Even seemingly "complex" or out-there designs are easier to draw than ones with a billion tiny things.Most recent example is Yuiman and Ariya. Ariya looks more complex, but is easier to draw. Yuiman's scroll has a 100 different tiny symbols + there's little people floating around her and whatnot.But really, she's just unpopular because she's a new character and hasn't been used much. Even old characters that aren't utilized properly drop heavily in popularity, like Ichirin and Shou.
