>>97221505>nobody takes SwimmingUnfortunately, 99.99% to 100% of every game is on solid land, so the moment water pops up, might as well be lava since no one is geared for it. Naturally, if it was advertised beforehand that there was gonna be water sections, that's the player's fault for sure
>>97234263I make a list of recommended skills. Swimming is on that list. I have had water come up in multiple campaigns. Usually in the form of islands, but one time even had them approach an oil rig via underwater sled. Despite this less than a quarter of my players have ever taken swimming.
>>97233784>No, Shadowrun is the one game it doesn't really work forNonsense. Substantiate your claim.gurps magic as powers or RPM or hell even basic magic > shadowrun magicgurps cybernetics as powers > shadowrun cybernetics, with the only caveat is that you don't have a good guideline for converting point cost to cash prices, but you can infer a good guideline from metatech.gurps combat >>>>>>>>>>>> shadowrun combatgurps gear and wealth system > shadowrun gear and wealth system>>97232847>can run this in gurps better than an existing systemThe answer to this is almost always yes, however. The rest of your post is just saying that it takes more work for the GM, not that the system is better.
>>97234263>>97234416Keep in mind what skills like that represent. Most people can't swim well enough irl to be at non-default.
>>97234423>Nonsense. Substantiate your claim.NTA but I've always felt the same. Most of the time when people talk about specific systems having "flavor" they're full of shit, but in the case of Shadowrun I just can't divorce the setting from the system like that. Something about it fits it's use case in a way GURPS, or anything else, does not.

>>97234592>>97234600We've got at least 1 person who still believes in jolly cooperation CoS working on the inside of gw. There's hope bros.>>97234633There's no problem, just not the direction they've taken CoS lately. The army used to be the dumping ground of several kits from very different whfb armies (empire, dorfs, all 3 varieties of elves). In lore this was justified as the major order races working together to survive the shit the mortal realms can throw at them. Very cosmopolitan. In their recent 3rd edition refresh however, CoS lost a lot of these units, the high and wood elves werw gone completely, empire and dorfs still have rules but are only sold for tow now. All the new lore and kits were very human-centric. Turning CoS more into fantasy imperial guard than their own cosmpolitan mix of early AoS. So it's an unexpected but pleasant surprise to see gw show off an army working on exactly that premise.
>>97234701>We've got at least 1 person who still believes in jolly cooperation CoS working on the inside of gwThat's an old army made for the first battletome, it's irrelevant for any ongoing or future direction.

>>97234139I'm being super frank with you, we've seen this coming early on, the game isn't a game anymore, it's a collectible only. FFG has so much talent and a history of running amazing games, they erected a cardboard empire once. Not only that, they kept an entire industry propped up in the US for decades. Ready for the bitter pill? That was before. Now they are a dried up husk of their former selves. They bow to corporate greed and shareholders only now. There's no coming back, they sold their soul to the green devil. You're better off forgetting SWU even existed as a game. Nothing good will come of you sticking around to support the game you once loved. I hope this message doesn't crush your spirit but relieves it of the anguish of never knowing what's going to happen. I have loved many games by FFG, but I love myself more now to know it's of little use clinging onto a deceased corpse of a board game maker, hoping that it will rouse again to reclaim its throne. You're much better off moving on now. So be free. Try new things.

>>97222828>Sure. More the former than the latter though. There are a few options and I'll leave Marquette when everyone else in the community is packed and on the road.I'll do two readings; simple three-card one, and a larger one, more complex, with a bit of extra ritual bullshit. That one will take more time to prepare, because I'd prefer to ward myself against the thing or its theoretical owner looking back at me in response for me looking at it.Nine of Cups - Upright. Wishes come true; dreams come true; celebration of how good you have it.Queen of Cups - Reversed. Emotional instability; immaturity; self-centeredness.Five of Pentacles - Reversed. Chaos and hardship, in past tense; recovery; restoration from misery. An interesting initial reading; for really complex things they can be sometimes wrong or difficult to interpret, or intently sabotaged by somebody capable of misdirecting scrying. Equally, though, sometimes the cards punch through defences, so I'll cautiously presume they're not very wrong, for now. My first guess is that the cards suggest something like this:>Nine of Cups - UprightThe Tzimmy-Thing is in contentment; its hiding is not a sign of weakness or of nurturing itself, but an end goal for the Tzimmy-Thing. It is where it wants to be.>Queen of Cups - ReversedThe Tzimmy-Thing is not quite mentally all there. >>97234495Combat Patrol sucks, but if the main studio figured it out with Spearhead, maybe? It would probably still have to rely on some non-shitty boxes formatted in a specific manner if there had to be an audience, mind. If each faction had a Combat Force box that came with a good amount of weapon options be it by themselves or with an upgrade sprue tossed in, and maybe some plastic character that can be configured into different ones, there could be a decent amount of variation offered. I think the latter is the main bottleneck since they're nearly all resin, but you could go 'this many dudes with special guns', 'this walker with these guns', 'this consul with the funny banner' and so on to represent either multiple pseudo-Rites of War or some customized permutation of one with just one box. That said, it would still need multiple.

Do you prefer systems with a strict class-based martial/caster division or classless systems that allow anyone to dip into anything at the cost of never being great at it?

She does hunting and combat with a crossbow her dad taught her to use, and is pretty stealthy. My wife has learned to fight with a sword and shield from the old war veteran who lives in the village, in order to help defend against bandit raiders while the majority of men are out fighting in the war. Currently, they are investigating a group of bandits that have taken over the local iron mine. They already assassinated the leader of the bandits who camped at the shrine to a forgotten forest spirit. They cleaned the shrine and my daughter was granted limited use of a version of the entangle spell through an amulet. The bandit leader had a book on breathing exercises for fighters that resulted in the Second Wind ability for my wife. These new abilities will be a big deal if they end up fighting the bandits head-on, or running away for that matter. Yes, I could call my wife's character a fighter and my daughter's a ranger... But where's the fun in that?! My wife keeps ambushing people and stabbing them in the back if she can... So she might develop sneak attack at some point. And if she somehow
>>97229035Letting people build their own characters inevitably leads to metagaming. The correct answer is to ask your players what they want to play, and then building the specifics of the characters yourself so that all characters are equally minmaxed, and then I lay allowing character advancement based on what the characters have been practicing in the game. The guy who only talks and never swings a sword doesn't get better at swordplay as he gets more experienced. The less control players have over the mechanics of their characters the objectively better the game will be
Holiday EditionDiscuss and post elves. Elf lore, gameplay, and art are all appreciated.QOTT: What are some of the best gifts to give elf-lovers? What gifts would you give to lovers of other races/species/ancestries/whatever?
I've been inspired by Dwarf Fortress recently and like the idea of elves being the total nature related race (nothing new here), but part of that includes not using any metal tools or weapons; instead using magically formed wood or bone or whatever else. I'm just not sure if it really fits the "high elf" aesthetic of being masters of various crafts or if it's too unrealistic.
This thread makes me wish I had plans to play an elf pc at some point soon, but it will be months before I can do so.I have 1 human, 1 dwarf, 1 dhampir lined up, unless one of them dies.... anyone got a pic of a fire magic using elf? Not too flashy in garb?

>>97232863based
>>97232932What are you confused about?
>>97232863I dunno man I'd withhold all that opinion for after session 3. A DM might have put all his work elsewhere at first and then collides with his noobism and has to repair that between sessions.
>>97230596The true judge of such a DM is if you point out a rule that you know is in the game that he doesnt know of. Does he accept it and let you use it, does he just say no and carries on with his lobotomised version, or does he maim or kill your character in the next adventure as revenge or to regain dominance over you?
>>97234155None of those answers are correct. The CORRECT answer is to ask the player citing the rule where the rule is in the rulebook, check the rules to make sure it's actually there AND actually does what the player is claiming, and then make a decision on whether or not to include that rule in your game. A truly *good* GM will say words to the effect of "I'm going to use this/not use this right this moment, but consider this ruling non-binding so I can have time to think about how this might affect the game in the future and I'll make a binding call over whether to include this rule at a later time." Making snap judgements at the table on whether to include a rule you'd hithertofore missed is never a good idea, and a good GM will make a ruling right there in the moment, but will fully consider the ramifications of that rule in a more stable environment, and the players should accept that the GMs ruling at the table may not be final.
To preface, I'm an MTG veteran. My first Precon was Coven Counters in 2021 and I've been an EDH player ever since. After years of playing, I think the WUBRG elemental may just do me in. Gimmick synergy, tribal, a real throw in anything somewhat related type of commander potential. It also has the most forced WUBRG ability to date: being able to pay WUBRG in order to keep an Elemental you Evoked is utter bullshit. It completely defeats the purpose of Evoke and is just a continuation of "drop a set, put whatever you want under 1 commander."I hate it, you hate it, and it's just a slap in the face of previous WUBRG Legendaries that tried to be something more than tribal or gimmick synergy, or just cram some WUBRG ability in last second, such as [[Atogatog]] [[General Tazri]] [[Golos, Tireless Pilgrim]] [[Jodah, the Unifier]] [[Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile]] [[Morophon, the Boundless]] [[Najeela, Blade Blossom]] and [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] . And I'm missing a shitton of other WUBRG Legendaries that could be Commanders. But let's look at the new WUBRG Legendaries that could be Commanders (hint: they're all tribal, gimmick synergy, or cram in a WUBRG ability last second): [[Avatar Aang]] [[Cosmic Spider-Man]] [[Hei Bai, Forest Guardian]] [[Heroes in a Half Shell]] and [[Infinite Guideline Station]] .As long as WotC keeps dropping cards like [[Horde of Notions]] , MTG will die very soon and for real this time.
