Has anyone had any memorable ship combats in games? Give us the play by play, who were you, who was the enemy, what were you both there for, and how did it go?I had one where I was hired by the navy to recon a suspected ork system. I was in a Firestorm, the initial opposition was a pair of roks (formerly the planet's moon). I played wild weasel with them for a while, chipping them down a bit, when something (possibly a warp drive implosion, definitely a random table result) spat a pair of traitor ships out of the aether. One was a Hellbringer, I believe, and the other was likely an Iconoclast. The traitor ships emerged north of the roks, which was rather unfortunate for me as I was east of them at the time, recovering from a pass at them. Being in their broadside arcs, I had my enginseer hit the jets and managed to loop around to their aft, where I sank a lance shot into the Hellbringer's engines and rolled well enough to cripple its maneuverability. The roks, sporadically and chaotically, as is their wont, began to converge on the damaged cruiser, and I moved wide to pick off the now lonesome escort (which had unwisely tried to chase me down.)Given that my Firestorm was equipped with a rather powerful archaeotech lance, and the escort had already taken chip damage from 'Eavy Gunz, I slagged the hull in a single pass and set to towing it away for the bounty of adamantium, leaving the cruiser and orks to duke it out behind me.
>>97237639RT ship combat is an absolutely awful system. I wish FFG would do "legally distinct 40k" a-la Void War and revise their early work, they were getting close with DH 2.0 and IM is a step back.
>>97238647It has its issues (huge, glaring issues), but patches have been made for them, and I find the resulting system to be quite fun.
>>97238647it's not that awful it's just not intuitive for starting players or GMs to understand how to make it fun. Sure, it breaks down when PCs get like two advances in characteristics and skills each, and as far as the astropath and the missionary are concerned this is netrunner-tier side show, but it's not awful.>>97237639nah ship talk smothers the thread enough alreadythreads have really gone down in quality

>>97235295Practice the Iceberg Theory: You should know 90% of the world, but only 10% should ever appear on actual RP. The 90% exists only to give the 10% weight. If you find yourself researching the crop rotation cycles of a province your protagonist will never visit, you’ve likely crossed into the bottom of the iceberg. When you look at real-world history, you realize that nothing exists in a vacuum. A simple choice—like a character eating a bowl of spicy noodles—is actually a web of complexity from agriculture, trade routs, culture, linguistics, sociology, science, history. The very words you use have a backstory. When you use a word like Duke (or Duque), you aren't just using a synonym for "leader"; you are dragging 2,000 years of Roman military history (dux), Latin evolution, and Carolingian feudalism into your fictional world. If your world doesn't have a "Rome," how can it have a "Duke"? You either have to accept that you are translating the story to a modern audience (very easy and common and even recommended solution), made up a backstory for why Dukes coincidentally are called as such in-universe, or invent a whole new title.Once you see these, you can never un-see them and they are EVERYWHERE. Here are a few words that often "break" worldbuilding if you're being strictly logical and don't use "translation" as a device:Draconic law: Named after an Athenian Greek law reformer. Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97235973unless you want to go down the route of deriving words for all of these things/concepts then accepting them as translations for things is far easier
Is World Anvil worth the price?I'm asking as both a GM (World of Darkness, Mekton, Cyberpunk, occasionally D&D, recently Maid RPG, Call of Cthulhu) and as an aspiring writer.Like, sure it's the price of a Netflix sub but I'm wondering if anybody here has paid for it and if you think you got good value out of it. Bonus points if you can tell me which tier you got.

Since what I am making is inspired by a lot of /tg/ things like chess and dungeon and dragons and board games, I want to see opinions.I am making something like your own tabletop single player battle. The idea is that you have a party of 256 posible characters with their own traits, and then you put them in a map, like chess, and then see them simulate their behaviour. So, my goal is to make an npc simulator, where you're like a dungeon master.Dunno really what I am making, but hopefully anons here like my game.
>>97236396That looks interesting. Do they just walk around and fight? Are you looking for NPCs or RPGs to greentexts to represent characters on the board? What are the rules here?
>>97236464I am figuring out things. My initial idea is to have 16 families of 16 anime isekai girls, and then set up some DNA like traits used for the calculations. Then each girl would have like a hostile or friendly score to each other. And then use that to basically make a battle royale, and my initial idea is that gilrs don't attack first their allies but they attack the ones they hate first.Beyond that, I want to put a level editor where you can summon and spawn, tools and items, and food. The rules are basically a battle royale.
>>97236664Is this like that hunger games thing that was popular for a while?
>>97236396>>97236664A good idea would having something like a stealth and reputation mechanic. If you're having a death battle, seeing someone attack someone you like would probably lower their opinion of them. So some characters should try to single out their target from their allies to quickly eliminate them without too much fuss. Other characters might be more brutish, and openly attack those who they don't like.
>>97238327kinda, but my goal is to make it better.>>97238352I want to have something like a DNA of traits I can use in the game calculations. So having something like dexterity, inteligence, fears, likes, etc.

>>97236665Nope. Toddlers and babies were shown photos of snakes and they reacted with fear despite never seeing snakes before. It is literally coded in our genes to fear snakes.
