY happens in the unusual circumstance where A loses initiative to Y, Player Y loses initiative to B, etc. Anyone have a favorite system?

What makes a setting don't feel generic a.k.a. not DnD?
>>97197795As a tip, if you're going to samefag you need to not restate your arguments verbatim like that. It makes it painfully obvious you're the same guy.
>>97197828>turbo communistsThey're capitalist as fuck and share their wealth ONLY with their blood-related kin who are also dorfs, with any other races or foreigners they're TND. Look at how they behaved in The Hobbit, they risked the lives of everyone in a 100 mile radius for a chance at some gold and then fought to the death protecting their investment.
>>97191156Don't copy tolkein.
>>97191156A setting? Intense versimilitude in some aspect of the worldbuilding that is relevant to the players experience of the game. Like if you have at least one bit of the setting where you the author poured your autism and the players can directly interact with it and learn something new, it will stick. Doesn't make it good, but will make it pop out.
>>97191156That depends on what elements of a setting you find "generic". Some people might thing big witch woman with massive tits and classic witch hats is the most generic garbage ever, others in this very thread think it is innovative today. You might find the anime/manga Delicious in Dungeon the most generic thing ever or you might find it's takes on fantasy food, dungeons, adventures, and the various races to be cool and innovative. Basically it's what >>97191178 said, but it's have to be an idea that YOU and the PARTY find unique to the space. Since this thread loves talking about tits, I do like a big pair of tits, but personally if a property is leaning too much on sexuality I just assume it sucks ass and it tries to shove a bunch of sexy characters in your face to make up for being dogshit (ala gacha games) or will pretty much lack any substance besides sex, and in that case I'd rather just look at some porn and finish in 5-10 minutes and get on with my day than play a "generic gooner rpg" where all the girls have massive tits to make up for having the personality of cardboard. Likewise though, if there a complete and utter fear of sexual or dark topics at all, the game is gonna feel stilted and dishonest and "generic" when all the game has to offer is safe and clean fantasy troupes that people are sick of. Anons in here clearly are constantly exposed or choose to see the "stilted and sexless" generic fantasy and thus assume the sexy gooner fantasy is non-generic. However, somebody on say, tumblr for example, might want something sexless because all they ever see or choose to see characters with flat personalities and massive boobs and figure that THESE are generic and those that oppose this in favor of what they view as more story rich games are, in fact, not the generic ones. This isn't a political thing (it can be though) but it really just depends on what type of setting you personally see constantly and just don't like.
Were these novels the Critical Role of their day?
>>97141402Gygax was a fucking retard and his rules are awful. Who cares what he thinks.
>>97193701Its fascinating to see the progression of the realms into D&D's defacto setting.Because back in the day the main setting was Greyhawk, but that had ties to Gygax and FE had eclipsed it in popularity and content during 2E on top of Greenwood just being happy people were making things in his setting, and the popularity of the Baldur's Gate games, meant that when D&D was trying to solidify itself into a platonic state for 5e, just saying fuck it and making FR the base setting made sense, even it it wasn't the best call of the overall state of the hobby or the realms themselves.
>>97193701I'm not gonna sit here and pretend my older campaigns weren't glib, full of references to different things or often devolved into silliness but I feel like there was at least an attempt to be serious. Not a successful one because we were all 15 year old asshats, but ignoring all goofing around we still wanted to be sincere about it. It used to be you started a serious campaign and cracked shit because you were with your friends. But now it's like everyone goes in expecting it to be LOL SO QUIRKY! You're not even deep into the first session before someone now is trying to be RANDOM!
>>97160170>Reading books was the smart mans joy. Just like it still is.The average reader today is a woman gooning to "romantasy", lmao.
