alot of people care more about being a protagonist or being the strongest one there is rather than going for a world thatll challenge their abilities or one that will give them a fulfilling or happy life, well, correction, they think being a protagonist or the strongest being will give them fulfillment or happiness or smth, when really it wont
>>
>>97273515
im curious about which one you personally like, although, maybe its stupid to ask what a persons favorite translation of a word is
>>
>>97273711
It's hard to make the distinction between what you and what you need. Besides, if you feel powerless in real life, of course you'd think being the über STRONGEST will bring you contentment.
>>
>>97273617
that's literally one of the goal you can choose
>>97273711
>implying that if you have power an happy life would not be infinitely more easier to achieve
>>
why do retards think that having power automatically makes you unhappy? and why do they think being weak will give them a fulfilling or happy life?

I’m working on a horror scenario, care to help out with suggestions?

The Premise: the player characters are all "test subjects" (probably former military, ex-cops, criminals, lone drifters and such) that were kidnapped or otherwise imprisoned by a sinister conspiracy of unknown nature or goals. They participate in "experiments" to "stress test" the conspiracy's "projects." Present day real world setting, on the surface.

Any ideas for monsters, unnatural tech, twists, set pieces, testing grounds and scares?

The experiments are to test the limits of how much the "reality" of the world can be fucked with before people notice too hard.

It starts as a slow creep before the overt stuff happens and everything is thematic to the situation.

butt fuck nowhere USA with perfect white bread american ideal townsfolk? They are all secretly monsters pretending and the uncanny valley ramps up until they mask off.

Random inner city USA? The faceless masses of people will randomly become monsters that hunt you down but non one else notices what's going on or your own presence even as they are attacked in the process.

Typical desert village except you have to hide from some super giant monster that randomly spits out smaller monsters.

Basically, boxed in experiences where the situation decays and forces the PCs to survive as long as possible fore they move on to the next box.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Very goated /osrg/ thread, bx newfag here coming back after a long break of 3 months and just having played session 20 with my group. But that's a story to share for another time. I came with another question and as Gygax willed it, the tq is quite related:
How do you guys track all the player run businesses and NPCs they enconter over the course of the campaign in a convenient and efficient way?
Special retard question: would you allow your players to have them or their retainers use their round to "forcefeed" another player a health potion?
And in a more serious way: how do you let players control/influence the actions of their retainers?

Welcome back!

>How do you guys track all the player run businesses and NPCs they enconter over the course of the campaign in a convenient and efficient way?
Pen and paper? Not sure what you mean here.

>Special retard question: would you allow your players to have them or their retainers use their round to "forcefeed" another player a health potion?
If the feedee is unconscious, yes. If he is up and fighting, lol no.

>And in a more serious way: how do you let players control/influence the actions of their retainers?
With loyalty checks. I've recently discovered the tables for obeying orders from WRG and they're based, I might start using them some day. Basically roll high = charge in, roll low = run away, and roll average = obey orders. Picrel.
>>
>>97273084
Use ACKS for market checking/turn over.

Also, you control henchmen, they are NPCs
>>
>>97273161
Thanks, very cool table indeed!

>Pen and paper? Not sure what you mean here.
Yeah you're completely right. In my 5e campaigns before (which I kept quite sandboxy) I've used RPG notes for android to track events, NPCs etc. Now running my first bx campaign I just do my daily tracking and strict timekeeping but simply losing the overview of all the NPCs involved and having to flip through all my notes when they pursue some of the NPCs for example. The business part is done separately and updated with the players during downtime. I just wondered what handy ways you guys use but I guess I should keep it simple and have some written NPC records at hand.

>>97273527
Yeah you're absolutely correct, as well.
I was probably too soft after our long break. It was quite ironic though, my ironman player who's been there every session and leads with a level 6 character still is shit scared after their last dungeon fiasco in the ancient red dragon lair found himself and the small group of few players and retainers but no mercs ambushed by a red dragon in the wilderness. The tank was heroically facing the monster while the ironman send his retainer to chug the dwarf down some health potions. I felt it wasn't right but I also didn't want to bumfuck them that hard after our long break...

No, that's not true. There were a ton of people who disliked it on the conceptual level and Holden very specifically thought it was stifling, even though he had the page number references for them. The fanboy stuff is right on the money. Dragonblooded Kill Teams became such a meme
>>
>>97273610
I literally could not give less of a fuck about Dragonblooded themselves, but right there in the text of 3e they are meant to remain a credible threat to fledgling Solars despite their degeneration and the Dynasty standing on the verge of collapse. If them being being able to pull off mortal-sorcerer-tier shit on their own fucking home territory is somehow wankery then I'd rather entirely cut them out of the setting because clearly they're fucking useless as an antagonistic force.
>>
>>97273709
I don't know how else to tell you that it's because of the bad impression all those years of fluffing them up left and the level of implied effectiveness. You're getting caught up in trying to in setting justify how it's okay but people who don't like what it represents were sick to death of it 3 presidents ago.
>>
>>97273709
The scars of a shitty fanbase run deep. I'm just saying I see how you could kneejerk and hate it.
>>
>>97273736
What it represents is Dragon-Blooded show some modicum of competence, and while I know that some really were sick to death of Dragon-Blooded showing any modicum of competence three presidents ago and no matter remain so today, that sentiment is a truly repulsive extreme of Solarwank.

Trench Raiding With The Lads Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

In ideal circumstances, your sniper is ignoring armour about 1/3rd of the time. This is wildly unreliable. Remember, New Antioch is a CQC faction, so the bulk of your faction's damage is going to be done in a 1-2 round period - if you need AP, then a 1 in 3 chance of ignoring armour is just not available enough.

Instead, you should give the sniper priest an auto rifle or SMG so they can stack blood reliably and kill soft targets quickly. Or you do the based thing and give the priest either 2 pistols and grenades or an autopistol and a pistol, which lets your priest be one of New Antioch's best melee units (since pistols act as clubs that use ranged +dice).

Sniper rifles are for models with middling shooting stats. Going from +4d to +5d on a sniper priest is a joke. Going from +0d to +1d and getting double the short range bracket on a rifle Yeoman is legitimately good.
>>
>>97271734
I know they are at the bottom, found that out when I got btfo'd the first campaign by game 8 out of 11.
My primary issue was that I didn't have enough gunz and modelz to force injuries early on when a jezzail with alch. ammo was at peak performance. I lost the first 2 games badly; in one, both my bull and alchemist were OoA before even INJURING an enemy model. By then, I was so far behind, and other armies so far ahead, that catch up was improbable, and I was forced to use lions and absurd weight of fire to win objectives and force draws. I haven't gotten so fucked over since... well, it's been a long time since I felt genuinely hapless.
My new plan is to maximize my weight of fire advantage early while planning for later acquisitions. I am hoping for 2-3 glorious curbstomps to accrue ducats/glory to hopefully stay one step ahead of the others, and when they do catch up, break even by dint of early success.
>>
>>97272621
Funny thing is the best way to play IS is to build tall with House of Wisdom, take your lumps with a mediocre early campaign. And then pull ahead with the flexibility of weapon stealing and the Homunculi that you can add to as the campaign progresses and are super cheap to revive if they die.

Writing General: 'festive' edition

Welcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product.

Im out of my depth here

TL;DR Im trying to learn how to run a setting I have no experience with. Looking for setting influence.

-

I would like some help with this concept, post apocalyptic science fantasy. The idea that the world was propelled forward by magic tremendously, but then cataclysmic events reset civilization, and now were living in the post era.

Im used to running Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Lancer, but this new group has requested me to run fantasy for them.

I agreed, but I told them I wanted to draw from influences that im familiar with, the closest comparison I can think of is the Televison Show Adventure Time where there was technology and then a fall, and now we have magic and some science tech. Disparate cities and no main governing body.

-

So, im looking to add to my influence, are there any pre existing settings ? Are there any fun things you've ever wanted to do along these lines ?

>Palladium's Rifts setting is pretty interesting.
It's a retarded boomer's kitchen sink setting.

>states the obvious
That's a big part of what makes it interesting.

I really really like this type of setting. I have my own and it sucks, it's kinda painful when you care a lot about something and that care sets impossible standards that conflict with each other.

I think the gold standard now, or at least a couple years ago, was Ultraviolet Grasslands. The wackiness was controlled by a straightforward structure of point crawl merchants, you can then stop at some dungeon or something but the book orders itself with that concept.
I've tried running it and I'm convinced only the author can actually run that thing, but it's still pretty cool.

If you like the Thundarr/Kamandi vibe check out Umerica. It's the US after some kind of catastrophe destroyed everything and gave us magic. It's pretty silly dumb with its references, like Disney has turned into an aztek style dead cult to the big headed gods they found there or Fort Knox is the only place that takes dollars because they think they have to keep them like pieces of art. It's dumb fun, but it has tables and mechanics for cars and tongue in cheek treassure that might help you if you want that tone.

If you want something like Nausicaa, Cloud Empress is pretty heavily inspired. It's more of a post-post apocalipse, a lot of the land is sustained in a very exploitative balance between nobles with old tech and villagers that farm most of the year and run from giant bugs during summer. But you can travel into the ruins of the old world and it's very clearly a futuristic scifi abandoned city.

Maybe if it were made by a more intelligent boomer with good taste.

Welcome to /wbg/, the thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art. Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have, cunt!

>my grandpa had sex with a succubus once and here I am.
Wouldn't that make more sense for Lilith? The mark of Cain was on one dude and I think you'd be better off focusing on the first murderer aspect and the generally sinful nature of his line than the mark of Cain even if his progeny were marked.

Also I think you're mixing too many mundane lines with too many supernatural lines. On the one hand you have the descendents of angels, descendents of a woman whose essentially a demon, the first murderer, and then just Seth and the first blacksmith.

If you want more mundane origins I'd look at the descendents of Noah since they essentially define the three races of man from the biblical perspective. The other alternative, focusing on earlier biblical history is focusing less on people and more on superhumans.
>Sons of Seth/Able (not that Able had kids according to theology but he's better known)
>Sons of Cain
>Children of Lilith
>Nephilim (you could have individual sub-races, races, or tribes based on the named angels in the book of Enoch)

That gives you 4 to ten races I think (forget how many angels are named in Enoch) and could give you some stuff to play around with. Beyond that if you want to play around with theological influences what some of the watchers taught men is described by for specific angels and the descriptions of the nephilim tend to be giant and generally somewhat monsterous.

In general I'd say

Mate, Tolkien already made the most of it in The Silmarillion for standard (pseudo)medieval fantasy with dwarves and elves.

Why do you need to cater to (post)tolkienian races? Taking off even the few ACTUAL tolkienian "biblical" themes (nominally, jews=dwarves).

You can either take the lineage inspo (which would probably not make much sense as a "race", but still) or go wild with new races (which would not be very biblical, but still, again). Just using the player handbook's races is very, very, very uninventive.

Some ideas for the latter:
Children of Adam and Lilith=the "still blessed" immortals of Eden, without the gift of knowledge
Children of giants/nephilim trying desperately to redeem themselves (yes, I did like Noah the movie)

I don't think making Tubal-Cain or using the Table of Nations as basis for "another race" makes much sense, as in those guys are pretty clearly humans. IIRC this is true of Cain's descendants as well, but I THINK they are supposed to have been pre-sacrifice Cain, so maybe you could claim you token evil race could be post-sacrific cainites or something.

Unfortunately jinns while definitely more apt to this kind of shit aren't biblical.

I have to admit I preferred the NWOD approach here. The image of vampires as predators of Jesus himself, their dark mirror, is more badass than "just" killing your brother because God had a very bad passive-aggressive way of communicating.

Ok. My point was that blatant Biblical themes work mainy in "our 19-21th century" type of urban fantasy. Even if you find theoretical justification to add elves and orcs, it would be organic only in the formula
>(N)WoD + KULT setting + Tiefling and Aasimar + Bright (2017, film)

Honestly it's kind of funny how Arknights now does Servant combat better then any of the actual Fate games

That's what I'd normally think the but the first sentence implies differently.

nta but you're just describing normal daycare, not fraudulent daycare

NTA, but he described socialism which is inherently fraudulent.

FGO fans can't read, but honestly, the game doesn't even let you read. Probably one of the worst content avaliabilities even among gacha.
