Is it possible?
I like scifi as a genre because all the new tech that show us, but in terms of aesthetics, always looks like shit.

Do you know any scifi RPG with good aesthetics? Even if it's just concepts, draws or artworks.

PD: If someone is going to say 40k, I admit it has cool things, but I don't find it pleasant.

Goods explanations, yet I still think believe you can have a cool armor that has no "historical references".

>>97347883
Honestly, I find those different styles cool, so I have no preference, for me "good scifi aesthetics" is something that looks cool, you want to wear it and it's also useful (actually protectc your body).

Many times, when I watch a scifi show, film or play a game, I get burnout because I see the armors and feel cringe af.

>>97375304
Unpopular opinion, but I don't like the armors, too overdetailed with lines but no figures not motives (like the chest armor of a Roman emperor statue). Also, the plastic look of them doesn't help either.

Writing General: 'festive' edition

Welcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product.

As the successor to the Storythreads, we're also open to /tg/ related fanfiction (D&D, Warhammer, Battletech, whatever). In fact, if you've written any vaguely /tg/-related short stories, you can try them out here. We also have flash-fiction challenges from time to time.

There's a discord for writers here
https://discord.gg/6AwKHGF

The previous thread can still be found in the archive here
>>96644454

And finally an archive of /tg/ fiction can be found here:
http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Storythread (dead link, but may be resurrected one day)

>The idea is they follow armies and find marriage prospects while also being on guard against more feminine seduction. It's kind of a running joke that they're the opposite of a femme fatale.
Honestly, fantasy tends to be well-worn tropes recycled in slightly different ways, but this is actually really original.

Thanks for the recs.

I think Danya's videos/streams are exactly what I'm looking for, but he's no longer with us sadly. I'm a newer player, hovering around 500, so that kind of "this is what beginners usually play, this is what you should be playing, this is how you punish these mistakes" are very valuable to me. But for the future I think I'll check out Andras Toth and Chess Dojo.

For now, I'd recommend two other things:

John Bartholomew: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao9iOeK_jvU

John might be a bit too chill for some people, but I can't imagine anyone calling him conceited, and he's very educational.

Chess Brah's building habits: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8N8j2e7RpPnpqbISqi1SJ9_wrnNU3rEm

There are also edited shorter versions out there, and kind of the same type of content but focussed on specific openings from him if you like them.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

Not him, but a useful starting framework is humans need something like fewer calories (2,000 or so) to work than a giant troll (50,000).
>>
>>97385100

Large-Scale Cooperation: While Neanderthals were incredibly strong and had brains as large as ours, they lived in small, isolated family groups. Homo sapiens, however, developed the ability to cooperate in much larger numbers.

One theory, popularized by the "Cognitive Revolution" hypothesis, suggests a genetic mutation allowed Sapiens to speak with greater complexity with abstract though and symbolic art.

Neanderthals were heavily muscled and lived in cold climates, requiring significantly more calories per day (estimated up to 4,000–5,000) than the leaner Sapiens. During a famine or a harsh winter, Sapiens could survive on much less. There is some evidence that Sapiens could have children more frequently, allowing our populations to bounce back faster after disasters.

The Climate Trap: As the climate shifted rapidly during the last Ice Age, the dense forests Neanderthals hunted in turned into open steppes. Neanderthals, who used heavy spears for ambush hunting, struggled to adapt to the open-plain hunting that Sapiens excelled at with their lighter, projectile weapons (like spear-throwers).

Sapiens were the ultimate "jacks-of-all-trades," capable of living in deserts, rainforests, and arctic tundras alike.

We were slightly better at getting food and reproducing, slowly pushing others into marginal areas where they eventually died out.

Alos assimilation (Interbreeding): We didn't just replace them; we absorbed them. If you have non-African ancestry, about 1% to 4% of your DNA is Neanderthal. In a sense, they didn't go entirely extinct, they were "bred out" into the much larger Sapiens population.

>Disease: As Sapiens migrated out of Africa, they likely brought tropical diseases that the isolated populations of Europe and Asia had no immunity against.

Shouldn't the sapiens be vulnerable to local diseases in europe/asia in turn? I always wondered why the spanish didn't get hit hard with some south american disease while the natives got absolutely destroyed by the european diseases the spanish brought with them
>>
>>97386327
Amerindians have less genetic diversity than other populations due to the bottleneck; basically, imagine there being 100 different "locks" against diseases in Eurasiafrica, and only 3 in the Americas. A disease adapted to Eurasian populations can get into Amerindian ones, but not vice versa. It will infect people (indeed, when people showed up in America, they tended to get sick as they were exposed to every new disease simultaneously), but it doesn't form the basis for a pandemic like smallpox.

As for Africa, "Eurasian" diseases like smallpox were already present there, because it was physically connected. However, the mainstay "African" diseases like malaria and sleeping sickness are born by parasites like mosquitos and the tsetse fly, and thus can't "leave." (Well, Italy used to be a malarial zone, but you know what I mean.)

I want to incorporate a catholic splinter movement into what I want to do, but I cannot for the love of me come up with something that feels original. I want to make their beliefs interesting.
As of now, all that occurs to me is that they could believe Mary is Jesus' literal Equal (taking the Mediatrix and Coredemptrix stuff to the next level), Victim souls are official dogma, and they believe in Thaumaturgy. But all of this is basically just exaggeration of what splinter catholics believe. The only things missing are having a fake pope and being sedevacantist. Another idea I came up with is that it could be all but run by 'nuns' (not actually ordained), but I fear that would be leaning too much onto the woman angle.
Can you guys provide me with some feedback? Some other niche catholic religious concepts are also much appreciated.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

My Anchrorite Shrine (St. Meth) just survived his 6th campaign game.
I started him out with an Anti Materiel Rifle and he's been doing fantastic work so far.
Hallowed Anchorite + Sacred geometry, and I got to promote him after the first game and he scored glorious deeds already.

These are the skills I rolled for him and they're nasty as fuck.
Question is: Is the AMR the best weapon for this? +1 on ranged attacks thanks to the Sacred Geometry.

At this point I really hope that most mysteries will remain mysteries.
The reveal usually is a letdown compared to fan theories and theorising is fun.
What happened to the paladin, the first act of heresy, the door etc. most of these are literally better off unanswered.

For new factions: I just hope they keep it to Abrahamic religions. It doesn't need to become an extended universe where Indian, Chinese, Latinamerican, Norse, Greek, Celtic and Japanese mythology all get their place. I'd be fine with borrowing some aesthetics here and there but I feel like introducing more gods/pantheons/mythologies will dilute the setting.

CRPG based on an adventure module I wrote and spent a bunch of money on. Really, I'd just tack on lewd CGs and pregnancy mechanics.

>What do you think of using AI
No. Not even gonna consider it.

>Have you ever played Second Life and similar sandbox games?
Nope.

>Do you think a porn game should focus on the audiovisuals making you cum faster
A pornographic game should absolutely be focused on the scenes and giving the most erotic experience possible. Being "Realistic" only really matters if you're playing a VR game.

>"lose for sex as a femMC"
Rape on loss is basically the lowest form of a lewd game there is. It has it's place in a porn game, but it really should not be the only way to get scenes. You should also get the loss scenes if you "win" the segment, however that's defined within the context of a game you're making.

4th had a few different options of play. It had a "Kill Team" ruleset, which was a kill team vs brutes, basically player controlled mooks. It also had a city fighting ruleset which was single model units IIRC. Although google says it was a separate supplement, but I am sure the core book had it too because I never owned any supplements.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

This is a nice idea, and partially well executed, but it suffers from some obvious flaws. The failure to concatenate terrains (Mountain/Mountains; Swamp/Wetland) seems like it should be an easy fix; the unfortunate choice of sources seems less easy to overcome. Worse, far too many entries are just shovelware monsters from the BFRPG Field Guides, some of which most likely nobody has ever used. Dream bear?

In general, a comparative resource for OSE and BFRPG seems to have limited value. Comparing OSE-AF to OSRIC is potentially more useful, but then the stat blocks of the former aren't on the site since they're not open content; adding one of the popular OD&D clones (presumably S&W White Box would win by default) would also have been valuable.

As this thing is now, it's just a bauble, not useful. I can't see myself returning to it.

Because there's no reason to. The Napoleonic Wars are already interesting. Adding dragons doesn't do anything and would bring into question a lot of what people like about Napoleonic warfare (the infantry tactics and formations that are unlike any other period). If you're interested in the period, by a copy of The Campaigns of Napoleon (David G. Chandler) and The Peninsular War (Charles Esdaile), read them, then buy a copy of either Age of Eagles or Field of Glory Napoleonics and enough Perry or Victrix figures to make a brigade with a few battalions of infantry, a unit or two of cavalry, and some guns.

Custodes were never meant to be the new humans. Marines were the sword, custodes were the shield, and the emperor would fight back the galaxy until humans became the new humans. Making his superhumans unable to propagate was always part of the plan, and the fact GW forgot or don't care sucks.

You posted this in /40kg/ already.

Thread dedicated to Sci-Fi based discussion. 40k need not apply. [\spoiler]

How goes your sci-fi setting, anon? I am currently running a Traveller game in a homebrew setting, and am getting lost in the sauce of stellar physics.

Militaries are already phasing out soldiers for drones where they can. Sci fi organizations aren't going to put humans in danger unnecessarily just to save money unless they just don't value human life, in which case they're villains.

It's something that's in seemingly every space setting, but it's there because it's cool as shit and you should do it too.

what does everyone think of this early abstracted star map for my system? it shows the Federation, Hegemony and ASI empire territories as coloured hexes, star systems as circles, and capital systems as a fancier star. The Neutral Zone is represented by white hexes.
I'm thinking that when the players are traveling at FTL speeds, each hex on the map represents a hyperspace jump, which takes about a day. Ships are fueled in an amount of jumps.
>>
How fast do you like your FTL? I definitely want it slow enough that you'd have rooms you sleep in on your spaceship but I don't know if it should be closer to a day or a week per light year.
>>
>>97380535
I haven't actually specified the speed, but my idea is that the actual FTL travel time is relatively short, less than 15 minutes or so, but the maximum distance a ship can travel without having recharge its warp drive is relatively short, making FTL travel consists of jumps between nearby systems, with the time between the jumps lasting several days. Also, large gravity wells interfere with FTL travel, so ships must drop out of FTL in the outer solar system and the final leg of the journey to habitable planets (which are invariably located closer to the star) must be done with conventional drives, and could takes hours or days depending on the mass of the star.
