I feel like making something, ideally something OSR-adjacent. This is kind of an open-ended question: what RPG supplement or other cool thing does /tg/ want to see? Think something you'd pay between $3 and $5 for.

I've got some game design and writing experience. I can handle graphic design and illustration (and sound too, if relevant). I just want some input on what you think might be cool. Trying to decide what to put a little time into.

Why do traditional games seem to attract the most socially undesirable people?

Not trolling, I seriously would like to get to the bottom of this. I don't get it, tabletop games are social in nature so why do they attract anti-social weirdos, you expect these types to stay at home and video game. Why are some games MUCH worse that other when it comes to players, ie. Warhammer 40k is worse than historical Wargames, compared MtG to Chess, etc.

Is there an explanation for this phenomenon?

Palladium Games and Rifts General! /PGaRG/

The world is a broken, post-apocalyptic wasteland destroyed by the eruption of inter-dimensional portals, rifts in the fabric of space-time and ley lines which crisscross the world. In general I think I'm very picky when it comes to fantasy in general, I like fantasy, but there aren't many fantasy franchises that I like if that makes sense. The whole point of tow for gw originally was to keep selling old minis. Granted that may have changed now, but it's still going to take a while for all ranges to get updated to modern standards. Hell even aos still has armies with almost all old models left such as ogres (though I guess that is about to change. Beastmen also probably aren't a priority for gw.
If you really want up to date AND gw produced minis you could source beastmen kits from other factions, tzaangors, slaangors and soon to be pestigors, theridons in the place of minotaurs, and so on. But for a new player that may be a little overwhelming.

Tldr don't hold your breath

Have you checked 3D prints? A lot of people play with 3D printed armies and you can find amazing models out there that look better and are cheaper than GW models.

I've really been enjoying reading through Runequest, so I don't understand why it seems so underrated in modern gaming.
There doesn't really seem to be much interest in the current edition compared to early ones.
I was hoping that there could be more excitement over its potential.

NTA but books aren't necessarily support. Priority one is to play the game, not to collect a library. Books can be helpful to that end but Chaosium doesn't seem to understand what it's actually like to pick up a new game, and then they will have staff and affiliates pontificate about how people should be engaging with the game. Moreover, Jeff is on the record for saying "who has the time to pick up and learn a new RPG system" on the official Chaosium youtube channel, so clearly he has neither the sympathy nor understanding for what the modern TTRPG audience wants. They are out of touch and they're just starting to realize some 7 years later how out of touch they really are.

Mythras (was RuneQuest 6 ) has imo a more refined system than the current RQ:G and has a diverse range of settings, not tied to Glorantha. It's a better choice if you want to homebrew or you're interested in mythic Earth or Sword & Sorcery campaigns.

Chaosium recognised those difficulties and planned a new extensive hand-holdy module that gently introduced Gloranthian lore and concepts through play but all of their recent hires (rightfully?) told them that the current system doesn't hold up and with the amount of resources they're investing in it they'll literally never break even let alone turn a profit; they're planning a relaunch of the RuneQuest brand.

even without grasping the extremes of anime combat, Anima: Beyond fantasy offers plenty of combat options available to everyone
not being hit is key, since you you are attacked first and fail to evade (even of you take no damage), you cannot attack for the rest of the round. bonuses are meaningful and can draw the line between a superficial gash across the arm to having your lung jabbed. with how critical hits works (you get not crit on dice result but rather a relationship of attack-defense gap and damage produced), you can kill enemies without the need of reducing them to 0 or negative HP (that is, with optional rules, one may fight even during negative HP, albeit with a penalty)
combat depth is such that the order in which one attacks is important, since subsequent attack on the same target grants a penalty, which often lead to snowballing.

I'm a firm believer that every company gets one(1) actual honest to god unicorn; but I feel they'd better be from former RWR space or it'd be way too silly. The spicier the better. I'll start to get the ball rolling:

MTG, DnD and Warhammer are actually good for the hobby. They get new people started in this hobby and they keep the trend chasers contained and away from the rest of the hobby.

Appealing to the normie masses is a necessary evil in order to keep what you love afloat. Even if it comes with the negative baggage of doing so.

Generals are good for /tg/.

While monetizing everything can go and often does go too far, it's not wrong for people making these niche games to want to make a buck by doing something they enjoy.

There's no one-size-fits-all way to play or run RPGs, and trying to find one is folly. Narrative.heavy storygames and lethal dungein crawls are both obviously real and tre RPGs, they're both fine as long as they fit a given group's tastes, and spending time and energy arguing about what real RPGs are about is silly.

Not literally everything is political even in the current year. If you're the first one that starts talking about politics in a given discussion, then the problem isn't the other side making you think about politics, it's you.
