I think I've said this before but:
the best format for this kind of thread, would be that there's a requirement for everyone to link their post to one previous (accepted) post. Eg maybe the thread is about building a family tree? Then you must specify whose immediate relative your dude is. You describe a country? Then place it next to some other countries created by previous anons, and you MUST describe its relations with those countries.

I'm going to cap the technological level at 1453. It's the very end of the Middle Ages with firearms making their true debut in warfare, but also where a great rebirth is just beyond the horizon. The setting's Leonardo is just a little kid, his rise has yet to come but one can see great potential in those like him, their drawings perplexing the older generation who remember the plague and the great wars that left no time for such childish things. PCs however are too busy keeping the Crusader States up.

Adventuring is a hell of a career: chasing desert raiders while somehow deescalating religious tensions between all three major groups. The first are the Outremer: European types that settled in the Holy Land, the second are Christianized Arabs who converted but are ultimately playing second best in a kingdom that's not theirs, and the Ghazi Desert Raider types who still hold to not-Islam. You spend more time doing counter terror operations than slaying Orcs.

So far, three religions are eminent on the map:
>The Apostolic Church: the so called 'White Church' fell behind the First Apostle: Soll, or 'Saul' as he's known in modern common who became the first Pope. They hold that God made the world and left it in the stewardship of the Angels. Entire cathedrals are dedicated to the Archangels and every monastery has an 'alleged' divine patron. Conceptually, God is portrayed as a frequently merciless lawgiver who often gets drawn as holding a burning sword. The White Church managed to make itself the moral authority in its realm, with the Inquisition ruthlessly enforcing the divine law of the angels.
>The Gregorian Church: the Gregorians broke away from the Apostolic early on, becoming the infamous 'Black Church' which is, functionally? Very similar to the White Church. They have monasteries and archpriests with the Exarch functioning as a rival to the Pope. Where they differ is the greater emphasis on the Saints. The portrayal of God is similar to that of the White Church, but here he carries a whip instead of a sword symbolizing God's authoritative nature. The Church is far more decentralized than the White faith with the patriarchs being subservient to the lay nobility.
>Zaranim: the men of the desert. Worship the same God as the other two but differ much in prayer and structure. Women can't be clerics, nor can they be warriors, and only the word of the Zaran is taken as that of God's. Other differences abound as well: instead of angels they venerate a series of prophets, clergymen are always 'subservient' (hahaha) to an (often fanatical) king, and God himself is portrayed as a vengeful flame which is their religious symbol. Non-Believers, to the Zaranim, were created to serve them resulting in the raiders taking slaves and selling them to foreigners.

Nonhumans mostly fall behind foreign, polytheistic faiths.

After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session.
Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away.
And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.
>4e books are ~10-15$ now.

Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch.
Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings?

>The only real 4e thing about the game is the math progression.
I've found that in the majority of cases when people are comparing new games to 4e what they really mean is that the book has a readable layout and the math is baseline functional.
>>
>>97321384
Also that fighters are good
>>
>>97320914
4e hate was always a meme. Almost all of its most vocal haters never played it, let alone actually read the books. They'll claim they have but then when pushed for what specifically they don't like they never actually had a real reason. They'll lie and squirm and make excuses but they just want to be mad at something and 4e was their obvious scapegoat.
>>
Anyone ever looked this over? What are your thoughts?
>>
>>97329180
Going by the previews it seems okay I guess? Outside the flavor and maybe vamps into mid paragon instead of being end of heroic threats I don't really see a need for the book. From the previews it doesn't seem to do anything that can't be done by just refluffing existing monsters. If you don't have to spend money on it then use it I guess but I don't think its probably worth the $8 they are asking for it.

I am always super wary of 4e homebrew. Because of the much tighter math of 4e compared to other editions most homebrew stuff is just thrown together and ends up either unusably weak or way too strong. More modern homebrew has gotten better since the system has been flayed open for so long but that book is from like 2011/2012 when 4e was still in print and thus is sketchy on its quality.

If you are desperate for more monsters, even though 4e already has like 5.3k, then I'd check out the 4e Discord. They have a few of the premier 4e homebrew writers there who autistically fix people's fucked up homemade ones.

Its easy to misunderstand anti heroes and anti villains and most people call anti villains for anti heroes, when really they are not. Anti-Heroes and Anti-Villains, are not opposites of each other.

The Anti-Hero is not necessarily right, but when he wins, the world is generally considered to improve.
The Anti-Villain is usually right in their arguments. But if they win, the world is often worse for it.

Everything is machinedramon support if you try hard enought
>>
>>97330910
Not really since it plays out Machinedramon and Kimeramon letting you jogress again if its still your turn.
>>
>>97331160
Sure but the restriction denies any other possible plays which could require two level 6s. I understand it's a roundabout way to ensure the optimal play is Kimeramon/Machinedramon but it is an entirely unneeded restriction at the end of the day.
>>
>>97331332
I don't think there's ever a situation in the Composite build where two Machinedramons would be better than BT19 Kimera and BT18 Machinedramon together (fucking hell those two effects synergize perfectly) but MAYBE if you wanted to run Millie in a DM Kimeramon build and you had an absolutely ridiculous amount of cards in your trash already you'd want to play out two DM Kimeras and Assembly at least one of them. But that's retarded.

If your party gets a scroll of a Silence spell in the beginning of the adventure, and later, among other enemies and traps, spellcasters who have to say their spells out loud, sirens, and finally banshees, would you consider that clever, or at least good encounter design?

At the same time, if that cucks the bard and the spellcasters in your party who also rely on sound / spells w verbal components? Would you be ok if they actually use it in a sneak segment?

I think it's worth discussing how to give players alternative solutions to problems but honestly? I think they'd be too stupid to realize, but on the slight chance they come up with it on their own I think it's better never to hold their hand.

Anyways, post stories with this kind of neat interactions if you have some.

If we apply this logic, any encounter that's not randomly rolled on the spot is railroading, and I don't think you want to say that.

>>97329694
Logic isn't your strong suit huh
>>
>>97329694
You very clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
>>
>>97329673
>hoping
That's not railroading. The entire idea of railroading is forcing a particular outcome. If the party had a choice, they weren't railroaded. In this case, the scroll seems to be intended as a potential solution to the problem, rather than the only and singular way to go about the issue.

If the party has a crumbling wall they want to get through, it isn't railroading to leave a pickaxe around at some point in the campaign. The GM providing a solution doesn't fundamentally mean all other solutions instantly evaporate.

This is what you call a Timmy card. It's a card that has a stupidly powerful effect and statline tied to it, that has an absolutely horrible condition for resolving said stupidly powerful effect and utilizing that statline.

The effect when it hits the field? Extremely fucking good. It's basically the ultimate removal effect since it removes fucking EVERYTHING from play, and your opponent needs to draw like Yugi to come back from it.

The catch? It's not conveniently searchable, and more importantly its summoning condition is horrible. By the time you're able to fulfil its summoning condition, you've either already won the game, or stalled for long enough that you could've won the game multiple times. For all that effort, you could instead just tribute summon The Wicked Avatar (another Timmy card that isn't conveniently searchable) and backrow stun your opponent for 4 turns. It's usually enough to just win games on its own since spell and trap cards are kind of important.
>>
>>97329499
>>97331458
Also,
>10 cards on hand/field doesn't seem that bad of a prerequisite
It is. You fly through cards pretty quickly, but you don't keep those on your field or in your hand for long. If Tierra's summoning condition included the GY, then it would instantly be broken, but hand+field requires a very specific type of advantage generation engine that keeps things on the field while also filling up your hand with cards, including a copy of itself

Oh, and you can also use them to drill ya barrels, so it's a definite win. :)

It is probably not too controversial to say that the art of modern rulebooks is made with female representation in mind.

These women are predominantly filling important roles, such as archmages, military officers, or nobles.
But how come there is barely any art that shows them in peril, or at a clear disadvantage? Regardless of their status.

There is no shortage of men in peril.
Neither in classic nor in modern art.
