On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

>>97240164star wars aliens are around the sweet spot for me. my limit is somewhere between the original trilogy and prequel trilogy. a player can be a guy with a weird lizard head like greedo, or a big hammerhead. they can have a set of arms or extra legs, maybe tentacles instead of arms, but they should be mostly humanoid. a theoretical actor should be able to fit within a costume of the alien. i wouldn't want a player to play a wacky prequel trilogy alien like sebulba or that cunt with the long neck

>>97264841>It is like totally honest hooking on drugs.People do not generally pay you to take drugs, and indeed the problem is people like taking drugs too much. It is actually just analogous to totally normal sex work/surrogacy/arranged marriage/etc.>Modern mentality killed all the thrill. "We are friends with everybody now, even if they normally want to kill us" or "that's your typical alienated lizardman whose mental processes are the same as of an American basedboy".You think the only two options that exist are inimical to human existence and American basedboy because you are an ideological xenophobe. You are cringe and retarded. People with autism or schizoid personality disorder have significantly different psychological processes from the norm, they are not evil, and it's perfectly possible for them to work together with other different people. The idea that people who are very different from you naturally must be your enemies is a product of your tiny walnut-sized brain.
>>97265100>There is no self-interest with Deep Ones because the end point is destruction of humanity.Literally what the fuck are you talking about?>So why did they destroy the townThey didn't. >and killed the people in 1846?Half the people. As in half weren't killed. Sounds like a civil war.>Then there is nothing alien at all. The Alien from the Ridley Scott's movie is just a typical predator, you can find them all around the world. Just your typical crocodile. The Deep Ones don't act as predators preying upon humans. If they did, you might have a point. Unless you don't find crocodile psychology alien.>And yeah, Aztecs and Spanishards were pretty alien to each otherNow you're equivocating. If your standard for alien psychology would apply to other humans, then how does it differ from an "American basedboy"?

If you make a basedboy pseudo-historical setting, when even nowadays in your fucking country people kill each other because of some ideological and alienated hatred, then you are just stupid. I didn't say that they are evil, maybe you are evil (but no, you are just stupid). When you eat your fucking chicken on dinner that doesn't mean that you are evil toward chickens, idiot.
>>97265278>People generally make money on your habits, and especially those habits which could cost your life or health. Read some books about actual history and actual social interactions between different cultural groups. If you make a basedboy pseudo-historical setting, when even nowadays in your fucking country people kill each other because of some ideological and alienated hatred, then you are just stupid. I didn't say that they are evil, maybe you are evil (but no, you are just stupid). When you eat your fucking chicken on dinner that doesn't mean that you are evil toward chickens, idiot.See, this is exactly what I am talking about, you are an ideological xenophobe. The alien could have literally any trait but it's different so it's intrinsically bad. You're fucking retarded. Americans and Japanese engage in mutually beneficial trade today, and have for the past 80 years, but that doesn't count as "actual history" because that's only when different groups are violent, not when they cooperate for mutual benefit.

>>97260994>I'm not sure if we need to make individual books for the mini-factions.The only 3 I have in mind myself are the Abolitionists, the Lost Men and La Ombre, the last 2 exists but have not been polished enough in my opinion to warrant uploading.to the TTS mod (soon, I put some time on La Ombre as well in the last 2 weeks). The unifying thread to those 3 is that they are small groups with increasingly higer concept goals, from the mundane to the metaphysical, and having made pacts with fell powers in order to do so. Way I see it, Napoleon is the least relatable anti-hero imaginable. Every encounter with him needs to be made into some sort of Hoffmanesque scene. Malcolm is a lot more relatable, but he is still fighting a nationalistic revolution that we can't really see him achieving anyways. Abolitionists would be a more relatable way to showcase a deal with the devil made on good intentions. Anyways, that was the general idea behind the three being "put together"...
>>97261624Since we're on the topic, I had some ideas rattling around to dump out. I never managed to piece them together into something I liked though:>Tubman was living in New York (State not city) at the time of the raid>New Mu takes slaves as seen with the Morlocks, probably human ones too, maybe several Americans>Tubman had served as a scout/spy during the Civil War and led troops>Confederato forces are running around in the 4th layer as part of the golden syndicate too, the same layer New Mu mainly lives on>Also Atlan existsNapoleon semi-accidentally on purpose unlocked his powers by shooting himself, Malcolm (was nagged by his GF) sought out the Shadow Palace on the 8th (I think), so my view is that someone/thing went to the surface and offered Tubman her deal. She was retired with a family at the time of the New York raid so unless someone went out of their way to get her going I don't see her moving from civilian life to a millitary one again. I kept working over the idea of her joining the long march on her own to help free captured Americans, but by the 1870s I think it would have been more likely she would have worked to raise money instead unless some mysterious force gave her cool powers to help guide the long march.>Stage Coach as RenaultLike the War Wagon from that one film or a more classic wooden one? Considering the US' mobility gimmick I vote for the latter. For lost men, do you want any polishing assistance? I wrote some of the current ones and can try to elaborate on what I was going for in the case of clumsy wording.
Previous thread: >>97111514GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.If you're wondering where to start:- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. >>97264916'It's CINEMATIC, so anything goes' is even worse than 'it's magic, I don't have to explain shit' or 'rule of cool, don't question me'. 'Cinematic' doesn't mean 'bullshit'. We've all seen films, and we're perfectly aware that there is no cinematic convention of more expensive materials taking longer to craft. It's just simplifying things to make them more convenient to gameplay, but there's no real reason to simplify crafting that much because you're dealing with something that takes hours or days of character time, so there's little pressure to rush to a quick answer.More importantly, it doesn't actually satisfy what OP asked. He wanted a system which had less reliance on item price, but your system is totally dependent on it.Unfortunately, all the published crafting systems are very reliant on prices. After the End 2 and Monster Hunters Power-Ups 1 have a version of crafting using existing items which works well for gadgeteers, and the latter and Meta-Tech have a method of converting advantages into $ value.
>>97265087cinematic rules doesn't mean "only movies" dude.it applies to converting things from other media, like video games.>More importantlyIf it was "more important" you'd have mentioned it in this post. >>97264872If you did, I would have replied that he asked "less gm fiat AND less reliance on $ value"What I offered had less gm fiat. You just pick item and craft it, no gm fiat involved.Furthermore, you're only bringing this up now to have a real complaint about the system that isn't about your inherent "feeling" that gurps should be realistic.
>>97265252>cinematic rules doesn't mean "only movies" dude.>it applies to converting things from other media, like video games.Sure, but your rules aren't emulating a convention from any media. They only make sense in terms of an RPG, where simplified rules reduce the work-load of the GM. So they are 'easy' or 'rules-light' not 'cinematic'.>If it was "more important" you'd have mentioned it in this post. That was a different poster. I can't put content into other people's posts.>Furthermore, you're only bringing this up now to have a real complaint about the system that isn't about your inherent "feeling" that gurps should be realistic. This is completely wrong. I am a big fan of GURPS rules which emulate the conventions of different genres, including cinematic ones. I just recognise that they should serve a purpose, such as encouraging certain behaviours or maintaining pacing, in order to tell a specific sort of story.I guess your rules can be said to do that, in that they encourage minimal focus on crafting by providing a quick answer in order to engage with things which you feel are more important.

However, you do things in a weird, wacky woohoo way that tends to inflict collateral (literally or figuratively) in place of sheer effectiveness. >>97264668Some people from the Realm are obviously irreverent, similarly to, say, how people in the Middle Ages weren't always good Catholics and might outright war with the Pope. Catholic Church was still a big deal in the Middle Ages, though, as is Immaculate Order in the Realm. A Solar appearing on the Blessed Isle and trying to get people to help him would be like Satan walking into a medieval village and going "Hey, I might be Satan, but I'm actually a good guy".>>97264674Immaculate Order offers education, charity, protection from rogue spirits, spiritual certainty and comfot - which actually does matter to people - rules and social pressure that keeps the worst excesses of the Dynasty more or less in check, and also monks frequently demonstrate against behavior of the ruling class thhey find immoral, inappripriate and un-Immaculate and sometimes side with peasants during peasant rebellions. The Order does plenty, and the setting in every edition is written with the assumption that people on the Isle do, by and large, take their faith seriously. As I said, it's obviously fine to change that if something else fits your game better, but it's a big change, and the default setting is still one where people, inlcuding Dragon-Blooded, genuinely believe in what the Immaculate Order teaches. Go read the sidebar "Constructed Belief" on page 70 of 1E's Exalted: the Dragon-Blooded>>97264723Realm's peasants obviously have a raw deal compared to modern-day Western world, but they're no worse off than peasants anywhere else in Creation. Which is not great because peasants in general aren't in a great position, but it's not like the Realm's an uniquely or even particularly terrible society for its own. Now, with social Charms a Solar obviously can swing pretty much any mortal to his side, but just starting glowing golden on the Isle and expecting peasants to decide that this guy is cooler than their current lords wouldn't work in the canon setting.

Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsingSo I started thinking. For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup? There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat? What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory? What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.Comment too long. how did you explain having literal blue human women in your scifi setting?
>>97259986They make my dick hard
>>97259986Alien interface organism.Basically, aliens use custom printed biomorphs instead of space suits, when you come to a new planet its easier to simply copy the template of the existing local life forms and use whatever THEIR evolutionary optimizations are for the local environment than it is to try and solve all of those problems yourself on short notice to keep your true self alive on a planet wildly different than what you were evolved for. If you are a methane-ocean jellyfish creature, life on the surface of the Earth is never going to work very well without massive life support systems and robotics. So instead of that, you whip up a human/jellyfish creature hybrid thats human enough to survive on Earth but jellyfish alien enough that its compatible with your brain patterns and then download yourself into that to walk around on Earth and talk to humans with.if you are going to do this anyway, you naturally would also design the interface organism to be as broadly attractive as possible to the species you are communicating with, making it more likely that you will be accepted and treated favorably. There are almost never downsides to being considered hot. So what do aliens talking to humans end up as? Different varieties of space babes. Space hunks might *seem* like an option, but male humans are more likely to feel intimidated by a sexy space man, so that's counter-intuitive to the purpose of the interface.
>>97259986In that specific example, it's implied they project a mental effect that makes them attractive to whoever is looking at them (since different aliens claim they have traits humans can't see). Tho even in that it's implied they mostly humanish
