Why do traditional games seem to attract the most socially undesirable people? Not trolling, I seriously would like to get to the bottom of this. I don't get it, tabletop games are social in nature so why do they attract anti-social weirdos, you expect these types to stay at home and video game. Why are some games MUCH worse that other when it comes to players, ie. Warhammer 40k is worse than historical Wargames, compared MtG to Chess, etc. Is there an explanation for this phenomenon?

I know I'm already flirting with cringe because the whole Batman/Joker thing has been played out for like a decade now but I've been kicking around the idea of a Demiplane of Dread for D&D loosely based on Gotham (But probably more Victorian), Batman and Joker. Before you roll your eyes too hard, I've been kicking around the idea that the Not-Batman is a Straud-esque Dread Lord of the Plane. Why would a hero be a dread lord? Because he actively subjects the world the horrifying freaks of the domain by refusing to do anything to stop them permanently. He's well aware of the death and destruction, and he likes to wax poetic about the virtue of not killing, but there are inhabitants of this domain who have been almost murdered multiple times and have entire graveyards full of family members because he passively let them die. He will actively fight people trying to end villains harder than the villains themselves because they justify his existence.
>>96477511>Killing someone and a newborn baby>because you someone called you a cuck>not monstrous

>>96490159>I guess I'm wrong if that's not the case.Well, like, Strahd and Barovia are a Dracula copy, basically for the sake of fighting Dracula, right? So it seems like, however it works, Frankenstein, Wolfman, Gilligan, and so on, should be able to fit; and Frankenstein's desire was to reanimate his monster - the horror (and punishment) in that story is the *result* of his heart's desire.

I love 930ct long boxes for board/card games but I have about a dozen of them on my shelf and I now require a better way to store them. The bookshelf is just not sufficient, too much wasted space between shelves. Too many stacked boxes. Any advice?
At some point, we all must question whether it's time to get rid of some of those cards.I have some several tens of thousands of cards, and I just keep them in all in large wooden box. All the rares, some 3,000+ of them, are kept in a smaller box. While I have some vague feelings of nostalgia for some of the commons and uncommons, and they all act like a record of my Magic journey, the vast majority are worthless. Were I to sell them in bulk, I might be able to get $100 for all of them, if I were lucky. I will almost certainly never use them in any deck, and the real reason I bother keeping them is because I have enough space where I don't need to worry about a box in a closet. If I ever came to a point where I no longer had space, I probably would just "gift" them to a friend, random child on the street, or sanitation worker. The rares though... While the vast majority of them are $0.10 rares that I could bundle by the hundred and maybe get $5 for, there's definitely several hundred that I could sell for quite a pretty penny. Basically, they're my "If I ever need 1000 bucks fast and have no other way of getting it" emergency fund.
>>96489659Stop buying magicslop, you fucking whale
>>96489931Get an app and scan all those rares. I recently got my "magic box" out from my parents house where it sat since 2014 and all of those rares and foils were worth $15k. I didn't even scan the commons and uncommons that were in boxes like OP.

>>96483186That Prisoner Dilemma video is interesting, though I think it puts too much weight on individual matches rather than the sum total of matches, as well as doesn't consider one other factor. The decks likeliest to go to time are ones that have long combos or an inability to close out games. Those sorta decks that need to jump through hoops are the likeliest to face the chicken game the most, and they are also likeliest to have the chicken game result in a double loss on at least two occasions - with them potentially losing otherwise throughout the tournament. So the decks that are likely to rise to the top are ones that can easily establish and break boards, which seems to be decently true with a lot of recent decks. Like it feels like most people get done by the 20-30 minute mark even while the games are still competitive? So maybe Konami is trying to push out decks with large piles of engines and long combos like Snake-Eyes and several earlier had without needing to create a lot of bans? Or they could just be ripping off Bushiroad because apparently those time rules are similar.
Hello I haven't played since Link were added...How is my favourite deck, D/D/D doing?
>>96487916It relatively-recently got support but it's still just a casual deck right now. It should be in a nice place if you're willing to grind it out, but in a nice *casual* place. It's totally unviable and struggles against a good lot of modern decks. This is also a Droll format, unless Konami shows uncharacteristically good judgement and bans that damned card in the upcoming list. People still have the nerve to call it a "necessary evil" when a lot of the current topping decks play around it.
>>96487916Recently started showing back up in top cut at some OCG tournaments:https://ygoprodeck.com/deck/d-d-d-627139https://ygoprodeck.com/deck/d-d-d-629985Mostly having some of their cards like D/D/D Wave High King Caesar as generic boss monsters in decks that use the Fiendsmith engine or D/D/D Marksman King Tell and D/D/D Deviser King Deus Machinex in K9 Vanquish Soul.

>What attributes do your game use?VitalityConstitutionStrengthAgilityDexterityCharismaAwarenessIntelligenceWisdom...>How do you use them?Myself, I'm brewing something where I want them used by pair, using Charisma+Intelligence for persuasion or using Constitution+Charisma to intimidate, so you aren't totally doomed if you didn't put points in one skill.>How many before it become too many?Comment too long. >>96485213>But always using 2 attributes mean he would average 5/10, so more as a dump stat:He'd only average 5 on anything Dex related. But the point is more to have a character that's going to be choosing a non-Dex option whenever possible, and would be the worst at Dex.And the examples there aren't exactly inspiring confidence. I assume Vit+Agi would be for dodging a trap, since it covers both avoiding and enduring. Triggering a trap intentionally is something that doesn't even seem like it should be much of a check. But it's also a bad example since Dex is still so useful in disarming traps. And he does have Cha+Int or Cha+Vit for persuasion/intimidation, or options like Vit+Agility to be physically mobile. But if that's the handful of examples that spring to mind, it really highlights the problem where unless you're doing social stuff, Dex is basically always ending up as the better option than everything else. And I think it'd be possible to split up some of this with Agility in order to reduce Dex's dominance, but I think that requires a more clear delineation. there isn't a clear distinction for Agi+Cha and Dex+Cha in terms of what they'd mean for conversation. I think what might work is to shift it to Device or Tinker, where Dex is instead shifted to be specifically about fine motor skills involving complex objects. That still leaves some things like crafting or disarming traps, but Dex might only be useful for crossbows, rather than a wider range of weapons. Awa+Vit could be bows, and Vit+Agi could be melee options. It also makes Agi the more clear option for fast-talk or lying, while Device+Cha might instead be forging letters or playing instruments. It lets you siphon away enough nimble/skillful tasks from Agi to avoid it becoming dominant, but helps avoid Dex being the same by narrowing its scope.
>>96487129>But the point is more to have a character that's going to be choosing a non-Dex option whenever possibleThat's why I rephrased it to reach that intent, If he is "maxed out" in the rest, he can't suffer a low combination.>I assume Vit+Agi would be for dodging a trap, since it covers both avoiding and enduring. If I keep AGI along DEX, yes. But as discussed, they overlap too much.>Triggering a trap intentionally is something that doesn't even seem like it should be much of a checkUnless your INT+AWA check tell you exactly what the trap does and it has a safe way to trigger it, you might kill yourself in the process. the obvious trap was to distract you from the real trap.>it really highlights the problem where unless you're doing social stuff, DEX is basically always ending up as the better option than everything else.Yes, a common problem, DEX is usually the safe bet.>I think what might work is to shift it to Device or Tinker, where Dex is instead shifted to be specifically about fine motor skills involving complex objects. The way I read that was fusing DEX into AGI and making a "Device/Tinkering" attribute.Maybe a word for proefficiency with tools/magic? Siphoning even weapons out of "great motor skills".It also siphon Charisma combination but there was already too many. Martial art would become VIT+AGI, weapon VIT/AGI+tools, trap disarm INT+tools, most talk based manipulation CHA+INT, unless physical then CHA+AGI, also resulting in archery being Tools+AWA. and having CHA+tools for instrument reminded me Red bard from Thunderbolt FantasyThat actually sound great if I find better than TOOls.
>>96488262>Maybe a word for proefficiency with tools/magic? Siphoning even weapons out of "great motor skills".Yeah, that was the rough idea there, where rather than being quite as broad as dexterity, it is more focused on tools and tinkering. And that sort of tinkering skill wouldn't really help when it comes to something basic like a mace, but works fine with crossbows or complex magical weapon gizmos. And then it leaves AGI available for the more physically intensive aspects of speed and movement, and also makes it more distinct in terms of which rolls should be assigned which. The name is a hurdle there though. Tool sounds a bit off compared to the other stats.Technical might work. Shortens to TEC. No matter what it would still need to to clarify the scope of the stat with the players, since it would be a more unusual one.
I wanted to make a game system that makes HP, magic, and any action really all one stat. Just call it energy.Throw a punch, cast a spell, get hit..all would take some HP. It was supposed to use proportions of the energy used to determine intensity. So much like you might up cast a spell using a higher spell slot for more effect you could dump more energy into a spell for more effect. The net effect was to have players think more strategically about when to unleash powerful spells and all of that.Would probably work better for a tabletop for like dragon ball Z but could be adaptable for anything else really.I was never sure how I would apply stats. Maybe something that would modify how much energy was used for actions.
>>96465923The speed vs. strength meme has probably been the most disasterous idea to ever exist. Not only that, making dex and attacking stat as if swinging your sword like a limp-wristed fop versus being a -IQ brute makes a difference.
The spicier the better. I'll start to get the ball rolling: MTG, DnD and Warhammer are actually good for the hobby. They get new people started in this hobby and they keep the trend chasers contained and away from the rest of the hobby.Appealing to the normie masses is a necessary evil in order to keep what you love afloat. Even if it comes with the negative baggage of doing so.Generals are good for /tg/.
>>96487291While monetizing everything can go and often does go too far, it's not wrong for people making these niche games to want to make a buck by doing something they enjoy. There's no one-size-fits-all way to play or run RPGs, and trying to find one is folly. Narrative.heavy storygames and lethal dungein crawls are both obviously real and tre RPGs, they're both fine as long as they fit a given group's tastes, and spending time and energy arguing about what real RPGs are about is silly. Not literally everything is political even in the current year. >>96488336>Bear lore isn't actually all that ridiculous, not every race is native to places with bears. It's even less ridiculous than that, because the checks are largely about Cave Bears and Dire Bears, both being monstrous versions. The DC 15 check lets you know that Cave Bears have Darkvision, and the DC 20 check tells you about how Dire Bears have a grab attack that deals automatic damage on subsequent turns. Something the Cave Bear notably lacks.>>96488487Similar case for the crocs really. Guessing that a croc will bite you with its big mouth is one thing. Knowing that the jaws are designed to trap you and keep you there rather than just ripping off a chunk of flesh is more detailed knowledge. And even in the example you pointed to, it's a DC 15 check to know that about crocs. That's a 25% chance for a random commoner to have that info, which certainly isn't bad. And ultimately I'd rather the designers at least try to put DCs to various aspects of monster knowledge near the statblock, rather than the DM just having to make it up on the fly.
