Was there anything at all genuine and fun that you experienced from game companies for April Fools this year? Or was it all just shitty corpo cringe by out of touch boomers trying too hard?

I'll admit, 5 years ago I would have loved to watch an Inside the Chieftains Hatch video on the Chimera, but I watched this whole thing and only even lightly chuckled once ("Chimera track durability is perfect because no Chimera has ever outlived its tracks"). I don't think anything about gaming genuinely brings me any happiness anymore. It's all just tiresome and clocked in layers of redundant irony and mostly just conjures up regrets about how much more fun games used to be, instead of imagination or anticipation of games to come.

Anyway, I'll share the video. Maybe it can make one of you happy.

The cure is to ignore corporate marketing in its entirety and switch your interaction to actual, organic humans. For all their faults, they're still miles better than parasites interested only in exploiting you for profit.

Mitsu Ritual states
>Activate one of these effects
Mitsu Prayers states
>Apply one of these effects

The reason you need to declare which effect you're applying with Mitsu Ritual is because you're selecting the effect when you activate the card, while Mitsu Prayer strictly works during resolution.
>>
>>97821402
(Also like I mentioned in an earlier post, you declare the effect for Prayer during resolution).

I'm a boomer-ass unc returning to the game and asked you little shits for some advice running maliss a few weeks ago. Most of my cards have arrived finally, but I'm still working on filling out my extra deck. A lot of lists I'm seeing online have Link Spider in the ED, and I'm not understanding why because it needs Normal monsters to summon and none of the decks have normal monsters in them. Why is Link Spider being run in that case?
>>
>>97821659
In case you get Nibbed. It's a Cyberse link you can make with the token to allow you to keep playing.
Cards like Back-up and Wizard @Ignister need you to have a cyberse monster summoned from the ED on field to activate their effects in hand and monsters like Wicckid or Splash Mage(rip) need Cyberse monsters as material.

Long time MtG player (17 years?) and with what's happening to the game rn, i don't really have much interest in any of the new sets.

Sorcery looks like it could maybe scratch that itch. The art is fantastic and reminds me of legacy MtG art. Anybody here play?

I watched a few overview vids, but I'm curious how the actual gameplay goes.

For someone who plays mostly EDH, are there any similarities?

Is it usually a 2 player match?
How long are the matches usually?

Is it as much of a money pit as MtG?

Convinced a few of my MtG friends to give it a shot based off of the art alone. Just need an idea of what I'm up against in terms of learning curve.

There are precons for Gothic and Beta, get the Gothic ones. Necromancer is a top tier Avatar. Decks are 60 spells, 30 lands and 10 collection(sideboard). The Ian Miller cards are by far my favorite art.

I hope it does well, doubt it will even deny MtG though because plenty of better games have come after MtG but they died because of a pretty limited player base. Brand recognition is one helluva thing to beat.
>>
>>97820622
I do hate modern MtG like you wouldn't believe but aren't something like 80% of Sorcery decks water because that's the element with coolest sites and rules?
>>
A friend mentioned it to me a few weeks ago and I've had a waning interest in MTG for a long while now so I'm going to get into it even if it turns out to be a dead game. I bought the Gothic precons and I bought some playsets of the ordinaries (commons) of each set off of Ebay which should be showing up in about a week, probably in the next week or two I'm going to buy a booster box to crack.
I've probably played around 10 games with the precons with my friend and the game seems fun even if we are still misplaying and don't have a good head for strategy yet, not to mention it feels like the precons are kinda lopsided in powerlevel.
I don't know if I like the fact the deckbuilding meta has a lot of universal autoincludes (toolbox no matter what for sidedeck casting wincons, cores/mixes/other powerful artifacts if you can afford them) and the entire meta seemed completely dominated by Druid decks before he got nerfed via errata.
The fact that a lot of cards I've seen have misinterpretable wording that can lead to confusion about how stuff is executed also isn't great, but Curiosa.com is a solid resource that clears most things up pretty quickly even if it is irritating that I have to interrupt games several times in order to figure stuff out.
Even with those reservations the game is doing too much cool stuff for me to ignore it. Between the art and the really interesting design space they use with some cards like pic related I can see myself spending a lot of time and money on this, even though the only people I'm probably going to be playing with are 2-3 friends since the closest sanctioned event is over an hour away from where I live.

Welcome to /2eg/, a thread dedicated to all things 2nd Edition D&D related - including settings, lore, modules, and derived systems (Alternity, Buck Rogers XXVc, For Gold and Glory, Hackmaster, Myth and Magic, and more).

Since 2e draws heavily from earlier editions, older modules are welcome too. Other media derived from AD&D (such as Infinity Engine video games) also has a home here.

It's what you play, not how you play it. RAW or homebrew, as long as your table is having fun, there's no wrong way to play.

There's a surprisingly complete 2e fan wiki for rules stuff, it's excellent for quick reference:

>hasn't gotten you guys /osrg/ to let 2e posters back in.
I mean, the real question I've got for you is; why would you want back in?
Let's say for a moment they're perfectly mechanically cohesive (They aren't but let's say); fluff wise and design wise they aren't.
Why would you want to be barnacled onto a thread that's, mostly, about things that aren't the thing you're interested in?
There's a reason 3.5 & Pathfinder have separate generals and that's because they've got two different groups of people interested in them.
Doesn't make one better than the other mind you, but if you talked Pathfinder in /3.5g/ or 3.5 in /pfg/ you'd still get a gentle steer to the right place rather than being welcome there.
We don't have to be hostile to each other (Though, everyone is hostile to Fishfag for obvious reasons), but we can still be independent of each other instead of being two fat chaps trying to share the same small elevator.
You deserve your own threads with their own culture where you can talk about the things you enjoy with gusto, rather than having to be barely tolerated in a thread that's otherwise not really about the things that really make the game you want to play worth playing.
I mean shit, I'm here not because I want to cause fights but because I'm hoping to get some decent conversation about Birthright at some point, since it's a cool as fuck setting.
/2eg/ should really be about both 2e & the settings that came out of it, since most of them are fucking amazing. That'd give it some real legs.

Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG by R. Talsorian Games, set in a (then) future inspired by film noir and the dark science fiction films and books of the late 20th century. It focuses on simulationist gameplay and lethal near-future combat.

Cyberpunk RED is the latest edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG, set after the devastating Fourth Corporate War. It focuses on more balanced, streamlined gameplay and is currently supported by R. Talsorian Games.

>what the fuck were they thinking with vehicle prices
IRL answer: vehicles were deliberately made so pricey so you could gulp on nomad cocks
Autism answer: given the fact they not only
a) dont need to refuel EVER and
b) are mindblowingly high priced and
c) are extremely easier to repair than everyday objects in game
I'm convinced all cars are nuclear powered by default. Backed by the fact that the engine itself is a single block shielded by fuckton of what is effectively armour (so it dosnt break even when vehicle is hit by a rocket, and therefore destroyed), and that ONLY 1000eb cars are said to run on hydrogen engine. Even the corebook states the infrastructure for electric cars is pretty much non existent, and that there are oil shortages, and they havent mastered cheap hydrogen engines yet.

If you're following the payment guidelines and shit, spending 500 to 1000 eddies and having a bunch of downtime is pretty significant at street level. I think you also need to enforce narrative consequences as well, like you've been gone for a week so youve missed opportunity, or your enemies have made moves in your absence.

A lot of HFY stuff is kind of punching down, first making up really pathetic aliens and then laughing at how pathetic they are, and marveling at how awesome even a completely mediocre human with no achievements of his own is in comparison. Making aliens impressive in their own right and then figuring out how humans could be competitive with or even superior to them should be the starting point.
>>
>>97821609
HFY has always largely been trash, a dumb AMERICA FUCK YEAH ripoff but right after the first Avatar movie tried to equate all of humanity with America in Space.
>>
>>97821629
Fair enough. It's also a solution to a nonexistent problem, in a way. I've seen people argue that HFY is a counterreaction to science fiction denigrating humans and presenting aliens as superior, but I've never seen anyone make a convincing case for that having ever actually been a common, mainstream thing in scifi.

Not the real artists are the ones making those zealous anti ai threads, it's the masses of bad "artists" and their easily replaceable slop they call art. Ai does what they to, but faster, cheaper and often better too. So it's logical that they try to make potential customers follow their crusade against ai.
Real artists are not really affected and their works will always stand out.
>>
Friendly reminder that AI has caused the RAMpocalypse by gobbling up all current and future RAM production to weld into AI data centres, and even older sticks are being devoured to be recycled into compatible formats.
Reminder that AI centres use watercooling and at the current rate of expansion will be causing water shortages in even the 1st World in under a decade.
Also reminder that ai generate painfully generic content that is the result of condensing down countless search results to create a template formula that results in painfully generic images and writing.
The Abominable Intelligence has no soul and cannot replace a humans work, nor come close to mimicking it. Its only strength is to shart out masses of generic slop and clog every image search and story board with generic machine sharted slop.
>>
>>97821562

Lmao. This environmental argument is always very funny to me. It reminds me of the propaganda of "don't use your car. Now, please ignore this ship/factory/plane that pollutes more than a million cars. Think of your impact on the environment!"
>>
>>97821459
It's cliche, but FOMO. People have disconnected IRL so much after the pandemic that they grasp, desperately, at any crumble of attention they can get on social media. News stories are an interest-agnostic way of farming that attention, as you just need to react drastically in any way to assure either a steady flow of dopamine from people liking it, or other potential dopamine faucets in the even more extreme takes you can answer to people who criticize your original take. Even my own reply to you has some of that extremism, for example.
Should happen less as they get older and notice they've seen this pattern before ("Photoshop art is not real art! Ban Photohop as it objectifies women! Photoshop kills art!"), but echo chambers like the ones we find ourselves more easily surrounded by today often amplify the actual results of things, so the overreaction of some people actually causes behavior one should overreact to.
>>
>>97821580
>ship/factory/plane that pollutes more than a million cars.
The ship pollutes more per vehicle, but use your brain a bit. Cargo runs on thin margins so they use the most efficient engines possible running on the least refined fuels possible with zero idling time. Your car on the other hand is an engine optimized for about 60kmph that spends most of its time idling at 0, drinking more refined and less efficient unleaded/ethanol'd fuels, and it doesnt drive straight lines. Your car per tonne of cargo is comically inefficient compared to even the most polluting cargo ship, who's companies are unironically considering reintroducing sails to save fuel even further.
The stupidest part of it is that... you are the one using the cargo ship. You're posting on a device shipped from china, most likely on furniature from china with a stomach full of instant ramen from china. its not like you had nothing to do with those emissions, its YOUR emission in both cases.

Airlines are a fair criticism, but you can easily just tax the carbon to offset that, and its not like there's a more efficient way to do what airlines do. Cars on the other hand are notoriously inefficient at pretty much every step, even the roads they run on are less efficient than if you primarily used busses.

Yeah, I don't follow here.

3rd edition Codexes are basically compatible with 4th edition rules.
4th edition rules are generally seen as an improvement over 3rd, or at least cleaned up and clarified.
mid-to-late 4th editon codexes have less options and customization so many prefer the 3rd ed ones and its not a big deal.
Not sure what other cases there would be.
>>
>>97820675
Ah, if we're talking about that then there's a couple other examples:
>3rd ed fantasy is mostly compatible with Rogue Trader, particularly via the Realm of Chaos and Siege books.
>4th ed fantasy is compatible with 5th ed, though it might be necessary to convert some magic and wargear, particularly if backporting (Cards from both editions are also compatible with Warhammer Renaissance, for the three people that play it)
>6th ed fantasy army books are mostly compatible with 7th edition, again, with some minor jank
Generally speaking, most editions are somewhat compatible with army books from the previous edition, often needing some sort of errata, as this allowed you to play you army while waiting for the new codex to drop.
Of course, 3rd edition and prior don't really have this feature as individual army books weren't a thing back then.

Ps. God, this new captcha is utter shit, I've guessed correctly a bunch and somehow haven't been able to pass it.

Pigheaded Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

That can also mean that nobody here is able to get games which is a common problem with anything that isn't one of the big shots like Warhammer and DnD etc.
Also apparently Tabletop Simulator doesn't count so if nobody at the LGS wants to try TC then there's no way to dodge the dreaded nogames label.

That was one troll and a random shit poster having a meltdown last thread, TTS is not as good as the real thing but it counts. If you can’t get anyone at the LGS or one of your friends to play then it’s an ok substitute
It will always be hard to get people to play tabletops, the hobby is smaller than you think if you ignore 40k and dnd players since they refuse to try anything else

By just getting people to play the game as >>97821296 said, people shit-talk the lore, the religion and the developers but the gameplay is very fun. Also I really do not know how widespread the "TC is a woke scam" thing is, only a couple of guys at the LGS had an idea of what was going on in social media.

I got some of my no-tabletop-wargames friends to play the game by just pitching the premise, the artwork, the campaign progression aspect of it and telling them you can play it in less than an afternoon. Then we had our first introductory game at the LGS and we've been playing since.

I play this game once a week and have really enjoyed playing as Heretic Trench Ghost, Heretic Naval Raiders, and Iron Sultanate (no subfaction).
I often have Leo pointing/Cap on the Helicarrier moments of recognising references to scripture, liturgy, and history.
Most of what I know about the game I learned by playing, but I have seen snippets of lore here and there. It is a fun way to spend an evening with friends and I am glad there's threads for it here!

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

He hasn't made any videos in a very long time.
I'm starting to lose hope...

How're we all doing today members of the secret /BroSR/ cult that has infiltrated and taken over this thread like Serpentfolk? What have you done to advance our nefarious agenda today? Have you been working on your prenunciation? Remember, the Kaa in Ka nama kaa lajerama is pronounced like the K in ACKS.
Poor bastards, I do feel sorry for them.

Read ADND DMG, then the original 1974 WITH chainmail. Ignore all other advice. You will thank me later.

I got this tank secondhand and I'm trying to get it finished, but it didn't come with the hover stand. I was planning to use some plasticard painted black and hide it underneath, but I only have 1mil sheets

Nice clean greens n yellow. Looks good for 2nd hand.
I also just got in a tank from Noble Knight for $20 that's got a very dark but finished blue paintjob, but it's got a broken front mounted gun and no turret. I am actually really happy about the paintjob as my army has a dark blue palate, plus I can fix the gun bit slicing out a las from my leman bits and making it fit in. Need to stick a turret on it as well, which isn't a problem since the leman box I already have has 2 turrets.

What an oddly shaped lump of tin ore.
Put him on a big old rock.
