Have anyone ever featured or encountered a C'tan or C'tan Shard in any of your games? I'm reading through The Outer Reach and it just doesn't really do much to flesh them out or how to roleplay them. What are they like, what are their goals and motivations beyond being, you know, Pokémon? The C'tan have always struck me as being the more Lovecraftian beings compared to the Chaos Gods, being more ambiguously evil entities rather than Chaos' cackling evil.
Does anyone know where to find a good game for dark heresy? My local groups gay and just wants to play shadowrun and others have kids that eat up their time
>>97346680A couple times as a generic boss, because the smaller the shard, the less of a personality it has They're kind of like the flood, a shard is like an infection form, empty headed and single-minded about finding more of themselves, but combine enough shards and you get a Gravemind...that mainly cares about finding more of themselves. In my last series, I had shards so small that they could be used as Stands. One player had a C'tand of Nyadra'zatha, though, and that was fun to see. It was a little bomb dude that caused havoc in fights. Those C'tands caused the players a ton of problems, though, because of everyone else who had and used them. C'tand masters are drawn to one another, after all.
>>97346715Comparing them to the Gravemind is a good one, but I feel that kind of... I dunno, part of me wants to say that it's not enough. Like, I don't want it to be some mindless disease. I'd want the Nightbringer to speak the language of death and the dying, I'd want the Deceiver to do tricky shit and wax poetic about the concept of lying. They should be more than just evil being that's trying to recollect itself.
>>97346680>what are their goals and motivations beyond being, you know, PokémonBeing infinite% mad and living weapons. They're the barest slivers of what they once were and don't have much of a mind to plan things out.
About to start a daggerheart one-shot that could potentially lead into a stable groupWhat am I in for? I thought there'd be more fanfare for this
>>97332330An okay-ish system that is way more fully of arbitrary game logic about what a character can and can't do based on randomly earned metacurrencies and video game-y attempts at "balance" through likewise arbitrary restrictions on what characters can or can't do.Some people like it, others don't even care it exists. CR/Darrington got their fans to buy it, and then made a bunch of retarded excuses for why they won't be using it for their main campaign after they already sold it to their fans.
>>97332330>daggerheartCan't you just play D&D like a good person? Daggerheart is hot garbage.
>>97332330>Daggerheart >DnD heartbreaker Oh I get it lol.
>>97336644>arbitrary game logicoh I like chaos

>30 years>bestselling book series of all time>world's most famous fantasy setting>still no (official) tabletop RPGlolwut
>>97345620>costsThat's another big issue when you start trying to translate Harry Potter magic. Spells typically don't have costs. Even if you want to ignore the various dark arts and avada kedavra and say that those require someone to be particularly sadistic to use them correctly, we see lots of simple spells that functionally just win fights instantly. The only real reason as to why someone can't use a spell is due to a lack of practice or talent with the spell.Except even that's not always the case, because you have Obviate as a relatively precise memory-wiping spell. But instead of that spell simply failing if a novice casts it, we see Ron mess it up and it still causes massive memory loss and brain damage. The spell is actually more dangerous in the hands of someone unskilled. There's no way to make a functional system out of this, because even if you try to gate powerful spells behind higher tiers of magical skill, a PC can just lobotomize any enemy they come across instead. This gets even worse if you're not just having the PCs getting into fights against monsters and evil wizards, because then they're free to try and abuse the hell out of a lot of weird magic. There's magic that can duplicate objects. There's magic that can make it impossible for anyone in the world to learn a 'secret'. There's magic to turn inanimate objects into animals. There's magic to turn creatures into inanimate objects. This isn't something that you can just slot in to replace the D&D spell list and expect it to function, because it's not going to survive 5 minutes of scrutiny from the players.
>>97345952You are an easily manipulated mouthpiece. For the banker shit, the main thing people complain about (the set used for the Deathly Hallows movie) was ALREADY LIKE THAT before they started filming.
>>97344959>Magic has rulesWhat rules man that shit is never explained? It's just a list of spells and generic stuff that never gets named. As for world building, I'll agree that Magical England is pretty well built as is Hogwarts, but that's pretty much where the book ends in terms of quality world building. Her entire take on "druids" and everywhere outside of England except for France having regional schools instead of a per-country is some laughable lack of logical thinking. I can't blame her for it though, it's ultimately a children/ YA book and it isn't meant to be a le deep fantasy political world built for autists like GRRM (who's also got his own pitfalls as a writer too, like any).
>>97345083I'd like to note that the location of the lake is actually not consistent, as it's sometimes in a different location or elevation difference from where it was from the start. This isn't a big enough deal to matter though.
>>97345116The setting has potential for more noir-ish story telling about wizards breaking wizard laws, so that you can apply mundane situations (Meth labs, tax evasion, murder, assault) to a fantastical setting that lets people get engaged with alternative forensics or somewhat nonsensical witness testimony. It could be interested, even if a majority of it is gay 9-5 office shit, teaching, fieldwork, or playing the singular sportsball in the setting.

Without tanks, how are they to reach their objectives without being bombarded to smithereens or handle hard targets? To me, an ideal solar aux force, or really any force of normal humans in Warhammer since they play pretty similarly, would be something like 25% infantry (including command elements, 15% artillery, 60% tank in points.

The Godhead, a concept abandoned by the Apostles for a more angelic or even archonic interpretation of the high wills, believed in the words of Father Prestor. God, according to the Deshreti, can be broken into three portions with each embodying different concepts of the divine will: the Creator/Demiurgos, the Lord of Heaven/Pantokrator, and the divine force that lies within all man if they chose to be saved. Angels tend to take a backseat in Deshret sermons with most priests focusing upon God himself and the wonders of creation. >The Prestorites were brutally subjugated by the Zaranim who kidnapped many women and boys and left the church on life support for many centuries. The Great Crusade brought an end to the Zaranim and the reign of cruel Sultans. The Crusading Orders formed a grim alliance with the Prestorites who saw their form of worship opposed to the reign of the Angels which succeeded in revitalizing the Church (a few forced conversions at the point of a sword helps with that) and brought upon a new era. The Ghazi raids are still an ever-persistent threat with Mujahedeen attacks being fairly common.>In addition, tensions are growing between the Patriarchs and the Apostolic lords who aggressively hold onto their power long after the fall of Zaranism.

Rolled 8 (1d100)>>97344683The Kingdom of KrieslendReligion: Apostolic Culture: CrownlanderRuling Dynasty: von LohengrinDemographics:>7% Imperial>13% Outremer*>75% Guntharran >5% various nonhumansA brief background: the Holy Grail Empire, famed for its many knights and a strict code of chivalry, leaped at the chance to join the First Crusade. Why? The Knights of the White Stallion have a rite of passage not necessarily far off from the Hajj of the desert raiders in which they search for the Holy Grail. While the knights failed to find the artifact, they did manage to set up a foothold that only grew with succeeding crusades in the following centuries. Proselytization of the natives succeeded but only due to the presence of the Guntharran Gregorian Church which was more approachable for the Zaranites. Tension has risen with the Guntharrans who are increasingly indifferent or even resentful towards their 'saviors' as the Zaranim are now a bunch of sweaty desert nomads and the non-humans safely deposited within their ghettos. Non-humans are often kept as slaves with the sole exception of the Gnomish Banking Clans which essentially run these ghettos as personal fiefdoms with debt peonage becoming an increasingly valid form of servitude. Gnomish peonage is a better lot than getting worked to death by humans after all... Davidians, as always, are blamed for most of the kingdom's problems. Imperials do view them poorly after all.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

There are also no missing clans or disciplines technically, the retards at the helm decided anything flavorful or unique should either get smushed together (Obtenebration and Necromancy into Oblivion, making every Lasombra a necromancer) or made into an amalgam ability like Vicissitude being protean + domination. As for clans, they either got renamed (Setites into Ministry) or they got merged into the Hecata for all the necromancer clans. It's incredibly retarded though and you're free to ignore it of course, but the system is worse in general. Still nothing stopping you from using your old books of course.
