Which rarity issues, the fact that there are 42 epics in a set of ~290 cards? Probably never. Pull rate of individual epic per box is about the same as magic, when you account for this being a larger than normal set. And the Chinese love to gamble.

I just hope they can drive the value into the chase cards to keep decks cheap, which seems to be the goal of most recently launched tcgs.

Not that anon, but Wrestler always seems to be good with a lot of melee classes, especially with the Gymnast Swashbuckler from what I've seen since it synergizes well with it due to getting panache from grappling, repositioning, tripping and shoving. I like the cool abilities and flavor of Kineticists, especially the Wood/Earth mix for defense and healing it provides, but they often feel very limited in what they can multiclass into since the Elemental Blasts don't count as strikes and wouldn't trigger stuff like the Investigator's Attack Stratagem.

Wrestler is pretty great, but I wouldn't call it busted. It's best things (since Whirling Throw was nerfed) is that quick bump in Athletics proficiency and easy access to Combat Grab. It isn't the kind of meta-defying "win more" button the options I listed are. It's on the same tier as Scout, Pistol Phenom, Fireworks Technican, or Acrobat -- an incredible slot-in for your build/statline but there are obviously higher powered picks.
And Kineticist does have great feats, but the +2 to CON prerequisite is the most taxing requirement and the dedication might as well do nothing for most classes. Plus the inability to mesh with other options really handicaps its possible power.

It sort of comes down to 2 issues

The better you make the core punch fantasy, the more you downplay the effectiveness of other traditional martial skills, especially when you introduce actual physicality to weapons (sunder rules/durability, ammo, weight, metals). So it becomes an awkward balancing act of finding ways to amp up punching and other Asian martial arts without making all the other options less valuable. Hence the super weird ki systems everyone makes for them. Hell, some fault can even be pinned towards Cleric/Warpriest/CoDzilla issues, with how it ends up being the "disciple of a martial order" deal.
It doesn't help grognards have a history of getting really uppity when a traditional fantasy game starts getting too weeby, see the longstanding joke of the Book of Weeaboo Fightan Majick.

Without repeating my previous 'review' of it and the mechanics: Most of my whinge about WanG holds, but it's also managed to annihilate all the equipment variety in exchange for adding in keywords that you pay extra for, make even basic mooks feel like bullet sponges (I think a basic mook takes three lasgun shots to put down? Short version, they have listened to their farseers once: To abandon the empire before the fall. After that they decided that shit was for little girls and the word of a farseer has slightly less weight than redlining your jetbike - fucking awesome, but what if you can go faster instead? They spend their time getting their cocks out to wave at Ulthwe farseers, picking fights with Necrons who are bothering exodites (or bothering literally nobody because fuck the Necrons) and going F A S T. It depends on your Storyteller's needs for the game. The scale of power used for Allies is almost entirely arbitrary in this edition.

The power of Allies depends on what you're playing, as Allies scale directly to how strong your starting characters are / what splat you're playing. That being said, because you can build a starting character who is a sorcerer as almost any splat, it would be unreasonable not to allow one dot of Allies to get you a sorcerer ally.

Depends on edition. 1e has the strongest enlightened mortals (Boost physical attributes only, up to Essence+5, Player's Guide 120), 2e has the most level and consistent presentation (no excellency, but a wide array of thaumaturgy and martial arts to exploit), and 3e has the most variable and ad-hoc version (do whatever you want, Storyteller characters only).

That said they've never actually had a dice limit set anywhere like everybody else does, in any edition, and if they got access to an uncapped 'add X dice where X is motes spent' type Excellency then theoretically they can pump as many dice as they have motes into it. Most Storytellers would cap them far below this though, usually based on whatever magic it is that gave them that ability - for example, giving them the Solar dice limit when they've been given power through Power Awarding Prana.

Though obviously the advantage of being the target can wane if you are forced to take office or Coellen and lose cubes you would otherwise be able to commit to flood positions, you should still eventually be able to get the upgrades or bonus tokens needed to force a route completion on keys or actions or to pinch key office majorities. If someone else wins and it has been feeling like coordinated musical chairs with upgrade routes perpetually filled and not completed and you don't get displaced all the time that's probably just a well played game and not really getting targeted. When I get targeted by newbies around the second or third game I find it can be fun to hit a double redeploy to the 2 man completion routes and threaten to cut those off suggesting I'm going for the largest network. It always makes for interesting behaviour and a lot of thinking about the game for them. If their play is hyper focused on you then you can scaffold their learning with your play. If one bought, played, sold then rebought the game then it suggests they really like it and it's better to consider one's own play as a means of instruction over selling it to rebuy it again later, or search for a alternative that does not exist yet. Another way to shake players out of weird play patterns is with the alternative maps.

Yeah. The extra action bonus markers can be used to ensure you're able to do what you need to do when you're getting targeted hard. It'll require even more skill to use them at the right moment, but I've had games where I fought very hard just to be in my last place position, and then in a single turn grab Colleen or keys 2 or 3 times and lock down the win (because I laid out a ton of cubes on previous turns, had upgraded move, and moved them efficiently with the +3 marker).

Games were between 3,5 - 4h. I first tought we could get it sub 3, but as it turns out having some experience and knowing the rules just meant less time there but more time spent listening to the other teams discussions and trying to.counterplay them. Which is both real fun but also drags the game on for a bit more than I'd like.
It's kind of a miracle it works so well, the game really seems like it originally was a free for all doam game turned into a team game last minute

I made and played a mounted archer once, back in 3.5 days.
It was cool and novel. It was also a mechanical mess, complicated combat, restricted where and how useful I was in a fight, completely consumed my Feats and Skills, wasn't pertinent in a major part of the game (indoors/underground), and ended up with a bad case of 13th Warrior Syndrome.

Depends on what you mean by far less.
If you wanted to play 2025 CoD in 2000 you would have needed to get your hands on one of these super computers. Conversely, our current super computers can do shit the 2000s couldn't even dream of.
Current day gamedevs are certainly less skilled than 2000's cutting edge computer scientists, but the same is true today, and they're probably less skilled than 2000's gamedevs too.
Perhaps you could represent this by accomplishing things being easier, thus the tools' users' need to be less skilled. If this was a societal trend then advances in Tools could lead to stagnation in Skills, leading to relatively the same outcomes.

As much as people like to complain about how bad videogames are today I don't think we're there yet. Yes modern day videogames are bloated beyond belief, but they're also, as a whole, significantly better than 2000's vidya.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first decade, Gygaxian D&D, its more faithful modern clones, and content created specifically for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended and taught by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

Yeah, fought these little shits with my group.
First one we met was oneshotted by the Explorer, so we said "Wow, these things are really weak!" and we soldered on.
Then, we got ambushed by three of them, and our Barbarian went down, almost died. We had to bail the place after that.
From that experience, we got extremely wary of them every time we encountered them.

A typical adventurer party — a small, self-selected group repeatedly exposed to life-threatening situations — will almost certainly show a higher point-prevalence of psychological conditions than the general population. At least one member will often meet criteria for a major disorder, and many others will carry clinically significant symptoms or maladaptive personality traits rather than full diagnoses.

The lack of institutional vetting and the self-selection of thrill-seeking, survival-oriented personalities increases both the probability of pre-existing personality traits/disorders and acquired trauma-related conditions. Common presenting problems (point-prevalence estimates for an active adventuring cohort) are:

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder / Complex PTSD: The signature disorder for survivors of repeated trauma. Symptoms include hypervigilance, flashbacks, avoidance, and emotional numbing. 25–40% (may be much higher in extremely brutal or betrayal-heavy settings).

Sleep disorders / chronic insomnia (symptom level): Very common after trauma; worsen mood, memory, and impulse control. 20–40%.

Depressive disorders: Chronic fatigue, anhedonia, hopelessness; frequently co-occurs with PTSD. 15–25%.

Anxiety disorders (non-PTSD): GAD, panic, and situation-specific phobias (e.g., claustrophobia in dungeons). 15–30%.

Substance use disorders: Alcohol, recreational drugs, and “potion dependence” as self-medication for PTSD or depression. 10–30%.

Traumatic brain injury / chronic neurological sequelae: Repeated combat wounds or magical trauma leading to cognitive change, mood lability, headaches, and impulsivity. 5–15%.

Personality disorders & maladaptive traits: Because many adventurers display adaptive or subthreshold traits, count 10–20% with clinically significant PDs or impairing personality traits. Full-disorder examples in this population:

Antisocial PD (ASPD): full disorder ~3–5%; antisocial/risk-taking traits higher.

But it's not a middle ground, you absolute tacticslet. If you have a choice between two approaches both of which will render your opponent's vehicle incapable of hurting you if they succeed, and one is FAR more likely to succeed, you're simply a retard if you choose the less likely option. It's too easy to dump a bunch of status effects on a vehicle and render it - functionally - just as useless as if you had blown it up. Maybe in a system that hadn't culled two of its six turns in order to free up time for a faggy little challenge minigame that was a solved problem before the game even officially launched it could have worked, but in 3.0's 4 turn progressive scoring approach being able to pretty reliably lock down opposing vehicles for several of those turns is ridiculous, especially in comparison with how resilient they are against attempts to actually blow them up with proper AT weapons.

Every word 3.0tards speak convinces me further that all the bleating and moaning about 2.0 was due to the fact you lot were all fed on a steady diet of lead paint and methylated spirits as children.
