Men who make/roleplay female characters, why do you?
Why do you think it bothers /tg/ so much?

Mixed bag. My wife is a good roleplayer and tends to help keep the group focused, and is great at working through puzzles and such. She refuses to read the rulebooks for any system though, so usually I end up having to help her with more crunchy mechanics and interactions. An overall improvement to the group for sure.
On the other hand, my buddy's wife fits the "wife brought along to RPG night" stereotype to a T. She's friendly and all but doesn't so much as make her own character and loses interest in favor of her phone very quickly and semi-regularly derails the group. Definitely the kind of person who is only there because she wants to spend time with her husband rather than because she has any real interest in RPG's.
>>
>>97223311
I have never had an overall positive experience with a female player.
Which regrettably is not for lack of trying.

I'm glad that others have had better experiences, but I won't be giving it another shot.

There are people who "intuitively know" that the world is flat. You'll forgive me if I'm gonna need more than your *feelings*
>>
>>97242200
Maybe not, but it doesn't look bad, or at least not worse than plenty of real art I've seen. I like it anyway.
>>
>>97242579
You do you anon, but honestly it doesn't really look all that appealing to me. That's honestly the most indicting thing about ai art I can say, since I know next to none of the people obsessed with it give a shit about the sheer environmental waste involved so far (cause progress or whatever) or how most of it is ugly (cause it'll look better we totally swear), most of it mainly looks unmemorable and passe.

>or how most of it is ugly

Actual human beings produce plenty of ugly art. Pic related (Paladin Alhandra, D&D 3rd edition PHB): Right leg's very obviously fucked, left arm's fucked, left boob's fucked, neck and back are fucked, scale mail looks like a texture tool, left knee is too low, what is that leathery flap in the back supposed to be, and everything kind of looks like it was drawn independently and then crudely assembled with clothing to hide the seams (bandana, collar, shoulder pads...)

This was drawn in 1999 or 2000, way before AI art was ever a thing.
>>
>>97242878
Anon, I pointed out that ai art looking boring and unmemorable is imo far worse than any of it looking ugly, since I get that ugly is in the eye of the beholder anyways.

I always view books like that as a style of campaign. In the same way west marshes is a style of game. So is running a pre-existing game, or just prepping one session at a time like with lazy dm’s guide.

Sounds like an interesting way to run a game. Often I incorporate elements of different books into how I run games and prep. Like with the lazy DM’s guide I take the idea of ensuring I prepare NPCs just as much as combat encounters sometimes by just copying fictional characters. In many ways I have different factions but could be good to read that book for some ideas on how to run them.
>>
>>97242633
>I also feel like this applies mostly to homebrew adventures with already heavily invested players who prefer more narrative in their games than straight up dungeon crawling or murderhoboing.
I mean, yeah, why would you ever want to play a pre-written adventure with uninvested players?

>>
>>97242686
Fuck did you do this time, anon?
>>
>>97242690
The authors seem to recommend running factions kind of like their own NPCs, where the faction itself has its own stated goals, personality, and agency. Each of the individual members of the faction fall into line with those qualities (unless the story demands otherwise). They also mentioned that they cribbed the "clock" mechanic from Blades in the Dark and apply that to all their games now, where the faction's goals are visualized as a subdivided circle (4, 6, 8, etc. subdivisions based on difficulty of achieving the goal). The faction fills in or loses a filled in part of the circle based on actions the party takes, and a full circle means the faction achieves its goal. For example, a rebel group that is trying to prop up the true heir of the recently deceased local noble would get part of its circle filled in if the party displays evidence in the court that the usurper came to his position by illicit means, or if they go and kill the usurper, but they would lose part of their circle if the usurper sends the party to attack their base of operations or if the party skips town without challenging the status quo.

I'm a newbie DM putting together a run of Lost Mines for four (mostly) new players of varying levels of engagement. Maybe I'm putting the cart before the horse asking if it's worth trying to get a player engaged when they don't even know their class abilities at level 1 beyond "hit the guy with my sword". Maybe asking them to examine their character motivations more will make them more engaged.

What deck do I play if I want my opponent to have fun?
>>
>>97240947
Play the most dogwater shit deck imaginable. Your opponent gets to beat you into a pulp regardless of what they play and you get to feel an unwarranted sense of self-assured smugness that you're unique and creative in between bouts of seething about your opponent being a metasheep (actually playing a tiered deck is optional).
This is the optimal way to enjoy yugioh.
>>
>>97240947
Depends on your opponent. If your opponent is a meta andy then you'd either want to be running a meta deck or something that has a good enough matchup against their deck to check it, but not dominate it.

If your opponent's on a dogwater deck, you run a dogwater deck.

Forgive me, for i'm just a secondary, who had only skimmed through PHB, MM and DMG once and had failed an only attempt to play 3.5 with some friends (when nobody knew rules, so most people had left after 5-6 sessions of playing-and-debugging), but isn't it just a combination of Scrying and Detect Evil under, maybe, some metamagic? Chronicle: The Modern Adam - An All-Unfleshed game of Promethean the Created game about a found family of Androids and Synths trying to find humanity
Game: Promethean the Created
Format: Over Voice on Discord with a Roll20 for Sheets
Time: Bi-Weekly Fridays at 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Session 0 is on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 6:00 PM, Session 0.5 would probably be on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 6:00 PM, etc
Slots: 0/6 NOW RECRUITING!
Pitch:
You don’t remember much. You never remembered much. You don’t remember how or why you were made. You don’t remember much of the lab. You don’t remember how you got out. Sometimes you remember a few things. Memories of a fine family and a white picket house. Memories of perfection, memories of the past, memories of the future… But they aren’t coherent. While you don’t remember things you do know that you aren’t human.

Your skin is too plasticky, your vision is enhanced with cybernetic overlays, your heart doesn’t exactly beat but instead whirr, and overall you are too uncanny. Incredibly uncanny. To the point that humanity itself fears you, rejects you. The truth that you can’t fully understand is that you were a product. You were a creation. An android, a test tube baby. A creation made of steel and reborn flesh from dead matter. Where your heart would be is truly a technomagic furnace which burns azothic energies. Alchemically powered automatons of science you are now lost in a big city. Hoping to find the truth.

Contact info/Discord Invite: @Shadsea is running it but to get in you need to fill out the form. Form closes in 3 days and I will be grabbing the 6 people that I like the most so please put your best foot forward.

As I said, I meant no offense asking. Just curious because I can't say I've seen something similar before. I might be a bit too frugal honestly, I never quite feel like I can justify commissions for my PCs, want to save that money. Only one I really have is one a friend commissioned for three of our PCs from a VtM game, and it was a pricy commission. Almost felt bad about it. Have gotten a few drawthread requests filled but none recently.

My man corgi is the royal dog of England.
>>
>>97183498
This is incorrect. Corgis in other countries are bigger than in UK. I know since I have two. Both are 15-17kg, and vets have always give them perfect score for muscle and physique. They aren’t really any bigger than average corgi in my country, but in a meeting organized by the kennel I got mine from, the breeder had some guest over from Britain who brought his corgis and they were tiny. That is when I realized that different countries have slight variety in dog breeds. Nordic corgies are huge compared to British ones.

On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?

Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

>>
>>97242177
Well, sure, via sufficiently advanced genetic engineering modifying humans into all kinds of exotic "aliens" would be pretty trivial but would they really be aliens at that point? You could of course do the whole ancient precursors or even past human empire that has collapsed etc type of justification being the reason why galaxy is filled with what are essentially modified humans, but that begs the question of "are these even aliens?" again.
>>
>>97242473

Think of it this way: if you need a GSB, almost surely you could justify it via genetic engeneering (even with advanced furfaggotry and such) plus ancient aliens doing their usual bullshit as needed. Maybe some wetware implants.

I mean, it's cheap, but so are GSBs. If you want something more or less interesting, I suppose you could go full autistic and ask yourself why there is a whole ethnicity (if that's the right word) of humans with funny noses or whatever.

While true, they also do it because it's a cheap way of conveying an idea or a specific kind of character trait to communicate the idea of the story.

Star Trek is specifically guilty of this although it can be said that at least the Ferengi got a massive glow up from being slinking monkey dudes with bulbous foreheads and dragon dildo laser whips to a respectable race who represent old world capitalism in a post scarcity "we don't use money" world.
