>generic "you are a sorcerer summoning monsters" backdrop
>generic spell cards like "fire ball" or "cold mist"

>regular ass lands like "ocean" or "forest" and like 12 different categories of them
This game was maybe 1/4 baked at best
>>97242868
Oh yeah how could i forget, basically every card is a massive wall of text and 90% of the """meta effects""" were "wear a silly thing". Oh and there was a limit on meta items you were allowed to use, and combo items counted as seperate things, so if you need something orange on the table and a plant in your FoV, bringing a pumpkin counts as 2 items.

Is that origin no longer canon?
Really?

Jesus Christ, can't GW focus on writing horrible, inept continuations to their lore instead of disambiguating and shitting up the foundations of their setting.
At least that way I can soundly ignore all the stupid shit they ham-fistedly introduce.

Blagh, I do not want this knowledge.

I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.

>they're a reflection of the physical universe made manifest in the Warp

The chaos gods are made from emotions the same way you are made from rocks. Are you made up of the desires of rocks? Kind of, because you need to take in certain vitamins and minerals to stay functional. But you are more than the sum of your parts.

The chaos gods are not "enigmatic physical forces that are a natural proces" like the Fabius Bile cope. They are actively sentient, sapient and sadistic. They do things just because it is entertaining, funny or as revenge. They have desires.

Considering 11th is keeping the Index I would say they are a safe bet for staying an army in 11th, however they will continue to have AoS / Forgeworld kits stripped from them so their playability will likely be reduced even further.

That said they are one of the strongest armies in the game right now and that likely wont change in 11th, with a couple successful archtypes like Tzeentch gambling, Monster Mash with Belakor and 3 Lords of Change, and the full khorne and full slannesh armies are pretty decent too.

slaanesh daemons were briefly the best army in the game earlier this year
daemons generally tend to be very gimmicky and one-note while also being very hard to play which severely restricts their popularity

Casters (playing 5e 2024) seem to be very versatile, like the bard who can provide THP, debuffs to enemies, buffs to the team, field control (I assume this means temporarily neutralizing several enemies?), weaken enemies, heal, scout, and be useful for dodging incoming fights.
How do you balance a full caster with all of these abilities? Do they have a bit of everything, focus on some and discard others?
And with respect to this, do all fullcasters specialize more in some of these approaches or are they all a bit of everything?
thanks
>>
>>97260717
Have you tried telling them that you're all experiencing a story and that their job as players is to allow interesting things to happen rather than micromanage the fun out of things like an actual lawyer?

NO WE MUST WIN AND BE EFFICIENT AND OPTIMIZE DPR
>>
>>97261535
Some casters are better at some things than others, yes. Getting a good pool of abilities is often just a matter of recognizing what the best spells for certain tasks are, and only doubling up when necessary.
It's also useful to see what the other casters in your party have taken, so that you're not all doubling up on similar spells.

If you're a newer player and you're worried, I'd recommend picking a Warlock and then asking your DM for advice. Spellcasters can be a lot to manage, and Warlock is the easiest way to get a feel for it.

They evolved with hemocyanin instead of hemoglobin. Given the sorts of creatures with that type of blood on earth, we can thus conclude that these are in actual fact sexy clam girls.
>>
>>97259986
I stole a plot point from StarCraft for a sci-fi game using the old Shadowforce Archer Spycraft rule set.

The OG precursor race had genetic memory (each one had all the memories of their bloodline back to the beginning) and were dying out from Reasons, but created two inheritor races. One was humanity, the other was the not!Asari/not!Twi'lek/not!Orion race. Each was designed to include an "explorer gene" in part of the population and thus to develop the desire to seek spaceflight and to reach out across the cosmos like adventurers in human history, with the (unknown to them) goal of one day meeting the race designed to be compatible with them as their other half, designed to appeal to each other on a genetic level as sexually attractive, and thus to fuck like rabbits, where after a couple of generations the precursors would have bodies to be reborn in from recombining the DNA of each.

All other alien races are not cross compatible, and people have recently been looking into why there is one exception. It played into the main narrative for a while, but the game fell apart when a couple of the players got deployed overseas. I hadn't decided whether the Precursors were evil or not.

Alien interface organism.

Basically, aliens use custom printed biomorphs instead of space suits, when you come to a new planet its easier to simply copy the template of the existing local life forms and use whatever THEIR evolutionary optimizations are for the local environment than it is to try and solve all of those problems yourself on short notice to keep your true self alive on a planet wildly different than what you were evolved for. If you are a methane-ocean jellyfish creature, life on the surface of the Earth is never going to work very well without massive life support systems and robotics. So instead of that, you whip up a human/jellyfish creature hybrid thats human enough to survive on Earth but jellyfish alien enough that its compatible with your brain patterns and then download yourself into that to walk around on Earth and talk to humans with.

if you are going to do this anyway, you naturally would also design the interface organism to be as broadly attractive as possible to the species you are communicating with, making it more likely that you will be accepted and treated favorably. There are almost never downsides to being considered hot.

So what do aliens talking to humans end up as? Different varieties of space babes. Space hunks might *seem* like an option, but male humans are more likely to feel intimidated by a sexy space man, so that's counter-intuitive to the purpose of the interface.
>>
>>97259986
In that specific example, it's implied they project a mental effect that makes them attractive to whoever is looking at them (since different aliens claim they have traits humans can't see). Tho even in that it's implied they mostly humanish

Writing General: 'festive' edition

Welcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product.

As the successor to the Storythreads, we're also open to /tg/ related fanfiction (D&D, Warhammer, Battletech, whatever). In fact, if you've written any vaguely /tg/-related short stories, you can try them out here. We also have flash-fiction challenges from time to time.

There's a discord for writers here
https://discord.gg/6AwKHGF

The previous thread can still be found in the archive here
>>96644454

And finally an archive of /tg/ fiction can be found here:
http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Storythread (dead link, but may be resurrected one day)

1 . It would have been a stronger choice if the secluded mountain people ran counter to expectation, and were not barbaric, unlike the city types. If you don't like that trope, consider how they would actually realistically live. They wouldn't need Paladin lawful ways of handling beefing, when they have a convenient temple of muscle bound JoJos literally up the hill. It would be very much within bounds and further plot for outcome of duels to be decided by the Monks instead of fought next to granny's hovel, send the knight up the road and killed off screen by the thing Rotwood fights with ease type of deal- arrange the result of an uneven match without having to waste time showing it. To make my beef clearer, dropping bodies next to folks that can't keep wildlife off their backdoor would create tangible problems for the community, and they would either find a method to mitigate it or else they die drawing man eaters wantonly. Wild hunt thing unremarked upon, because it's more interesting to think of that enclave as cannibalistic.

2. Maybe the lemminglike petal knights could buck programing and not go off the cliff one after another. It would be interesting if she did convince them she is there just to study ecology like the villagers said, and does it. Either given clemency and act up at a bad time where as a minor threat she has impact, or as an innocent she makes a final boss fight minor thing appear much larger with her death showing how fatal this non-threat is, like the nightmare shadows you choose not to do anything satisfying with. Have Rotwood appear to be paranoid for no reason, then justify him. Is he going senile with delusions of self importance, is it a fable, no he's really a bbeg of someone else's story, now he gets to throw his weight around without holding back- great. Tangible impact. A punishment for leniency, paranoia becomes justified- literally anything. As is, we only know that thought crimes are real, the ghost said so.

>oops, dropped pic. guess I'll yell at you more so I finish with one

3. It took a long time for him to do his little stunt. If it wasn't important nor interesting enough to let the sacrifice speak before you killed her, then don't pomp on the encounter at all. You hang on this moment like it has future impact, it's a non sequitur. I waited for when it would come up again, didn't. A free idea; make the immoral group of munchkins work together exactly once, for how to kill her in the quickest way to go on with their romp in the trees. Maybe show how Farstride doesn't 'play well with others' by her handling this without Rotwood's blessing. Have her do something heinous breaking our idea of what a lifegiver is supposed to be, show don't tell us that she's capable of it, as a clue of what's to come with her turning traitor so we care about that more when it happens. A concrete example, lifer rewires petal knight's eyes so she can't see Rotwood. Fantastical, horrific, the reader becomes aware of the threat lifers possess. Say something with the death or don't, but don't undercut your own characters and what you build them up to be for shock factor alone, it's cheap. You show what you're capable of doing to tell a story and undercut the story.

Overall, there are no stakes, no reasons for anything. Reveal of ascension doesn't matter. You had an interesting thing you wanted to do with the moon which was cute, cool when I squint and don't overthink it's fever-dream execution.

The book is dipped over in marvel quality 'witty' banter and cynicism of itself. Like, you started teasing out plot for the next book by loudly exposition dumping into the face of a homeless dude then killed him. I wanted to strangle you again because I know you did it to be tasteless, after a hit of the funny. It aint. There are some things you don't see often because it's a novel idea, other times it's this. On the plus side God got to see his favorite animal, whoopie.

Is YGO still the second most popular TCG in Japan (behind Pokemon)?
>>
>>97261153
Yes but only because Bushiroad doesn't consolidate all of their players into one game.
>>
>>97260291
Most older formats have significantly less skill expression than standard but if you mention this around Edison players they'll seethe for weeks.
>>
>>97260859
Then it's the latter case.
>Format isn't solved
>Meta is exactly 8 decks
I'm going to say that this is close enough to be the former though.
>>
>>97261702
It should be noted that out of those 8 decks most of them have variants. Gadgets has a T.G. variant and a Machina variant, The Agent has a pure variant and a T.G. Variant. Decks that make use of the Plant Engine (Lonefire/Bulb/Spore/Dandy) have multiple variants from Junkdoppel to Lightsworn Plants and Dark Plants, HERO Beat can be played with either Thunder King Rai-Oh as the focus or maxing out Bubblemans to perform quick XYZ plays. Six Samurai has a variant that abuse Ascetism or one that is a better suited for longer games that capitalizes on Yaichi and Hand. Dark World can be played with a focus on draw spells to use Virus and win from the advantage they provide or another one that is more appropiate for grind games.

Due to horses going extinct, the Janissaries wiped out their Timar rivals. Every Sultan in the past two hundred years has been installed by the Janissaries who keep him around as a stooge. Anon you need to lose weight it impacts every aspect of your health. People around you won't say it for the sake of propriety, but we are all anon here so I have no problem telling you that you will lose years of your life if you do not make serious and permanent lifestyle changes. You can do it.

Reread the thread. That sentiment was expressed many times over even if not in those exact words.

For Christmas my mother, knowing I like TTRPGs but am slightly intimidated by the idea of mini painting, bought me a bunch of miniatures that are really cheap and shitty so I could practice my first paint jobs.
I consider it the most thoughtful she's ever been about one of my hobbies, generally she'd just kind of let me do my own thing and didn't really care about what I'm doing in my free time as long as I was staying out of trouble.
I baked her fresh brownies as a Christmas gift and bought her and her sister a weekend trip to a cabin like she's been saying she wants.
