You don't really need a basic kit if you already have paints, the GW paints you do have should tide you over as you replace the colors you need with new ones gradually. Unless you wanna just hard swap, but that can be expensive and only do it if you wanna.

can you explain how this would cause stylistic differences? the one thing I can think of is the attention span it requires. with airbrushing you need to budget enough time to at least do a single color for the entire kit or it's a waste of getting everything ready, but with brush painting you can work for 15 minutes or 5 hours and it doesn't make much difference.

Buy whatever you can get locally so you can buy the ones you need. Sticking to one paint brand is a meme, every range has their good and their bad performing paints. Paint bottles have just as many problems as paint pots do, just different. A gw paint pot never erupted paint like a volcano.

Oh don't get me wrong, Anon, in terms of setting concept I have no trouble understanding it, although for me personally the divine bloodline stuff conflicts with how I'd want a low fantasy medieval setting to work. frightened is one of those "penalizes literally everything you do", being frightened reduces your attack, your AC, your saves, everything. Something like No Cause For Alarm is kind of ass, but if you have an ally who is frightened 2 or 3, using something to reduce that by 1

You have correctly identified that most of the time a lot of the more situational +1/-1 shit is stupid and lame, while the stuff that applies to the most common checks (or just the most shit in general) is usually what ends up good. Bard's being able to just slap a +1 attack on the entire team is evergreen.

Fortitude and reflex, anon. Bring able to use them at all against larger creatures, with a skill based on a nominally well used attribute (and a bonus besides) actually works well in your favor.

Alright, that's good to hear then. I can believe that the degrees of success can make those small modifiers more impactful in practice than my common sense would gut-react for d20 rolls (since I know objectively it's more complicated than "+1 = 5% more likely to succeed" and probably more like "+1 = 20% likely to bump you up a success level"). Just gotta focus on the modifiers that are general like that instead of "on Tuesday during a full moon."

Unfortunately this is still paizo and they love printing endless dogshit, which makes how generally fun and solid the foundation is really frustrating. Very manageable from the GM side though, and if you have a consistent circle you can probably accumulate optional rules or houserules to taste. I don't think you have to play RAW to understand how things work for when you change it, but doing so drastically reduces the time it takes.

Having a look at it now and considering options:
Rogue Trader's ability to pull wargear cards (minus character specific) from anywhere could definitely make things interesting if you want to really tool them up in a weird way. Or just an unexpected combo. But it's also just very handy for characterful bits.
The Preacher character could be quite interesting, cheap and comes with a conversion field (handy blinding effect in some cases) and a wargear card so you can probably do something cheeky with that but also just have them for utility.
They get some cheap scouts which is good for just a variety of things even if they're not particularly killy being only humans.
And for the general wargear list; no power fists and no power armour in general wargear is interesting but you do get shuriken pistols and catapults which are always nasty, could be given to a character.

You don't get many Rogue Trader specific units, and I would want to take them and tool them up a bit for flavour, and definitely make use of the support weapons, but I think the bulk of a force would be cherry picking some bits from the Imperial Guard, Space Marine armies and agents, like grab a tooled up assault squad or some veterans with an autocannon for a really solid adaptable core unit, or maybe some stormtroopers, an assassin, that kind of thing, use a bunch of tarantulas for the heavy weapons...

It's kind of difficult to think what'd work really well together with so many options on hand but there's bound to be some good ones. But also potentially a little too specialised, a lot of the army is still (unless you really lean into the Marines part) basic humans and will need some fodder to screen the specialist units. Maybe thinking of it like a guard army with a bit of extra edge/space marine allies is the key? Assuming you focus on taking all the optional Rogue Trader specific units that is. Lot of options.

Heretical charms are silly and unneeded as a concept because Infernal Charms being literal Yozi Charms is stupid, they should be Yozi Charms in the vein that they're influenced by said Yozi.
Also I don't like Devil-Tigers. Infernal charms being literally Yozi charms is just a fluff thing if you think about it. More like a thematic framing you're supposed to follow rather then anything else. You don't want Ebon Dragon charms that make people happy and spread love, that sorta thing. Letting Infernal charms be a mix of two yozis "themes" pretty much opens up infinite homebrew while allowing you to keep a really simple to understand framework. If that like, makes sense?

For the Devil Tiger stuff, eh. I like it and don't like it at the same time. The fluff is fun, I like the idea of becoming something "more". The Primordials and Yozi might be chumps but at least they have really cool ass powers. Radioactive green fire is just awesome. Same with evil shadow clone no jutsus. Plus it lets you show off a homebrew exalted type, people love that shit. It's why Exigents are so cool even if the lore is a bit lacking (which I disagree with, but w/e.) It's just neat and it offered an alternative to the Reclamation stuff which I thought just had way too much focus. Also some people just really want to fuck a Yozi. It's not something explainable, they just want a Yozi waifu. Imagine that Ebussy. Basically there are a lot of reasons.

Exalted never came across to me like that. The First Age is a mystery but calling it a better age just feels wrong. It was bad enough and the solars were evil enough that the Sidereals were willing to do some crazy shit to get rid of them. And people were so tired of their shit that they helped. It's more like, a cycle? The Primordials had their age, they were evil gits and fell. Solars had their time, they were evil gits, they fell, ectect... A more technologically advanced age would be better I guess, I dunno. 2e made it a boring sci-fi setting and it was garbage so I hope 3e does better, if they ever get into real detail with it.

Had an idea for a Shotgun Summoner once.
Take the end barrel of a shotgun and have the circle of a summoning spell inscribed on it and the shotgun fired slugs that had the sigils of the particular being you were summoning etched onto them. So you would fire and the moment the slug passed the barrel, the being was summoned. Flying forward at 1300 feet per second screaming at its target.

My settings magic ended up getting so complicated it needed me to make a wiki and give it a page. In short though,in the setting theres the physical plane - and the astral plane which invisibly overlaps it. In the astral plane, ideas take the form of a sort of mist, with denser concentrations of ideas becoming thicker and even changing states of matter in some cases.

Some ideas are more powerful than others, namely if they are attached to powerful entities (such as "nuclear bomb") or connect to many other ideas as a root (such as "destruction" tying to "death", "pain", "darkness", "purity", etc.) Magic of any kind is when you take ideas from the astral plane and actively use them for an effect.

Spells are large strings of ideas brought together, and are usually shortened verses of a larger prayer or poem. The poetry itself makes the phrasing easier to remember (poetry is meant to be spoken after all), and also allows for more subtle explanations of ideas to be said in fewer words by relying on the reader's understanding. You could theoretically detail every elemental step involved in making a fireball, but its a lot quicker and memorable to remember a bible verse than a 20-step cooking recipe without a book.

Souls are themselves collections of information (for example human, male, womanless, penniless, a10 eyes) detailing every detail about yourself. Your body creates lots of magical energy due to all the concepts in it, regardless of if youre aware of it or not. If you can awaken the chakras in your soul (through traumatic life experiences and/or personal growth), you can cast spells or temporarily remove them to use astral projection (a la jojo stands).

Or you can just ingest sentient hallucinogens that temporarily awaken your chakras to make deals with powerful magical entities and have them do stuff for you

WWIII in Trek seems to have been a standard ideological split. The West, presumably, versus Eastern Coalition. Before then the largest social issue we're aware of is the huge inequality issue that lead to the creation of Sanctuary Districts, but those were solved, more or less, before WWIII broke out thanks to Gabriel "Sisko" Bell. However the aftermath of WWIII, at least immediately, wasn't what lead to the rise of Starfleet and a united Earth. We're way too early yet for Colonel Green's purges of the "impure" but here we are.

Ultimately the turning point was thanks to Zephram Cochran's warp flight and first contact. WWIII was still instrumental, and I don't mean for the recycled ICBM used for the Phoenix. I mean humanity still trying to find their way from that tragedy only to discover they weren't alone in the galaxy and the effects of the Vulcans in general. I'm sure their peacenik ways helped. Probably helped a lot with humanitarian efforts, even if they were a bit stingy with tech assistance.

If we're getting really pedantic, are there any examples of people in Trek getting thrown into the future from their perspective through time dilation? Technically, they would be however many years older from the perspective of those in the time they landed, and they would had spent it all in a conscious state.

Utility of fireball (or any damage-dealing AoE) will depend on how the DM builds encounters and how clever enemies are with the spacing, it's pretty easy to either minimize the number getting hit or bait friendly fire.
