Surely Beast deserves at least an honorable mention here.
>>
>>97345349
It was actually the result of so much meddling that it looped around to have no meddling.
>>
>>97346302
>dude if that was real it would be all over the news such as the new york times
in modern times there are cultures around it while animals do it all the time. I don't see why it wouldn't be natural and was given up in favor of cooked food purely due to taste. hell, people used to chew food for their babies instead of buying mushy shit.

How long will it take me to prep this adventure before I can actually play? I don't want to commit to a month of prep

kinda struggling with finding a look for my character, I've never really given thought to describe their appearance and I suck as descriptions.
>>
I mean I barely know anything about werewolves but "they can rip us to pieces" and "the parts they rip don't grow back" I can get. Just what the fuck is a fae? What other kinds of supernatural shit is there?
>>

Think about the social standing, clothing they'd like to wear, their colors, the build and height.
You can start with very banal things, for instance, Scarlet:
- takes her nickname from the color of her hair, she is American with Irish ancestry and real name;
- has a history of liking and making heavy metal music, she often wears black;
- has lots of dots in Intimidate and has Staredown as its specialty, her eyes are a rare color;
- she is a Toreador from the Volgirre bloodline, they can fleshcraft, she was always going to look unearthly beautiful with a perfect skin despite her chainsmoking habit, and despite her metalhead origins she had her piercings and tattoos removed before the embrace;
- she has many dots her physical attributes and in Brawl, her body has little fat and she could pass as a kickboxer;
- she is kind of a nouveau riche when you think about it, going from playing in front of a small but dedicated crowd of freaks, to smoking in the face of rich gen Y paypigs

I based her looks on Monica Bellucci and Megan Fox because:
- I like them
- I think they have a mature appeal that matches "what I want from her"
- Fox in particular has a mean stare and scowl
- pronounced cheekbones are recognized as a trait dominant and/or tough people have in either sex, even if they weren't, a softer childish face couldn't fit my idea of her

There's all sorts of things out there.
Even the Loup aren't mere horrors that disdain the Blood for ancient slights, if you ever dream of the wolves, make sure you get you and yours away.

Ancient dead in Egypt, more conventional ghosts, devils, angels that have a disconcerting closeness to those aforementioned devils, things that defy labels and haunt the dark. Remember meeting one nightmare in a corn field that was like... A person without a face. Standing there menacingly.

Fey, or rather, Sidhe? I only knew one person who spoke about them. Teddy, actually. Short Gangrel, frenzies left him with more fur than skin. Apparently after consuming too much blood from inebriated folk down in New Orleans during Mardi Gras he met with a band of dancing frogs who let him into one of their safe havens.

I could inquire for more details? Soon as we have our stay in Washington we'll probably just head south for Oregon where he's in hiding.

I couldn't tell you if any of that was the truth, only that when he was kicked out, he had another frenzy episode and put on even more fur and fangs.

Oh, lots of things are real and out there and could eat you, not sexually. A big one is spirits, mostly living in an otherworld of sorts. Werewolves have this trick where they can go through it to jump out of a puddle of water in your haven and eat you. And they do that shit incessantly if they decide you're a problem, like good God. I nearly got my face clawed clean off by a werewolf who managed to come out of a coffee cup a ghoul forgot to put a cap on. Most spirits don't like you, but they're usually aren't super likely to cause trouble for you. Unless you're like my coterie, in which case your night will sometimes look like the attached picture. That's a were-raven, by the way, those exist. There's also full-on wizards who throw fireballs and shit, were-sharks and were-cats and were-crocodiles, fairies... You'll get a good list of somewhat-major things soon enough, people love to brag about how they've met a mummy and lived.

There is a lot of weird things out there, though. Things that either defy classification, or just are so strange that even though they're technically 'just' a fairy, it really feels like something else.

Not-men pretending to be human on highways, luring in kind strangers. Living mountains, moving only when nobody's watching, or when you irritate them by coming near nature's holiest places. Covens of witches, occultists, wild mages and practicioners of esoteric arts, who do all sorts of strange things with vitae, and see you as a threat and a source of power. Psychics, who see things even I can't see with all my power, mirthful with their knowledge. Kine possessed by something foul and rotten and new and different every time, shambling about as if their eyelids aren't peeling off or their eyes aren't maggot-ridden. Birds of prey so vast to them you aren't even worth the time to swoop down, 'Kine' that seem entirely normal, up until you realize they're making sure to always face you, because they're flat as paper...

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online:
https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/

They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. For posterity's sake, the old mega will still be kept active even if it's unlikely to need updating: https://mega.nz/folder/70QH0BBa#Eg-blxYQKkY_C02wErnFTQ

all of the points remain true, however, and 40K is garbage. TC's lore and designs are overbaked stylistic nonsense. They went to the trouble of creating the "trench pilgrims," a suicidal unit that launches into the enemy, yet the miniatures don't have shoes and are barefoot.

WTF, Finland absolutely had to pay massive (for it's size) reparations to soviets. In fact, Finland was only nation that fully paid their reparations after WW2. It slowed down recovery after the war, but boosted their industrial output so exporting heavy machinery like locomotives to Soviet union became quite profitable.

Are one off narrative games a normal thing amongst you regular gameplayers? I’ve played learning “games” and want to play for real games when the 500 Worlds come out. Matched play doesn’t motivate me, but Idon’t know if I can find the time to commit to a campaign.
>>
>>97347385
kinda depends on the people involved. for example:
>am the only Agents player in my area (shocker)
>sometimes I get paired up with the only Deathwatch player in my area
>we're both fans of narrative play and the Abnett books/warhammer crime books etcetc
>even in tournaments we'll fluff out our games as struggles over jurisdiction between our respective Inquisitors
>we might hold our punches slightly or keep a unit hidden instead of gamble it on an objective
>in the end someone wins and the TO doesn't really care what happens as long as no rules are broken

Depends who you're playing with. Generally games with your friends are whatever you want them to be. Pickup games people are generally looking for matched play

Mechgames used to be a PC game standard. Then it slowly fell out of relevance into the niche class. I attribute it to the overall increase in NPCs, who do not really have any inkling as to why they feel or "think" anything and can certainly not ever explain to you how they became such a person who did not like large walking vehicles (also known as gay).

In the case of mandatory activities, sometimes a check is how long it takes
>>
even if you play 5E, read either Holmes Basic or B/X. D&D suddenly makes more sense.

>well uh, i try again!
>fail forward!
>take 10/20/whatever.

NONE of these matter. searching takes a turn, you search a 10-foot area, that's it. that's the abstraction. you either find the thing or you don't. but CRUCIALLY it takes a TURN. the game has TURNS the same way combat has rounds.

if you make a dungeon that relies on 'passing a check' to continue, that's just absolutely stupid (looking at you, Hoard of the Dragon Queen).
>>
>>97345119
would it ruin your campaign for your players to have something nice?
>>
>>97334565
It's called railroading.
It's when the DM has decided what happens beforehand and pretends the player has agency apart from the tactical combat decisions, and also the DM isn't allowing his players to be creative enough to come up with other ways to get to the story beat.
In my old party, this type of shit would happen a lot. And I'd come up with a solution and my DM would shoot me down. Luckily my new group will actually make lists like follows:
>Is there a window we can climb into
>Can we wait for someone or some thing to come out/go in and ambush them
>Lets go hire a thief
>Lets go find a spell scroll to unlock
>Use stone shape on the wall
>Lets dig under the tower and break into it from underneath
>I set fire to the door
>The fighter chops down the door with an axe
>Heat metal to weaken the hinges so we can pull it out
>I knock on the door, pretending to deliver a message or package from a rival wizard. What package and message? Eeem, I'll put my immovable rod in and tell the wizard his rival says to stick it up his ass and then beg for mercy throughout the interaction.
>>
>>97347319
If that's in the order you want to try those things then sorry to tell you man but nobody's opening to your knock after you tried to fucking burn the door down and then take it down with an axe.

still amusing to me that a Chaos God of machinery/crafting got predicted almost a decade early by a random fanfic set in "60k"

After Andris had managed to stabilize and drag Lancel out of the clearing a muscular centigor emerged from the forest. She tread softly toward the fallen Skivare and looked down upon her for almost a minute. With a swift chop of her machete she severed Skivare's head, picked it up, and traveled the beast paths to one of the Bleeding rose minor herdstones. She spent the rest of the day cleaning the skull and left it at the base of the new shrine, returning every day make sure it was still there and grow her hatred. Slowly more of the Bleeding rose herd came as well over the following days.

Lancel takes several days to recover. His severe concussion slowed his recovery and addled his memory. When he is awake he hollers at anyone nearby that the woods are infested with black beasts out to kill mankind. The few men left of his retinue eye each other as though he's lost his mind, while the elves do their best to hide their reactions entirely. It takes a full week, but eventually he has recovered enough for the elves and men to put together a caravan to return them to the north.

Skogsra took notice of the centigor who performed the respect given to Skivare and the offering of her flesh. Here was the first time one of the brays have done something new, something the brays chose to do themselves to honor their fallen leader. Skogsra rewards their new culture with a new creation: the black fountains, the first of which is built using the skull of Skivare herself. As for the centigor, she is afforded the gift to choose her own name. The new Beastlord, Warhoof Kastrerande, now leads the Bleeding Rose Brayherd.
