Maine to Greenland is well beyond the operational range of the F-35. Total stockpiles don't matter because you could never get them there to a 3-12 day scramble for Greenland.
>>

nta but current Team Yankee WWIII is a joke, they went to deep into 90s stuff as wunderwaffe but mostly for NATO only while Soviet and Pact stuff are really bad, their "elite" tanks are overcosted and inferior to NATO equivalents which only lead to spamming list being the only viable way to play Pact but guess what? NATO has better spamming list.
Balance and game stuff aside, which can be fixed by playing with decent human beings, the game is thematically dry there is no gun teams or field artillery and barely any infantry variety, current FoW V4 Late German has more interesting varieties of rating and motivation than the entirety of Pact forces which are only different flavours of cheap or even cheaper units

Of course, Europe, not just the EU, is no match for the US militarily.

But that's not the main issue.
An attack on Greenland would be the most idiotic blunder in the history of humankind.
With this single action, Trump would destroy everything the US has tried to build since World War II. America would lose its most loyal allies and make enemies. This would strengthen all anti-American imperialist movements worldwide. It would make the US a rogue state, just like Russia.

Do you realize that even Canada is now disgusted with the US? Even their English pets would stay away from them.

Whereas, fundamentally, this military conquest would bring nothing more than what the US already possesses.

And you know what, France was right from the start: it wasn't a good idea for Europeans to become vassals of the USA.

See, I agree in principle, but the post ww2 order was only a thing when we were unchallenged as hegemon. First in the west, then the world. Bush fucked it first. Then Obama with drones. Trump never cared then Biden turned the dollar into a weapon.

Second, the post war order seems to contain the caveat of actively dispossessed the citizens of all western countries.

It was always fake and gay.

After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session.
Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away.
And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.
>4e books are ~10-15$ now.

Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch.
Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings?

4e hate was always a meme. Almost all of its most vocal haters never played it, let alone actually read the books. They'll claim they have but then when pushed for what specifically they don't like they never actually had a real reason. They'll lie and squirm and make excuses but they just want to be mad at something and 4e was their obvious scapegoat.
>>
Anyone ever looked this over? What are your thoughts?
>>
>>97329180
Going by the previews it seems okay I guess? Outside the flavor and maybe vamps into mid paragon instead of being end of heroic threats I don't really see a need for the book. From the previews it doesn't seem to do anything that can't be done by just refluffing existing monsters. If you don't have to spend money on it then use it I guess but I don't think its probably worth the $8 they are asking for it.

I am always super wary of 4e homebrew. Because of the much tighter math of 4e compared to other editions most homebrew stuff is just thrown together and ends up either unusably weak or way too strong. More modern homebrew has gotten better since the system has been flayed open for so long but that book is from like 2011/2012 when 4e was still in print and thus is sketchy on its quality.

If you are desperate for more monsters, even though 4e already has like 5.3k, then I'd check out the 4e Discord. They have a few of the premier 4e homebrew writers there who autistically fix people's fucked up homemade ones.
>>
>>97329180
One of the best supplements from the 4E era if you actually read it and don't just assume it's dogshit to fit some personal narrative like the previous poster did.
My favorite thing is the ritual that turns a spellcaster's corpse into two distinct undead monsters: an invisible flying head only arcane classes can see and the headless body that punishes spellcasting performed around it.

General perception is dumb. Just have stealth rolls contrast alertness, and let players search for stuff if they want to which can reveal hidden things. If you want to give something to your players, just give it to them. Hidden objects should be extras that maybe make certain tasks easier, rather than be required for progression.

I just used it as an example of clearly defined rules which would make OP story less likely. The main issue is that 5e offer little to no guidance in these cases because just assumes the DM comes with the knowhow necessary for arbitration.

I don't really have much of a stake in the larger discussion but I'd say the flesh eater courts are more emulating the sort of late medieval, 15th century type courts and chivalry than the high medieval one. Y'know burgundian courts and all that. Firearms wouldn't be out of place there but it would be more like the handgonnes of the CoS fusiliers.

A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,

To continue on, as TA, a lot what made 40k great was that a little nuance showed that, when you look at things critically, everything, especially the stuff lauded by the Imperium, is a bit shit, and a bit messy.

>The Emperor's space marines-
-are a bunch of insular, unreliable military autists, who are kinda homosexuals, and weirdly fixated on finding the right breed of little boys to put their seed into. And while they're some of the only people with their heads screwed on right, when it comes to fighting, they're far from the combat gods the propaganda claims, they do weird shit on their ships, and they may just decide not to turn up because, to them, a beloved chapter marine is worth more than your entire planet of lesser stock males.

>His beautiful, pious and holy Sororitas-
-are religious misandrist nutters who, despite being better than Astartes in some regards, the Emperor would utterly hate. For all their professed goodness, they're just as likely to burn you to death for forgetting to say grace, and say "it's for your own good".

>His wise and inteligent Inquisitors-
-who only rarely have any idea what they're doing, are frequently just making shit up, and who definitely abuse their powers for all kinds of personal gratification and deviant behavior that would see anyone else thrice-executed for 'heresy'. Which is just a word for wrongthink that can be pinned on anyone.

Everything's a bit shit, everything's a bit unimpressive.
But also everything's a bit human too. All the motivations are ultimately human enough.
It's extreme, to highlight the absurdity and the deviancy. But the core motivations are human enough. Which, through all the grimdark and absurdity, makes it feel kinda cozy.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Saying there are ways of playing which are antithetical to the style and game design intentions is not the same as saying that there is a single way to play. And yes, some games which are marketed as OSR run against the general conventions, some of which can be bent, a few broken, while some others must remain quite rigid.
>>97340389
>try to impose their more restrictive definitions of OSR onto everyone else
This is one space on the internet, the restrictive" definition is imposed internally. Stop trying to impose your overly broad definition here.
>there is no such thing as a singular "BrOSR" style of play
Diversity of play style, just like we all want. Great!
>will almost always lean towards strict play

>Going through various forums discussing the BrOSR, alongside the self-styled BrOSR blogs, the only commonality I can really truly find is just "I am an asshole and let me tell you what the proper OSR is", with that being particularly pronounced on those latter blogs.

Yes, within narrow bounds not a straight jacket.
>try and avoid the BrOSR label
It was one fucking group.
>You are trying to split hairs over "single way to play" [followed by a load of nonsense goes here]
This was just silly, but I do maintain that being roughly in line with the first few sets of rules, particularly where all of them were united in word, or in spirit, is necessary to qualify as OSR. Adding too much onto that, or removing too much either buries the genre's core qualities, or diminishes it to the point of being a few anemic tools to assist in make believe. It's a matter of quantitative change quickly becoming qualitative, and vice versa, until you get something fundamentally different.
>I'm far from the only person
I know, there's like a whole two of you. WOWA
>you are a BrOSR
Who the fuck words an accusation this way?
>>
>>97340640
>This was just silly, but I do maintain that being roughly in line with the first few sets of rules, particularly where all of them were united in word, or in spirit, is necessary to qualify as OSR.
What is "roughly in line" is subjective, as is the determination of "first few set of rules" and whether that really matters at all alongside huge debates over what is the genre's "core qualities".
There's a pretty good reason why your personal definition belongs to a very small minority, and the major reason is that you are insanely close-minded while also being pretty fucking dumb, and that has a way of being quite unappealing to most people.

We are talking about a subjective topic open to debate, and yet you imagine that you can try to impose your personal definition, using a fair number of underhanded methods to try and get your way, all in an effort to do what? Brainwash people into accepting your definition in hopes that it will gain traction one day enough to supersede the commonly understood definition? I doubt even someone as dumb as you has that grand of a delusion.

If you just want to discuss "your" style, than there's no reason to try and impose it on everyone else, as you can discuss your style and ignore styles that you are not interested in, as regular people do on this website. If you want to have every discussion be done from a position where you can simply insist you are correct and everyone already agrees with you, then you are psychotic beyond even what we've seen from you.

Let OSR be OSR, and at least do the minimum research of looking beyond the handful of blogs that agree with you so you can realize just how big the OSR world is and how weird you are trying to make 4chan of all places the space for your personal echo chamber.
>>
>>97340700
>roughly in line" is subjective, as is the determination of "first few set of rules"
Not in the least. You can analyse where rules and guidelines circle back to, how mechanics interact, what is a tangential system and what is core.
>whether that really matters
Of course it damn well matters. The pieces that compose the whole influence the whole to a great degree.
>closed minded, and dumb
Omg rude
>underhanded
Nope.
>impose your definition
I think it's quite nice and broad, personally.
>something about brainwashing
Yes, I literally want to brainwash people.
Must I emphasize the sarcasm for you?
I also reject your third paragraph entirely because osr is rules + game format. It is a particular thing and not an expansive family of things, nor a bunch of gameplay ideas to be taken in all different directions with different design goals. And saying I am psychotic for simply holding to a narrow definition only reveals your own absurdity.

The fact that there are other tribes of Na'vi living in other places sorta made that event retroactively less bad. In the first movie they make it out like that tree is LITERALLY the only place that they live, but since they're scattered off the planet it downgrades the event to the equivalent of burning a village down. Still bad mind, but far less so. I'm also not entirely sure what the events prior to the start of the first movie were like, but given that the Na'vi were decently hostile even towards the avatars, it doesn't exactly paint them as saints.
Both sides absolutely made mistakes in that movie, but we only really get one side of the story and the movie is kinda deliberately presented in a way to avoid making the humans seem sympathetic.

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

>simplifying
Seems like the only thing simple here is you. Moving things from core to supplement says nothing about the complexity of the subsystem. In fact, it lets you give it a much more complete treatment because it's not fighting for page space with everything else in core.
>>
>>97339750
If you move it to splats, people will dismiss and remove it from the game out of hand. It is an intentional decision to have the systems in core to handle some of the economic conceits.

Everything that you have said regarding it so far has affirmed my concerns that players will bitch and moan about "optional" mechanics at the expense of players who want to actually use these systems.

Hmm, I've thought of implementing that myself, but never pulled the trigger. I do like adding guaranteed damage to weapons, like in 2020.

Which makes them more unique. I once gave out a 2d6+4 SMG which a player threw away because his 3d6 SMG "did more damage."

Unironically the Bad Guys work great as a Shadowrun crew.

I like painting epic scale minis and some people in my area do play Legions, how bad of a starter would it be to get something like the Saturnine or Combined arms battlegroup in terms of a beginner army?

>its a lot more fluffy that way

No it isn't, they had 100s of thousands of marines to equip so most have the basic loadout

The new apex detachment is also pretty good, lets you take a dreadnaught and a retinue + termies, you just need to take a terminator command squad

The separatist forces of Vykavu Rus participated in a beach invasion, far from their native snowy wastes but they still had a tremendous show of force to teach the foolish Salamanders what true artifice looks like.

So I was wondering if it's possible to use unlimited allies to take a Praetor of every legion.

Turns out you can't manage it at 3 000 pts but only because of the 50% limit on allies, but you can still do all 9 Loyalist (or presumably Traitor) legions and even give them loadouts so they're not all boring vanilla, while the primary detachment/remaining 1500 pts is Solar Auxilia.

So anons I present for you, the Loyalist Power Rangers

>Crusade Detachment (Solar Auxilia) - 346 pts
>5 man Legatine Command Section w/ Paragon Blade, Archeotech Pistol, Cohorts Vexilla and Command Vox - 180 pts
>2x 5 man Line Command Section w/ Charnabal Sabre, Blast Pistol, Auxilia Vexilla and Command Vox - 83 pts

>2x Infantry Tercio (Solar Auxilia) - 411 pts
>2x 20 man Lasrifle Section w/ Charnabal Sabre, Blast Pistol, Auxilia Vexilla and Vox Interlock - 103 pts
>20 man Veletaris Vanguard Section w/ Charnabal Tabar, Hand Flamer, Auxilia Vexilla and Vox Interlock (Logistical Benefit) - 205 pts

>Tactical Support Detachment (Solar Auxilia) - 330 pts

I'm okay with the hateflesh as a bioweapon of degenerate carnomancers personally.

>>97324366
A lot of the canons around them being queer also make them misunderstood. There's some good stuff in there, but it ultimately makes them more on of a culture that is unfairly maligned.

Is it that bad?

I just think the antagonists are really uninspired. They're all just modern day cultural "enemies" with Lovecraftian themes attached. It's basically rich scientologist types, online incels, white conservatives, and anti-science new-agers.

Tell the players one of them is coordinating with you as a traitor for the conspiracy.

Then either actually do that, don't do that to leave them paranoid, or actually do that for all of them just to fuck with them.
