>>
>>64740747
How much shit do you want to carry and what's your current chest rig setup look like? I don't see armor as optional in the current year so my perspective is all shaped by that. But the amount and location of stuff you can fit on your torso while still having ready access to it is very, very limited without paying for it in some other way. I see big comfy supported belts as the only practical way to carry any quantity of ammunition more significant than a milspec combat load.

The furthest back I can grab anything easily on my cummberbund is the first 4-5 columns of PALS. Anything behind that is so far up in my armpits it's not coming out except as an administrative thing. RN my plate carrier is set up to hold roughly the equivalent of a mayflower gen 4 (those magazines being my fast mags) while everything else goes down on my belt.
>>
>>64740984
cont

On the belt I can reach almost all the way behind me to access your shit without any issue. You're a little blind when reaching for stuff at small of your back but the sides and your 5/7 o'clock are really easy to get to. Compare that to torso mounted gear where your available workspace is reduced by about a third.
>>
>>64740984
I only want to carry at max 24hrs worth of stuff. Water is most of my weight as I'm a thirsty bitch
I'm on a small micronesian island and I know from experience it would probably only take me 12ish hours to get from the east coast to the west coast if an easy route was available. If i have to cross hills/valleys could be more or less. (Ideally i just drive there lol)
My goal would be to get from my place to my dad's doomsday prepper house which is only like 5miles as the crow flies but the middle of the island is brutal.
lots of climbing, it's wet+muddy, hot humid etc.

my current chest rig is one of those meme micro rigs, with some expanded flaps. Got a decent size admin pouch, and I can carry 6 mags of .308 max. usually just 4 on the chest though. Instead of an H or X strap I have it connected to a small backpack, which has survival gear/water purification/food and barely enough space for a water bladder.
I can wear 2 nalgenes on my belt but I wore the belt larping last week with almost nothing on it and I thought it sucked so I'm not too excited about wearing water on it. All of this stuff can be worn over or attatched to my plate carrier but I think the extra weight and heat of the PC would kill me faster than chicoms
>>
>>64740998
In past experiments I found that the weight of three 30rd 5.56 mags and 1L of water was my comfortable limit before I really started wishing for suspenders while moving fast.

Have never found a comfortable way to carry water bottles on a plate carrier or chest rig that didn't come at the cost of prime ammo real estate. Belt is a little better if it's supported and the weight is evenly distributed but big bulky items like that at the 5-7 o'clock really interferes with your ability to sit in vehicle seats.

Why aren't modified airliners used as strategic bombers?
I mean these days they are expected to just lob lob ALBMs and cruise missiles.
Modified civilian planes are already commonly used in military operations as tankers, AEW&C and maritime patrol aircraft.
>E-7 is literally just 737 with big radar bolted on
>P-8 is literally just 737 with bomb bay and hardpoints
>KC-46 is literally just 767 with a glorified sippy straw bolted on

So why are B-52s still kept on life support?
surely it would be cheaper to operate a (more or less) off-the-shelf airliner instead of wasting billions on modernising such an antediluvian airframe

>Ukrainian ground drones are now solo holding positions, chunking ziggers with .50 cal
Are you ready for the war in ukraine to evolve into a situation where russian meat waves get gunned down by robots, while ukie soldiers focus on air defense and drone operation?

>A Ukrainian commander said his troops used a single remote-controlled vehicle with a machine gun to hold frontline areas for nearly six straight weeks.
>The gun-wielding drone used by Zinkevych's troops was the Droid TW 12.7, developed by the Ukrainian company DevDroid. It is a remote-controlled tracked buggy equipped with a .50-caliber M2 Browning.
>Two versions of the ground drone with grenade launchers — the Mk-19 and AGL-53 40mm — were also approved last month by Ukraine for official military use.

One likely scenario for a civilian on a homestead and defending and 3x9 DMish with a reticle to calculate the distance up to 600 yards. The other scenario is traveling in a populated area when the threat is less than 100 yards so dot and middy barrel. ACOG not useful when not on a line of fighters vs. a line of fighters and if I was, ACOG would be the top of my list.

>weight
normal scopes need an additional mount which could easily weigh a half pound if it's any good.
that's on top of the fact that all similar weight 4-12 scopes are dogshit hunting scopes with duplex reticles that will break instantly.
and yeah they're also fucking gigantic, that is a problem.

The elcan is a primitive LPVO. The ACOG is the most advanced fixed power scope. We are not the same. If the Elcan was half the price of the ACOG, it would still be an inferior optic.
>>
If Trijicon made a SFP Vcog 1-6 it would be the last optic I buy. I want more LPVOs with integrated mounts.

Dragons would still be a major factor in wars to this day. Any nation that has dragons that is hearing about another nation experimenting with non-dragon aircraft would naturally freak out at the idea of someone else getting airpower that doesn't need food and shelter. Of course, airplanes and helicopters do need food (fuel) and shelter (else they decay from weather) but 99% of people would freak. There would constantly be attacks by countries with dragons to try and keep a new dynamic from opening up.
Once airplanes do show up (I imagine with some significant multi-decade delay compared to reality), dragons are still going to eviscerate them for the first decade or so, assuming that dragon wings aren't made of paper machete. Alot of early planes were loud, slow, and very light weight, perfect for just damaging or shredding with claws. Dragons are comparatively quieter and likely nimbler. The smarter the dragons we are talking about, the longer the bullying of early airplanes goes on for. Balloons have an even shorter and more laughable existence then in our world.
Once we get to all metal airplanes being fielded in gigantic quantities like anything post-WW1, Dragons finally stop being the end-all-be-all of wars, where wars can be won or lost based on just how many dragons you can field without starving/underarming your soldiers. Now they become eternal harassers. Every country in wartime now has to deal with their own semi-modernized version of Hannibal and a few African Elephants in their homelands, but now it's a dragon or three that can show up, tear up a factory or farm, and then fly away to hide in one of your forests or mountains before your internal security services can respond. I'm sure a few Dragons also still get deployed to battlefield, but almost exclusively as ground force assistance while fighters and waves of bombers soar even over them. Think of it like having a quieter, much slower, but nimbler A-10 as your close air support.
(1/2)
>>
>>64727248
>>64740804
(2/2)
Dragons would be further minimized once you finally get guided MANPADS but their very presence still demands attention and as long as we're looking at two countries sharing a land border or being very close to having borders. Dragons would absolutely be used in Russia vs Ukraine, kept away from the meatgrinder frontlines but each country would have a dragon or two trying to tear up the backlines and economies. They'd be ground-support and target-finders in the current Cambodia-Thailand war, but likely not so much backline harassment stuff. They'd get no use in last year's Iran-Isreal 12 day war, the distances would be too great.

The real question about dragons in warfare is how smart are they? If they're fundamentally just animals and are around dogs or horses in intellect then there's going to be centuries of dragon breeding programs going on with dragon breeds specializing in tasks, but having limited ability outside of them. Some dragons are best at tanking horseback archers, some are better at breaching walled defenses, some our just for logistics support or target sighting. etc etc.
If they're human-level or near-human level in intellect and can communicate, even non-verbally, they're going to have alot of their own abilities to choose mates and while there would be pressure to choose the best possible mates for the best offspring, we'd likely see just one or two breeds of dragons being represented all over the world as jack-of-everything master of nothing, but good training and thinking would let them be very very adaptable and flexible in combat.
>>
Are they magical dragons that can shapeshift?
If so they could be easily relevant even into modern times.
>Dragon spec ops shapeshifts into an enemy civilian
>they can now transform and unleash death at their leisure
>>
>>64740827
Dresden Files has an interesting twist on this: yes, the dragons can shapeshift and have unfathomable Shadowrun-tier demigodlike power, each one basically a faction unto their own. But (so far) it seems that if they were to employ their powers, it would break certain pillars of reality, so their hands are somewhat tied.
>>
>>64738846
NTA but muskets do deliver 10-20 times the force then the best crossbow. This matter since armor that are thick enough to be proof against arrows wont be proof against muskets without getting much thicker. Historical armor constantly gained weight the more firearms got introduced overtime to a point where 16th century suits of armor had a weight of around 25 kilos (some examples had a weight of around 40 kilos) compared to previous era of 14th-15th century suits of armor that had weight of around 15 kilo. A steel breastplate with a thickness around 2-3mm that is proof against arrows at point blank range have to be 8-10mm thick to do the same thing against muskets.

Now does that mean that individual musketeer are gona be killing dragons left and right? I would say it would depend on the size of the dragon. The bigger the dragon, the larger the gun has to be so wall guns, swivel guns and small cannons all the way up to large field cannons for the really big dragons. Then there is the problem of hit probability on a flying target at a unknown range for the musketeer, dragon riders can just fly at an alltitude of 500 meters and have a relativly speaking good chance of not getting hit at all from any musket carried by the musketeer.

Why wouldn't something like pic related work fine as a "do everything" gun for a person living in the densely forested hills of Appalachia, where the power and ballistic advantage of a rifle simply isn't necessary?
>plinking will be good fun with the naturally subsonic .45
>definitely suitable for home defense
>easy enough to fit in a backpack, or take the can off and carry it on your person
>get some .45 Super for killing deer or hogs, or mess around with round ball loadings for taking small game or for pest control
Yes, it's true that rifles can be had for dirt cheap these days. And it's also true that there is no real reason to limit yourself to just one gun, especially a handgun. But in an autistic min-max fantasy where you literally can only own one gun and it has to be able to be carried 24/7/365, does a suppressed .45 automatic make sense? The only real downside I see here is that this is not the best option for summertime concealed carry in hot climates.

If you’re criticizing 147gr JHPs for not expanding because they are slower while simultaneously praising .45 for being even slower. Pick one.
