You should ALWAYS cheese every encounter. If you EVER end up in a situation that even remotely resembles a fair fight, just run away and wait until you can rig the situation to your favor. Use your fucking brain. Even if it is highly improbable for you to lose a given fight, statistically speaking, you'll still eventually croak if you keep taking those bets. Don't leave it up to chance. It's easier than you might think, you just need to use your noggin. It's not a video game. You can do whatever the fuck you want.Just the other night my party ran into a melee monster in a narrow ass room that they for some reason decided to ram their dicks into until someone died. When I suggested that we retreat for a bit and lure it into the room with the big ass statues so we can all just climb them and shoot it to death, they looked at me like I just escaped from the looney bin. They all died of course.

Why the FUCK is his power armor broken? The Badab War was 100 years ago. This dude leads a legion-sized band of space marine pirates and is one of the wealthiest and most powerful space marine lords in the setting, on par with chapter masters of the first founding chapters.WHY THE FUCK WOULD SOMEONE NOT HAVE FIXED HIS POWER ARMOR. In my work in progress fantasy setting, the planet is tidally locked to its star, with six moons (one of which has a 24.2h rotation, and they use to count "days"). How do you think people would sleep? The sun is always up, so there's no restricting people to all sleep at around the same time. Would you have "upmoon" and "downmoon" cultures, or per-village, or would it be workers in the cities, etc? It's roughly 1900-ish tech level.
>>97256957>How do you think people would sleepLightly, and at different times. Perhaps even with half of their brain awake, like some aquatic animals do.If it's 1900's tech level, they'd probably have a set schedule as to facilitate factory work. I would go with three sleeping phases to match three shifts of ~8 hours each.
>>97256957Are they human? I don't think anything that evolved on that planet would need sleep, at least not in the way we do. How would plants grow with constant sunlight, would they still need have cycles of producing sugars if they can just get all their energy from a constant source? How do the people dissipate heat on the sun side?
>>97256935In real world it was a fairly nebulous term (I don't think it actually was an official ship classification in the same way light cruiser or armored cruiser were) but primarily referred to a cruiser with battleship-scale guns.In this case it's just a terminology difference. The humans refers to ships bigger and more heavily armed than cruisers as battleships, While the Seirans consider their biggest ships to be more heavily armed and armored versions of their standard cruisers, and so call them battlecruisers or heavy cruisers. Seiran battleships/battlecruisers also do perform more like big cruisers, since they're fast for their size and there's more overlap in armament size between them and cruisers.

>>97257706why wouldn't it? the same fluff and worldbuilding that is used in video games is literally equally useful in tabletop gameswhy don't you go complain that breasts don't belong on /hc/ because they're already on /s/ or something, because that's literally the same thing you're doing here
I have wanted to play RPGs for years and posted on /tg/ for like a decade, but have never found someone to play with. Finally my kids are old enough to play with me, but the problem is, I don't know HOW to play. Like, what is a game supposed to even look like? All the rulebooks I've read go over in depth the character creation and mechanics, etc. but none really paint a picture of the structure and flow of the game and what it is supposed to look like. Where do I start??
>>97253357you can get most of the benefits of Basic Fantasy as outlined in >>97253440 in B/X by playing Old School Essentials. The advanced rulebook also adds rules for race and class separation
>>97249513>video game boardAh I see what your problem is now >>>/v/
>>97253440Lower ordinal being better is very common place in English1st place better than 2nd in competitions1st class superior to 2nd in mail and travel1st rate ships bigger and better armed than 2ndpH 1 more acidic than pH 2pH -1 is slightly more get that crap the fuck away from me than pH 0Apparent magnitude −26.832 brighter than −12.74Even before the Cold War was nominally over 3rd world was misconstrued to mean low standard of living and not just not aligned with Easter or Western bloc>Pros: ascending ACSo with lower better being common place, are you making that claim solely on the basis of brainlets and>hurr... subtracting negative is hardor is there some actual reason ascending AC is better?
>>97249229>I don't know HOW to play. Like, what is a game supposed to even look like? You start with a single scene, go through it like you where reading a book or playing a game, if a conflict comes up resolve it using the games rules that will usually involve rolling dice in some capacity. Maybe look into a rules light game where "rules as written" aren't such a big priority, consider one page games which will be easy to learn and teach your group one such game I like is "fudge in a nutshell" see: https://files.catbox.moe/p8ch99.pdf
>>97255650It's a matter of resolution mechanics unification. Old d&d was sort of all over the place in this regard and can be a little confusing for people approaching for the first time. And i say that as a guy that was initiated with a becmi starter set, it's not a deal breaker and takes a moment to be figured out but given the choice why would you pick something, even if slightly, more convoluted?
You have to play Monopoly.Which Monopoly do you play?
>>97249729It's genuinely hilarious that this is a legitimately far better designed game than monopoly, since there's alternate win conditions and lose conditions. Like collecting three indulgences becoming free of sin or being shot and killed by the rat mafia for being in debt to them
Why do they make so many different versions?
>>97257355More to sell. You can sell the University of Washington monopoly in the same campus bookstore that also sells Seattleopoly. People love this shit for gifts. It costs almost nothing for a different version since it's mostly just a few small changes to the board .
I don't. :-)
I got roped into playing a version that was supposed to be shorter and faster and made sure to follow the rules to the letter so no house rule bullshit that extends the game. It still took nearly 4 hours to finish and ~2 hours of that I didn't even get to do anything since I was out of the game by that point.

The DM reveals that all this time, the 'Chaotic Evil invading soldiers' you've been fighting and slaughtering were actually Lawful Good innocent untrained peasants. They were tricked/convinced into believing they were fighting for survival and defense of their impoverished homeland.THE PALADIN FALLS AND LOSES ALL POWERS!!!Do you feel like a hero yet?
>>97254437>Per AD&D rules, shouldn't the paladin have fallen when he killed he first peasant, regardless of whether or not he knew the peasant's alignment?Killing enemy combatants during wartime is not an evil act regardless of their alignment. Other circumstances might make still make it evil, but what OP is describing does not.
>>97252494Live by the sword, die by the sword. Anyone who takes up arms can be killed in honorable combat without besmirching the honor of the killer.

How do you justify a "pest race" like goblins or rat people in your setting? Why wouldn't the dominant species make a concentrated effort to eradicate them if they were a problem?
>>97215302What if it's more a spectrum and a product of the very short life spans of goblins. If a goblin settlement is stable for long enough they start to build a functional culture and some social experience that allows them to peacefully interact with human settlements, but if the settlement is consistently blown to pieces they go feral. For example, if only a few goblin children are left after a major culling, they grow and breed very quickly without any respect for the cost of offspring. They would have no agricultural skills, no hunting skills, no shelter, no resources to trade with, and no elders or experience to teach them otherwise, so they start raiding farms for chickens and loving in barns and caves. Raiding ends up being the successful means of providing, so you catch bad attention, get obliterated and restart the cycle. Alternatively, a stable village figures out growing crops, teaches children to trade or work in the nearby town, people come to begrudgingly respect the little fuckers, they get help maintaining their little village from the local humans, and even though they only live fifteen years there's continuity of culture and experience. Controlling goblins ends up being either a process of aggressive extermination or improving their lot enough that they realize farming is better than being exterminated (and providing them with condoms). You end up with goblin public health specialists that are overall more economical than equipping a goblin task force.
>>97231892Could be the same business as killing coyotes too, lotta people just don't feel comfortable killing something like a dog, lotta people don't have a gun and the right experience to safely deal with a coyote. Could be the same for goblins, some people would do it, but others would get the ick because it feels like killing kids, most people wouldn't feel safe confronting the two goblins in the trash can.
>>97213989>ANOTHER thread where OP isn't pretending to post about his fetishcome on man
>>97256680But goblin raiders have no reason not to raid other goblins, or in the presence of other goblinsThis really only vouches for the effectiveness of relocation as an ideal method of genocide. If you never fully "corner the rat" you can keep them all close together
>>97213989The goblins in my setting can breed faster than you can put them down. They also don't respect species barriers, any cum can get them pregnant and they're all female. Moreover a goblin measures her worth as a goblin by how many daughters she births, hoping to birth enough that she can start her own tribe. And why yes, they do kidnap human males as breeding studs, and feed them herbs that boost the production of nut butter and rape them until they knock up the whole tribe then set them free.It is strictly illegal, but many villages even trade young, strong, healthy boys to the goblins for a set period of time in exchange for a lack of harassment.>!Why yes, this is my poorly disguised fetish. How could you tell?!<
Ghoul Stars>Region of space inhabited by scary monsters >They're scarier and more monstrous than all the other scary monsters (just take our word for it)>No you can't see it, we're never going to show you, and it's never gonna be in the gamesThe harrowing>Imperium is invaded by monsters from another dimension that is scary and incomprehensible (but also it isn't the warp)>They're scary and incomprehensible (so basically Chaos but Chaosier)>No you can't see it, we're never going to show you, and it's never gonna be in the gamesWhat is the point of this?
>>97256523The competitive mindset and PUG culture feed in to this. It's one thing to spend time thrashing out your ideas with some friends over time, but when your gaming circle is "dudes at the shop/tournament" whose only concern is really their win/loss record, you're never going to get any traction.
