Irresponsible retard edition>What is Shadow of the Demon Lord?:Shadow of the Demon Lord is a horror-fantasy tabletop adventure game that presents a world standing on the brink of annihilation. In this game, you and your friends play characters charged with fighting back against the spreading evil, whether that involves tracking down potent relics, exploring ancient faerie ruins, journeying into Hell to bargain with the Devil, or battling demons and the cultists who summon them. The system is setting agnostic and has a wide variety of possible details for your own world.>What is PunkApocalyptic: the RPG?:Another game using the Demon Lord Engine. >>96641617It is fun, but it will take a lot of time, which I dont have.
>>96641645It was an unrelated charity though
Hey anon, what would be a good master path for an orc->Priest of the old gods-> Gothi? Depending on how things go my campaign might become orc heavy. Normally I'd say Graven but unfortunately this requires orcs to not be retarded
So the Demon Lord Engine feels like SDL without exactly the thing that drew people to it, scatological memes aside. Discourse I've seen for Weird Wizard already seem to be disappointed at how "generic" the game feels like, but if I'm understanding it correctly it's basically a way to have a standard set of rules for potentially different settings like Stars Without Number?
Anyone tried the new adept yet? Some of the talents look kinda busted.

Why are there many types of elves, but dwarves are always just dwarves?
>>96647595elves being varied is baked into their DNA from tolkein splitting up the high elves and the wood elves, to even norse mythology having the light elves and dark elves dwarves however, are interesting in their niche of being overall consistent throughout fiction with variations being rare. i mean its kind of neat that they're almost always just short angry dudes who like to dig. being consistent fits much more in their conservative nature trying to vary them always feels a little forced and doesn't really push the identity anywhere.even the picture is less of different dwarf cultures, more different dwarf Age of Sigmar tries to push the dwarf identity but instead of 3 developed dwarf cultures among order, they just feel a little under developed. except chaos dwarfs, people seem to like them
>>96647638>more different dwarfdifferent dwarf roles
Elves rapidly adapt to their environments, a requirement for the species considering the lengthy intervals between subsequent generations thanks to their extremely long life spans and low birth rates. If an elf lives long enough on an island, they will become an Island Elf. Place them in a desert, and they will eventually become a Desert Elf. Leave one in a tavern too long, and you might come back to a Tavern Elf.
>>96647595There's different dwarf subspecies too. For some reason dwarves just don't get shit on as much for it, probably because outside of a few dwarf autists no one really gives a fuck.
>>96647595There are other kinds of dorfs. But "elf" has long been used as a term for all sorts of magical folk.

We need FEATS and a useable magic item system to customize our existing characters. Campaigns last years, we don't need new subclass options we can't use every 6 months.we really just need a 5.75e>canabalize a bunch of class/subclass features and turn them into feats>everyone gets mroe featslike, "wild shape" feat that gives you 2 uses of druids wild shape/long rest if you're a druid, they're added to your wild shapes uses you have now.

I have some experience playing and running Fabula Ultima.I think it is an okay game, but I find characters too simple (short of dozens of sessions into the game and its slow progression), and I am not a fan of how much the system relies on identifying and hammering at arbitrary damage type weaknesses.

Dominion Rules is a free D12 system. It is best suited for medieval/early modern games. I really like it's combat system where NPCs and players call their actions in reverse initiative order, and then execute them in the initiative order so that fast characters get to react to what slower are going to do. It also has decent magic and priesthood systems. It has some peculiar design choices like making having a grip on weapon against disarming and holding breath into separate skills (I suppose author's games feature a lot of diving and poison gas traps) but they can be ignored. https://dominionrules.org/
Copyright neutral Marvel Super Heroes. There is also Advanced FASERIP which adds and tweaks stuff, both are free.https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/177913/faseripThe same author has also made free retroclone of old superhero system Golden Heroes, but only distributes it in his personal homepage.https://gurbintrollgames.wordpress.com/codename-spandex/

"I like games with a lot of depth. >>96647679>- What game do you think is overrated, Dune Imperium (either version). Every time I get dragged into playing it there's a decisive turn where someone is about to win, there's a upset where someone stops them, and the other three players get upset that the game doesn't get to end.If everyone recognizes that they don't want to play the game why were we playing it in the first place? >and what similar game would you recommend instead?Lost Ruins of Arnak. It's not much better, but it is better and it is similar.
>>96647695...is probably the most boring game in existence.>a-at least the gameplay is good"No!" The gameplay is dreadful; the game was terrible. As I played, I noticed that every time a minor power was played, the player did it for the symbols instead of an interesting effect.I began marking on the back of an envelope every time a card was played for symbols only. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Reuss' mind is so governed by bland effects and thinly veiled set collection that he has no other style of gameplay. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Spirit Island by the same Kenneth Johnson. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these manchildren are playing Spirit Island at 31 or 32, then when they get older they will go on to play Phase 10." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "Spirit Island" you are, in fact, trained to play Phase 10.
>>96647679>Mechanism you hate but later came to appreciateI wouldn't say appreciate so much as "built up a tolerance to". Worker placement. Dedicating a player's limited action economy for future resource gains in order to power future shit they actually want to do? Still utter dog shit game design. Just have players gain X number of resource of their choice per turn and axe that mini-game bullshit. I do not automatically pass on games that feature such a mechanic anymore though.>Game you think is overrated Magic. Ashes is better. Summoner Wars is better. Mage Wars Arena is better. Magic is pretty much shit even in the narrow scope of mage vs mage battler games.>What board game opinion do you completely disagree withComponents don't matter. That's a terrible opinion. Components are a foundational aspect of a game. Good components won't make a bad game become good, but bad components can absolutely make a good game become bad. I'm NOT talking about miniatures and other stuff like them, but core components like card stock being cheap in a game with a lot of shuffling.

What's your personal theory on the origins of the Ethereals? A pet project from the Eldar? An implement of the Necrons to bring about a suitable host species? Or did the Goddess T'au'va herself create them so that the Tau would grow into a mighty empire and she would be born in the future?
>>96647592It's important to remember that GW is shit and his narratives are bad.I never got the impression that it was as great a wank at all. Also actual warp tech and speedy transport. The joke of making Grots out of blue cows went out of control.Necrons would probably be the same actually. Kind of gay that everyone is so eager for there to be some big reveal of grander purpose and secret goings on, I'm pretty happy with them just being a bunch of aliens and they just work like this.Treating warhammer like a big mystery just waiting to be solved is half the cause of all the worst shit that goes on there.
