For Centaurs, you should be able to use them as mounts when not in combat if they're lightly armed & armored. I think you could ride into battle with them and fight on their back without overburdening them, depending on your loadout. Squeezing into dungeons and caves might be a bit of a bitch, and your centaur companion may find themselves too cumbersome to accompany you in certain locations. If people in wheelchairs can make do, I'm sure a transmog potion or a shrinking potion might solve the problem.

They're more at home here for sure, like having a horse. Some taverns may give you a hard "no" for your centaur companion, but I'm sure regions that are steeped in centaur culture or adjacent ones have accommodations for their unique anatomy. If nothing else, they could help carry your camp supplies and other provisions.

If you're not riding them, I think they can be pretty well armed and armored- think tower shield and a mace/flail. They also make good spearmen, so I think they'd be comfortable wielding a halbard and similar pike-style weapons. This would be with them wearing plate mail cuirass for the human portion and chainmail curtain over their horse hind quarters, or perhaps some specially fitted Gambeson. Other plate sections could be fitted to their horse body as needed. Archery and crossbows seem like they'd work for ranged options. I've not considered them using magic, but having a fairly mobile spellcaster seems cool as well.

Its easy to look at this character design and see advantages: wall climbing, presumably increased carrying weight on those legs, perception bonus from multiple legs, etc.

What would the downsides to a spider-taur be, ignoring for the moment any social ones? What would such a spider person actually be worse at than a human? The two that come to mind for me are "armor becomes a problem, making them squishy in a fight" and "have trouble fitting into small spaces". The former is significant, the latter mostly isn't. Spiders are actually really good at squeezing through cracks and stuff, so I imagine that a spider-taur will be able to get through a human sized doorway or hall just fine, even if they will look weird doing it.

It ain't that deep. The many flavors of Spess Muhreens are just cool themes to make them stand apart and sell codicies. We have and entire chapter of mongolians, a whole chapter of vampires and even had a whole chapter of Africans. We have Knights Templar in both Crusades and Davinci Code flavors. We even have an Admech chapter. Space Wolves were the vikings, it stands to reason they should probably stay distinct in their themes and general look instead of just being Ultramarines that swapped laurels for pelts. But hey, I'll probably just continue to ignore it and the dindu heads can remain on the sprues

But I think they’d hit the same core problems that prevented their ever being a geonisian Jedi or Sith:
1) no Geonosian hive would ever willingly give up its larvae, not unless it benefited the hive in some way. Jedi weren’t keen on tying to stage some commando raid into a hive to get a force-sensitive grub. And I wonder how many times a slimy “totally not umbrella” corp is willing to throw away on failed raids to get Geonosian Larvae before they deem it a waste of funds.
2) questionable loyalty: Geonosians have a hive mind. Well, each Geonosian colony has its own self contained hive mind. So even if one were to genetically alter a larvae so it never matures into adulthood, there’s always going to be a question of whether or not the grub is following your command, or it’s original hive’s

I'll be honest, trawling through snow in all that was a bit of a bitch. Absolute ankle-twist central. Worth it though. You two were pretty sharp, too! Especially with your new eyepatch and Mèo-Mèo with her new hat. Don't tell her, but it's just a hat. Isn't even Garou fur, even if SOMEBODY who likes guyliner too much kept suggesting that.

Oh, and a bit of advice for the eyepatch. I'm pretty confident that the best way to acclimatize to seeing with all the ways it can see, would be to keep several ways active at once. It's mentally straining, but you should get used to it eventually. Should eventually be able to on the fly go from thermal sight, to auras, to ghosts, to visions, to movement, to danger, to whatever else it'll be willing to do for you.
Just don't get too cocky with it. There's some creepy shit out there on the plains, especially on the highways at night. Don't openly stare at strangers through the more esoteric view-modes - the creeps drop the human act if they can tell that you can tell what they are.

Oh, she's actually mostly right this time. There's definitely something up there in the sky, spinning little webs for me to see, all while dancing me along a bigger web, and all that other stuff she said, especially about Lavender's forest fire fuck-up. But she's being pessimistic. Just a bit. Others in my coterie don't quite yet realize what's up, mostly don't want to accept it, but I've accepted it, and I'm making the situation work for me. Helps to have friends on the other side, I think!

Even if they have a very specific definition of friendship.

Necessity. Or rather, you don't need to want to be an adventurer to end up on an adventure.
That's particularly the case for those sorts of comfy/cozy games, where you basically can have an entire campaign revolver around the hometown of the PCs and their efforts to defend it from encroaching threats.

There only needs to be a desire strong enough to drive someone to leave.
A tragic event or disruption to happy life is easy to drive someone but there are non tragic reasons someone would leave.
