pretty simple are any of yall gonna be there and do any of you have thoughts on the con
>>10969316Did you have a bag with a pin featuring Yuki from Mayonaka Punch on it? If that is the case, then I saw you at the convention. If I you were in fact the person that I saw, then I must admit being surprised that I actually witnessed somebody else that posted here in the real world.
>>10969353>It plays well to get there on Thursday and then start talking to people early/mid Friday. This sounds as though it is good advice. This has been my fourth time going to this convention, and although I enjoy the time I spend at the convention, I have only had one instance where I had a conversation with anyone that lasted more than perhaps one to three minutes at the absolute maximum. Zenkaikon was my first anime convention, and I distinctly remember feeling very anxious about going to the convention even after driving all the way to the convention center. I was anxious to the degree that I stayed in my car for probably thirty minutes just trying to build up the courage to walk into the convention center because I was afraid of how "weird" it might be, despite being an anime fan my entire life. After the first time I made it into the convention, the anxiety around attending conventions dissipated, but I still feel a latent anxiety and discomfort around actually maintaining or initiating conversations with people. It often does not manifest itself as actual nervousness or trepidation, although sometimes that is still the case. At this point, I think I often dismiss opportunities to speak to people entirely if I feel that I do not have a chance of maintaining a conversation with them, and so as a result I perhaps feel less directly anxious than I was initially, but only because I already dismissed many social interactions that could cause anxiety. Because of that tendency to dismiss potential chances to interact with others at a convention in the first place, the conversations that I do have with others never really go beyond one to three questions about somebody's cosplay at the absolute most.Perhaps I should go to this networking event the next time I go to Zenkaikon, as my current strategy for talking to people always turns into walking around the convention by myself for hours until I leave, and that does not appear to be working.

is it acceptable to make a thread on this board to try to identify a cosplayer? Didn't see anything about it in the rules, and never posted on this board beforePS: wtf is up with these captchas
Do you guys ever like to go through YouTube and watch con and cosplay fandom videos from before the 2010's?It's a hobby of mine. It makes me sad.https://youtu.be/vc2Zj1C_uKY
>>10967777>>10967778Wow there, ease up on the hate, bitch. I never said I'm happy that normies invade cons. I like anime and I'm a nerd and I like people who have sewed their costume or show otherwise effort and are nice. My point was that everyone doomposting about big cons is forgetting that there are a lot of chill places still.>getting into anime, cons, and cosplay before it went mainstreamDon't tell people what hobbies to have, moron, and those were the best times, precisely because the hobby was free from normies. >>10967847an imminently fair criticism, but even those people aren't really all that different. Even without the social media presence, people still do that social thing of wanting to appear important/cool at least as much as actually having fun. That sort of behavior totally predates tiktok>>10967834>Not being a con person and never having gone to them I don't know why, I only ever used them for con photos. Its kinda related to what >>10967847 was talking about. There's doing stuff for the love, and there's doing stuff for ancillary reasons. clout, networking, set up gatekeeping, imagined authority, etc etc. After the biggest cons either hit 10 years or crossed about 20,000 people, all sorts of websites and community chains started popping up. Some were genuine, some... did not feel as genuine.

This is for the older con goers. How does it feel to go to cons? Do you feel out of place? What is the average age at cons do you feel, and when do you feel like you've aged out of the con scene? I'm early 30s myself and I'm starting to notice the age difference, and have been interacting with people a lot less at cons
Went to a con couple years ago. I was already 40 and approached and talked to cuties in their 20s. Just don't be a creep
>>10968453Teach me your ways oh lecherous one. I beseech thee.
>>10968486>your waysWell as far as I've observed, since I went to anime and game cons just a few times (and our group was mostly interested in the gaming part), girls out there are friendly and like when you recognize the character they cosplay for. It's somehow acknowledging their effort, you start by complimenting the accuracy or, if it is a poor / haste cosplay, general compliments to break the ice. Talking about the character/anime/game they're cosplaying also fuels the conversation a lot. The age difference is somehow secondary because you aren't approaching a girl in a bar on a saturday night, in Cons they're there for a purpose as you do, as I said just don't be a creepy pussy starved idiot. The girl in the other post (Yae Miko) told me she spent some 300 bucks for that character then dropped the game. And I'm still there doing dailies years after.
>>10961065haha! based nana!
32 but still somehow get carded as under 21, cons are still easymodo. just use spf and take care of your skinidk how other people my age range who actually look their age, or older can even manage

Hi, I'm trying to figure out how this character's coat is structured. There are a lot of large random bits of fabric with thick outlines and different colors that suggest they're not connected, but that seems like a huge waste of fabric and the illustrator must have made a mistake. Or more likely, I've never done a military cosplay before so I just can't tell...I divided the parts roughly based on a very basic long coat pattern I have and come up with a plan to tack on the extra fabric even if it's a waste. But I only have patterns for straight long coats, so I can't figure out how I would get the waist to be tighter? If you recognize this coat in some military or have any similar sewing patterns, I'd appreciate any help! I don't really care about the military accuracy, but I would love it if there are existing patterns I could study from. Thanks!
>>10969362I would love to help, but this may be a case of an artist drawing some nonsense impossible design. What you did is pretty good already. As long as it looks similar from outside it should be enough
>>10969362Here's what I would do- CHEAT! Construct the coat as if it were a dress. Front, back, sides, zipper in back that will be hidden by the overcoat she's wearing like a cape. Or a nice long invisible zipper in a superfluous center back seam. Yeah, probably the invisible zipper. Then I'd add all the other strange straps and flaps over the top, sewing the flaps into the nearest seam.Costumes! They just have to look good, not function in any sensible way. Good Luck!
>>10969443>>10969447Thanks for the tips! I didn't want to cheat too much because I have some good white leather I was eyeing at my local craft store and didn't want it to go to waste. I'll probably try a mini 1:10 model out of some scrap fabric and see how it goes. I'm still not sure how to tighten the waist, so I might get one from Temu to dismantle, or just add a hidden belt inside.
