Takara Tomy massively fucked up how they handled English Wixoss so unless they've learned lessons from that I'm not sure they are automatically better than WOTC.
>>

Different anon here:
It sounds to me like the early game might start off a little slow, or poor luck in your opening hand could cause the equivalent of being mana screwed in Magic. To combat this, you could have a generous mulligan rule, or as an option, you could let players 'go gravedigging' on their turn, sacrificing all other actions to, for example, turn the top 5 cards of their deckinto their graveyard. It kind of reminds me of the 'Exert' rule from the old Highlander TCG. Alternately, you could always just start the game with X amount of cards in your graveyard. I dunno, just a few options to consider.

Grim.
>>
>>97264194
How is that grim?
>>
>>97264200
The first post they quoted is self-evidently grim and there were multiple replies explaining why. Can/do you read?

The second and third are a little harsher but I understand. It is pretty grim for someone to want to get into a miniature game but want (or have) to be like, "I can't buy any miniatures though." Use numbered tokens at that point instead of standees. But this is grim because of a society that leaves people too poor to buy miniatures, above all else.

>disconnect between player expectations of balance (that every option should be relevant and fairly well-balanced against each other)
curse those insane, unreasonable player expectations!
it has fuck all to do with design intent, cmon. GW not playtesting sufficiently isn't a new phenomenon. in 40 years they've released a grand total of zero games where the internal balance wasn't blown to shit. (which isn't to say they have made no great games, but you usually need 10+ years of post-oop community patches before you have anything that could be called "balance" with a straight face) they don't care now and they didn't much then either.
>>
>>97264514
I meant the second conversation point. Using paper stand-in is ok. And noone needs to be able to buy minis. It is sad when someone cant afford them, but they are not that important to not use paper minis.

I'd like to think the logistics of Dracula unhinging his jaw to be able to bite through solid steel with his ultra diamond-tipped drill bit death fangs are a bit abused, but it does seem kind of silly that a werewolf can just force 3 inch keratin daggers through an equivalent steel door despite being superhuman, but then again WoD has never been terribly good on specifics.

My read on the game was that you were always meant to swing the mortals to your side, Immaculate or no. Most of them aren't even actively brainwashed. They only talk to normal, local priests and go through entirely mundane rituals. Meanwhile they're getting absolutely butfucked by the realm's shitty society.
>>
>>97264569
You just don't get it Goblinblooded, when a man starts glowing gold and rides up to your doorstep on his silver catgirl gf (who is currently in the shape of a horsegirl) and declares that he's returned to bring the righteous justice of the sun to defend and protect the innocent. It just awakens something, even if he has no Presence Charms.

It's like Kamen Rider. You have to be there.

>>
>>97264783
3e is more constrained in a lot of areas, at least in terms of how you interact in a practical manner. Like if you go toe to toe with a Solar, he's more than likely going to beat your ass at actually achieving the goals you set out to do. However, you do things in a weird, wacky woohoo way that tends to inflict collateral (literally or figuratively) in place of sheer effectiveness. You do have a few really interesting trump cards that are harder to deal with, but you're no longer changing the type of game that's being played.

I don't remember any of the signatures

On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?

Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

Fundamentally, that the mechanics are the 'standard fare', combat goes roll+mods vs static+mods, then roll damage (with mods), and I haven't seen anything different from the usual for out of combat stuff.
I know that I'm picky as shit about rpgs, but for my group this would raise the question of... why are we even playing this, and not just taking the setting and using a system that we all already know well?

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

>>
Any good quick gadgeteering rules outside the ones in Basic Set? I'm looking for something with less GM fiat, and less reliance on $ value for deciding skill penalties
>>
>>97264753
Here's what I do, with my slightly adjusted crafting rules from low tech:
>Your man-hour is worth $10.
>Your man-day is worth 75$
>Your man-week is worth 525$
>Quick Gadgeteer: If you have the quick Gadgeteer advantage, multiply your man-time by 100.
>You must have 20% in cost of the raw materials, then keep adding man-hours and man-days until you got the full price, then make a skill check.
>If you have materials worth more than the minimum 20% you may use those to reduce the amount of time spent with man-hours.
Example: Edgy Rapier costs 900. 900*20%=180 so you have 180$ worth of iron first, and then add 75$ every day until you reach 900, so it would take around 9 days to craft it. If you had the quick gadgeteer, your man-hour would be worth 1000$, allowing you to craft the rapier in a single hour!

I liked the 'masquerade' element of it. The masses should not know about the Gods. This is, of course, something that could very well change during the course of the story your players are telling, but at a base level, the Gods should be underground and subsisting off what are essentially worship scraps while they get their scions to do things for them in mortal world.
>>
>>97263453
Fair take. The masquerade's orders of magnitude superior if the devs aren't willing to go all in and actually change things up and engage with the concept of the gods being real and being active.
>>
>>97262932
>Chosen
The self-made man. You were such a natural badass that you impressed a God into feeling kinship with you, that they made you their Scion. Or you were raised in a cult. It’s 50/50.
>Born
You’re only special because your Divine Parent was horny. Not bad, just typical.
>Incarnated
Ironically, the most “Chosen One” origin. You’re special because you actually are that deity. How original.
>Created
Your whole reason for existence is because your Divine Parent wanted a Scion, but they either
>Are an autist
>Get no bitches
>Hates zoomers
they opted to make you from scratch instead. You are fundamentally a pawn. I mean, all Scions are, to varying degrees. But this Origin is the most explicit.

>In the game Werewolf: The Apocalypse, the Garou (werewolves) were made to defend the earth from the cosmic forces that threaten to tear it apart. The Garou fight against the Wyrm, the destroyer. It is a struggle against nearly insurmountable odds, especially considering the rivalry between many tribes. These rivalries make it almost impossible for the werewolves to present a unified front against a cosmic force that pervades reality.
>From this morass of hatred and mutual betrayal, there is little hope that the Garou can emerge triumphant against a foe so well armed as the Wyrm. The Wyrm promises money, power, sex, and whatever else the heart desires to its followers while the Garou receive no reward for their striving. It drives them deeper and deeper into despair, or into betrayal so deep that they choose to serve the Wyrm instead.

I dont think that they recast every old mini. Some sculpts are probably lost since they dont got their hands on unassambled parts.
Or are so rarely ordered that it doesnt make sense to have the molds for it.

Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?

>>97264739
When it comes to John Wick, I assume that he's not intentionally lying about the contents of his games, just about how much his players enjoyed his chicanery. And I'm basing this primarily on the fact that the Scorpion Clan in L5R, aka the backstabbing bag of dicks clan, were his favorite and supposedly at least one named one was his personal player character. That and most of his tall tales are of him using railroading and rule abuse to fuck over PCs, which is generally on par with most narcissistic or power-abusive GMs in general. He's not unique in that regard.

Stjerneborg with another 10k and a revival effect gives Astroea a consistent beater that synergizes with bifrons, good shit but it aint getting the deck out of tier 3. could've also been adjusted for Crowind since binding a rearguard would be nice for that deck

For people that play games in-person, what props do you use? Just plain grid paper or anything more elaborate? Minis?

The polearm master d4 attack gets the damage stat bonus?

>When you take the Attack action and attack with only a glaive, halberd, quarterstaff, or spear, you can use a bonus action to make a melee attack with the opposite end of the weapon. This attack uses the same ability modifier as the primary attack. The weapon's damage die for this attack is a d4, and it deals bludgeoning damage.
>Immediately after you take the Attack action and attack with a Quarterstaff, a Spear, or a weapon that has the Heavy and Reach properties, you can use a Bonus Action to make a melee attack with the opposite end of the weapon. The weapon deals Bludgeoning damage, and the weapon's damage die for this attack is a d4.

>class heavily encourages becoming a rat farmer so you can have a source of food
2d8 healing+level as a bonus action seems very balanced
