Honestly I'd have made the Liminals actually just Spooky Ghost Deebs.

Basically they're Dragon-Blooded who've been exposed to the Shadowlands for so long that their Exaltations have Speciated away from the standard Dragon-Blooded set of Elemental Castes
>>
>>97340800
Like most of the Castes line up to Underworld Elements.
Just swap Flesh for Pyre Flame, Breath for Ash, Soil for Void and Marrow for Bone.
>>
>>97340800
Not even. I would have just made them literally just DB, but using Charms that only work in Shadowlands
>>
>>97340800
I would've made them the ghosts of Terrestrial Exaltations. Exaltations are a third soul, the Celestial Exaltations reincarnate but the Terrestrial Exaltations just kind of fall away when the Exalt dies, and it would make more sense if they left some kind of a ghost, even if there's a lot of waste involved and a lot of Dragonblood need to die for one Liminal to appear. No Cryptmind, just natural processes leading to perverse outcomes. There's a lot of ways you can tie that kind of thing into the Usurpation and tensions in the First Age, and even into Immaculate stuff if you wanted.
>>
>>97340910
That also makes sense. Basically they've had a few things changed:
>Their Charms only work in Shadowlands
>Their Elements are now those of the Underworld
>They use Necromancy and not Sorcery

The Other Deeb Subspecies I think about a lot arethe Following:
Autocthonian Aspect Deebs
>Artifact Focus over Sorcery
>Can Attune Artifacts of the Magical Materiel associated with their Aspect in addition to Jade
>Can now Inherit Charms

Vitriol "Aspect" Deebs
>Use 3e Infernal Charms in an existing DB Aspects Ability Spread.
>Have a new Element [Vitriol] that they can apply to their Elemental Charms.

Hello anons, how is pf2 these days? I haven't been keeping up with it since slightly before the remaster
>>
>>97337502
We are getting out of a lull season. Outside of Battlecry, which was a pretty strong book all things considering, most of 2025 was pretty mid for PF2e content. A lot of "That was a thing" APs, even the big one with Revenge of the Runelords. This year they seem very excited to push out some bigger stuff, like a full dungeon crawl adventure set in Bastionhall or the Hellfire Crisis.
Meta-wise, nothing too much of a shakeup has happened since the remaster. Wizard is still hurting but the new Runelord and War Mage options are strong picks. Gunslinger got some significant buffs while Inventor got...not NOTHING, they are definitely impactful, but none that fixes the core issues people have with it. We have to wait 'til next month to see what they do with Psychic and Thaumaturge when they rerelease Dark Archive. And Magus and Summoner was FINALLY confirmed just last night that their remaster will be released with Necromancer and Runesmith in the Gen Con book for this year -- Impossible Magic.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

>I don't know Scarlet Heroes and so don't know what allowances it gives to it's characters.
NAYRT but it's basically a set of mechanical changes meant to make one character the equivalent of 4-5 normal PCs.

>Didn't old Gaza run Mordakain and Bigby simultaneously?
Mordenkainen, but yes, Anon is either trolling or just oversensitive due to the constant trolling ITT. The DMG does advise referees not to let players run more than one PC simultaneously, but it's in the context of large campaigns with many participants where players may each have more than one PC, and Gygax assumes the referee's player pool will be either too immature or too cutthroat to play the PCs as two allied but in some sense competing individuals, but will benefit their favorite PC at the expense/with the collusion of the other. He's correct that this kind of shit is liable to harm a campaign, but none of that applies to your situation.

>The DMG does advise referees not to let players run more than one PC simultaneously
More or less, but to me it sounds like you're overstating Gygax' caveats. The DMG encourages DMs to let players run more than one PC simultaneously under certain conditions, but it warns that the PCs must not be associates. Picrel.

>He's correct that this kind of shit is liable to harm a campaign, but none of that applies to your situation.
While I agree that a single-player session vs a multiplayer campaign are very different from one another, I still don't see why one would (need to) allow a player to run multiple PCs at the same time in either situation: That's simply what henchmen are for.

The moment you allow players to run multiple PCs at the same time, it simply never makes any sense to recruit a henchman, ever, since they're just worse PCs (lower ability scores, earn fewer XP, subject to loyalty checks and morale rolls).
>>
>>97341143
>Didn't old Gaza run Mordakain and Bigby simultaneously?
Yes, but that was before he wrote the DMG. So presumably his own experience led him to recommend otherwise. See my comment above on why anyone would ever recruit a henchman when he can just run multiple PCs in the same party. (And the limitations on number of henchmen lose meaning too,)
>>
>>97341284
I've read the passage, yes. I think the distinction between us is no more than that I would have underlined "in general" rather than "the multiple characters belonging to a single player should not be associates". I feel the rest of the paragraph makes entirely clear what Gygax's concerns with the situation are.

>The moment you allow players to run multiple PCs at the same time, it simply never makes any sense to recruit a henchman, ever, since they're just worse PCs (lower ability scores, earn fewer XP, subject to loyalty checks and morale rolls).
If a single player in a single-player campaign is allowed to have two PCs, it makes plenty of sense to recruit henchmen. I don't believe Anon suggested that he was allowing his player to make PCs promiscuously. I think the undeniable fact that henchmen are just worse PCs is a good reason to allow more than one PC; if Anon is refereeing scenarios written for a normal group, those expect 4-5 full PCs and some indeterminate number of henchmen. Compared to that, two characters with full advancement is hardly overpowered.

(Actually, I suspect many adventure modules for OSR games of expecting zero henchmen. The sensibility of writers like Gavin Norman often seems to me to be mired in new-school/trad assumptions about what an adventuring party looks like. But that's beside the point.)
>>
>>97341309
>(Actually, I suspect many adventure modules for OSR games of expecting zero henchmen. The sensibility of writers like Gavin Norman often seems to me to be mired in new-school/trad assumptions about what an adventuring party looks like. But that's beside the point.)
Fair issue to bring up. This connects back to your general point: My advice presumes an orthodox campaign in which there is no set goal or specific module that the player has to go through, so it's up to him to determine the amount of danger he is willing to take, e.g. how deep to go into a dungeon. Under my assumptions, the fact that henchmen are (slightly) worse PCs is not a huge deal: It just means that the player just takes proportionally less risk and everything works exactly as intended.

However, even if we assume a module written for kids who play with no henchmen, running it for a player with one PC and multiple henchmen is just a matter of having the party be slightly higher level or picking a slightly easier module.

The only REAL issue I personally is that of XP wastage: IIRC, in B/X Henchmen are allotted a full share of XP but only keep 50% of them, so a one PC + Henchmen party will increase in level slower than intended, as almost 50% of all XP are wasted. This is just a bad rule.

This issue does not exist in D&D, since there Henchmen get a half share and keep all of it. So the effect is just that the PC will be, on average, one level ahead of his Henchmen, but the party as a whole will be progressing as intended. No problem with that.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: What are some systems or you would like to include or see included in a campaign, but haven't been able to? They don't have to be the main focus of the game, having them only as something on the side is okay.

Is gunslinger overpriced?
25 points would almost always be better spent just increasing your skills and/or stats. Unlike weapon master, heroic archer and trained by a master, it doesn't provide benefits that seem worth the points.
>>
>>97339802
No. Gunslinger is actually much stronger than Weapon Master or Trained by a Master, and you can purchase it cheaper than 25 by specializing on type of guns.
>>
>>97339976
>no damage bonus
>high RoF don't benefit from rapid strike
I don't see how, what am I missing?
>>
>>97340018
You get halved ranged rapid strike (not that meaningful since quick shot can be fully bought off), free CQB skill at max level, +2 to hit with most weapons at all times, full scope aiming for one second of aim. These benefits don't sound amazing but in actual play, the guy with Gunslinger is vastly more effective than a similar point level combatant without it. He aims better, he's more mobile, he's stronger at long and short range, ect. It is brought down a little bit by a lot of its key features being purchasable separately through perks, techniques, ect.
>>
>>97339716
Mostly it just seems like the Flesh Wounds rule (Basic Set, p. 147). They get hit with deadly, or at least limb-wrecking, force and then only take superficial injuries.
The classic version of this kind of injury is being shot in the shoulder. In the normal GURPS rules the shoulders are part of the arms. I can see some kind of perk or campaign switch that treats them as part of the torso instead.
Arguably many action heroes functionally have Injury Tolerance (Unbreakable Bones; Limited, bullets) (Powers, p. 53).
Arguably, the normal GURPS rules for crippling limbs are a bit excessive, especially for piercing damage. It should probably be possible to walk on a leg that has been hit with a single AP assault rifle round unless you got unlucky and it hit the bone, or tumbled in a really messy way. There is a bit of redundancy in the muscles and tendons which means one fairly small hole won't totally wreck the limb's function. This is less the case with arms, which are smaller and require a lot more range of motion and fine control to function.

What is the counterculture of 2020s, that could be used as the basis for a contemporary countercultural tabletop game?

Take the World of Darkness for example, which was so grounded in the the counterculture of the 90s that it comes across as dated and strange today. How would you update the World of Darkness so that it better represents the counterculture of today?

Nightmare Mode: Talk about more than just politics. There's more to rebellion against the status quo and the prevailing social norm than who you vote for.

>The issue with that is that there actually are upsides to being a Thin-Blood, mostly surrounding softening the downsides of being a Vampire.
Not from a vampire pride perspective, as thin-bloods are often incapable of a lot of things that are core to being a vampire and by being less of a vampire and more of a human, even if they lack some of the weaknesses of vampire, they're intentionally ridding themselves of their superiority over the kine. Anyone who has embraced the vampire way of life would look at these weirdos making themselves thin-blooded as self-mutilators, depriving themselves of their natural power just to feel a little more comfortable in their undead bodies.
>>
>>97341257
>Not from a vampire pride perspective
...Which is rather overwhelmingly indoctrinated into due to the lack of natural reproduction, and so shenanigans like this could well gut the intake with a return to "normal" society.
>>
>>97341286
Not really, almost every vampire who survives for more than a year comes to terms with their condition and accepts that they're superhuman. It's the nature of the Beast. Vampires who despise their condition but not enough to kill themselves aren't that common.

However, a lot of freshly embraced vampires could certainly be lured down the path of willingly heightening their generation and becoming thin-blooded, along with some of the older and lower generations. They're still not able to return to human society, they can't walk around in daylight without suffering, they still suffer from the Beast, they can't eat food without throwing it back up again. However, they will never be able to sire new kindred, create ghouls, forge blood bonds or wield the more powerful disciplines. They would never be able to rule the night in a way that a true vampire could and they would never be able to truly live among humans like they used to. They would be transforming themselves into mockeries, less than vampires and less than humans.

>it's just a regular bolter with a different ammo
Until GW realised retconning that would let them sell a whole new upgrade kit
>>
>>97341270
you can just use regular bolters, but that's boring and gay. Especially sad considering GW is charging $194 before tax for 10 undersized bodies missing any weapons. Then you have to go steal 10 bolters from a terminator kit on top of that AND they don't even get to look cool at all?

And it's not simply a SoH issue. All the melee kits suck cock. The $39 blood angel kit has 1 single perdition axe for the entire kit. And guess what? It's held in two tiny hands, so you can't even equip 1 terminator character with your perdition axe upgrade if you buy it, as they don't use the paired arms, the arms and hands are the wrong size and it's not compatible with any terminator bodies. Yet it's legal on every BA character (power armor, terminators, bikers, flying guys)

When GW eventually pulls their heads out of their fucking assholes they need to sell plastic upgrade kits with 4-5x as many of every rare weapon and at least 3 of the 4-5 being one-handed versions.

hi guys, I've long been interested in 3d printing but I don't have a space I can do it in yet (one day).
in the meantime, there is a simple bracket I would like to print as a custom mod for a computer case. I'm wondering, is there a place I can go to pay to get something printed for me? there is a printables link I have. any considerations I need to keep in mind, like requirements or specific materials?

There could be maker spaces around you, many libraries branch out nowadays.
How hot does the part get? PLA starts to get soft around 60C so maybe you would need a higher temp material, and those can have nasty fumes so not everyone can use them.

I'll have to try it, is there anything to think about besides it taking longer and causing a bit more wear of the PFA?

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

Where else does Fantasy 15mm? Preferably singles? I would have thought there would be a wealth of stuff for RPGs but I can't find monsters or creatures anywhere. There's Alt Armies and Ral Partha and that seems to be it for 15mm.

The only RPG I can think of that explicitly uses 15mm is Traveller with the Striker minis rules.
AD&D 1e uses HO scale (25mm) minis (in a weird config of three 1" squares to 10', later simplified to the 5' square), so that set the size for their licensed casters, and in turn the whole ecosystem.

Most are scale agnostic anyway, or at least more than wargaming, so you'd think there was a bigger 3rd party market for a wider range of scales like with wargaming. I guess that's the difference, wargames usually target a specific scale and that opens the market for 3rd parties.

I just epoxy glue mine to a penny, which is 20mm, then glue them to 20mm card squares. 1/72 is about 25mm a man, they fit best on 20mm bases. So the basing conventions for them are the same as any 28/30mm game. So just base them using the basing conventions of the game you want to play with them.

Counterpoint: Right is ultimately going to be full of unfluffy metalists and played by sweats. Left is more likely to have a narrative or /yourdudes/ battle. Tournyfags are so used to abusing the terrain they can't help but out themselves.

No they don't. In fact if you're gonna talk about McDonald's fries, a lot of older people remember that the fries were better when they cooked them in beef tallow. Does this analogy sound familiar?
