Owing to the natural difficulty of actually getting an asteroid, and the chance it doesn't contain any valuable metals in it, would it still make sense to break them down to use as shielding for permanent space habitats?
>>97345195Absolutely. Asteroid composition is anything but monolithic, as it were, but loosely falls into 3 categories, C, M, and S type. Those are easy to remember since they are short for carbon, metal, and silicate, or stony. C-type, carbon rich asteroids, are the most common, making up 75% of asteroids, while S-type, silicate or stony asteroids, comes in a distant second at 17% , M-type Metallic asteroids are much less numerous. Now when it comes to mining that hardly tells the whole story, M-types are mostly nickel and iron, neither of which we’d particularly want to bring home to Earth, but which would be valuable for building stuff in space. For that matter there are also several sub-types of asteroids and two different classifications systems, and the asteroid belt is anything but the only place you can find asteroids nor the nearest place to find them. It also is not unusual for two asteroids of different types to blunder into each other and merge or to be somewhere in between these types.C-types, the most common asteroid and also the ones that gets ignored a lot in asteroid mining conversations focused on impressing folks with the idea of mountains of gold, are quite valuable themselves. They contain lots of water, which is never a bad thing to find in outer space. But they also contain plenty of life-useful elements and particularly noteworthy is phosphorus. Something that is quite hard to find on Earth in concentration and a major bottleneck on agriculture, so if asteroid mining ever gets heavily developed and cheap, that is the sort of thing we might bring home since it is valuable. Not as valuable as gold or platinum of course, nowhere near, and these big space boulders have a lot of those.
>>97345195it would probably be easier to just mine out the inside and build your habitat in there

>>97345816Sure, but it's worth noting in the same context that men instinctively react to seeing two men kissing with the same revulsive affect that they react to seeing maggots crawling in meat, and that most human civilizations habitually beat male homosexuals to death when caught. So it's entirely possible that what makes the fertility adaptation valuable is that the accidental defective men it produces are simply disposed of by the rest of the population and pose no practical issue.I'm not saying this is definitively the case, mind you. Just that it's very easy to tell yourself stories about the ancestral environment that are in line with what you already liked, and you too should be very careful about that incredible complexity.

>>97345793>only one actually embodies the concept of chaos>still just embodies it in the most stale, predictable fashion imaginableseems pretty much not chaotic if you ask me
>>97345793Religiously, in traditional cultures/religion, "chaos" meant "the forces outside civilization." City = order. Wilderness = chaos. So anything animalistic like rage, rampant sex, gluttony--all traditionally "chaos" in things like Greek and Mesopotamian and Laventine religion (also the ocean is chaos for some reason). Just look at Gilgamesh or the Bible for stories where the good gods slay the chaos gods: yaweh versus leviathan, gilgamesh versus hambaba. Civilization good. Destablizing civilization? Chaos. Hence Enkidu (who gets away from chaos by drinking beer, eating bread and sleeping with a prostitute). Really, tzeentch embodies chaos least of all, out of them.
Of course the real answer is just Moorcock and Anderson. That's where Warhammer and D&D both get their law/chaos dichotomy from.

Got a game on Tuesday for some 2e40k action, 1500 points and I'm trialing one of the Dark Eldar 2e fandex lists I've found, this first one is built off and adapts 5e army list, the other two are built off adapting the 3e army list. We'll see how things go with these test games. I'm going to need to come up with 2 scratch built raiders and a ravager in time for it, though, I've got an idea on how to accomplish that, too. So fingers crossed I can get that done! Otherwise I'll just rewrite the test list to something else. Here's a shot of my Kabal so far, finished the assembly this afternoon, 55 dark eldar warriors, 2 Archons/Dracons, a raider and a kitbashed Talos I built during the 5e codex release and range refresh, the pain engines weren't coming till 2nd release wave so I needed to come up with a solution for the lack of one until then. Tomorrow arvo I'll base and prime them all, except the Talos, he'll just get some painting done on him... 17 years after I built him.
>>97341788Post up the army list itself? I'm curious to see what it's like with stats and such, and what you're taking.Any idea what you're facing?
>>97345752>Post up the army list itself? I'm curious to see what it's like with stats and such, and what you're taking.Certainly! >>97345752My rationale is to bundle the Blaster/Splitercannon squads in a pair of raiders and push them up the table to contest and harrass the shit out of things, while the dark lance squad hangs back to snipe heavier shit. Archon and incubi are in the last raider and the Talos will act as a counter attack force where ever I get bogged down by the enemy. Ravager provides highly mobile anti armour/anti terminator/meganob platform. And hopefully, this gets me a win, but the ultimate is to see how fun this particular fandex is.

>>97345490Wrote a battlereport of my battle so far if you care to read, along with lore for my warbandThe Penitents of the Free states are made up of sinners captured within the free states of Prussia. Wondering if these are actual sinners or poor fools pulled off the street is heretical. Those that still see the light of God the Almighty are strongly encouraged to seek their penitence in the no man's land on long suicidal campaigns. They will fight until death, only then will their souls be judged anew, they seek baptism through bloodshed.Battle Report 1: The Penitents marched to collect tithes from a wandering band of Infected Trench Pilgrims, and seek control of the no man's land. God had no mercy on the wretched penitents during this battle, we believe they may have lied about their true faith. Some Yeoman threw a satchel charge at their own lieutenant by accident, or heretical whispering. This decisive blow forced a complete retreat, one wounded shocktrooper perished in the cowardly withdrawal and needed replacement. The trench cleric reports “God was not with us, and we may only pray for his return”. Despite our Lieutenant suffering from the blast, they suffered no major scarring, and promptly executed the rest of our wounded. There will be more seeking penance on the path, but this battle led to a shaken morale, some wonder if there is even hope for redemption here.
>>97345931Battle Report 2: The Penitents were sent to reclaim Priceless Relics, not knowing those of the Iron Sultanite sought to capture them in the name of their religion. The battle between forces went remarkably well, God may have returned to us after all. Despite ending in a draw, the sound of distant whistles and chimes causing both sides to disengage, we left their troops with dark memories of the day they attempted to cross the true faith. We suffered minor wounds, and while we did not capture as many relics as our lord would have liked, we however learned from our mistakes and will be stronger another day. We explored the trenches and managed to claim a map that will aid further exploration attempts. Our Lieutenant and Cleric sharpened their blades and minds for the next battle.
