It's likes asking "why are there no happy endings in post-apocalyptic fiction? why is everything so dark and chaotic?" Uhhh, that's the point. It's post-apocalyptic. I could, but there's been no need. There hasn't even been a good opportunity to use any of my Channel Divinity options or even any of my Lay on Hands pool, since the damage has never gotten to a point where resting wouldn't recover whatever was lost.

I'm pretty much just acting as security for the time when we stop to rest and something interrupts us, but I also don't anticipate that ever actually happening.

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

I've played alongside a guy who really loved to flex their oldfag credentials about how he once played at a table with Arneson or how he had Gygax's signature on the first dungeon master's guide or some shit. He was the most obnoxious, annoying, derailing piece of shit I've ever played any game with. I've also run games for literal children who were better players than the highly opinionated, stubborn oldfags who prided themselves on their expertise and deep knowledge of TTRPGs.

The old players get set in their ways and believe they already know how to play and don't need to change their habits. Everyone else does. Their egos and undeserved confidence in their mastery of game systems makes them feel smug that they are the truest authority at the table, even as they misquote every rule and cite made up houserules or something some other GM allowed as justification for them to always get their way.

Honestly going as high power as you possibly can and playing exclusively in hell queue is the only time I've ever had fun. And even then the format is an absolute shit show where players can just win on turn 1 or 2 without you being able to do anything about it if you didn't mulligan into your perfect answer. Actually, making it 1v1 is the balancing factor. Duel Commander is much more competitively viable than cEDH for a variety of reasons including architype viability and actually being able to score an event.

I got an FDM printer lately and now I'm livid because I realised how fucking awful Pajeet47's prints are. Even with a 0.4 nozzle you can print smooth surfaces with great detail as long as you go with the lowest layers possible. Scenery, tanks, scatter terrain - none of those have to look like carved wood if you are willing to use just a little bit more of material and wait for a bit longer as well. I won't even mention how much the quality improves with a 0.2 nozzle.

I like it personally and making a map with a few papercraft objects and character stands is much easier done than figures. It's a lot more delicate though and if one of your players is a IRL Ogre with meat-clamps for hands you won't play long with your stuff.

Wooden or paper wouldn't be much difference in "sustainability" since a few sheets of paper can yield a lot of objects but wood figurines are much more durable.
That being said, proper woodwork is an art in itself and you are probably hard pressed to find people able to craft something half-decent as a figurine. I'm not half bad at diy projects and love working with wood for desks, couches cabinets etc but making a beautiful sculpt is really difficult and takes a lot of time.

I don't really have a preference but some papercraft terrain look pretty nice. I used to have a pretty decent sized collection, haven't looked in /po/ in an age. There were some pretty impressive creations there.

One thing about papercraft was that they don't stand up to handling in the long term. I remember seeing someone running a home brew game at a convention ages ago, she put a ton of work into a card/paper town and I'm just imagining the state of those buildings now, if they're even still around.
