You'd be surprised by what DPS those weapons can do in cqc, many people do exactly what you do, but I've found in MW5 in particular is VERY generous with ammo, so my build is to take a half ton of SRM/MG ammo, slap that as a heat sink, take the medium SB laser and SRM6 stream, put your weapon groups as follows.
>RA PPC FG1
>LA PPC FG2
>2 SBML/SRM6S FG3
>2 SL/2MG FG4
Stagger your PPC fire, don't just double fire as the resulting heat spike can fuck you and I've found that more heatsinks isn't always better, as unlike tabletop you don't instantly dump heat and you suffer no penalties for heat. When closing to ML/SRM range use those and stop using PPC's, and if overheating use the SL/MG's as you'll still run negative heat though slower and I've found that some damage is better than no damage.
>>
>>97177536
Realistically? Yeah. However the dumb as fuck floating crits make that a suicidal move.
>>
>>97177558
>MW5 Marauder
Take out the AC5 for a medium rifle and use that tonnage for more sinks and armor, the medium rifle is a AC10/PPC lovechild with downs syndrome but it's range does match PPC's and it's slow rate of fire actually helps diffuse the heat. Or just use LL/Heavy Rifle for a all rounder.

Yet another energy zombie.
It's really gonna have to get physical to be threatening. This may be a feature and not a bug.
>Things I do like about this design.
4/6 Banshee
It's has a similar load out to the 3S. Downgraded the peepers to LL. Ditched the ac-10 and six pack. I assume because 4/6 ain't free. Would make for an ok succ war merc refit.
>>
>>97177622
>energy zombie
That's the point.
>physical
Yes, you're supposed to plink away with LL's while closing (also acts as a main guns for lighter targets) and then either charge or get into fisticuffs to punch the shit out of a target while firing your ML's and if you lose everything but the CT you still have 2ML/1SL and boots medium style. This is what a Banshee SHOULD have been, a skull helmed laser shreaking monster that is a distraction Carnifiex but is also dangerous straight up. Rather than a anemic sniper joke or the 3S(which is a great "normal" assault mech).

I had something similar
Had to get rid of all my snes, n64, gamecube, ps2, and 360 games.
As well as my warhammer vampire counts army, and a bunch of warmachine models.
I was horribly broke, homeless, living in my car, and had no room for it all, so it all had to go.

It had to happen, and the money helped me move into a house, but dam I still regret getting rid of it all years later

So, now you need to decide. Do you close your eyes to what you've seen and go back to sleep? Or do you come with this psycho burnout and do the impossible against the unbelievable and keep the future at bay for another day? What's it going to be? In or out?

Yeah? You dumb shit.

A quick shout-out to my favorite moment of campaign 2.
Only a few players could make it, so we did a one shot (one of many) that still would advance the overall story without leaving the rest of the party stranded.

They engage in a four hour long (IRL) investigation of a resort-turned-evangelical Christian retreat built on top of a failed Umbrella site.
After a ton of sleuthing and a couple accidents, they quicken the draining of the scenic pond which was being drained due to a suicide where a few peeps drove their jeep straight in and died.
Entire pump system / housing unit now deflooded in the hole filled with BOWs who were personnel of a rival corp who tried to poach Umbrella's Operation here.
BOWs are light-sensitive, so initially none seems amiss.
UBCS command orders them to investigate.
They do.
As the team rappels down into the hole, they begin working through the site and collecting what they can, when it becomes clear the BOWs are all over the place.
As they begin retreating, the natives get aggressive.

How to make a setting feel like it's not a not!x setting?
I recently got some of my friends into GURPS. They wanna play a fantasy setting for their first experience. I want to make sure the setting feels like it's own and doesn't feel like the characters are exploring not!europe or not!england. I don't think that is a great map (and representing it on a graph shows why). The top two players are (or can be) ~5 squares away from each other after deployment, while the bottom player will be at least ~9-10 squares away from anybody.

I dislike 3-player FFA games too, you really need a smart scenario to prevent SOME kind of team-up from happening. I don't even agree that a team-up is realistic, because gangs in that situation wouldn't have a perfect top-down view of the conflict and wouldn't be able to make unintuitive-but-strategic decisions like a player is able to.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

> how are you even supposed to track the turns and stats of each one?
You should be using BECMIs group initiative system eather than the more modern 3.x/5.x d20 initiative system.
And just write down a spreadsheet/chart of each monster and its HP, so you can just cross them off like a list.
>>
>>97177398
Why do you call group initiative "BECMI initiative system" when it's when it was introduced twelve years earlier in Chainmail and is the rule in AD&D and B/X as well?
>>
>>97176754
Just blob monsters together.
1 mini = 5 monsters of the same type.
Each mini has the combined hp and all the attacks of all its monsters, but will decrease its number of attacks as you decrease it's hp, for instance if that type of monster has 5 hp and you deal 5 hp, then it deals one less attack per turn.
>>
>>97177420

Plastic legion unit/upgrade/primarch kits would be awesome, but for 18 legions on top of the other armies on top of the current release schedule? That sounds like a really thin and slow process unless they put their ass into gear, it might be like a new edition entirely by the time each legion gets one at all. All armies should get their entire non-legacy army lists in plastic first, I'd imagine FW resin will remain relevant for characters for a while yet as much as I'd love a DIY Consul kit that will never happen.

>just an mkvii tactical squad and an mkvii assault squad really

100 pts of Tacticals can kill 130 pts of Lascannon Tarantulas (so, 2) each turn whilst losing 2-3 people. A Mastodon can kill 325–390 pts (5-6) of Tarantulas per turn, every turn.
In fact, if the enemy brings 10 Tarantulas to block the Mastodon, that itself makes the Mastodon recoup its points cost in about two turns! Lmao.
Tarantulas are speedbumps, sure, but they're not invincible. Perhaps a more than complete barrier would be a battery of them around an Araknae's pavise as a strongpoint, garrisoned by infantry, supported by dreadnoughts and artillery out of sight. Now that would be a proper barrier...
...but aren't dangerous Barriers exactly what the Mastodon was built for? Such an obstacle would be a viable target itself, and the Mastodon would stop before it...and commence the attack. It would be fucking cool, though

I'm new to wfb, what do you factor into your considerations when deciding whether to build muskets/xbows, or different melee weapon types? I understand xbows have longer range at the cost of lower AP, but in that case wouldn't, say, most dorf players use xbows on account of lack of cavalry and low mobility?
>>
>>97177629
I think crossbows are cool so that's what I modelled. In rare cases I might say they have handguns instead but that doesn't happen as much these days.
>>
>>97177629
There's no shame in bringing a unit of both. Sometimes you want crossbows and deploy them to counter skirmishers and light cavalry. While also having a block of handgunners to counter heavy knights/armoured infantry.
Monsters get the cannon.

Is there a super system that is purpose built to integrate RPG scale, Skirmish, scale and wargame scale scenarios into one campaign?

I think that would be pretty epic. You might first go on an rpg party scale infiltration mission to get some kind of advantage for the next session that is a wargame, where if you succeeded, maybe you can hide a unit anywhere on the tabletop.
I think I heard people saying that it was kind of attempted in some Old DnD releases and ACKS, but it never seems to really be all that focused on or displayed in action much.

Would totally be a niche gameplay style that would require a group both up for rpg's and wargames, but I think it could be pretty epic.

As others have said, ACKS II is specifically designed to scale from the individual-level to skirmish-level to mass combat. The main issue I have with it is that the mass combat rules require a hex grid, which is annoying and hard to procure at the right size. Also the wargaming rules themselves are a bit verbose.

Hey, cretinbecile, AoS skaven alone outsold ALL of TOW, and that is despite GW going 'hell froze over' and offering TOW trash at prices 50% lower than all of its other ranges. QED.

Then there is the fact that the ONLY thing in the whole TOW range that sold out was Cathay, thanks to anime/asian diaspora, army that looks far more AoS than the rest of TOW (and can be easily subbed 1:1 unit for unit for Cities of Sigmar AoS faction). Double QED, kiddo :]

>>97173023
I think that anon is dumb, but to play Double's Abdicate for him: I can see a lot of the systems they're developing for space travel in TW40K being ported over to a hypothetical AoS game and their weird Realms. Ideally an TWAoS would feel like a hybrid of TWW and TW40K, where you have 3-5 Realms with full maps to conquer, but those Realms have weird teleport points between each other, with certain factions having their own faction-specific realm travel as well (Lizardmen and Skydwarves can fly between Realms, Skaven can tunnel, chaos can brave the wastes or some shit, etc).

I'm not really interested in a TWAoS game, but they could make it neat if they did it right. Granted, I don't even expect them to do TW40K right.

Welcome to the New School Revolution General, the thread dedicated to games derived from the OSR movement.

>Broadly NSR games have a gm, a living world, are rules light, deadly and focus on emergent narrative, interaction and exploration.

Meta discussions or drama of the games and its creators aka shadowboxing with twitter, reddit and the OSRG (frens with osrbros)

Shadowdark, into the odd, mausritter, cairn, mörk borg (and its hacks), dungeon crawl classics, mothership, knave, troika!, whitehack, blackhack, old school essentials (we know this is just a retroclone), etc.

>Actually the guy who posted those threads here.
So it was always the same guy, despite your continuous claims that you are multiple people. Saving this post.

Go ahead. Ill stand by that i posted those threads, and the character sheets, but thats all i posted.
Every post thay you dislike is not a particular strawman, trollcow. I postef the threads and the character sheets because i didnt want /osrg/ to go from a general discussion thread to an echo chamber for a cherry picked contested definition of what a movement is. It foesnt matter how much you personally dislike a system and try to censor discussion, people will keep talking about it because its on topic and part of the OSR.

>I don't even know the rules of the game, to the point I'm unable to create a character sheet without glaring errors in it even on the SECOND attempt after getting corrected, but I care about it enough to try and troll the whole general to death.
Never change, fishfag.

>use the retarded catchphrases only one guy uses
>I'm definitely not the same guy though
>I admit that I did at least half the stuff I'm accused of however
lmao

You know what, I used to think separating the generals was stupid but now I approve of it just so you personally stay asshurt.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Fishfag is such an odious and revolting piece of subhuman refuse that he's managed to accomplish the unthinkable: bring peace between OSRfags and NSRfags.

Nicely done lads!

Any ideas for a good storage case for a bunch of 15mm minis? I was thinking magnetic if possible. Bases are all metal.

Is there a PDF of the new FoW Pacific book floating around?

Both are in Rick Roll Trove.

I'm wondering, though, if it's worth maintaining this Trove.
It's buried among the OP's other links so nobody looks at its content, and nobody recommends it when someone is looking for a rule.

And on top of that, we have idiots who post bad links and get their kicks from trolling rather than helping their fellow wargamers.

I'm visually impaired, so maybe that's why I couldn't find Checkpoint Charlie in the Rick Roll trove.
It's a useful trove, and far from a rick-roll in the sense of just containing a Rick Astley video
