>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online:https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. >>97342175I was thinking of getting into it myself at one point but after a few weeks of research I was able to design an enclosure that would circulate lab grade air into even a studio apartment for less than $200, don't think it's an issue if you really want to do it
>>97342175yeah if you remove the toxic part of resin printing then w/e, just grab everything by hand, wash on the tap and clean. The problem is the constant paranoia of getting shit contamined all around
>>97342285you still need gloves, mask, care to not let resin spill anywhere, you can develop allergies even if you still do all of that, its a shit show
>>97342305Suiting up etc isn't really a big deal for me personally but it's never fun so I can see how that's a dealbreaker. Definitely handle chemicals with the respect the warning labels warrant and allergies do happen.>>97342175 >>97342291>I really wish they would focus on making demonstrably no smell safe resin>if you remove the toxic part of resinYou can't do that with the way Resin cures you'd need an entirely different compound altogether, keeping the smell is in fact a good thing because your nose is a very good early warning system that air quality is getting worse, in a lot of cases it's better than those VOC sensors because they're placement dependent.
So since we're talking about kitbashing plastic, I'm building a naval raider warband with picrel as artillery witch, death commando and trooper respectivelyAnyone got an idea on how i can kitbash a plastic annointed? No matter the range of courseKeeping in mind that for raiders I only need 2

Could have been much worse.
>>97341463And often the store just deals with it because the rent is cheap enough to survive.
>>97341332One of the few good effects of more normies getting into the hobby is that game stores are much better about enforcing some basically social norms than they were in the 90's and 00's. Back in the day a lot of neckbeardery was tolerated because these guys were vastly outspending the random normies and women they scared away. I only really smell BO at game stores now if I have make the mistake of going in during Friday night Magic.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. >>97342028For a guy who thinks his games are "real", you have a weird thing of not realizing who's doing the "real" dick slurping.Waxing poetically about sandbox play and calling it exclusively Gygaxian while you have your own dick in your mouth isn't a good look bruh.
>>97342014There's a list in DM's n00b guide in the OP.
>>97342006>>97342138Only semi-related, but I actually get a bit concerned about people who try to describe their games as "real" or "more real."Rushing right past any delusions or questions of sanity, I'm actually concerned about outdated design concepts such as GDS/GNS theory, and almost always it's just someone who is just taking everything from a heavily "Simulationist" approach. Its very easy to focus exclusively on only the positives of one of the three legs of the stool while only focusing on the negatives of the other two, which is largely why most internet arguments over GNS devolved into flame wars between people arguing which leg is the most superiorest ever, all while they sat on heavily slanted stools.

Is it possible?I like scifi as a genre because all the new tech that show us, but in terms of aesthetics, always looks like shit.Do you know any scifi RPG with good aesthetics? Even if it's just concepts, draws or artworks.PD: If someone is going to say 40k, I admit it has cool things, but I don't find it pleasant.
Super Blood Harvest is okay as a game, more sci fantasy but the entire collection is strongly art driven.
Ultraviolet Grasslands is almost entirely art directed but manages to have interesting content to go with the mobius inspirations.
The old Fading Suns game has great art in a 90s way. The new versions are standard generic rpg nothings but the older stuff has a very cohesive world, lore and art that isn't even the worst mechanically. The life path generation for it feels about right for the space feudalism casts.

>>97339776There's not really technology that does that outside of maybe some DAoT stuff or maybe some super twisted dark mechanicum item that creates an artificial warp storm or something? Interacting with the warp is more magic than science, at least in terms of what the imperium can do.
>>97339911No, anon. You have a cool idea, and canon has failed you. You know what that means? That means you can do whatever the fuck you want with it.You want human cultists, how about this - they lay down some funky planetary-scale rituals and try to turn the world into a Warp Star. Warp Stars have been canon since 6th at the latest, and I'm pretty sure I saw something about them in 4th or 5th. They have weird fucky gravity tides which can yank ships right out of the warp, last I knew, which also meshes with the weird ork interdiction field.
>>97339911>If there's no technological method, only magical, then I'll drop the idea. There's no tech as standard that'll do it in the current era, nothing mass producable certainly. But you're absolutely able to say they've got their hands on an ancient piece of DAoT tech that will. Or say there's a Mechanicus/Mechanicum priest that's created a prototype that will. Or they've physically pulled in extra celestial mass or a rogue comet/planet is passing through that's fucking with the warp lanes. 40k's a setting with an inbuilt 'do whatever the fuck you want' clause.
>>97339911Like you hinted with the orks, any kind of gravitational disturbance also interferes with the Warp. Sufficient turbulence makes it totally inaccessible.
>>97267827Trying to understand Dark Heresy 2E because one of my friends wants to run a game using the system (but in a homebrew setting). I'm coming here from RPGs like D&D, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, and GURPS. I was last running a GURPS campaign (it was a high-TL, highly cinematic game of cyborg/mutant PCs in a PMC fighting psychic aliens and magic robots), so those are the rules I am most recently familiar with. For anyone who's played both games, how do they compare?I'm reading through the rules and one thing I notice is that gear acquisition is abstract. My friend realized this also and doesn't like it, so he's trying to assign prices to everything, but he doesn't know how to do it.I'm also not sure I like the concept of Aptitudes. My friend says that he likes it, because "it'll discourage min-maxing and encourage roleplay", but I see it as the exact opposite. You're encouraged to buy up traits within your aptitudes, and if your concept calls for traits that don't match up with one of the given roles, then you're punished for that. Maybe I might just be angry because the roles given in my friend's homebrew kind of suck. For instance, I want to play a melee character (my friend knows this), but the only role with a Melee Skill aptitude is the "Technician" role of all things, and none of the homeworlds/backgrounds give Melee Skill aptitude. But he also "doesn't want to change things too much", because he's using someone else's homebrew and "doesn't want to risk unbalancing the game."Idk. Maybe this is just my GURPS brain unable to come to terms. When running that game, I would either allow a trait, or forbid it, depending on whether it made sense in the setting. Aptitudes feel like character classes with extra steps, which is the exact thing we were trying to run away from with my previous game.
Is there any way I can incorporate my fetish in my fantasy world without it becoming a magical realm?

>>97342246If your group aren't massive munchkins and use some common houserules to limit the amount of bullshit that can be accomplished then yea, it's a fun narrative game
The LOTR group here is getting back together but they voted to do Battle Companies. I can deal with this shit for a couple months over not playing at all, but I'm also afraid it will scare off newer players since it gets unbalanced quickly and leaves out some of the most fun and interesting parts of the game like monstrous attacks and the interplay between heroes and warriors. >>97341970Funnily enough I bought my first MESBG figures for use with WotR since they were pretty cheap by the late 00's when it came out.
