am i expected to spend resources making a "yargle deck" and then just queue for it raw in regular queues to get all these event quests done?
i assumed there would be an event or something. it's really just expecting users to do all this raw?

I think it would read a bit better if you made the inner spots bigger. Also don't use pure white or black for them, mix a lil of your brown with them. (In general, don't ever use pure white or pure black)

I want to play the superior PF2, but all the in-person groups I can find only want to play gay ass D&D 5e.

Fuck this shit hobby. Why does the far superior game have to be far less popular?

Most people in the hobby don't want a tactical skirmish game. All the "refugees" from that brief blip where people totally gave up D&D forever went right back, or drifted elsewhere once they realized PF2e is dogshit if you aren't into build autism.
>>
>>96499227
Well yeah, 5e has nothing to do with those other games. 5e isn't D&D, it's advantage rolls. Not sure what the confusion is.

>>96499229
>Most people in the hobby don't want a tactical skirmish game.
Then why are they playing a bad one?
>>
>>96498551
You could just, you know, run the game you like.
>>
>>96498551
If you're a GM just fucking run what you like, especially if you're the only one willing to run a game. Your players have no right no force you to run what they want and if that makes the group die so be it, no game is always better than bad game. If you're a player then fucking get off your ass and run it yourself and I'm sure at least your GM will support you.

Being the "common unimportant adventurer" doing random treasure hunting is fun and all but it never gives me the same hype as being a very special guy with relevant ties to the major events in the setting.

The solution is yet again to be found in Tolkien.
Even a nobody can get tangled up in the larger machinations of the world.
But have some patience
My players started out as regulars at a bar for former soldiers
They did get tangled up with relevant characters but as pawns at first.
Now 6 IRL years later they’re movers and shakers, they fought alongside kings and the pope and their council of respected, they inherit positions of important orders and are tangled up in the world and its inhabitants
Never once were they super special beyond what they made of themselves.
And no this is not a super grimdark Mudcore campaign.
They just wrote their own high fantasy saga rather than inheriting a role

Two things:
1) It's a statblock, and those are always boring as fuck
2) It actively incentives players to not give a fuck
And I can predict with certainty that you are going to bring up some retardation in tune of "b-but muh friegshiet" as a counter, which means you also have a victim complex.
A character who exists solely for the sake of placeholder is always going to be boring, and that's the definition of human male fighters. It's the "I don't know, but I want to play" type of deal.
And don't worry. People do this shit with other pre-sets, too. I'd actually argue that Gimli Clone #7281 is even worse, because that's someone aware that people are going to eye-roll at their utter lack of effort, so they cover it by making their flat nothing into a flat nothing dwarf.
>b-but how does it matter
It means you don't give a fuck. And if you don't give a fuck, why are you playing? It's a suboptimal build in almost every feasible game, so it's not even about muh build autism, it's deliberately flat nothing as a character ("oh, i'm just a guy" - and it usually also means playing a self-insert, too) and it's fucking annoying how bunch of idiots think they are making some sort of political statement or owning some imaginary boogeyman, because they deliberately made flat nothing character.
>>
>>96499146
And to continue:
I run open tables each Wednesday in the local library. Every time char-gen is part of the today's game (meaning the system is simple and/or non-complex one or char-gen is fast as fuck) and the game is fantasy (no matter how boiler-plate), and people make a human male fighter, I already know what I'm up to:
A silent Bob who will spent the next 4-6 hours scrolling on his phone under the table, paying minimal attention to the game, never engaging with the scenario and being also absent-minded during combat. They aren't going to contribute to the group, and they aren't going to engage with the game, either. If they will utter more than 100 words through all that time, it will be some off-topic or a chat during a break.
So why even showing up and taking up a slot?

Sorry anon, didn't notice this until today.

Good GM's are typically fairly comprehensive in their posts. It goes without saying that the more detail the better. Who they're looking for, what the setting is, background. Whatever. It's usually a waste of time to try your luck on someone who could only muster maybe two paragraphs at best.

Unless the pitch was very solid I ignored most posts that didn't have a google form. If they rely solely on comments or direct messages the GM is probably going off of a first come first serve basis and it's a big waste of time. Also if there's a form, there's usually even more detail on how things are going to be in it.

That's kind of it for me honestly. Since this isn't 5E there's thankfully a lot less trash to sift through because people tend to (but not always) care more about the game and how it's run.

It will take time and you still have to be kind of lucky, but I hope you get into a game that's fun for you eventually.

While being a system intended to solve the ivory tower design of PF1e, it only makes it worse.
About half of the classes are just worse versions of another class, spellcasting as a whole is COMPLETELY fucked on this front (over 90% of spells are completely useless, often in deceptive ways that would trick a newer player into taking them).
Skill feats are intended to separate flavour feats from combat power ones but not only fails at that (due to the existence of things like kip up and titan wrestler) but also the rest of them end up being feat taxes for shit that you should just be able to do, like intimidate someone with a menacing glare.
There's such a deep obsession with "balance" (which actually just means that certain classes aren't allowed to have fun, because the restraints and limitations of said balance are entirely built around letting two specific classes have fun and making everyone else suffer) that several classes are completely stripped of identity and personality, having to slowly buy back a tiny fraction of the core features they would have had in earlier editions at the cost of their actual effectiveness. Ironically for a system that has kneecapped itself over a balance obsession, it's incredibly imbalanced, and it's much harder to fix that skewed balance than it is to make a curated list of player options in something like 3.5/pf1e.

In summary, it fails at almost every single one of its stated design goals. It was an attempt to make a hybrid of D&D 4e and PF1e but somehow manages to inherit only the flaws of each.
It's not so bad that I would refuse to play it if one of my friends wanted to run it for the group, but it's a real mess.

Spell Trickster should have its feats have requirements for traits (and areas) instead of affecting specific spells.
Actually just scrap the whole archetype and give a bunch of these to choose as extra feats for casters.

The first bocks looks unclean because of the blob-escape in the top left. Maybe adjust around there with the golden outline, it looks cool but gave me a bad first look.
The font is good but the alignment/centering is dreadful throughout the entire thing, use left-bound or justified to taste.
The bullet points suffer from above but look a bit basic regardless, maybe use something other than dash?
The box beneath that is not a template box, not aligned to the one next to it and has a lot of empty space, I get that it may be a placeholder but just pointing it out. That the size is wrong, that is.
The binding system seems like a good idea if the options are pushing you to overstep (as they should) but alignment hits the hardest here and you might have underexplored this. Gladly have more tiers, maybe merge the box with the box next to it and add the content of the left box as a line above the columns with Corruption punishments. Informing the player of "punishment" in advance and having them come back to ponder whether their next choice is really worth it is very thematic and good design in general.
Mage Type: their*
Veer'tath: claustrophobia*

Image choices are good and consistent to my tired eyes apart from Eximus, he looks a little pressed into the mould. General impression is that the sacrifices are overtuned, not only are the abilities a bit "gamey" and if I am fighting mobs as that evokes I wouldn't want to be a cripple, but also I don't see how I could even substain more than one at once to start thinking about synergies. Balance is impossible to gauge because there is no discernible threat or challenge to benchmark against, something I hope you will change on page 2 at the latest.
Overall the core systems are well thought out and solid, though harsh. As always I recommend you present some more stage/world, threat(s) and maybe some more personalization. The visuals are very clean outside of my gripes, though the centered alignment actually works demons
>>
>>96497309
thanks. So about the sacrifices, are all of them too harsh? or just too hard to use together?

>Gladly have more tiers
Yeah I got unsure how punishing the corruption should be at certain levels especially since the demons have a cost while active.

As a reminder, 100% of Void Circle necromancy spells are written by Deathlords, 90% of Labyrinth Circle necromancy spells are written by Deathlords and 90% of the rest are written by First Age Solars high on the Great Curse crazy enough to undergo necromantic initiation despite their very comfortable life, with only a very small fraction being written by hekatonkhire, nephwracks, and young First Age Solars who, again, would've been crazy enough to go necromancy despite already having very comfortable lives.

Of the shadowlands circle necromancy a large portion is likely going to have been made by the Deathlords, because their is no salinan working equivalent for necromancy. You need direct tutoring and empowerment to get into it, and most of that comes from the established and exceptionally evil great powers of the Underworld who would prefer the power of necromancy be kept firmly under their control, since it's pretty specialized in fucking over and controlling their own forces.

Necromancy doesn't need to be fundamentally evil when necromancers have historically been bad enough to explain the spell list's bias.
>>
>>96498462
Point is, Necromancy sucks and is boring and gay and lame.
>>

You're not wrong, but if someone wants to homebrew spells that make it less one-note and ass I say let them, so long as balance and themes are maintained otherwise.

>raise undead...

Undead can be utilitarian in application in ways that don't make the world worse - a necromancer could defend a village from bandits using corpses rather than conscripts who'll be killed horribly, zombies can be made to do physical labor to shore up shortages on the living end, and ghosts or other intelligent undead can tutor the living without horrible negative consequences. You won't get that kind of flexibility out of a blood ape.

I hope the head is a separate part so you could replace it easier. Cutting it off over the gorget seems like a pain in the ass.
Then again, even if you make the mini white and give it an alright-looking head, it's not something I'd buy because it's extremely generic-looking and proportions are not my cup of tea. Imagine it's a white gigachad and ask yourself if you want to buy a generic guy with two pistols #21323 for an exorbitant price instead of printing something yourself or ordering from your local printers.

Right now the only /tg/ content I regularly consume is that I'm subscribed to Seth Skorkowsky. One of the very few YouTubers I think is both knowledgeable, likable, and entertaining enough to watch. There are other boomer tubers that make content, but they tend to be really dry and have low production quality. On the other side, there are plenty of other YouTubers outside of that niche, but their content tends to be retarded, insufferable normie garbage.
I like the idea of watching real plays of people at the tabletop, but to be totally frank it's just not much fun to watch people awkwardly play TTRPGs. I think it could theoretically be engaging, but I've tried and it always kind of blows. I have no idea what the fuck people see in Critical Role.

I'm not attacking you, I'm trying to make you think about what you just said.
Real originality is a misnomer, there's nothing new under the sun, only ways to mix them.
Expecting someone to imagine something that bears no traces of anything else he's seen or heard about would be like asking them to imagine a new color beyond the visible spectrum.

>Start intentionally nerfing myself. Working on more miners, another cart, and kitbashing another gyro to make slightly weaker/more interactive lists before working on more melee units for royal clans
I regret doing Xforce first rather than the other way around- I would've reached 2K points way faster focusing on elite and 90% easy to paint metal ironbreakers and such and probably wouldn't have had as many miffed opponents.
Any advice on nerfing myself in the meantime? Or any good missions that might kneecap me? I played King of the Hill with Wood Elves and just parked my giant thunderer block on it, so unless I intentionally sabotage myself that's out.
>>
>>96499199
What races are your opponents playing? Unless you are bringing 3+ bits of artillery with a blitzkrieg of gyros, I don't see how you're mowing down your opponents into putty.

>how to nerf

On paper, simply swap out one of your heavy ranged units with melee.
>>
>>96499224
The 3 I mainly play against run Tomb Kings, Wood Elves, and WoC.
I recently played and lost against a different TK player, an Empire player, and a Lizardman player, but unfortunately they're all old fantasy players so they're super busy with families and shit and only play once a month or so.
Personally I prefer competitive games where I get my ass handed to me than casual games were I win, but I understand that's not everyone's thing.
>Unless you are bringing 3+ bits of artillery
Guilty. I guess I stop doing that if my opponent isn't super experienced with dealing with them.
I don't know if it's competitive, but a block of 20+ thunderers with shields, expeditionary marksmen, Burlock, a Runesmith, and a BsB with a +1 combat res and 5+ ward save rune has been pretty effective, particularly against large targets. I can throw a sapper in there for extra defense too

I've really been enjoying reading through Runequest, so I don't understand why it seems so underrated in modern gaming.
There doesn't really seem to be much interest in the current edition compared to early ones.
I was hoping that there could be more excitement over its potential.
Especially with the changes coming.

>>
Since no one has outright said what happened, Chaosium recently announced a new edition of Runequest that was meant to be more D&D-player friendly - less lore heavy and the rules replaced strike ranks with a weird, board gamey phase system that played like a clusterfuck. Chaosium has since said those rules were to be scrapped and replaced with a more condensed version of the current rules.

If they could just find a way to convey strike ranks in an easy-to-read manner and hold your hand a little bit with the setting, I think the game would be a lot more popular. The game is ran by people who have been playing it for 40 years and sometimes I think they forget how to invite new people in without scaring them off.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image (follow the URL to get to a folder with some files, read the files to get to the archive). Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: What is your opinion on the art in GURPS books?

They're not so much as meant to be enemies but more of an example of a people that have been broken and grinded down until they completely gave up on resisting the dark lord. They will absolutely betray the dark lord if given the chance (so fanaticism wouldn't fit) but as soon as a proper servant of the dark lord appears they instantly prostrate themselves..

Yeah, that's someone who is essentially 'broken'. Easily cowed and browbeaten, virtually no self-control. What you would expect from a small child, or someone who has been systematically abused in such a way they have given up trying to resist. It might be appropriate for those living in a repressive regime, but consider that even normal Will 10 people are fairly compliant when social pressure is directed at them. A population with average Will 6 would be incredibly servile and pathetic. Will 8 or 9 is probably enough.

Thanks, I think I'll go with 8.

One Shot Adventures has one or two western-themed adventures for GURPS, though they lean heavily into pulp-horror with stuff like haunted mines and vengeful native shamans.

There's also a Pyramid article about expanding Action stuff into other eras (including old west), and the 3e Old West book will certainly have a bunch of useful info and ideas even if the mechanical parts won't be super relevant.

Assuming a cinematic campaign, instead of wasting a ton of points into kick techniques for lethal kick and so on, would it be fair to just buy Natural Weapon (legs, small piercing) for 3 points?
Maybe I'll add trained by a master as a pre-requisite to buy Natural Weapon (pair of limbs).

Thanks for the Fog Cloud recommendation, I totally missed out on that spell when I was looking for stuff to pick and it seems pretty useful, especially since it's 120 feet range. I'll definitely consider that one.
Most encounters we go through are relatively easy when it comes to swarms of enemies, goblins and whatnot, but our DM likes to throw "boss encounters" at us pretty often. There was one recently that spooked me. A massive undead gorilla that could move 40 feet and had a legendary action to jump 60 feet and cause everyone in the melee range of where he lands to make a CON saving throw or get stunned. And he had multi attack. So that thing stunning and attacking you is a death sentence.
Now that I'm getting level 8, I'll be getting Sharpshooter so my goal is to always be at 120 feet away from the boss whenever we do a boss encounter, just to avoid creatures like this one. But DM also knows I'm getting Sharpshooter next level so he can design bosses specifically to bully me, which is why I want more defensive abilities. My only big issue with that is, my own darkvision is only 60 feet, and there's a chance I might be unable to see the enemy, depending on where the party members are. That's why I'm seriously considering getting Eldritch Adept - Devil's Sight at level 10, if I live that long. As Arcane Trickster, I have spellcasting so I'm eligible to take that feat. Alternatively, it's either Tough for 20 extra hit points, or Resilient (CON) for 10 extra hit points and proficiency in CON saves.

I allow whatever the fuck the players want to do, because I'm not a faggot. What, am I gonna prescribe them what kind of relationship they will have with people in the setting?

If it's the single boss fights that give you trouble, then if you get into the loop of Shoot>hide, >Shoot>hide, Shoot>hide, then you'll stay hidden between your turns and you won't have to worry about the boss jumping across the map to hurt you since he can't see you and will free you from the need to have those action to cast defensive spells.

If your dm starts doing multiple creature boss fights so one of the bosses stays on you or tries to fuck you with plain maps with no cover or shadows to fascilitate hide (which is boring and kind of defeats the point of the rogue, but some dms are antagonistic like that), and you also notice he has these giant + to hit on his bosses that basically never miss, then shield isn't as good since the boss will always hit anyway and then mirror image is good since it will neglect any attack no matter how big the hit bonus is if it hits an illusion.

As someone who plays on a grid, these 120ft distances are kind of rare, but perhaps you play in very big rooms. And if your dm is big on light rules and you often fight in darkness then I suppose darkvision could be useful. Most tables just handwave that stuff as "eh, it's a bit dark but you all kind of see what's happening where the fight is" but again, maybe your table is strict at that stuff. Also, like you yourself said, your dm is already making custom abiltiies to hunt chase you down across the map then he likely won't stop just because you increase the distance, he will simply up his game too, and wasting an entire feat for darkvision is really costly. Devil's sight does open you up to picking up the Darkness spell which you could cast on your ranged weapon to run around with it. How the dm would interpret that darkness would be kind of iffy,if you're in a poorly lit room it could blend in to make it easier to stealth around and give you permanent adv. on attacks and disadv. on theirs. If the room is brightly lit, makes it obvious you're in the shadow though.

Which class (and subclass) would you recommend if I want to feel like pic related and be a blaster who turns enemies into nuclear ash (5.5e 2024)

depends on how extreme you're willing to reflavor

Wait a minute, so if "the Old World" is set centuries before Warhammer Fantasy Battles has black Empire troops, female Bretonnian Knights and Dwarf Warriors, does this mean some horrific regression happened by the time of Karl Franz???

Seriously how would they address this?

Yeah, as africans. Not as a replacement for europeans.
>>
>>96499062
No, but colonial armies aren't some modern structure. I'm sure the WWII axis has a very special place in your heart. You understand Italians used locals from the African colonies they had in their local armies.
>>
>>96499081
Can you imagine them depicting a black character with tribal scarification? They don't have the balls. It's depressing, actually. They don't dare depict black people as being primitive, but that's what their precolonial culture is. So they have to present them as cultureless insertions with no distinguishing elements other than hairstyle.
>>
>>96499245
They sort of did that with some of Warcry Warbands, which had some African tribal aesthetics, but it's easier to get away with that by saying their Chaos cultists and having multiple different skin tones on the official paint job
>>
>>96499245
It's so weird, really: they want to be politically correct and not portray them in an 'offensive' way, but all I can think of when they 'put the African in the European armour, speaking only English' is how people native to wherever went to Europe/became slaves, and then had to get their Christian names. Like how Pocahontas became Rebecca Wolfe.

I mean it shouldn't be too hard for them to just do like Marvel's Black Panther and make everything look traditional African-esque, but sci-fi or something like that.
