On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?

Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

Presumably the exact age would be cultural, like it is with humans (there really isn't any specific biological reason why it's not OK to have sex with a 17 years old but it is OK with an 18 years old, 18 just happens to be the number we've decided on as being old enough to have the necessary mental and physical development to definitely count as an adult). Probably whatever age they reach sexual maturity plus a year or two to make sure.
>>
Some aliens may reproduce by having pollen spread that fertilizes whoever it touches rather than copulation, consent probably isn't done the same way with such aliens.
>>

I'm so sick of this "muh 4 limbs is most optimal" line of argument. Our number of limbs has NOTHING to do with some sort of biological optimum. Our number of limbs stems from our evolutionary history from how our bodies develop during the embryonic stage. If there was some sort of evolutionary pressure towards small limb counts we wouldn't see arthropods with limbs numbering from 6 all the way to over a thousand depending on the clade and the species.

The reason landbound vertabrates have 4 lims is because we evolved from a 4 limbed ancestors, and the way our bodies develop makes it very, very hard for extra limbs to be cleanly added to our form. That is because the bodysegments/tagma in chordates are heavily fused, including our limb producing segments, thus essentially in order to produce new limbs you'd need a series of mutations that solely duplicate the parts of the genome responsible for limb development, in a way that these extra limbs still cleanly connect and join the rest of the bodyplan.

In comparison, something like a centipede, whose bodyplan retains entirely unfused limb producing bodysegments, can just replicate those segments as they grow in size without any issues, as if they were just adding identical beads to a rosary string. Whereas for vertabrates, if we use similar comparison, the parts of our bodies from which our limbs grow out out, are all tangled up in the same body segments that also develop our internal organs and shit. Essentially, our torsos are a product of multiple bodysegments fusing together in our early evolutioary history, leading to the 4 limb configuration.
Same process is why insects have just 6 limbs, or why spiders have only 8 limbs and so on. Once body segment fusion happens it is very hard for evolution to untangle it.

maps and mapmaking. more specifically, there's something that's been bothering me for a while now. There are endless skirmish-scale settlement-scale and topographic-scale square grid mapmaking tools online, and that's great.
There's plenty of topography-scale hexgrid mapmakers too, presumably because of D&D's ancient use of hexgrids for overland travel. and that's great too.
There arent many hexmakers ive found for settlement scale maps, but i've had some luck torturing them out of the battletech mapmaker in the megamek software, or other videogames that generously offer to print the output
but
for the life of me i cannot find a decent skirmish-scale hexgrid mapmaker. i must have tried a dozen programs by now, but the ones that offer hexgrids are either borderline unuseable or just put a hexagonal overlay over a square grid. it's ridiculous that after decades of computer tools for TTRPGS the best i've found is GIMP where i have to draw the damn things by hand. Not to mention the endless enshitification of google makes it harder and harder to find niche programs to match what i need.

what are you anons using to create your maps?
do you know of any decent skirmish-scale hexmappers (that are free, or at least worth the price)?
what do you think of maps in general, do you even use them?

i'll share any spare maps i have within the size limit to get the ball rolling

well i want to bitch and moan about outdated analytical and design tools!

this map is a good example
i designed it to spite most tools and to reject most points of design philosophy
>Melan diagram
excluding single rooms and redundant loops, this entire map is reductively a single straight line with maybe one branching path
>jayquasing
there are two enterences (main door and brooken roof of the den) but otherwise...
no elevation changes, sub-levels, branching paths, loop-backs, sub-spaces or warps, sub-dungeons, midpoint entries or hidden paths. it relies entirely... on dynamism.

>some bandits have been operating out of this ruined structure (based in the den, which they have sealed)
>it is actually an undead settlement, who they are exploiting to defend their base
>the inner ring cannot be accessed without taking the key from the guardian in it's chamber
>the undead if alerted by themselves or the bandits will rally their full force (barring those locked in the inner ring), leading to an unwinnable fight and forced retreat from the hideout

sell me on this. does it have options to snap walls to the hex grid? how many terrain options do i have, can it flexibly do building interiors? it looks good from what you've done, but everything about its marketing and distribution model makes it seem like a piece of shit. i already have free (bad) hexgrid makers, i dont want to waste time signing up for something else that wont work right

There's a free version. I used free for years before I decided I was getting enough out of it, every week, to start paying for it. The free version is good. The paid version is better.

I was just curious whether you understood that the tool you're asking for already exists. Inkarnate has been pretty good for about 10 years.

Yeah it's got free draw, hex versions, lots of textures and brushes... it's good. There's a reason it's most of the maps you see on /tg/.

I have wanted to play RPGs for years and posted on /tg/ for like a decade, but have never found someone to play with. Finally my kids are old enough to play with me, but the problem is, I don't know HOW to play. Like, what is a game supposed to even look like?
All the rulebooks I've read go over in depth the character creation and mechanics, etc. but none really paint a picture of the structure and flow of the game and what it is supposed to look like.

Where do I start??

What are the pros/cons of this over B/X, which is what I was planning on going with
>>
>>97253357
Pros: ascending AC, more streamlined, officially free, modular (there are lots of plug and play rules available), no races as classes.

Cons: math is somewhat different from b/x (the one thing i remember is, for example, the cleric attack bonus progression is mismatched frok b/x) so you can't automatically translate b/x modules, or to be more precise you can if you don't give a shit and just eyeball everything.

I can't imagine this making sense to anyone who doesn't know what D&D classes already are and how stats work, or being helpful to anyone who does.
>"How do I make a character?"
>Well, strength (and constitution) is for melee weapon classes like fighter and barbarian.
>"Got it, thanks."
>>
>>97253006
You just listed some of the factors that might be important, without actually addressing the why and some of the how.

What do they want to do with their character? Each class has things that they are good at doing or are part of the class identity. Decide on which of those things are most important and then pick the corresponding class.

Next, what kind of background does the character have? This will matter both mechanically (will give you proficiency in skills that make sense for your character as well as a bonus to stats that are important for your character's class) as well as for roleplay (a character who grew up as a Sailor would be played differently than one that was a Farmer). The ones listed in the guidebook are mostly fine, but you can also work with your DM to make your own if you have a specific idea for a character's backstory (or if you want to be a Monk that isn't a Sailor).

You also get to pick your race (species now? I forget), which gives your character additional abilities and informs how your character roleplays. Think about what your character's culture is like and if you want to have certain attributes.

After you do those things and decide if you want to have the equipment each class and background provides, then you roll and/or allocate your stats, write down your class and background abilities, and pick your spells if you have them.

I admit i didn't check it out extensively (because a nth generic fantasy game doesn't suit my needs) and i can misremember stuff but i'm pretty sure "classes" in dragonbane are akin to brp professions (as in templates of abilities) you can safely rearrange as you like. Yes, but he didn't "hide his emotions" as much as he talked her around and she willingly lowered her guard before he sucker punched her.

The point of that scene wasn't "hiding from the force" as much as she had no real idea how to fight outside the constraints of lightsaber combat and approached every fight with a lightsaber as a duel. The idea that she could treat it like a brawl was foreign to her.
>>
>>97253343
actually I think it works better and expains how they were so quick to get TK troopers out the door, plus at the time project war-mantle was kept secret from the public and senate
correct me if i'm wrong, but you never saw TK troopers in a "public" setting (e.g local garrison in S3 E4) until after the military recuitment bill is voted for in S2?

the real issue is the vader comic burning seas arc, and the timeline placement of tales of the underworld
so the only logical conclusion I can make of it, because it's a mess, is both designs were made before we got the finalized design/stormtrooper armour won out
>>
>>97253355
I forgot about the desix episode having TK troopers
so the answer is "I don't know", maybe TK troopers were meant to be more elite than stormtroopers hence the commando training and placement at facilities like tantiss, but got mixed in with the stormtrooper corps once the military recruitment bill got passed

unfortunately this is just me making shit up to try and explain a mess of lore, I hope they clarify it
>>
>>97253235
The point of the training was to give her a paradigm outside of Jedi Academy formalized dueling or adjacent to it, which was something her brother actually had.

He was the sibling of gudako.
He ate the lostbelts and made them a part of himself
I need to think a bit more about the ending before being able to give more informations.

It's ESPECIALLY amusing if that child is GOHAN.

What's REALLY cringe is that one of the staple foods on Earth is named after an underwhelming jobber.

Psst.
Gohan is gay.

Most Yu-Gi-Oh! discussion encouraged. Post OC, write dumb fanfics with bad CaC in them, duel each other, have fun, etc.

Literally every BE deck that has topped runs both the primite cards AND the crimson dragon package. However, if he's not running the primite cards (i assume he's using 2-3 neo kaiser and bingo machine?), and he's also NOT running the crimson dragon package, then what is the payoff of the deck? Just double spirit (that tags out into ultimate spirit and moonlight/lightstorm) or spirit + seals? Brick-eyes gets raped by nibiru either way, might as well go for the giga board that crimson dragon facilitates.

A budget list (no primite) always wants the crimson dragon engine, because its most minimal endboard is bad compared to a primite one, drillbeam does make all the difference. I'm genuinely not sure what exactly is stopping him from running it, because all the cards got reprinted this year, meaning they're cheap. Sifr is the most expensive and it costs about 3 burgers.

Magia obviously.

I don't get why reddit and pro-trads support those cards. No, faggots they shouldn't resolve more

I haven't bought sealed product in like a decade, its not functional for draft, not functional for new players and largely wasteful.
So tell me why this game hasnt adopted the LCG model yet? It would be better for competition, sets would retain more value longer and there wouldnt be nearly ss much cardboard clutter.

Well gee shitlock, it's a mystery to everyone. Maybe they just hate money?
Do yourself a favor and think about the things you write before you post them.
