Stories, art, don’t care. Post it or don’tWhite human male and orc female pairings are the key to fixing the realm
Anyone here got good orc related stories?, I would but my DM isn't a fan of orcs and prefers encounters with undead and big beasts than greenskin people so I have none nor do I feel like making up some bullshit tale either, like some anons here...
>>97215921>ERP around the tableAs much as I love a lewd orc, I wouldn't subject other players (whether I'm a DM or one of the PCs) to my orc girl fetish. I'm sure some people have some stories about being dragged off to the all-female orc rape camp, but apart from some cheeky jokes, I don't think most people have any stories worth recounting.
>>97215921Closest I got was my party getting hired to clear out some forests my a merchant (djinn who was fucking with us) who didn’t mention they were infested with beastmen and orcs and it was gonna be a lot longer than a single “get in fuck shit up and loot” job and we were bound to this thing. My Paladin led the charge into an orc camp and started going kill-crazy as his barely sentient/primal force moon maiden patron flooded him with zeal and wrath. At the same time, one the chief’s concubines, who didn’t like being a meat sock for this dink made her move and the party catches up and sees buckethead popping off and being helped by an equally berserk she-orc and the two tore the chief apart. They got along great after that, she became a recurring character and I retired that character with him and the orc leaving for the “little house on the prairie”No coomer shit, just the DM taking the cliche and playing it straight (hyper-loyal orc wife where violence is foreplay) and his way of saying my guy was more orc-like than the orc in the party

Without thinking about it, entirely subconsciously, you are trained by Pathfinder and D&D to safeguard your players. You are taught to coddle them! And when does this subconscious teaching happen? Not in ANY dungeon master resource. It happens before your first adventure, before your very first D20 roll.It happens when you create characters. In Pathfinder, character creation takes a ridiculous amount of time. I ran it for about six years, and I saw it take well over an hour, sometimes going up to two for new players. As a GM who understood the system inside and out, I could get it done in about a half hour. Losing a character in a game with such a painstaking character creation process is absolutely devastating. As a GM, you wonder if that person will bother to make a new character, or if they will just leave, and if they do, who will go with them? Will you even have a game afterwards? And enemy statblocks are the same way. You look at these massive text blocks that include three different saving throws, the type of hit dice, types and sub-types of creature, and perhaps most hilariously unnecessary, ALL SIX STATS. Who on earth looks at all that and dares think “I’ll make some monsters of my own!” Please understand, I’m not saying nobody makes their own monsters. I’m saying that it is an undertaking to make a monster with a statblock like that. Figuring out saves, stats, and heaven forbid you want to get CR correct, good luck with testing out that garbage.

That is purely a pathfinder problem though and I don't understand why so many on this board feel like they have to run it because the world is holding a gun to their head and demanding it.It's not even a very popular design philosophy. Most new systems/games that are being released are a lot less bloated in mechanics. People not wanting their characters to die isn't really due to the char creation process but rather due to not wanting to lose all the hours spent on playing it in my opinion.
Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. >>97214764>My main highlight in any game is a good tactical combat which I guess I like in savage worlds.ntayrt but adding in even an abstract tactical map with terrain tends to help when combined with other anon's aforementioned rule additions. Doesn't have to be fancy, but a visualization and outline of terrain combined with your party's objectives (and objectives for the opfor) tend to make the combat encounters more dynamic. Even with only Basic, having those and morale will make it more tactical.
>>97214695No, if you're used to 3/4e-style individual tactical positioning and hype special attacks it can easily come off as dry. Low-level combat in B/X is a primarily group-tactics affair and gets its texture mainly from the insanely high stakes of each roll (your average Fighter can easily get oneshotted by a goblin), equipment (spears and halberds let you attack from the second row; flasks of oil can be set alight and hurled), and traits of the environment such as fighting in a bottleneck passage. That said, with a competent referee you should be able to try various maneouvres like pushing your opponent back into a trap, tripping him, etc. Note that this doesn't cover the whole list of 3e+ special moves; disarms and whirlwind attacks are simply too good and will not under normal circumstances be permitted by a sensible referee.TL;DR set your expectations on the level of the combat and not the individual round or action.
>>97214736>neither they or myself really see what could be out there that is more interesting than the next level down.Yep, see, there's your problem. My advice to you would be: try to design a lair/one-shot dungeon with interesting contents, a tower for example or long-forgotten tomb. 10 keyed locations tops, contents suitable for having been there awhile undisturbed, like undead, or an immortal wizard, or robots, anything of that sort. Maybe *no* monsters, just traps. Try to make the prime loot something more interesting than gold –a sorcerous cube of pitch-black metal that functions as 1d20 bonus spell levels before being depleted, or some shit – though drop in the gold too. Chuck your lair on the map somewhere. Key the hexes in that general area so you have some notion of how the PCs might travel there and what they might trip over on the way. Next time the PCs score some loot, throw in a treasure map to that place.
>>97215585This is a bit specific (not in a bad way) but excellent advice overall: Just add interesting locations on the map and reasons to go there, even simple stuff like treasure maps.More ideas:1. Scatter services around the map. It's often a good idea to have specialists (sages, alchemists, trainers, mercenaries) be available in different towns and villages to force players to travel occasionally.2. It's also very important to implement some form of strict or loose 1:1 time and downtime play, as that introduces things to do with gold.If your players are really fixated on only going into the dungeon there's no reason to mess with them, it's their right. (1) and (2) mostly happen during downtime by definition, so they'll still be dungeon delving for the most part during actual sessions. And yes they might have some unused gold if dungeon delving is all they ever do. Not a tragedy, but do emphasise that it's their choice if it comes up.
>>97206024As a few things when I make a setting and region. I make sure to have at least 4 major cities/hubs with something you can only get there. From a Blacksmith who can make high-tier gear, a enchanter, etc. Maybe even make one of them a small town and it's known cause of them or something. So going there the only thing you can do is that.2nd when you make dungeons, BBEGs, and other major hooks I make it something that can go on without them. So if they don't take care of a goblin camp in a cave. It become a big problem for the region and where you had maybe at most 2 dozen goblins to deal with. Now it's over a 100 and have casters and they know how to fight and defend.Push downtime activities, especially for stuff at the end or beginning of a session. Maybe someone making a new weapon, crafting some potions or scrolls, training, etc. When they get back let them find out how well they did and all. So you have a reason for time to pass in the setting.Don't let players be the center of the world and let the world turn on it's own. Let things happen and be talked about that isn't about the PCs or their quests and all. You think it might be pointless but make the world feel a bit more lived in and real. Especially at lower levels.

I haven't played it, but I heard that one's pretty good if not the best way to play. His solo modes in Davins journey, bitoku and Cerebria were the exact kinds of solo modes noone needs; bloated messes in which a solo game feels like 80% bot admin/deciphering subpar iconography and 20% actual play. I think the blitzkrieg one was better but I can't fully remember. I also thought the barrage one was by him until now but apparently not>>97215445Eh, fair enough.
>>97215548Well good to know to AVOID the copy of Bitoku that's on clearance for a possible solitaire game. >>97216385I'd generally recommend staying away from bitoku tbqh. It has a great table presence and looks good, but is super fiddly, annoying to setup, very limited interaction. One of the euros that try very hard to obfuscate the fact that every action has an EV of like 1-3 vp, and even the more (mildly) exciting things you can do like buy cards follow that design. You know, ever since vicemayor Mallus Plagus took the mandate and conscripted all residents to erect the massive spire in place of the city hall, I've been thinking he doesn't have our best interest at heart.I mean, strongarming the coroner to destroy the autopsy report for the dessicated corpse of our old mayor was kind of a dick move, and after this story got published, all the media people got to be awfully quiet on that front. The horrible nightmares didn't let me sleep, but fortunately, HR noticed that it wasn't just me, and we have 30 minutes sleeping breaks at the office to increase productivity. That blond foreign lady is kind of hot, but I'm not into tattoos.
Why did 5.5e drop the ball so hard? Everyone I know who likes 5e is staying with 5.0e. And more than a few of them have moved to 3.5, OSR, or other games entirely. Is WOTC just stupid?
>>97213387>allowing a character from a different version of the rulesetI knew 5efag were mentally handicapped but this goes beyond the pale.
>>97204491Everything went to shit without Gygax.
>>97216897Easy to see how it happens. One, they keep stating that the rules are backwards compatible. Two, if you are just surface level searching for resources, pretty much everything you find nowadays without digging is going to be for 2024. If you don't know any better, then you're not going to know to specify which version. And judging by how that post is worded, the groups he is referring to are not people who know each other well enough to talk about it. So when players show up to the session with characters from all over the place, they just shrug and play on without trying to sort it out because it would be awkward
>>97216940I get how it could happen but i was lamenting about a more broad "why?". I lived in the 3.0/3.5e/pf1e shift era (so without the same widespread internet resources about the game as today, comparatively speaking), in that case the system differences are even less than 5e-5.5e but even then it was apparent (with all the people i knew who run the game) that you could cursory introduce different versions content as long as it wasn't system optimized and even then with a modicum of review and only from the DM side. Allowing a player to use a 3.0e build in a 3.5e game was considered inconceivable, the bonus stacking difference alone was glaring like the fucking sun. The absolute lack of system (baseline) knowledge 5efags have is terrifying.
>>97213382Yeah, but one person dickriding a system on /TG/ doesn't mean everyone likes it. Hell, the only thing I need to point out and did is sales for ONE DND.
