Those are just daemonettes?

How would you humanize enemy mooks even if the players have to put them down at the end of day? How do you make it so that players leaving piles of corpses in their wake is not a trivial matter?

Trying to turn elfgames into morality lectures is immature.
>>
>>97396557
>Sure, but you must realise it's not actually a very useful way to approach understanding a message of any kind
Epistemological utility is not at the forefront of most people's mind when they're enjoying a book. I'm happy to hear that I'm not the most autistic anon in the thread, but this is still a lot more extreme than I'd expect. Hell, I didn't even have pubes when I read these books the first time, and I sure as shit had never heard of most of this christian moralfagging. I just inherently knew that monsters are bad because I'm not a soulless bugman. In normal folklore, nobody sits around pondering if the ogre is redeemable through their hypothetical faith in the grace of this or that mystical biblical narrative. It's a man-eating monster, so it's bad.
>Nor does it make for convincing arguments.
I'm not trying to convince you of anything other than the notion that not everyone reads things the same way you do. I have stated several times that Tolkien may very not have meant it in the way that I read it.
>The thing is that I can't understand what you are trying to say.
I have been very clear. Re-read my post.
>If orcs as a group were not initially evil, then how can orcs as individuals all be evil?
Because they weren't initially orcs. They were elves that were corrupted or whatever the hell their origin story is (I legit don't remember what is mentioned in the books). Once they are transformed into orcs, they are henceforth always evil.
Point is, from my reading of it, it would never be possible that orcs suddenly apologized for orcing around, then were granted land and lived henceforth in peace and prosperity as honest farmers on the borders of Gondor or whatever. There aren't going to be any dynastic intermarriages with "good orcs" or integrating 13% of them into your population. For them to stop being evil, they'd have to become something other than orcs (perhaps reverted to whatever they were as a race before becoming orcs, or some new thing).
>>
>>97396699
>Because they weren't initially orcs
You think that was clear from your earlier posts? Because I don't see anything that even hints at it. Also it's been a while since I read LotR, but I'm pretty sure nothing in there hints at such an origin, so I doubt that's what you were thinking when you read the books as a kid.
Regardless, you are now not a kid. In light of this, and what you've been told, are you going to continue to stick with your interpretation, or are you able to take in new information and adjust your worldview accordingly? Which is what I mean by "useful": do you really think it's better to stick to your guns come what may? And if so what's the point in this discussion at all?
>>

In a realistic setting, the "body count" of a professional adventurer or mercenary would look nothing like the thousands you often see or hear:

>The Average "Career" Mercenary:

Likely 5 to 10 people. Most "adventuring" would be travel, guarding caravans, or intimidating bandits into fleeing. Actual life-or-death duels are terrifyingly risky; most people surrender or run before the killing blow.

>The "Elite" Veteran:
Perhaps 20 to 50 people. This person has survived multiple skirmishes or sieges. In a pre-modern setting, most deaths in battle happened during the "rout", not in honorable combat.

>The Statistical Outlier:
Someone like a legendary knight or a highly active assassin might reach 100+, but they would be a historical anomaly, the kind of person songs are written about because their survival is statistically impossible.

If "heroes" killed hundreds, they would likely be dead or incapacitated within their first month for three main reasons:

>You think that was clear from your earlier posts?
I told you to re-read the post several times. You seem to have missed "orcs (as a group) were once something else which was not evil."
Something else, ie. not orcs.
>I'm pretty sure
So I looked it up, and there's a bunch of different origin stories.
https://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Orcs/Origin
>In the Annals of Aman (1950s) appears the most known origin: in the Y.T. 1085, those Elves who ran from Oromë were captured by Melkor and taken to Utumno
...where they
>were put there in prison, and by slow arts of cruelty and wickedness were corrupted and enslaved. Thus did Melkor breed the hideous race of the Orkor in envy and mockery of the Eldar, of whom they were afterwards the bitterest foes.
That wiki calls it "the most known origin"
>so I doubt that's what you were thinking when you read the books as a kid.
I seriously don't understand how you feel confident commenting on what anons may or may not have read or imagined as children, but you sure do look like a silly billy now.
>Regardless, you are now not a kid.

So my DND group was kind of disolving, 2 out of the 4 players left because of life issues (one got a job abroad and the other one is dealing with life), to keep playing we incorporated 2 new players with not so much experience but avid watchers of Critical Role.

One of these player conditions was that we incorporate x cards to the game, she says that it makes it much more comfortable for her to know she can avoid unpleasant story elements having this tool.

I started to read a bit about it online and is this something you guys have used? In my 20 years playing I've never used this.

Theater also attracts narcissists. Outside of Shakespearean or period acting which attracts nerds and autists most mainstream theater is full of narcissistic retards that are all about their own success. A lot of the "professional rioters" we see in the US are also theater kids.

It's a question about a traditional game, there's nothing that says this board has to be crunch only.
In fact, it was created as the 40k containment board, and most of the threads on /b/ (that /tg/ was created to contain!) weren't about the rules of the game.

The Roman Empire was not "founded" you retarded midwit, they didn't all just suddenly start calling themselves an Imperium. They literally kept referring to themselves as a Republic after Caesar took power and after Augustus succeeded him. Because both Julius and Augustus structured the Empire as the Republic 2.0, where the Senate would still do the majority of the governing, the courts would still settle all the disputes in the provinces, and the Imperator was nothing more than a permanent version of the previously temporary Praetor title. If you're referring to Augustus's civic reforms, he mostly targeted the rotten bureaucracy of Rome, kicking out the corrupt slime that were running its institutions and its temples. He did not make radical alterations to the Senate itself. There was no need.

1e Mythic is brokenly overpowered and makes the game basically freeform if the GM doesn't want to arms race things to the point nobody is having fun anymore. It's funny but unsustainable if people are really trying.

2e mythic is broken, underbaked, and boring. Nothing in 2e Mythic actually feels mythic. Mythic Proficiency is one of the worst thought out mechanics in the entire system. Mythic monster creation rules are actively anti-fun. Mythic player options are a joke and you're better off running regular ass free archetype most of the time.

>>97388841
I think the thing that gets me is that the "floor" of non-mythic competence in 2e is higher, but the highs are barely above that. It's real easy for EVERYONE to at least be passably competent and jumping around, climbing, and swimming, as you'd expect adventurers to be... But it's a monumental effort to get even slightly better than that, and 2e mythic basically doesn't even attempt to push that ceiling so it's a joke.
>>
>>97395324
Most of the time I see SF2e mentioned, it's either flat out treated as an expansion pack of PF2e, or it's people arguing about whether or not PF2e content should be factored in any discussions about it. The latter of which feels psychotic because paizo spent so long jerking off about compatibility and making sure classes didn't invalidate eachother by being too similar that no fucking SHIT I'm going factor the two together when talking about SF2e.

I will die on the hill that Solarian, Envoy, and Operative are three of the worst designed classes in the combined system-at least Operative is STRONG in spite of missing the entire point of the original class, the other two have no excuse
>>
>>97395324
There's just not much to talk about it. All the interesting space content was pushed to this year, so it really is more an ex-pack for Pathfinder.

>>97396517
The most recent errata did help patch some of the more apparent issues with Operative, but it is still a bit messy. And Solarion is more an issue of having no good content to gel with its martial playstyle. Very vanilla, but easily addressed with feats and additional manifestations as more splats are released.
Envoy, I got nothing. It really is just...not well-designed. They had something with the playtest, I don't know why Paizo seems hellbent on shooting themselves in the foot when they get a good idea.
>>
>>97396604
My issue with Operative is that it fundamentally is no longer the original premise of the class and the new version is strong in the most boring way possible. It isn't the class to be Han Solo anymore, it's the class to be John Halo. I get that 1e Operative was "too good at everything" but Jesus Fuck did you have to make the worst part of it the only part?

Solarian just feels fundamentally designed wrong in ways I can only blame on sharing a book with 5 other classes. The Manifestation system being hardcoded instead of Modular and its KAS being locked to Str are intrinsically mistakes that put a choking leash on what should have been an exciting class.
>>
>>97395324
I'm the audience for starfinder 2e, but besides losing some of my interest for pathfinder in general lately some of the weird modern writing they're doing for the setting is souring my mood on it. I think 2e was a better approach than 1e did trying to make it its own weird thing but the mindset that lead to "doomscrolling" and "spoons" as feats clearly permeates all the new stuff they write and its just offputting. I still probably will either shill it to my group one day or port parts of the setting I like to another system one day.

The mechanics in Rogue Trader vidya have almost nothing to do with how the actual tabletop works, other than attribute names, d100 rolls (which also don't work exactly the same) and some loose inspirations it's a 100% different system.
That being said, FFG games ARE fairly crunchy, so if that's a concern for you, it's a fair one

The fact that SoB orders are much less atomic than Marines and much more rigid and identical in look is one of the great reasons that makes the former waaaaaaayyyy harder to turn them into YourGals than the later into YourDudes. In addition to the fact it's way easier for the average hobbyist to tinker with the larger models. We need more lore and visual diversity for minor orders.

Is Warhammer 40,000 actually a misandrist/female supremacist setting? I'm just thinking about how every apparent accomplishment of the setting's major male players was actually done by a woman behind them e.g. the Emperor and Erda, Vect and Lady Malys, Angron and Lotara Sarrin, the High Lords of Terra and Morven Vahl, etc. etc.

40K is a "men are stupid, thoughtless brutes" setting. It always has been, but in recent years the writers have become more influenced by the rise in feminist thought and orthodoxy in society at large. This subtly twists the feel of the setting. It is one thing when a man admits to himself that he has flaws, it's another thing when a woman is nagging him about them.

Der Ring des Nibelungen is no more Norse mythology than Christopher Nolan's Odyssey will be Greek mythology. Erda is one of the norns in actual Norse mythology, Wagner instead conflates her with a separate cthonic earth goddess. I guess the norns pop up at the start of Gotterdammerung but they really aren't a significant part of the opera, Erda is much more importantly the mother of Brunnhilde the Valkyrie as far as Wagner goes. Wotan is not bound by fate in Nibelung, he is bound by the laws and contracts he has agreed with all of creation which are also the source of his power. The norns merely read destiny in their weaving, they don't create it, and in fact once they see the death of all the gods they immediately lose their foresight and disappear.

So like you got Erda is taken from Der Ring des Nibelungen correct, and I guess she is the mother of the norns there? When I look at their single performance they just say "down to mother" when they leave, but who else would that be within the context of the opera?

But the norns do not create fate, Odin (or Wotan, if we're using Ring-analogues of the gods and goddesses) is not all-powerful and he is not beholden to them but to himself. If anything Wotan manipulates Erda in Nibelungen: when he finds out she has a power of foresight he seeks her out and seduces her for her knowledge, then has a daughter by her he intends to use to loophole out of his own obligations by having two of his mortal children create an incest baby who can act as a free agent.

The problem isn't the scraping. The problem is the people they're scraping for deciding to move in, who only knows it for those scraped moments, not the underlying culture and mindset that creates them.

The newfags still occasionally parrot oldfag /tg/ memes. But they don't make new ones, because they aren't actually of us. They aren't proper newfags, they just new and fags. Given how long it's been, I can't really even say they're all that new. Our nest is full of cuckoos.

are the original inspiration for the setting. Were they all drawn by the same person? I'm sort of wondering whether this person ever produced more art in the setting, if so.

NTA but they collectively respond to him more than he posts.

Two examples in 40 years is "exception that proves the rule" territory, easily. And the thread is about sports, not board games about sports. As far as I know /tg/ has never encompassed sports, probably because we have a sports board.

I like their mechs, I like their colors, I like them just being the setting's grunts. I like autocannons. Simple as.

For reasons I don't understand myself I have been testing the AI in MW5's arena missions and holy shit this is bad.

tl;dr If you never shoot anything the AI completely ignores you but the second you start dealing damage every mech immediately starts targeting you. I ran a mech with every sensor range boost possible and even stuff that should not even have you visible on their radar will start coming from across the map. Mechs will stop shooting at each other to do this and not shoot the other mech they were fighting in the back when it turns to head your way. ECM also does nothing.

I initially thought it was some kind of threat assessment based on you doing a bunch of damage since player mechs are much more optimized than even the tuned up Solaris ones the AI uses but no. It's literally anything. A small laser is enough to trigger this. I thought the AI opponents getting stuck in their starting corridors and not moving was bad enough but this is unreal.

Also to reiterate you are actually invisible to the AI until you fire any weapon. I tested and found it possible to just move backwards from your starting point and read a book. It takes about 20ish mins for the AI to kill each other off until there is one active opponent and whatever ones spawned but never moved but once you're there they will still not actually seek you out or anything. Like I left it sitting from that point to cook dinner and came back without anything changing.

This is probably the same AI they use for normal missions and it kind of works there but I legitimately have no idea how they thought this would be acceptable. The Duncan Fisher missions were okay but mother fucker did they even playtest this?

The last Solaris mission in MW 4: Mercenaries where Peter Dexter starts right behind you with a dual UAC/20 MadCat II was bullshit but they at least knew how to force the bots to fight each other with scripting.

Wait for the TTRulez mod to get updated. MW5 Mercs is virtually unplayable without it, nothing in the game has a brain.
