In the original intent, the fluff was meant to be a setting in which your guys could be in. Craftworld Fuckstain, the Warband of Raptavious, Hivefleet Sexual Assault and others would have their little fluff something you could put in there with the context from the larger story providing the background.

If you were kitbashy and ambitious enough, GW did stuff like set up rules to use lizardmen against necrons, or you could proxy your own army for this and that. Sometimes some fluff pieces like the Q'orl were meant to be a potential new threat/faction that never materialized due to GW going with Tau/kroot instead of Q'rol.

But you're right- in the new lore GW doesn't like to do that kind of thing specifically because if they can't sell plastic shit to retards like you, why write it?
>>
>>97256214
>sell plastic shit to retards
That's the entire point of wargames. If you're not buying plastic shit, then what are you actually doing?
>>
>>97256249
Because at one point the wargame encouraged your dumb ass to make your own chaos but chaosier kitbash, with new setups like GW actively discouraging kitbashing it means GW has no reason to write that stuff. It's telling because the fluff he's complaining about is like 20+ years old. The nu-lore would exist purely to complement a product launch.

>Because at one point the wargame encouraged your dumb ass to make your own chaos but chaosier kitbash
Custom armies are fun to talk about but implementing them in an actual game is another story. If I wanted to make a custom army based on aliens from the ghoul stars, I would not only need a reasonably fair set of rules for them but I would also need other players to recognize and agree to those rules. It's a hell of a lot easier to do that if it comes straight from the company's mouth.

Rak is pretty good, most people who think its bad just quote what they read on sarna and assume its bad. About the only real issues I have with it is that there are designs like the Hercules available as a slightly cheaper alternative even if it doesn't have as much arm armor as I'd like it to and of course you can have a Flashman for roughly the same price which is extremely hard to say no to. I also now wondering how the Daikyu would perform compared to it as an alternative option if you are running the playtest rules where UACs no longer jam?
>>97256329
You drop 2pts of armor for C.A.S.E. in the K. That is a worthwhile trade in my opinion.

TacOps has rules for headshot ejection, the mechwarrior ejects but you mark them down for 5 pilot hits regardless of preexisting hits, so if the ejection rolls badly they can still die from it. No saving them from an actual cockpit crit though.

Considering his family history, it's probably his personally owned Panther. And considering he's been passed over for entry into the Sword of Light specifically because he embraced the ideas of the Ryuken and Teddy's reforms. He's lucky he got a C3M and not a shuriken to the neck. Maybe after Teddy cleaned house he could have gotten swapped out for something heavier, but when he got his C3M, the entire idea of C3 and fighting as a team was unappealing to the traditionalists who were still nominally in charge (but rapidly dying off to the ronin war and clans).

I don't think that's true, I think that's the case for item quality and when you're bartering items you already have for a new thing, but not for the base price of the item.

>>97255779
I was using the wrong version, so my complaint about the chain weapons is moot, though the rest of the economy is still really strange. Thanks for the heads up though! Appreciate it.
>>
>>97255900
Ah, nah I was checking the wrong bit. For rarity it just can flat limit the quantity you can buy in certain locations. The base price does multiply based on quality/flaws, and it effects bartering using the weapons/items themselves as product though.

>>97255948
Right, right, my bad, was reading the wrong bit.

Probably, there are endless warp entities which GW just doesn't have the time to write about, so they focus on the big 4 and whatever else their writers feel like writing. If you want to make a Bombadil-esque god for your game, go for it.
>>
>>97255926
>>97256312
I should add, ofc warp gods exist through sentient emotion/belief in them. So in creating not!Bombadil you have to ask yourself who tf in the universe is feeding him and how - perhaps he is a manifestation of some mixture of folly/carefree-ness/apathy, fed by wanton wanderlust and desire to faff about (in a universe constantly at war giving its residents purpose these emotions are rare and fleeting, hence his status as a minor god).

The problem is the concept of Diesel Punk as it's been presented to the mainstream public focuses closer to WW2 because it's more of a recognized period of time. But when you look at the entire period of time it's supposed to represents it's 1910s–1950s. There is a lot that happened in that 40 year period.

> 10's and WW1. Mix of different possible enemies because the whole world went berserk. Gremany/Preussia, The Turks, Russia both Imperialist and Communist, France, Britain which includes Canada, Mexico, America, various parts of Latin America and Asia. That's not counting the different groups, Public and Secret, that were fighting in and across stare boarders. The group the Black Hand is considered to be what kicked of the war. Seriously, read about WW1 it's amazing how many countries and groups were fighting each other, it's a wealth of story material.

>The Roaring 20's. The Raise of Hollywood, Gangsters, Bootleging, and Federal Police fighting with local Police to see who got the glory of catching them.

> The 30's aka The Red Decade and the Great Depression. Economic Collapse, Government dominance, and the publics fascination with Socialism and Fascism (America's Wonder of Urban Planning, Stanlin's Soviet Union, Mussolini's Italy, and the Raise of Hitler's Germany). Drought and the Depression causing mass migration from Rural and City areas leading to cultural upheaval. Chinese, Japanese, Nazi, and Soviet espionage. Soviet back anarchist groups terrifying the public. The return of the KKK roaming rural areas. In the midst of this chaos and Insanity, The Birth PULP, RADIO, and COMIC HEROES! The Shadow, Doc Savage, The Spider, The Green Hornet, Secret Agent X-9, Sam Spade, Flash Gordon, Superman, Batman, Captain America, the list goes on and on. Capable men of means standing up for good and battling the corrupt.

>Complaining that an era containing the most famous war of all time is thematically dominated by that war in its aesthetic
I get what you're going for, and I love to see more of the era represented (this is where decopunk shines), but it's kinda hard to ignore.
>>
>>97256237
>>97256309
This is acknowledged within the aesthetic. There are two acknowledged subdivisions of dieselpunk, with World War 2 as the central divide.
>"Piecraftian" dieselpunk is during/post-WW2
>"Ottensian" dieselpunk is pre-WW2
>>
>>97256237
>1940's WW2 and the aftermath. The culmination of the insanity reaching boiling point in the form of another World War. From Paris to island beachs in the Pacific people must take up arms again. Britain and France need Allies to defend against the Axis, but who are the Allies and who are the Axis? America is hesitant to join the war effort, China is besieged by Japan, Russia has a treaty with German, Japan is in a uneasy partnership with Germany, and Mexico is receiving messages from Germany promising them American land if they join the Axis. Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and Hilter Marching on the USSR makes everything clear. The teams have been determined and war is in full swing. Rationing at home for the boys abroad, Women entering the work place, and everyone making sure that everyone is doing their part, aka TURN OUT THAT LIGHT. Espionage between enemy and ally and ally and ally ramps up to discover everyone's secrets. After never-ending combat 2 bombs send a loud roar over the nation of Japan with fire and force shaking the earth and blinding the sky. They announce the end of the war and the new age of man, the Atomic Age.

The point is there was so much going on in that time, for example the birth of aviation combat or sea Battles of WW1 or the formation of the studio system in Hollywood. If the only thing you know is the very end, Nazi spies for atomic secrets, you aren't properly using the setting. If you are really interested in things that have to do with Deisel Punk you need to do you research. There's a wealth of cool things waiting to be discovered by you and shown to the modern world. Trapping yourself in what has been presented to a mainstream audience since the late 80's is not going to do anything.

Thank you for reading.

No that's not the purpose of my post. I understand why there is a focus on WW2. My point is people in this thread who are interested in this time period but feel pigeonholed to one part of it need explore more and see all the different things it has to offer.
>>97256326
That's nice but why isn't this being shared with the people who are saying that they don't see much of this period other than getting to the Atomic age?

So an operative in vantage is basically untouchable until they've taken a shot and then lose their conceal?
>>
>>97252165
Page 60 of the core rulebook states

>As Vantage terrain is also Light, an operative on Vantage terrain will often be in cover from operatives lower than them — imagine them crouching down to gain a cover save or avoid being a valid target.

So the rules for drawing targeting lines from one operatives base to another still apply

>>97140366
You can download the rulebook here and check for yourself
>>

Friend wants to get into KT with us and wants to play custodes, but as far as I can tell they no longer have rules, is that true?
>>
>>97256295
Brah custodes are from like 2015 edition.
See the "Brief team summaries" catbox image for what's available. Then look up classified teams
>>
>>97255792
Well, theoretically.
But if what's protecting them is just the flat roof itself, then anyone with an equivalent or higher vantage point can just counter-target them as if they were out in the open.
And while it's usually not enough to have a spotter to target concealed enemies because they'll be hiding behind heavy terrain, vantage is only light, meaning that any team with a readily available seek light option can just shoot it.
Plus, they need to get up there. And stay up there. That's both a prerequisite movement to set up the threat, and a limiter on where they can target enemies. Combined with healthy amounts of heavy terrain, it can be surprisingly hard to get a shot that you couldn't instead have gotten from the ground just as well.

In practice, high ground is more for use to create area denial and niche situations. A vantage point that actually is as good as all those juicy benefits sound is usually a sign of a poor killzone setup.

>>97256295
Yeah, custards were outed with the 2024 edition. Not an option without homebrew. Plus, they never made for particularly fun games, the other player just dumped all killing power into one target and then played hide and seek the rest of the game to win on points.
If he was interested in them for their elite nature, he could look at: raveners, deathwatch, stealth suits, or wolf scouts. All of those are 5 man teams (though some have an extra pet unit or two). Deathwatch especially are a close likeness to what custodes should have been last edition, and are excellent for a beginner to boot.
If it was for a different reason, the OP image that summarizes the teams is probably worth consulting.

What is the correct way to handle female priestess? Historically women weren't part of the clergy, so you don't have a lot of references to drawn from in regards to their attitude.

If gods/religion was real, obviously women would be preferred to be the one being priests.
If you were a deity of whatever the fuck, which one would you want?
Fat greasy retards?
Or pretty women (also retards)?
Plus in a world where you can invoke miracles by sheer faith alone, women would actually have an use rather than being dead weight.

Simple as that: in a world with magic women can actually be useful.
>>
>>97254880
As opposed to male priestess?
>>
>>97255022
>women in clergy was limited although not rare
That depends upon the era Anon. Deaconesses in the Early Church are well attested. While very controversial, there may have been priestesses and bishopae in the first five centuries. It's controversial as evidence is not unambiguous in identifying function as being that of deaconess rather than of priestess, lack of written records for the first several centuries, the Council of Laodicea forbidding women serving as priests occured before date of the controversial evidence, and the Second Lateran Council forbade ordination of women including to the diaconate

Note that this is a formal meaning of clergy whereas in D&D the role of cleric is informally treated as synonymous to priest. If we were to examine the situation nowadays, in the Roman Catholic Church only men may be priests and deacon is typically only ever a stepping stone on the way to priesthood, some Orthodox churches have begun ordaining deaconesses, but other churches routinely have deaconesses, presbyterae, priestesses, ministeresses, bishopae, and so on.

>>97255610
>This is very wrong. Catholicism had nunneries, sisters and Abbesses and female saints since practically the start.
That is very wrong. Not one of monk/nun, friar/sister, hermit/hermitess, abbot/abbess, cenobite/cenobitess, or saint in any way indicates the existence of any clergy let alone female clergy. Canon Law, not historically rigidly enforced, was passed requiring abbots to be priests but it was not a requirement in Canon Law, and is not required in the Rule of St Benedict, and historically lay men, not even deacons, were commonly abbots.

While a nun could be a cleric in the old days being a cleric was never a requirement for being a nun any more than nowadays a monk has to be a cleric.

tldr;
women were deaconesses from Antiquity to High Middle Ages
deacons are clergy but are not priests

>Weren't ancient greek and shinto priestess glorified cheerleaders with no real power inside religion?
That might be a bit true for Shinto since in that religion the males and females did very different things but as regards the Greeks that answer is definitely no. The role of Greek priestesses had significant overlap with that of priests and they wielded significant power both within and without their religion as well as having rights not normally available to women.

I buy there shit but I also keep saying in here almost weekly now: they are deeply unserious and unethical. Expecting them to do the "right" thing for their customers is a pipe dream

Look at the hannibal game. The two guys making it had their wives DIE around the same time and they kept going and making this game over so many years. And then of ALL the shit that just sits on p500 doing nothing, GMT pulls THAT one and send them to another publisher. The convicted child predator couldnt have taken a moment to have done right by those two when border reavers is still on p500 and they give such a ridiculous amount of spotlight time the the dogshit ARC for some reason

Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?

An asshole surrounded by assholes.

And if you read something like knights of the kitchen table, or that skit about attack the darkness, or watch The Gamers, it kind of seems like that was basically everybody who was playing.

The regular players and DMs were just playing games as usual and didn't feel the need to write or blog about it.

That's ok. You start swinging, I start shooting. I still win.

Why the FUCK is his power armor broken? The Badab War was 100 years ago. This dude leads a legion-sized band of space marine pirates and is one of the wealthiest and most powerful space marine lords in the setting, on par with chapter masters of the first founding chapters.

WHY THE FUCK WOULD SOMEONE NOT HAVE FIXED HIS POWER ARMOR. Does GW even know their own fucking setting anymore?

I've been using this model for Huron for a long time. The new one will be on 60mm, won't it?

Abaddon is on 60mm. Huron will be on 40mm like the generic lord.
If his base was 60mm he would be gigantic, picrel.

Wonder how long it takes for the size creep to catch up to Abaddon have him to start looking small despite being in terminator armor.

Its been a long time since I've played the game, but I'd say Lal, Deidre, and Miriam.

Lal was trying to keep things together. This was humanity's last chance and the mission had gone sideways the moment they arrived.

Miriam was fully aware of the transformative nature of the technologies they were developing, and raised concerns over carelessly accepting them.

Deidre didn't want to see Planet go the same way Earth did, and tried to integrate humans into Planet's ecosystem to mutual benefit.

The rest were just continuing on as normal without a care.

Colonel 'I love guns' Santiago wanted her knockoff spartans even though there was little reason or benefit to starting a war with anyone.

Morgan saw a new market. Full stop.
