We're going to have to come up with a phrase for the new era of Warhammer 40,000 ushered in by the Amazon TV show, DoW 4 and Total War 40k, and increased market value of Games Workshop.

nu40k isn't going to cover it. nu40k is already bad enough for many of us from headier days like 1st through 4th edition. You are going to see horrific debasements to the thing you know and love that you will still see with your eyes closed. Every 80 IQ person with internet access will have an opinion on Warhammer without knowing what a Tau Remora Drone is.

I think the same writers simply change shows every season.

I watched Twsited Metal aftyer seeing some Sweet Tooth shorts, and I liked the humour. Holy shit season 1 start decent, but falls in ep4, then ep 6-7-8-9 are enclosed episodes, where the main characters spend most of their time saying 'sorry, mandatory sex scene, and a complete lack of in-universe logic , but at long as women are badass and men as wimps, it keeps getting made.
Fallout series is the same, just more crap across the board.
Whatver W40K series is made will be the same, the Imperium is bad and all that shit, yet we'll follow Imperials possibly with stereotypical Commissars and other shit. If they go 30k, then it'll be some cheap attempts at grand space opera which will fall flat due to the writers not knowing shit and not being smart.
>>
>>97349600
We do need to take the time to make sure we're all on the same about one very fucking important thing. Vin Diesel is sexier than Henry Cavill, and always will be. Even though he's not as tight and chiseled as his younger days, his fucking voice and demeanor and personality are the most ultimate expression of masculine erotica that this universe can produce, even in theory.

Crazy how a lot of the camera angles used mutated into b movie horror tropes. The close up is right out of evil dead.

>>97345214
Man, astartes was great and I loved sodaz's krieg video, but I got the feeling this was happening a while ago. The fact that every horus heresy side character that was 'badass' and would talk shit to primarchs was some sort of girlboss. The lt. Myra character in space marine 1, though I had no problem with her specifically, was a warning.

Now every remaining imperial in any sort of authority that isn't a space marine legacy character is a woman, or black, or both.

In a lot of media, the guard, hilariously, is taking the hits for what they obviously want to do to space marines. Out of the media that GW has put out, I can't think of a single heroic human white male that isn't subservient to a woman that is not a space marine. And their glands are malfunctioning or something because they're becoming increasingly minority.

That said, it was pretty funny that they were weirdly lore accurate with the salamander in that necron show only being pigmented black.

I'll probably find some way to watch the next astartes, but I gave up on everything GW after years and gave my poorly painted steel legion minis from the mid aughts to a neighbor kid to play with.

It's just a soap opera with 2019 messaging written in at this point. Looking for something else to play and trench crusade made up for all its promise by sucking even harder than james workshop.

So, is the KDS worth it now? Thinking of buying the core game + gambler's chest key, but does it come with features to actually make running the game with setup and shit easier? I've heard that the tracking for gambler's chest shit is nightmarish without scribe.

I would say that right now, playing on the simulator itself is mostly okay (moving characters, rolling dice, readability, etc). There are still a lot of bugs and whatnot (desu I don't really find it excusable, but it is a small team so I am trying to give them some grace), but for PotDK I would probably recommend using Scribe in addition to the simulator. A lot of people have brought up issues of things not writing properly to character sheets automatically, I think I've heard about showdowns also not setting up properly because it doesn't check all the appropriate cards, etc. etc.

It's not an ambush. These bandits are confident. This is their highway, or their bridge, or something else of that nature. They're here to collect their toll, and they're not above beating it out of you.

There's always the option to add morally grey elements.

Alternatively you can add wrinkles like hostages, captured beasts, magical allies, dubious identity.
It could be foreign agents trying to destabilize a region that have a barbarian lizardman they release, hidden traps all around the battlefield and the leaders surrender when loss is certain, claiming that they have a hostage that will die if they don't return

Are pocket warships able to fire their subcapital weapons on the ground? As in, would an Arondight be able to fire sub capital cannons at static targets or at hexes like artillery? Can AR-10 launchers be used as expensive missile artillery?

The Arondight still has light subcapital cannons on the sides, but does that apply if they're landed on the ground? Even if they're direct fire only.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

I like big fucking axes.
I like throwing big fucking axes.
My favourite monster is a magically animated big fucking axe that flies around on it's own.
My favourite magic spell is "I hit you with a fucking axe"
My favourite character type is a guy holding a big fucking axe.
My favourite non-weapon item or gadget is a little axe that's actually a razor/bottle opener
My favourite type of adventure involves recovering powerfully enchanted magical axes, which are guarded by enchanted flying axes.
My favourite setting is anywhere I can bring an axe.
My favourite genre is Axepunk, where the entire economy and basis of civilization revolves around making, selling and using axes to solve problems.

My adjective is "Visceral".
I can describe over four hundred distinct and variably lurid ways to kill somebody with an axe.

If I could choose Axe for a race that would be dandy, but Dwarf or Warforged is close enough.

On the subject of Traveller, how do (you) feel about ansibles?
Do you prefer your settings having inconvenient (ie. "slow") communication? Or instant transfer of information regardless of distance?
>>
I've had an idea for a more space oriented cyberpunk game brewing for a while, though I'm reminded now that 2300 exists and while I'm not super familiar with traveller that also seems like an option. So what is trav like?
>>
>>97352667
I definitely prefer the thought of a information network time gated by jump mechanics. It can create some very interesting scenarios, and it can give players an actual sort of soft currency of exchanging news when they hit out of the way spots that aren't on the major trade paths
>>
I've been interested in running Stars Without Number in a space frontier like Star Trek TOS
>>
>>97352667
Here are my rules

1. FTL travel is only possible with a real sentient person controlling the ship. Don't try brain in a jar, it backfires.

2. FTL communication inside of a solar system is possible, but only through some fairly expensive infrastructure.

3. The vast, vast majority of information is carried by courier ships who must make the FTL travel by themselves.

4. There is instant FTL galaxy-wide communications available, but only the big giant ancient asshole alien empire knows how to do it, and only those people extremely, extremely high up get to use it. This typically takes the form of pre-recorded video messages. A live holo-link with a member of the Imperial Court means someone on the other side of the call really fucked up. Humans (aka players) have access to this tech, but can only send very simple text messages, like telegrams, can be vulnerable to distortion, it's not reliable.

I like the feeling of Traveller "Age of Sail" communication, but I also want to leave myself open to other stuff.
