How do I make a campaign revolving around the gimmick Arios Theoman's sword Escude revolves around work?

To explain
>Arios is the "hero" of the setting
>He has a magical sword that gets more powerful the more humanity dies
>It's a dilemma - he needs the sword to be at least 30 percent powered up to be able to even hurt the demons ravaging his world, but to do that he needs to allow humans to die - or even actively curtail their population himself so as to paradoxically save them

It's a killer concept - but I feel like as a campaign it becomes hard to gamify since the players could literally just do nothing, allow the sword to get powered up, and kill the big bad without any moral dilemma at all

That's retarded.
>>
>>97284375
Why didn't they make a magic sword that didn't need people to die and was just at 100% all the time?
>>
>>97284375
I guess you could give each PC a distinct legendary weapon or artifact that gives various buffs depending on the current human population. It could be something as simple as "+X to all stats", as crucial as "ignore X points of any demon's innate supernatural damage resistance", or it could be something unique to every weapon.
You should also have a "human population" statistic that the PCs can check with their weapons at any time. It doesn't have to give an exact number. You can just give a hint like "the weapon feels colder than when you last held it, as if the sollective life force of humanity is dwindling" or an abstract rating like "3 out of 10 jewels on the legendary scepter's head have faded black."
When the PCs complete a quest, you might adjust the human population depending on how well the PCs succeeded in their quest. You might determine this with a random roll, use a character of modifiers depending on how many objectives were accomplished, or just go by vibes.
If a PC dies, you might allow the weapon to be passed along to a new PC, or you might allow the old PC to be revived at great cost to the human population (it might require willing sacrifices, or maybe a fraction of the remaining population just gets magically Thanos-snapped at random). I think allowing PCs to revive at a cost is a neat idea, since it creates dynamic difficulty (if the PCs do well, then more people are saved, but things get harder for them; if the PCs are struggling, then they can just power up at the cost of human lives) and saves the trouble of having to roll up a new character.
If the PCs choose the easy path to power, or too many humans die, then make sure they feel the consequences. Places where the PCs can rest and resupply become sparser, replaced by ghost towns. Human allies and support networks become fewer and more expensive. Demons become more numerous (but not individually more powerful). And so on.
>>
>>97286300
forgive me, I might be having a stroke
>sollective life force
collective
>character of modifiers
chart of modifiers
>>
>>97284375
What if instead of requiring a % of population dying the sword is just powered up by human souls consumed? Then your players have to actively decide if it's worth it to personally slay innocents to power the sword enough to fight demons.

Any of you lads play reinforced platoon level skirmish WW2 (CoC etc) in 15mm? Want some honest opinions on how single based 15mm models work in this scale. I'm concerned about readability of single based 15mm figures, and I like making terrain and am also concerned single models might get a bit lost in the clutter of a table. I know Storm of Steel uses 15mm but his terrain is a bit more austere than I try to make.

I watched this video on printing a giant kumiko wall hanger that's 11 feet by 3 feet.
>>
>>97281376
How big are the pieces? The funny thing with resin is, if you print one or many on the same printrun, it takes the same time. FDM on the other hand takes the same time per model, so two take twice as long.

So it could be that printing in resin would take way less time than fdm if you can cram enough onto the buildplate.
>>
>>97276255
resin allows finer details but different material properties. FDM is generally a less-involved and quicker process at the expense of minute detail. FDM printers tend to have more buildspace and filament is generally cheaper than resin so it's good for terrain, and filament is generally better for functional parts due to the properties of the materials used to print.
tldr resin is good for visual pieces, fdm is good for functional pieces. resin printing is a more labor intensive process

George Washington Whooped the ass out of the most powerful army and their hired mercenaries 3 times in the span of a week and turned the dying embers of revolution into a brazen inferno.

Shakespeare wrote generational plays that inspired some of the greatest authors known to humanity

Aristotle inspired multiple generations of philosophers and create an entire subset of soft science through the reverberation of his work through the ages

Galileo revolutionized science and payed the ultimate price for his so-called 'insolence', dying at the pyre, speaking a truth so bold and so utterly mind boggling that the Pope himself sent him a letter to shut his mouth about the idea that 'the planet is a sphere'.

I wish we could actually determine which of these two things was most often happening:

1) new players are learning which gangs are "originals" and are specifically making the decision to play Enforcer/Squat/CGC to somehow distinguish themselves as fresh unbiased players

2) new players aren't really doing the research to even know which gangs are originals, and Enforcers/Squats/CGC just legitimately have the most widely-appealing aesthetics of all the new designs
>>
>>97286385
Both Enforcers and Squat had influx of releases in short period of time and that sparked interest in new players.

Enforcer is the most request gang for a long time due to them carried a legacy of being overpowered in old necromunda, their pop culture reference to Judge Dredd, and their status of being the police in a criminal gang wars game, making new players more attracted to them.

Sharing useful wisdom that has helped me run more satisfying games. Trying to share some less common advice. These are my opinions and techniques that have helped me. I’d love to hear what has worked for other /tg/ DMs.

1. Time pressure- adding time pressure through use of "clocks" including real life clocks is incredibly helpful to add pressure and tension to a scenario. Giving players choices but not enough time to make every choice adds meaning to those choices. Time pressure in combat is a contentious, but powerful tool to discuss with your players. Forcing a decision in seconds makes combat stressful and - when players are on board- fun (in anticipation of the common objection: if the players don’t make a choice in combat, I usually come back to them before round end, I never have them “just stand there”. Remember to assume character competency).

2- The GM-ing engine- It's okay to front load content and prepare a few different rail-roady hooks in the first few sessions. Being a GM is like starting one of those old prop engines with a winch. It takes a while for the pistons (players) to kick into gear. Once they do, after a few sessions, all you need to do is apply gas. Solve the tavern problem by figuring out how characters know each other prior to the first session.

3- Immersion means impact- After a session, reflect on how the player choices affected the world (for good or ill), try to let the ripple of that effect emerge in the next session. Players that feel like they change the world around them invest in it.

This will write a good 40% of sessions for you.

Honestly, I do too. A lot of 4e fans hate it because it stepped away from the AEDU framework and people who liked 4e liked that framework, but I don't actually care about that: an attack is an attack, and "hit harder" is a perfectly valid improvement rather than getting a "hit REALLY hard 1/encounter and move enemy one step / give enemy -1 slaves for 1 round/etc."

A lot of 4e's problem is having too much faff in combat, and Essentials classes reduced the faff
>>
>>97284813
If your players don't go hard in the paint, it can work, especially if you modulate battles towards their strengths.
>>97284845
I gently disagree, as I believe the wealth of options at all times was a boon for players who wanted to have meaningful impact outside 'I hit the dude'.
I've brought in almost a dozen new players to the hobby with 4e, and I have found that it is fairly easy to understand, has depth, and forges good habits of mindfulness and paying attention to the battle when the spotlight isn't directly on you.
One of my cherished memories was running a game for some teens at my LGS, and the fighter being the star because she just ran around protecting everyone, forcing a chokepoint and battering the attacking spider demons.
The look on her face when the party was cheering her on, watching the group fall in together like a well oiled engine, supporting each other, that is what this hobby really is about for me.
That was more than 10 years ago. I wonder what they are doing now?
>>
>>97236120
Of course 4e is going through a rennaissance. Compared to the monster that is 5e, 4e is very GM friendly to the point where a guy who hates making preps can actually run a decent campaign.
>>
>>97284665
I'm a big 4e fan and an Essentials hater but I'd still rather run pure Essentials than 3e or 5e. Its hated because of how boring its classes are compared to the base game, how unbalanced its classes are even compared to each other and the fact that it throttled books 4e fans actually wanted in the crib like the rest of the X Power 2 books and the Nentir Vale lore book. It then caused a sales crash which killed the edition, exactly what Mearls wanted when he started Essentials.

The Monster Vaults, Rules Compendium, adventures and equipment book would have been 10/10 if they weren't formatted like shit. I wish it had run long enough for Monster Vault 2 to redux MM2 like how MV1 was a 95% redux of MM1 with the better math and more options.
>>
>>97284845
It's not valid when it breaks the game's curve in an attempt to be different from AEDU. The Essentials classes that aren't worthless dogshit are either still AEDU or are broken as fuck early on and degrade into dogshit later. This is bad when the entire point of 4E was to get away from the Fighter solely hitting things with a stick and sucking at high levels.
